Introduction to Algorithms book Cover[edit]

Mind you if I ask you to upload this image as the Introduction to Algorithms cover? I am not well informed about the Fair-Use policies, but as far as I can tell this one should be OK too: [1]. Thanks. 189.214.203.173 (talk) 15:10, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Uploaded this one on top of the existing one. Thanks for the link. --Sreejith K (talk) 17:44, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I received a message from you saying there was no evidence of permission on the photo. It was clearly there. I stated it was photo by poster and had given it a creative commons share alike license. I think this may have been a mistake as it was being prepared to be moved. If you look at the history of the photo it is definitely there. I am going to remove the prods. Americasroof (talk) 20:03, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I tagged it as missing permission because it was not evident what "photo by poster" meant. Is poster your name? --Sreejith K (talk) 18:21, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
YesAmericasroof (talk) 20:03, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I get it now. Fixed the link and moved the file to commons. Thank you for your patience. --Sreejith K (talk) 05:52, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I should have put it on commons to begin with. You're doing a thankless job in the conversion. Thanks! Americasroof (talk) 10:42, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free images are not permitted in User namespaces. Currently this image is only used in your sandbox, which is not allowed in Wikipedia. This image will have to be deleted. Once you create the article, you can re-upload the image to Wikipedia and use it. --Sreejith K (talk) 10:32, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I see, thanks for explaining. Really appreciate the feedback. Would it be possible for you to review this document and let me know if I am doing something wrong there too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Willonthemove/sandbox

William Emmanual (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 10:38, 8 February 2012 (UTC).[reply]

I am not quite clear whether the article meets Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). Almost all links in the article points to the company's website or blogs. Wikipedia might expect to see a good media coverage or a significant achievement for the Organization. But that's just my view. You can focus on adding links to news that appeared in popular media. --Sreejith K (talk) 11:40, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I am sorry. I have tons of Newspaper coverage for the Organization. I will start adding those links soon. Thanks for pointing it out.

--Willonthemove (talk) 11:49, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Now that the logo is linked to an article can we keep this image without deleting it?

--122.161.191.128 (talk) 15:50, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the deletion template now. The image is good to be kept. Thanks for the prompt response. --Sreejith K (talk) 16:33, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That is just perfect! Thanks a lot for your continued guidance through this effort - it was a great experience turning my research about the A2Z Group of Business into a Wiki Article.

--122.161.191.128 (talk) 17:19, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Good to know. Happy editing --Sreejith K (talk) 18:18, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Need help on the A2Z Group Article[edit]

Hi there, I need some help on the A2Z Group article I was writing. If you remember, you had help me with getting the issue with the logo resolved. Is there any way you can review the article once and point me to the areas where correction/change is needed. Since an editor suspects my relation with the organization - I have offered to make all future contributions in the talk pages ONLY and have any one of Wikipedia's trusted editors verify the content and then update the article themselves.

Please do let me know if there is any other alternative to resolving this. Thanks again. Willonthemove (talk) 06:57, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Attention please[edit]

  • You're mentioned here. I'm sure there should be a logical explanation for this. The filing of the request was procedural, after I had blocked one particular ip. Do contact me in case you need any clarification. Kind regards. Wifione Message 07:26, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Since the IP is from Bangalore and since the IP was interested in Wikimeetup Bangalore 38, it must be someone I know. But its not me. Now that this request has been declined, I am not commenting there either. Thanks for the note. --Sreejith K (talk) 07:52, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey[edit]

Hey. Are you the same administrator from Wikimedia Commons? I saw you reviewed and passed some of the images I uploaded to commons. I got some questions on images and their licensing. Are you the right person? Thanks. - VivvtTalk 11:20, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am an administrator at Commons. How can I help you? --Sreejith K (talk) 11:39, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Glad to know that you are the same person. I have uploaded a file from this blog. I contacted the blog owner for the usage permission by dropping an email. He replied saying the pictures for that were supplied by the pr so they are free to be used. Now, can this mail suffice for the copyright? Can this image be uploaded to commons with this blog? Thanks. - VivvtTalk 12:09, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have tagged the file appropriately and a message was also posted on your talk page. You will have to ask the copyright holder to email permissions-en@wikimedia.org stating the license under which he/she would like the image to be published in Wikipedia. Sample emails can be found at Commons:Email templates --Sreejith K (talk) 12:34, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So if I understand correctly, blog owner's mail is not sufficient enough for an image to go with CC-3.0 and I need to contact PR for that event. Correct me if I am wrong. Thanks. - VivvtTalk 12:50, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OTRS email should come from the copyright holder. Given the fact that the blog owner was provided the photos by the PR, I would guess the PR is the copyright holder or at least know who is the copyright holder. --Sreejith K (talk) 13:10, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In that case, I would change the image licensing to non-free image for the time being and will try to contact PR thru blog owner and will see if I get a reply from them. Its better to have that image as non-free than deleted because of the licensing. In case, I do get a reply from PR, we can change to image licensing accordingly to suit its copyright. Let me know if you have other opinion. Thanks. - VivvtTalk 13:35, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Girish Kulkarni is still alive and a free image is possible. So you wont be able to keep the image under a non-free license here. The only option is to get an OTRS as soon as possible. --Sreejith K (talk) 14:08, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have contacted blog owner to provide PR contact information. But then I am not sure how much time it would take. By that time, this image would be deleted. Do we have any alternative to save this image, in case I do not get any response from blog owner/PR ? Thanks. - VivvtTalk 14:13, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately no. This image cannot stay in Wikipedia without OTRS permission. But good news is that you have 7 days to get that. If it gets deleted, once we get OTRS, this image will get undeleted. --Sreejith K (talk) 15:16, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That should be fine. I will try to find a free image and will upload it as a newer version of the same file, in case I dont get any reply from owner. Thanks. - VivvtTalk 18:04, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I got no reply for the mail I had sent to the blog owner asking PR's contact number but then mean time, I got a free image of Girish Kulkarni here. Now can I upload this image as a newer version of the file with providing all the info or shall I upload this to wikicommons and let the other image get deleted by its own? Thanks. - VivvtTalk 01:12, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Its actually forbidden to overwrite a completely different version of a file. If you do, it will be split up. See {{split media}}. Since pictures from the parties and events in bollywoodhungama are in a free license, please upload the image to commons. --Sreejith K (talk) 05:06, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Finally!! Thank you very much for you help and guidance. Thanks. - VivvtTalk 11:13, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Check out File:Girish Kulkarni at Masala Premier.jpg Thanks. - VivvtTalk 12:16, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey...came across this site. Can we upload pics from these site to commons as some of them are vintage and could be in public domain? Thanks. - VivvtTalk 03:06, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This site does not seem to own copyright of any of the images hosted there. But if any of the image there was published 60 years before today, we can upload it to commons with a license of PD-India. --Sreejith K (talk) 04:20, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. Thanks. - VivvtTalk 06:09, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Can we crop this image and use it as a free image for Mani Kaul than the one used in the article as of now? Thanks. - VivvtTalk 23:01, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately not. The picture you are talking about is one in the background and someone else holds the copyright of the image. But you can upload it with a non-free rationale in English Wikipedia. We already have one here and only one non-free image is permitted, so you decide which one you need here. --Sreejith K (talk) 04:23, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh. Lets not have more non-free images. Thanks. - VivvtTalk 06:09, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Permission/Publisher[edit]

Hey, you sent me the e-mail regarding the permission for the use of the photos of the ticket 2012022410006566 . I sent you a permission from the author but you said that I have to get the permission from the publisher. However the book is self-published so the author is also the publisher. Shouldn't the images be safe from deletion ??

Please reply. Thanks. J10452M (talk) 04:57, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Does the fact that the book is self published stated anywhere on the book? If yes, a scan copy of that page would be enough for OTRS. --Sreejith K (talk) 05:49, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How can I send the scans to you ?? J10452M (talk) 16:08, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Reply back to the OTRS email. Or if you are the copyright holder and you are willing to release it in free license, you can upload it in commons too. --Sreejith K (talk) 19:25, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Got your email, but pardon me for my ignorance. Which language is the book in? --Sreejith K (talk) 12:09, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The book is in Arabic. If you want, I can send you the translation of the words in the scanned photos. J10452M (talk) 04:40, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have asked for help here Commons:Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard#Arabic_volunteer_needed --Sreejith K (talk) 06:13, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You mentioned on the commons noticeboard that I am the author of the book. I am not the author. I uploaded the photos from a book whose author is also the publisher. J10452M (talk) 12:01, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free files missing a rationale[edit]

Hi. According to Wikipedia:Database reports/Non-free files missing a rationale you have a number of files missing a rationale template. Perhaps you could have a look? It should be easy to find the files if you sort by uploader. --MGA73 (talk) 10:48, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The ones by me has been taken care. --Sreejith K (talk) 12:55, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I had to decline the speedy deletion of File:Padmarajan during his early career.JPG because the inward links have not been updated. See this page. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 14:09, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Marked it as {{db-f8}} --Sreejith K (talk) 14:30, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You tagged this as {{subst:npd}}, but it looks like a complex matter, so I have moved it to Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files/2012 June 11#File:Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II X.jpg. --Stefan2 (talk) 21:55, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Makes sense. Thanks for the note. --Sreejith K (talk) 05:15, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Can you help me create an article on Ramesh Pisharody[edit]

Hello there! Remember me? You had contributed to creating 2 articles for malayalam movies.

Apart from movies he has also done a lot of comedy roles in TV serials and is a popular TV presenter.

I would like your help in creating an article for the hero in these movies Ramesh Pisharody. I know him personally, and his family. So I have a lot of information I can share. Do let me know. by William Emmanual | Send me a Message 06:33, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am a great fan of Ramesh Pisharody. I love his shows. But I know nothing about him to start an article. Why don't you start an article and then I can help format the article. --Sreejith K (talk) 07:13, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Aaliyah-dontknowwhattotellya.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Aaliyah-dontknowwhattotellya.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. File:Janakan-poster.jpg listed for deletion[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Janakan-poster.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for deletion. Ah, you put this one up? :) Don't you think 1000x800 is a bit too high res for fair use? -- Raziman T V (talk) 10:35, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You should have used {{Fair use reduce}} instead. --Sreejith K (talk) 13:50, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Forgot about its existence altogether, sorry -- Raziman T V (talk) 13:56, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Knotwork SVG[edit]

Sorry to revert, but the SVG is really not ready for prime time unless the flaw slightly to the left of upper center is fixed (as I told the original uploader at the time). AnonMoos (talk) 04:24, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

PNG question[edit]

Noticed a bunch of image files with .jpg endings are being replaced with files having .png endings. Last time I delved into this, I was told that .png was for diagrams, etc., as a superior format to .gif, but that photographs are .jpg. What's up with this? Just curious. Montanabw(talk) 19:53, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

They were png files uploaded to commons with a jpg extension. I just corrected the file names. --Sreejith K (talk) 19:56, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Love, Actually - 'Links' Section - SVG/JPG[edit]

You keep swapping in a SVG where all the words are in the French language. This, with all due respect, is not appropriate for the ENGLISH version of the article.
