About your Admin Coaching request[edit]

User talk

Your submission at Admin Coaching has been removed from the request list, as requests where the submitter has not visited the page for at least 6 months (or been inactive for at least 4 months) are removed.

You are welcome to re-submit a request should you wish to, but please note that you are expected to regularly check the page (and to update the "last visited" field of your request) to show your continued interest in the project. If you do re-submit, please carefully re-read the instructions for submission as they may have changed since you last visited!

As noted on the project page, there is an on-going backlog with the project, as so few admins are currently coaching. This means that you may have a long wait for a response (if you receive one at all).

If you no longer require admin coaching, I hope that you continue to enjoy editing Wikipedia!

Top 4 requests[edit]

Hi Vearthy, I have not added any tasks for Top 4 yet. I do not plan to do that either. I just want to work on things that others suggest as Top 4. --Sreejith K (talk) 15:21, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Image Resize[edit]

Hello there. I noticed that you seem to be using a resizing tool to assist at Category:Non-free Wikipedia file size reduction request. Do you know what the underlying software the program is using is? I ask because I have been doing them manually, using the free program Paint.NET, and seem to be getting better results in, to be completely honest, less random sizes. One recent file you reduced came to a final size of 344×351. I redid that file File:Pygmies in Tintin in the Congo.JPG, at the same size to compare the two. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on the comparison. If you believe that the image resize tool is comparative in quality to the original, I would consider switching over, as it would save me plenty of time, however I am not quite sure that is the case. Please leave me a talkback template message if you respond. Thanks, Sven Manguard Wha? 00:08, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Seven. I am using a custom tool for Wikipedia called RSoC's Image Resize Tool. As you can see, this is not a graphical tool like Paint.NET and so it gives inferior results as compared to tools like Paint.NET, Windows Picture Editor, etc. I using this tool because of the ease of using it. I started using this tool some time back when the backlog in Category:Non-free Wikipedia file size reduction request was above 2000 and this tool was quite helpful at that time. If you are watching this category and clearing the backlog, I would be more than glad to stop using this tool and leave the task for you. Thanks for bringing this to my notice. --Sreejith K (talk) 02:37, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I will continue to clear that backlog, but it's still nice to know about the tool, in case the backlog get's too big. It's incredibly easy to use Paint.NET, it just takes about a minute to do each one, longer considering that I do several things at once. I happen to love automated tools, but in this case, I think I'll just do it manually. Please feel free to keep using the tool, and cleaning the backlog yourself. I don't want to create the impression that I'm chasing you away, I'm not. Thanks for telling me about the tool, and thanks for helping clear that backlog. Sven Manguard Wha? 03:00, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have used several graphic editors and is quite comfortable resizing images, but when coming to resizing a lot of images from Wikipedia, I am quite lazy to download the file, reside it and then re-upload it. :). RSoc's tool makes this task incredibly easy and I have tweaked the tool to run in an almost (90%) automated way. It takes off the clarity a bit, but for non-free images, the clarity does not often matter that much since the expectation from the image is just to get a visual impression on what the article is about. You are not chasing me away, I will continue to do other stuff which I have been doing, but I feel that there isn't enough backlog in the category now which requires two persons working on it simultaneously. Wish you happy resizing :) --Sreejith K (talk) 05:18, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Don't two identical waves put one just under another look weird to you? To me it does. I don't want to be the one who grumbles all the time but could you please do the work more carefully so the photo doesn't look false? Thanks. Vearthy (talk) 19:44, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I did not notice that when I did that in a hurry :). Gave it another shot now. You will have to purge the cache to see the latest version. --Sreejith K (talk) 03:38, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

TOP 4[edit]

I can still see the remains of the watermarks on the photos, especially last 2 ones. Even if the task is easy, and that one was, it should be done PRECISELY. You did all of them in hurry. Don't do that again, it makes my blood boil to tell everybody about that. Thanks, and please redo those. Vearthy (talk) 15:32, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Woe, Is Me[edit]

Hey, bud; give a watch when naming files. The band Woe, Is Me have a comma in their name after all. =) -- GunMetal Angel 17:35, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you see the file history, you can see that the image was not uploaded by me. I just resized it to meet WP:NFCC. If you believe the filename should have a comma, please use the {{rename}} template to fix it. --Sreejith K (talk) 17:50, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

EPCOR logo -- need help changing[edit]

Hi there,

EPCOR has changed its logo. As the person who updated the file on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Epcorlogo1.svg, I'd like you to change it to this version here, because I have no idea how to. http://www.epcor.ca/epcorlogo.jpg Thanks.

Nikitafullmoon (talk) 17:24, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As you can see, the existing logo in Wikipedia is an SVG file. The image you have given is JPG and that cannot be uploaded in the same page. You will have to change the new logo to SVG, or upload the JPG file seperately and replace it in the article EPCOR Utilities Incorporated. Hope this clarifies your question. --Sreejith K (talk) 05:19, 25 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Sreejith, Can you help me with verifying the OTRS ticket [3]. I am an admin in Ta. wiki and many images there were obtained from kollywoodtoday.com through a cc.3.0 licence. ied munitions[edit]

that image was taken by a us marine during operation asbury park in afghanistan. as such, it's not subject to copyright, and is fair to be included in the wikipedia. but if you want to delete it, go ahead. i did tag the image appropriately because i am aware of the image's provenance. it bothers me that you did not read my talk page which explicitly states that i do not want people leaving me notices that they will be deleting images. i don't want to be involved in the debates about copyrighted images and whether they should or should not be deleted. i find it tiresome to have to defend images which were properly tagged to begin with. i uploaded them a long time ago, before you joined, even, tagged them appropriately, and considered that good enough. then newer editors came along and decided to make up new rules and now they have automated tools to leave me automated messages to annoy me. that's pretty irksome. the least you could do is read my talk page if you're going to leave me a message. it's a simple request. go ahead and delete the image if you want to, i'm not going to argue. ... aa:talk 17:42, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of page Santhosh Pandit[edit]

Dear Wiki Writer, I would like to express my resentment on the deletion of the page Santhosh Pandit.Of course I agree the fact that the personality is notorious for his activities.I visit Wiki for reading the authentic facts and Wiki by my knowledge is for reading the facts. If this is true ,then it doesn't matter the person is notorious or ill publicized.Another argument is 'not notable'.What does this mean? The personality is (in)famous through out youths and in youtube clicks. Also he has appeared in TV Channel interviews. As I am a resident from Germany nationality by India,I often use Wikipedia as a source of recent and authentic happenings and facts about India.Irrespective of the ill publicity and notoriety,I would appreciate Wiki's boldness to accept the truth and facts.I would ask another argument that what happens if this personality when accepted by public in a positive line in coming future?(I hope this is going to happen soon),Also you have pages on Terrorists and criminals.I agree that the personality may not be claimed as an actor. But please accept that he is (in)famous. I request your team to reconsider this matter ,if Wikipedia by definition is meant for reading facts!! Thanks Mr.S Ravensburg,Germany. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.226.24.9 (talk) 09:25, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia has certain rules set out for creating articles. One of them namely Biographies of living persons states that the person about whom we are writing an article should be notable enough. We can prove his notability by giving at least two links of articles that came about him in mainstream medias. If you have seen any such links, kindly share. If not, we cannot create articles about Santhosh Pandit, Harishankar (Silsila fame) and other people who has created one single movie or album. --Sreejith K (talk) 10:21, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Problems with SreeBot[edit]

Today SreeBot moved two files I uploaded to Commons:

The files were missing most of their commentary regarding why they are considered to be free use as well as the multiple uploads of them in their unedited state which is proof that they have no copyright markings. This is not the first time SreeBot has moved files to Commons that I uploaded which were missing important information and they had to be re-done, either by others moving them again or by me pasting the information about them to the Commons file from the yet to be deleted WP file.

It looks to me like SreeBot may have some issues that need to be fixed. I don't want to stop sending files to Commons, but am considering this because the SreeBot transfers seem to be creating work for both myself and others. We hope (talk) 18:02, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your frustration. Actually SreeBot is not a bot, its an alternate account I am using to transfer images to Commons. I am using a custom script to create new Information template for uploading the image to commons, but it looks like it is not copying all the information. It is not a bot that runs unattended, but I was handpicking some images and trying the commons transfer. I will slowdown with my transfers and will be more careful from here on. --Sreejith K (talk) 18:16, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply. We hope (talk) 18:20, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Most of your uploads has multiple versions of files in it. No matter which commons transfer tool we use, it will transfer only the latest version of the file and will ignore the previous versions. If you want to keep both the versions of it in Commons as well, you will have to do a manual upload/transfer yourself or ask Magog to run the OgreBot on each of the files after the transfer is complete. --Sreejith K (talk) 12:45, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Am able to upload the uncropped version and then revert to the cropped/edited version provided that no one is too quick on deleting the file here. We hope (talk) 19:55, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please watch what files I've uploaded you transfer to Commons. Some of them are not tagged to go there because they would be of no use other than on this WP. this file was not tagged for Commons as it wouldn't be useful other than for information about the Chicago based radio station. We hope (talk) 20:03, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I moved the image you linked because it was a free license. Free licensed images should be hosted in Commons; that's why we have a project called Wikimedia Commons. --Sreejith K (talk) 02:28, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
We hope - this isn't Sree's fault, it's the deleting admin who should have verified it was transferred in full (although frankly Sree could have gotten it too). You probably would be better messaging Athaenara - I've already said something to her once (to no avail), so you might want to say something too. Magog the Ogre (talk) 04:20, 2 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I think I have solved this issue to an extend with my transfers. Please see the commons version of File:Gary Collins 1972.JPG. But we still have problems with Commons Helper removing all previous versions. May be you can ask Magnus to keep a log of files whose versions were lost in the transfer and OgreBot can pick that up. --Sreejith K (talk) 07:03, 2 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Think I've misunderstood something and that's re: some files transferring to Commons. Have some which really wouldn't be useful anywhere but here as they are for local media outlets. It seemed not to make sense to me to transfer something like that as this WP would be the only one to make use of it.

About the transfer, have marked all of those that have more than a single version with KeepLocal; in the event that a Commons transfer is made and it doesn't work out for whatever reason, there will still be a file to go back to here without undeleting. When the transfers of the files have been done with all the versions, they can then be marked as being on Commons and are OK for deletion here. Does this sound like a workable plan that doesn't made a lot of work for anyone involved? We hope (talk) 16:16, 2 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like a plan. I will move all the free files that you have uploaded with all its versions and will let you know when I am done. At that point, you can remove {{Keep Local}} template. Give me a week or so to complete this since I am on a vacation right now with limited internet reach. --Sreejith K (talk) 18:07, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Doing it like this also gives me the chance to go to Commons after some files have been transferred and add categories to them so they're not uncategorized once they've been moved. There probably will be a lot more to move as I've found a lot more free files that can be used here, so will be uploading more. We hope (talk) 23:44, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You'd probably do better just to upload them to Commons in the first place and save the headache for all of us. Magog the Ogre (talk) 23:59, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

SD tags on moves[edit]

On my talk page last night, I asked you to not remove the KeepLocal tags for the moved files because it creates a problem for me going to Commons and having the time to categorize them there. If you move the files, please let me remove the KeepLocal tags after that has been done by me at Commons. We hope (talk) 15:37, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I did not remove the Keep Local' tag on your images. I just added the Now Commons tag. Wikipedia mandates that files with a Keep Local tag should not be deleted even if it has Now Commons tag. In normal case, my edits should be reverted, but that will make the file appear in your watchlist and thats what I was planning. I apologize if I removed any Keep Local tag by mistake, I should not have done that. --Sreejith K (talk) 17:00, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Nothing that wasn't fixable, but it sometimes feels like the race of the century when all of these files need to be dealt with from my end both here and there. ;-) We hope (talk) 18:03, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Stories Project[edit]

Hello,

My name is Victor Grigas, and I'm a storyteller at the Wikimedia foundation. We're telling stories of Wikipedia users, editors, donors, programmers and staff to paint a picture of who uses Wikipedia - for the 2011 fundraiser.

I am in the process of planning a trip to India to gather stories from Indian Wikipedians in face-to-face interviews (possibly on video).

My primary goal is to conduct 15-20 interviews, and hopefully enough of my interviews will make compelling stories that will effectively solicit donations from the public. These stories may also be used for other communication purposes by the foundation.

I found your userpage on a list of prolific Wikipedians and thought I’d reach out to you. Prolific editing is always a good story to tell!

If you are interested in participating, please contact me via my email:

vgrigas@wikimedia.org

Thank you for your time!

Photo for I.M.Vijayan[edit]

Hello Sreeejithk2000,

I am relatively new to wikipedia. I saw that you had uploaded a picture of V. P. Sathyan obtained from Kerala Police website. I was editing the page of I.M.Vijayan and he does not have a picture. Do you think it would be fine under the copyright rules if I used his photo from one of the following sites: http://www.hindu.com/tss/tss2647/stories/20031122002804700.htm http://www.keralapolicehistory.com/gllry3.html http://www.iloveindia.com/sports/football/players/vijayan.html Do you have any other suggestions for finding a picture of Vijayan? Thanks (Shantham11 (talk) 11:23, 16 October 2011 (UTC)).[reply]

The photo of V. P. Sathyan is uploaded under fair use. Fair use images are allowed in Wikipedia under the condition that the person is no longer alive and so getting a free image is impossible. Hence I am afraid, we cannot use I. M. Vijayan's picture under fair use. Someone will have to photograph I. M. Vijayan and upload the photograph to Wikipedia for us to use a picture. --Sreejith K (talk) 11:31, 16 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A tip[edit]

Before nominating unidentified orphans for deletion, it's good to check the uploader's contributions at the time of the upload. (Generally the first thing someone does after uploading an image is adding to an article.) That allows you to identify the image so it can be moved to the commons. Thanks for your help with image maintenance! Calliopejen1 (talk) 15:28, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That should work, but I thought a better approach was to get the user get involved in editing his image again. Anyways, will take of this going forward. Thanks for the note --Sreejith K (talk) 05:59, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Classified Chemical Structures[edit]

Sorry to be a pain, could I please ask you to leave gifs and jpgs alone for now. I (think) the last plan was to move to commons, all svg (done) and png files for now - see discussion at Category talk:Unclassified Chemical Structures (it's got delayed,as you know by the CommonsHelper not wanting to work), a lot of the the gifs and jpgs just are not good enough quality. It didn't help that FBot came blindly in tagging everything for moving. I hope to start re-drawing the gif/jpg as svg, when we've finished moving the good ones.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:28, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That makes sense. I was thinking that we have more graphic editors in Commons and so its easier to convert to SVG over there. But if you think that's not the case, I will leave this category untouched. --Sreejith K (talk) 05:28, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Conversion is never great - converting a raster to vector - urgh. A standard single molecule will take me <1 minute to draw in SymyxDraw, then print to EPS file, import into Scribus, ungroup, remove the page border (annoying that SymyxDraw adds a fill A4 rectangle!), regroup, make a new blank drawing 10px bigger in both directions, cut and paste the fixed drawing, then export as svg. Sounds a lot, but once you get into the swing of it, it goes smoothly - overall less than 5 minutes to be ready to upload - and my commons home page has a link for the basic upload form, pre-filled in with PD-Chem permission set. The most fiddly bit is the print to file - MS has not changed this legacy part for years - just a simple text box for the file name, no browse to folder, etc., have to type in full path name!  Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:30, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Tagging with NowCommons[edit]

Hi! Good news... My bot is now tagging with NowCommons again. So it should just be a matter of time before all the files are tagged. I do not know how long it will take for the bot to work on all the files. --MGA73 (talk) 07:23, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Good to know that. This toolserver page says that there are 3651 entries currently. Most of them might have {{Keep Local}} or {{NoCommons}} template on it. I hope your Bot can tag the rest of the files in one single run. Thanks for spending time on this. --Sreejith K (talk) 07:36, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well had some problems... Bot does not like protected pages... But won't give us :-D --MGA73 (talk) 20:12, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If you can output the database query results to a subpage of your user page, may be I can loop through them either manually or semi-automatically. Only if you want me to help in that portion. --Sreejith K (talk) 10:12, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I got Magnus to link to a page with all the files. My bot worked on all of the pages now except the protected files, keep local etc. :-) --MGA73 (talk) 12:38, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That's nice. I just saw the link in Magnu's toolserver page which is quite helpful. You probably needs to run the bot once in a month or so, so that we do not have a backlog. But the duration is something you need to figure out. Thanks for working on this. --Sreejith K (talk) 06:33, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The new logo is here: File:International Film Festival of India Logo.jpg. While uploading, choose logo as the appropriate type and upload it in Wikipedia. If you need any help, let me know where you are confused. --Sreejith K (talk) 15:27, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanx, Can you say which license option to select under release right tab. -Rahulpattuvam talk 08:40, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If you select It is the logo of an organization in Wikipedia:Upload, then you can select Logo in the licensing dropdown. I hope that's what you were asking. --Sreejith K (talk) 10:08, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Actually the work I would request is here, not on Commons, is that okay?--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 08:09, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Does not matter. How can I help? --Sreejith K (talk) 08:28, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Offer to translate[edit]

Hi, further to your offer at User_talk:Magog_the_Ogre#Derivative_.22cartoon-ish.22_works - yes, please! I am hoping that the thread itself is pretty self-explanatory but I'll watch your talk page for any developments. Thanks for stepping in. - Sitush (talk) 09:39, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have summarized the discussion on the artist's talk page in ml wiki. I hope that helps. Additionally, I have also emailed him about it. --Sreejith K (talk) 10:08, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks very much. - Sitush (talk) 11:32, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I presume that you have had no response yet? I am unsure regarding how long this should be left hanging, although obviously the image has been there for a considerable time. - Sitush (talk) 11:06, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
There has not been any reply to my email or on his talk page. I do not think he frequents to internet. If you are to file a DR, then you probably should not wait anymore.--Sreejith K (talk) 13:51, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I've just nominated for deletion here. It is unfortunate because there is talent displayed, but if the thing is derivative etc then it is a problem. - Sitush (talk) 14:01, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You did not respond, but deleted my image[edit]

Hi

You left a message for me at User_talk:Martinvl about an image with incorrect copyright info. I resüponded there, but you ignored my response and deleted the image. Please reinstate the image and all links to it and advise me what I need to do.

Martinvl (talk) 07:47, 20 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am not an administrator and cannot delete images. The image was deleted by another user and I have left a note on his talkpage. See User_talk:Fastily#File:A38DriverLocationSign_km415.jpg. Lets see what he responds. --Sreejith K (talk) 08:19, 20 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
