Printing downloaded PDF[edit]

Lately I have been unable to print PDF files downloaded from Wikipedia to my Mac. When I try to print a PDF file I can see a process called "dclfinder" start up. This process goes into an endless 100% cpu loop and I never get to see any printout. I have removed and re-installed the latest printer driver and also replaced the printer cable to no avail. I am still able to print files from other sources so I am confident the problem is not hardware-related. I am now inclined to think the problem lies in macOS but I don't know who to turn to for more insight or a solution.

I am running macOS Sierra 10.12.2 on a mid-2011 iMac (3.1GHz Intel Core i5 with 20GB of RAM).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikipun (talkcontribs) 00:07, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If you don't get an answer here, try WP: Reference desk/Computing.  --2606:A000:4C0C:E200:881F:3C0:3831:70F (talk) 04:10, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

How can I change the name of an article to make it more accurate?[edit]

How can we get the name of an article changed to be more accurate?

The article at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smith_%26_Wesson_Model_910 is about the S&W 910 and 915, two closely aligned and similar pistols. The title just features the 910. Can the title be changed to "Smith and Wesson Models 915 and 910"? That would be far better.

I just updated the article -- which had a number of omissions and errors -- and would like to make the final fix, the title.

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiRover469 (talkcontribs) 04:12, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You could separate the material and create a new article for 915, but if they should stay together use the "move" tab. If the move is likely to be contentious, you should discuss on the article talk page first Jimfbleak - talk to me? 07:15, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Jimfbleak: WikiRover469 doesn't have a move tab, because they're not yet confirmed.
@WikiRover469: Please see WP:MOVE. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 11:51, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Superimpose[edit]

While fixing minor errors at Regressive delta, I discovered a pile of detailed code, which led me to the template it's using, its 2010 TFD, and its transclusions despite the TFD. I accordingly replaced the template on one article with its specified replacement, {{Superimpose}}, but the map ended up on the left side, and Superimpose doesn't appear to have any options for right-side placement. Any suggestions for putting that template at right without involving cellpadding="2" cellspacing="1" class="hintergrundfarbe5" style="float: right; width: 150px; font-size: 90%; margin-right: 1em;" and class="hintergrundfarbe2" style="text-align: left;" as part of the coding? Nyttend (talk) 12:25, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think you can not. Ruslik_Zero 18:51, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Do we have English equivalents for the German that was used here? I don't think "hintergrundfarbe" should be part of our coding if we can help it. Nyttend (talk) 01:45, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The class was actually useless because it is undefined in enwiki. Ruslik_Zero 19:20, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Link to particular edit[edit]

Is there a way to link to a particular 'Difference between revisions' using a wikilink in brackets instead of the url? This one, for example. Thanks, Leschnei (talk) 14:37, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Leschnei: Yes, using Special:Diff, such as, in your example, Special:Diff/406294061. Pppery 14:41, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent, thank you. Leschnei (talk) 15:09, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
...and follow-up question, since that gives me an excuse to ask it: can you get the diff number otherwise than by pulling the history page, making a "compare revisions" and stuff (which takes a looong time)? I post all my diffs as "external" links because of that. TigraanClick here to contact me 21:34, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think you can avoid going to the History page, Tigraan, but once there you can hover over the "prev" link and see the diff number in the URL in your browser's address bar. --ColinFine (talk) 23:38, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't have to be the history page. It could be your watchlist; recent changes; related changes; or a user's contributions. Basically, anywhere that provides links to either a diff, or to a revision that isn't the current revision. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 18:43, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

same film[edit]

I found two articles about the same film:

Queryzo (talk) 22:55, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

True. Well noticed, Queryzo, thank you. WP:Merging tells you how you can go about merging them, or start a discussion if you don't feel confident about doing it yourself. --ColinFine (talk) 23:41, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The original and earlier article is titled with the English translation of the film, so no wonder it has lead to two articles. Suggest redirect of La Tarea and merge. The Dutch version of WP reads: Die Hausaufgabe. Therefore, the English entry will then link to both Spanish and Dutch articles.--Aspro (talk) 23:54, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not very familiar with merging articles in enwiki, so I hope you can help.

Yes, leave the house more often and perhaps attend some film addiction rehabilitation sessions ;¬) Good research though! Thanks.--Aspro (talk) 13:21, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What you gonna do with them now?
By the way:

  • I think the best way to deal with this is what the editors above have suggested; either propose a merge in case the contents are significantly unique in either of the articles OR, if you find the content of one article very similar to the other, then you could simply redirect one article to another. Hope this helps. Lourdes 08:20, 24 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    As I'm not really part of the english wikipedia, I want to please you to initiate the necessary steps. I think in most of the cases the articles are not very good, so maybe it's possible to redirect some of them. Queryzo (talk) 14:19, 24 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
