Stirling's persisting with it, so I offered to go through mediation to settle this. Since you're still on IRC (I assume), you might want to ask a third party for a neutral take? -- NSLE (Communicate!) <Contribs> 06:25, 22 October 2005 (UTC)

Re: Signature

Hey there: Not sure how to handle my signature. Its gotten a little complex and I saw the User: Merovingian had done something similar to what I have. You mentioned "substing the template," which I am not sure what that means. Also, when the signature is placed in the Raw Sig part of my preferences page, then it leaves this bulky long string on the page, that makes further editing difficult for other users. (Personally, I don't like when other users have these really long complicated signature tags on the AfD pages and elsewhere, as it makes editing difficult). Any suggestions on how to substring it?Gaff ταλκ 07:43, 22 October 2005 (UTC)

Titoxd,
Disclaimer: This is not soliciting a "vote", god forbid. I'd be perfectly happy if you came and made some compelling argument to keep, in fact.

What this is is a little note to indicate that there is an, um, interesting discussion about what constitutes a reputable source, and I'd appreciate another someone of sound mind to participate. Not to suggest that any of the others involved are not of sound mind, of course.

Hi there

Hi Titoxd, I've just recnetly started patroling recent changes reverting vadalism and I'm just wondering sense we both warned the same user for vandalism what the " test4, and test5, blocked" mean if anything at all? I've kinda just been using my own warnings and such, but it seems to me those might be automated warnings? If they are I'd greatly appreciate if you would kindly explain to me on my talk page how to use them. Thank you very much KnowledgeOfSelf 01:32, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

  • Thank you very much it was very helpful, it seems this will become a custom of mine but i tend to leave jokes to wikipedians who are kind and helpful to me, it's one of the best way's to thank them in my view for laughter is a beautiful thing. LOL how corny was that huh? Anyway "cheers."
    • In the middle of a forest, there is a hunter who is suddenly confronted by a huge bear. In his fear, all his attempts to shoot the bear fail. Finally, he turns and runs as fast as he can. The hunter runs and runs and runs until he gets to a very high and steep cliff. With nothing left to do the hunter drops to his knees, opens his arms and exclaims,"Dear Lord! Please give this bear religion!" The sky darkens and lightning flashes. Just a few feet short of the hunter the bear stops, looking very confused. Suddenly the bear looks up into the sky kneels, and says,"Thank You, Lord for this food I'm about to receive..." KnowledgeOfSelf 02:08, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

The rollback button

This is a message for Titoxd and Carbonite, about this and this. I would like to remind you that the rollback button should be used only for reverting vandals. James Roosevelt, Sr.

Why thank you for reminding me of my error, I'm glad someone had nothing else better to do so that I could be reminded. I am well aware of the long slow tedious process of fixing somebody else's mistake, but I appreicate the link. Thank you ever so much, Titoxd. --Caponer 00:08, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

For what it's worth, it looks as though User:201.240.129.63 (contribs) was trying to fork off the Ratings creep section, which I just turned back into a redirect[1] to MPAA film rating system. I don't know what the accepted method is for spliting off an article section; should it be discussed on the talk page first? —HorsePunchKid 00:45, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

Why did you revert my edit?

The article you reverted was wrong -- it was even internally inconsistent. I was just trying to correct it! Chern classes don't depend on a Riemannian structure on the base manifold. In fact, they have little to do with a Riemannian structure at all. Furthermore, the equation F=dA was totally wrong. The entire example was a non-sequitur.

You want your encyclopedia to be as good as it can be? Then please stand aside. I have no time to deal with drones. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.204.6.171 (talkcontribs) 05:08, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

Sorry about that, but the equations have been checked in the past before by WikiProject Mathematics, and if the article is :indeed incorrect, please mention that in their talk page. The modification seemed too different, that's all.
The articles were basically the same! I was just conveying the information correctly. Please go and re-read them. Thanks. (The equation F=dA is wrong, or at the very
least misleading. At least, it doesn't agree with the linked reference, which I wrote -- partly.)
The only linked reference is for a book by Jurgen Jost ... are you Jurgen Jost? and in what sense did you write it "partly"? The book lists no co-authors. (Great book, by the way, I like it) linas 06:38, 1 November 2005 (UTC)
Anyway, it wasn't the equations I was objecting to per se. It was the fact that Chern classes have nothing to do with a Riemannian structure. (I could say more
but I would be wasting my time.) Anyway, I'm a math instructor who works in the field, so I actually do know what I'm talking about.
Hi anonymous. Thanks for your edits to Chern class. However, please try to avoid being rude when others attempt to engage you in conversation (the remark about "drones" is uncalled-for). The bits that you removed, about symmetric polynomials being generated by an expansion of the determinant, was indeed a non-sequiter, but was meant to be of an expository nature, providing insight. linas 06:33, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

A big oversided wikithanks for the barnstar! — BRIAN0918 • 2005-11-1 07:02

My Apologies...

...concerning my comments towards your reverting of my James Roosevelt, Sr. edits, I received your message at an inconvenient time and I shouldn't have been so crass. Because you have an eye for organization, I was wondering if you would be so kind as to assist me with ideas for reorganizing the Hampshire County, West Virginia article. It's gotten a bit too large and I feel it could be organized a bit better and more in-line with Wikipedian format. I would like to retain the information and sections, just in a different way. Let me know if you would like to be of any help! --Caponer 00:00, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

Nice to know the system still works

Hello, Doctor. For the record, I'm not a bot, and I review every single edit I revert, I only have a tool that makes the process faster, the rollback given to Wikipedia administrators. But don't worry, I wasn't insulted. However, other users might not appreciate similar comments, so I still recommend you listen to Linas's advice. Titoxd(?!?) 21:07, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

Anyway, I was rude to you as Linas pointed out. But your revert came too quickly, in my opinion. To me it was clearly the work of an automated tool (a "bot"). Using such tools can be a double-edged sword. Thankfully, there was a thoughtful human at the other end in this case.
On the other hand, I would like to thank you for your thoughtfulness. I believe that my submission was entirely true to the spirit of Wikipedia. I was providing a clear and concise formulation of the Chern class. My alterations to the page would never have made it through were it not for you and Chris Matthews of Wikimath. Zorrothecorrector
