Tom Delay-related edit (heading by me)

Hope this is how I am expected to post. My previous posts were not vandalism, I simply removed things that are not relevant to the article; as I see it, there are several message boards for the discussion of the rest of all that. In line with being an encyclopedia, it should be just the straight facts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.143.119.48 (talkcontribs) Titoxd 01:18, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

Thank you!

Hi Titoxd,

Thank you very much for your support on my RfA, and of course, your nomination that started it all :-) I was both surprised and delighted about the amount of support votes and all the kind words! If I can ever help with anything or if you have any comments about my actions as an admin, please let me know! Regards, JoanneB 13:20, 21 November 2005 (UTC)

GraemeL's RFA

Hi Titoxd,

I am now an administrator and would like to thank you for your support on my RfA. I was very surprised at the number of votes and amount of and kind comments that I gathered. Please don't hesitate to contact me if I mess up in the use of my new powers. can't-believe-it's-taking-so-long-to-thank-everybody. --GraemeL (talk) 15:39, 21 November 2005 (UTC)

GRFA

Titoxd, we have to end the edit war. I suggest putting the issue up for RfC, or maybe to put it up for deletion, to see whether or not the community really thinks it's worthless/dangerous. Whatever we do should be done soon, this really is becoming a candidate for WP:LAME Borisblue 03:20, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

If someone answered my comments on the talk page, I wouldn't be reverting. Titoxd(?!?) 03:22, 22 November 2005 (UTC)
Your comments on the talk page have been answered. Putting it up for deletion would be a waste of time, as it would clearly get a no consensus result. Having the views of more people than Durin and Borisblue would help, but it really wouldn't be necessary if their most blatant views were removed from the "guide".
I don't dispute that some of the stuff there actually happens, but rather that it only happens at the hands of a minority - which just happens to be led by the primary author of this page. With the removals, it serves as a handy guide to some of the pitfalls of RfA. Without them, it effectively endorses and encourages the use of some quite controversial criteria in such a way that it suggests that are standard practice with community support. This is the main reason why I continue to remove the disputed sections. Ambi 03:43, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

Fine by me. Let's go through them.

" less than three months of activity" → "limited activity":

  • I don't object too much on this one, but the fact is that three months is seen by some as the bare minimum. However, I wouldn't make a fuss if it stayed off the page. --User:Titoxd
    • There's no need to set a definite standard. Some do; some don't. Limited activity gets the point across just fine. Ambi 04:18, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

General advice section

  • I don't see why any of these should be deleted: it lists several criteria that should be considered, and it states that all of them should be taken into account. In a way, I think it helps to end that dreaded editcountitis.

Recommended behavior: I don't see why any of these points is objectable, but I'd like to hear your opinion on this section. --User:Titoxd

    • The page already states that people have different personal standards and links to a page where many of them can be found. This, however, sets them up in a such a manner that they appear as requirements - while I and many others hold some aspects of these, in this form it appears as if most or all of these are vitally necessary to be an admin. This is something that Durin holds, but it is not something that is widspread. In any case, it is just unnecessary. The link is there and the point is already made without providing the implicit endorsement of Durin's personal views. Ambi 04:18, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

Edit RfAs properly:

  • the first two points and the final one are recommendations that should not be deleted in my opinion. The rest... well, recommending against Extreme Lesbian Support seems too instruction creepish. --User:Titoxd
    • I'm less concerned about this one; some of the advice is quite decent, and recommending against "extreme lesbian support" votes could be the one useful thing that might come out of this - I find it annoying as hell, not to mention offensive. Ambi 04:18, 22 November 2005 (UTC)
  • The dreaded numbers:
    • I talked over with a bureuacrat on IRC (Rdsmith4) about these, and he explained that while bureaucrats are free to determine their own definition of consensus, these numbers are pretty accurate. Perhaps we might want the opinion of more bureaucrats on this section. --User:Titoxd
      • Why is this necessary? Ambi 04:18, 22 November 2005 (UTC)
I hope you guys can work things out, but won't the talk page be a better place to move this section? Borisblue 04:22, 22 November 2005 (UTC)
Did so already. Titoxd(?!?) 04:23, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

I've set the ball rolling for a WP:RFC survey to start, discussion is on the GRFA talk page. Please comment. Borisblue 04:11, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

Tito, thank you kindly for your note. Would I be remiss in sitting this one out? The problem is I currently have limited time for editing WP, so I'm just logging on for a short while every couple of days to answer notes and/or continue work I'm already involved with. I glanced at the discussion and it seems I'd have to get through quite a bit of text and diffs to form a useful opinion—I'm not familiar with the (Durin's?) guide. Anyhoo, how are things otherwise? Hi, Titoxd. Unfortunately, the source of the copyrighted material for the Zurn Commercial Brass article doesn't meet the definition of a commercial content provider, which is a company engaged in directly making money off the content of the material that has been copied. Zurn appears to be a plumbing fixture company, so they are trying to use the content to increase sales, not selling the content itself like an encyclopedia would. That really is the intention of CSD A8, which makes it only slightly better than worthless, as very few copyright violations are from such sources. I don't want the article to be undeleted, as I hate it when articles that everyone agrees should be deleted, are undeleted just to follow procedure. I just wanted to let you know for cases in the future. Thanks, Kjkolb 06:55, 23 November 2005 (UTC)

GRFA RFC

I really think we should do a WP:RFC survey. However, I think I've only visited RFC once, and I don't have a lot of experience in it, and I'm a bit clueless on how to start one (Wikipedia:Survey guidelines contains A LOT of instruction creep) Would you mind taking charge, before the Durin-Ambi dispute explodes? THanks Borisblue 21:24, 23 November 2005 (UTC)

I'm really not that experienced myself, but I'll try to do so later tonight. Titoxd(?!?) 21:25, 23 November 2005 (UTC)

Hi. You deleted this page, but it is not obvious to me that the Wikipedia:Disambiguation page should be at 3rd Degree instead of at Third degree. I'm not particularly invested in this, but isn't there some naming convention involved here? Jkelly 02:14, 24 November 2005 (UTC)

arin tab

ok, i'm working on it now, i copied yer monobook to my bots page and i'll test it there b4 i add it. everyone has so many different flavors of monobook, so i'm trying to customize it. a bit tired, so it may not b pretty, but it will function :) «»Who?¿?meta 03:11, 24 November 2005 (UTC)

Well darn. You have some funky stuff, and some redundant stuff in your monobook. I am still working on it, but if i dont get it tonite, i will try to get it tomorrow, it's kinda hard cuz your using 2 different styles of adding tabs, and I'm a little java-rusty. Have to get offline right now though, so will get back to it soon. «»Who?¿?meta 03:57, 24 November 2005 (UTC)
Hey, I know it's been a few days :) I just got a new place today, so if you havne't already got your arin tab working, I will try to work on it tomorrow nite, once I get all my stuff moved in. «»Who?¿?meta 01:10, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

Irritated as I am by the outcome of this "rhyme before reason" AfD, and despite the fact that if I had the powers I would have closed this as delete (assuming I hadn't participated of course, and with an extensive explanation as to why, and crossing my fingers at the same time), and despite the fact that I was suprised at Sjakkalle's slightly casual approach to this closure, I don't see any valid reason to contest it. This article is still crap, totally against WP:V and WP:CITE, and the whole "because Canadians say so" thing makes my blood boil... but life goes on. Perhaps in another four months I'll put it up again if there aren't some real sources cited.

If I had been the closing admin, how much hue and cry would have been raised if I ignored the "pure votes" and the "does not adress this article" comments?

CSD

Consider it a somewhat symbolic revert - the policy is a train wreck, and Kim's version improves many things. Should he put it in without consensus? Probably not. But I don't think Kim is wholly out of line either, and wanted to make that clear. Phil Sandifer 01:03, 25 November 2005 (UTC)

I do not expect to see a consensus on any rule, established or not, in the forseeable future of Wikipedia - the community has grown too large and too far from a homogenous philosophical commitment to the project for consensus to remain feasable. Phil Sandifer 01:08, 25 November 2005 (UTC)

What took sooo long?

Hey there,

Regarding the last block you made, you know, to the crusaders vandal, what took so long for the alarms to go off? He (or she) made over 20 vandal edits within 48hrs, and we only blocked that user recently. Just wondering is all.--Master Jay 03:09, 25 November 2005 (UTC)

Um, that no one told us? (I hadn't seen it, I'm not watching the CVU channel today, but it's likely that it wasn't in a regularily-vandalized page, so they weren't watching it.) Usually, when it gets posted on WP:AIV, I'll pick it up very quickly, if I'm here. Titoxd(?!?) 03:14, 25 November 2005 (UTC)

Good work -- I'm so excited to have this feature now! — Catherine\talk 04:31, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

About the copyright thing; it was suggested at Bug 800, and I thought I'd try it on for size; feel free to remove it. On the one hand, I'm not sure it's relevant to citations (and might give people a naive idea about "copying" us), and on the other, it doesn't seem to hurt to remind people that what we have is free for re-use. I was hoping for some other feedback, so let me know what you think. — Catherine\talk 22:34, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
I don't know why it wasn't working; perhaps there's something about too many divs, or the TOC template, or something else that's messing it up. For the moment, I'm reverting to the working version; the copyright thing certainly isn't important enough to screw up the display this badly (especially as more and more people are discovering this feature for the first time today). Thanks for trying to figure it out... — Catherine\talk 23:51, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

TfD log

I usually archive anything that appears in the listings, including speedies. I have occasionally just wiped speedies, though, when I've had a lot to do since all the info required should be in the deletion summary and they could have been deleted without ever appearing on TfD or its logs. So I think wiping them is fine. I always archive them, though, if any discussion at all has preceded the speedy in case it lands on DRV. That the fuzzy answer you were after? -Splashtalk 04:45, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

Vandal identified!!

Hello there Titoxd, it's Moe Epsilon. I contacted you because I saw you reverted some vandalism to my user page on November 24th. Thank you. I saw the edits by the IP accounts 63.18.246.17 and 63.18.172.52, suppose it was the same person twice, wrote "reverted fulger language, learn to spell". I remember when I wrote "reverted fulger language" on September 30th herein the edit history of Mcfly85's user page. It was a typo, I ment vulger not fulger. Im suprised I remembered that. Anyways, it said on his page, "Thanks for nothing bleep" or something of the sort and I took out the fulger vulger word. All kiding aside, I think McFly85 and the 2 accounts above should be blocked permantly for vandalizing my user page and Wikipedia. He makes nothing but bad edits and makes vandal IP accounts to insult users. Can you help? — Moe ε 01:04, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

OK, I might just do that. Thanks for the information. Cheers! — Moe ε 01:16, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

Do you think we should protect it, maybe for 15 minutes or so, just to get rid of this guy? Any thoughts? -Mysekurity 00:03, 29 November 2005 (UTC)

Well, it seems like the vandal attack has subsided now, so I don't think it is necessary anymore (the vandal probably ran out of IPs). However, if it restarts, I'd think protecting it might be warranted. Titoxd(?!?) 00:27, 29 November 2005 (UTC)

Essjay and Esperanza

Why did you revert my removal of the part of the notice. Essjay ain't coming back, he doesn't want to, just leave him alone. Jesus H. Christ. Quentin Pierce 01:48, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

I reverted it because it goes against the spirit of Esperanza: that's the whole point of the association, to have a support system for when stuff like this happens. I'll re-revert if you do it again. Titoxd(?!?) 01:57, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
Fine, I won't revert it. But you're just being a complete dick, you know that? Essjay wants to leave in peace, but you have to be a dick, and make everyone beg him. What's wrong with you? He just wants to go. He's a person and wants to leave. It's just a project, that if anyone wants to leave at anytime they can. No one should care, they should let them go. But you have no respect for anyone or anything. So I won't revert it, I'll let you all be dicks to someone, who just wants to move on. Quentin Pierce 02:02, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

Personal attack

Hi, please to be learning the difference between a personal attack and sarcasm. Re: motorised bicycle, I figured something more than just "no consensus" to give the warriors something to chew over might be useful. In this case, it had the desired effect, but reading back over what I said, I must concede that it could easily have blown up in my face. I'll take what you and Aaron Brenneman said to heart, and try to go easy on the rhetoric in the future. Thanks again, fuddlemark (fuddle me!) 15:03, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

editing question

Hi Titoxd, Why did you revert my edits to the University of Arizona page? The article is getting too long, and a new article was created specifically for athletics. I was eliminating otherwise redundant information. Please let me know. Thanks. Mxpc05 23:41, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

thanks

Thanks TitoXD for the explanation. I do appreciate the help with the article. The Arizona Wildcat Athletics article does contain much of the same info, but I do agree that the rivalries should remain on the main page. After some more consideration from other users, I believe eventually most of the championship info will be moved entirely to the AZ Athletics page, as with other universities (like U. Minnesota). I will remove the notable venues and mascot section, as it is available verbatim on the link, and the main UA article is already 30kb. Happy Wikipediaing! Mxpc05 00:56, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

Re: Edit counter

Hmm... is there a way to process the contributions besides copying and pasting all the contributions into a .txt file and parsing them? That was the (extremely crude) method I was thinking of; let me know if you can think of something better. By the way, do you know Java and/or have Java capabilities on your computer? Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 22:58, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

That's good. I've studied Java for two years now and have JCreator. I don't really know/understand how to process a query and add that in, but if you can do so, that would be great. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 23:08, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
OK, thanks! What I was thinking of for the "crude" method was approximating the number of edits you have (most people have a rough idea), change the URL to reflect the approximate number of edits, and then copy and paste the entire thing to the text file. Of course, this is extremely crude and cumbersome, so any method sounds better than this. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 23:14, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
Hmm... yes, that would make it more complex, which I'm not sure I'm that technically capable of handling. Also, if we're making a backup for Kate's Tool, if Kate's Tool relies on that server (which I'm not sure it does or doesn't), our backup probably shouldn't rely on the same thing, though if we're going to introduce a statistics tool we could. For the "crude" method, we could just ask the user to copy and paste contributions in 5000 edit intervals. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 23:22, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
Hello Titoxd - I've created a rough and crudimentary version that counts edit by parsing through someone's contributions in a .txt file. See User:Flcelloguy/Tool. Thoughts? Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 22:56, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
That would be great! I was actually planning on doing it this weeked, but you can go for it. I was thinking of using a tokenizer to parse through each individual line until it got to 7th word - if it equals "m", then proceed to the eigth word ("m" indicating minor, of course). Then use a series of if statements and substrings to check which namespace the edit belongs to (Wikipedia:, Wikipedia talk:, Talk:, Mediawiki:, Mediawiki talk:, Help: Help talk:, Portal:, Portal talk:, User:, User talk:, and everything else to article, unless I've missed a category or two). Let me know when you're done! Thanks a lot. Flcelloguy (A note?) 01:04, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

with AOL ips...

Users change IPs but it might be possible to do something like log a persons computer name, username (for computer) OS and some more specs also a cookie to make sure they are the same person and use all that to block AOL users. It should be added into the code. Also this can be used for IPs that have many users. --Adam1213 Talk + 04:25, 3 December 2005 (UTC)

Excuse me?

You did that why? -Splashtalk 02:37, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

No, they're not valid. There was presumably good reason for the devs disabling userpage creation too, no? -Splashtalk 02:42, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
Oh whatever. But I don't appreciate you simply overruling me without discussion. Give him the silly thing, and you can explain it to the next person who owns that userpage, on why they have been singled out. -Splashtalk 02:45, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
If you disagree with them, I don't see why you think they are right. If he wants a userpage, he stops irritating me and gets an account. Anyway, like I said, do as you please, and I'll pass the confused next-owner of the IP on to you. -Splashtalk 02:49, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

Titoxd, it's pretty obvious to me now that I have woken up what a total ass I was being to you and SCZenz last night (my time). I don't think we should hand out user-specific content to anon user pages (and I think we should remove it where we find it), but there was absolutely no call for me to say so in nearly such abrasive terms. Sorry. -Splashtalk 13:37, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

Who reverted the page, Splash? Did you? There's no history list, and no entry in the Recent Pages. This is abuse of the worst kind. "Irritating you" is not and never was my intent, nor have I attempted to do it. You irritated yourself by deciding that you know better than anyone. That is expressly not the purview of admins. 216.237.179.238 02:53, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

Splash may or may not have a valid opinion, but it's clear from his actions that he's hiding (from?) it. I've been civil through all of this; reminding him that adminship is not a license to censor the wikipedia is not uncivil. 216.237.179.238 03:25, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

thank you sir

you are an admin and a gentleman (with a serious thing for green...) 216.237.179.238 02:39, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

over the line

It was not over the line. I copied the quote verbatim. Admins do not have any right to censor the wikipedia nor even to make editorial decisions. They exist to prevent common vandalism and to intervene in interminable disputes. And they only exist because such problems are more prevalent than was predicted and the people who have actual authority over the wikipedia do not have time to deal with it all. Admins need to remember that, and they need to be told why policies exist, or they will make up their own reasons and apply the policies incorrectly. 216.237.179.238 16:12, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

I remeber what happened last time I asked...

Which makes me feel somewhat better about asking again, I can't be accused of "stacking the house". Please come and voice an opinon at Wikipedia_talk:Websites#Straw_poll regarding the facts of "syndication" indicating notability.

Although my RfA is not over yet, I figured that since so many people voted before it had been posted, I may as well start thanking people before it wraps up. It'll take me that long to thank everyone who voted anyway! Thank you for changing your mind and deciding to support, even after all those edit conflicts! I'll do my best as an admin to make the reality rise to the level of the dream. BD2412 T 05:06, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

I suppose I am...

How the hell did you know that :)? Yes, I am, I guess, after a fashion. I don't plan on editing much, but I still sometimes use Wikipedia, and I still have a fair amount of time sans work until January, and I figured I might as well pop in from time to time. Well, thanks for saying hello so quickly; it's nice to feel noticed. Take care, mate, Blackcap (talk) 07:20, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

May I have your assistance Sir?

Hey Tito, hope your studies and finals are going above par. I just recently joined Esperanza and I was wondering if you could give me an other fix for my sig like you did when the HTML Tidy went out a few weeks back. Maybe with the word edge in the trademark green? KnowledgeOfSelf green. I'd attempt it myself, but I would not want to risk the HTML Tidy going down again and my sig cause so much trouble. If I worded that in a way that is difficult to understand I apologize lol. Thanks KnowledgeOfSelf | talk. 07:25, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

Thank you very much. I just have one more question for you I welcomed a new user and he left this on my talk page is that a mirror site? Or what?
  • Thanks for the welcome!

I'm loving Wikipedia and building my own currently private wiki at http://www.actfor.org. -LXPK 04:50, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

Doh! I must recant myself. Now I think I have one more question! The Self in my name that is now green does that automatically signify that I am a part of Esperanza or do I have to add Wikipedia:Esperanza somewhere in sig? I think I should specify that when people scroll over my name and they touch the green portion I'd want it take them to the Esperanza page. And thanks I didn't know the MediaWiki software was free for public use that's intresting. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk. 07:49, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

To you I thank once again

I, KnowledgeOfSelf, award you this lets call it a "generic" barnstar for your helpful hints and kindness to me, and because I could not find a specific barnstar that would suffice.

Thanks again Tito you've done more than enough. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 08:00, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

Myg0t

Please delete all versions of Myg0t and replace it with a protected {{deletedpage}}, per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Myg0t (2nd nomination). — FREAK OF NURxTURE (TALK) 21:10, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

Protected, deleting now. Titoxd(?!? - did you read this?) 21:15, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
Edit conflict: Thank you for protecting it. Unfortunately, the IPs responsible for this have begun spamming the Myg0t text onto other pages. That's why I suggested deleting the history too, so they have nothing to copy & paste from. — FREAK OF NURxTURE (TALK) 21:17, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
Done now. However, which pages were affected by the cut-and-pasting? Titoxd(?!? - did you read this?) 21:18, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
Diffs: Judaism, Breast, Adolf Hitler, Breast (again), Wank, possibly others. — FREAK OF NURxTURE (TALK) 21:25, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
Ugh... I don't know if it would be acceptable to delete those diffs from the history, since they do constitute vandalism, so I would ask at WP:AN/I about that. Titoxd(?!? - did you read this?) 21:27, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
Well in that case, one can only hope that the other pages get edited often enough that the vandals can't find the text. I suppose there's no way to do a history search... Would that be feasible, even with a bot? — FREAK OF NURxTURE (TALK) 21:32, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
