You need to fix an error

For Actor Patrick Muldoon you have him as 48 years old. This is incorrect, if he was born in 1968 he would be 43 & not 48. I was born in 1963 & am 48 & not a day older. Fundraiser story message won't go away

how to annotate images for other information

How do I annotate, just once, several Wikimedia images so that other editors can edit the annotation later? If that's not an option, so that I should annotate separately on each image, what's the standard way to add an annotation that doesn't seem to fit any of the headings I've seen lately on Wikimedia image pages?

This would be helpful because an image was used in a Wikipedia template and it was objected to because off-Wikipedia use was too rare for the image to be relevant to an article. While a consensus favored use and use has stabilized, the question could arise again. I've just found a significant off-Wikipedia example of use, and I'd like to annotate the handful of Wikimedia images to cite the off-Wikipedia example. Other editors might like to do likewise if they find more examples.

Please be more specific. What images? What discussion? What template? Do you really need to annotate the images, or is this merely the step you find yourself blocked on in search of the goal? (I haven't done much with annotations, but I was sort of under the impression that the intent is to inform readers rather than editors. See for example Template:Annotated image/Extinction, which has annotations apparently aimed at ordinary readers, rather than inside information aimed at editors. Have you seen examples of image annotations being used by editors to communicate with other editors? Are you using the word "annotation" in the MediaWiki sense? E.g., Template:Annotated image.) When you mention "Wikimedia" do you refer to Wikimedia Commons? There is a commons:Commons:Help desk. commons:Help:Gadget-ImageAnnotator says:

• "Image annotations in general should highlight features, details, or points of interest within an image. A description of the image as a whole is better placed on the image description page directly (click the "edit" link at the top of the page to do so)."

Depending on what you mean by "annotation" that may not be the best way to leave a comment about the image itself. The {{Information}} template on an image page has a description field you can use to leave comments about the image. For lengthy comments, you can use the image's talk page. There is probably no foolproof way to insure that all future users of an image will become aware of whatever you are trying to tell them. Another option is to document image use guidelines in the relevant WikiProject, but again there is no guarantee that all future editors who should follow the guideline will be aware of it. --Teratornis (talk) 21:09, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

I missed the Wikimedia help desk; that was my fault.

The problem applies to any image or small set of images (for a large set of images it would probably make sense to write a custom template and add it to all the affected images, and I don't propose to do that). It also applies to any article and to any template that puts content on an article page. That's why I didn't specify the image, the article, or the template in this case.

The goal is to inform editors who may be concerned about the appropriateness of an image by providing at the image information related to the image, but which doesn't directly describe the image. The goal is not to engage in article-specific talk at the image page; that can still be done at the article talk page.

I called what I want to write an annotation and meant it in a generic sense. I didn't call it a comment because a comment is hidden except in editing mode. When editors view Commons images, they're not usually in edit mode in Commons, so a comment doesn't fit the problem.

I doubt readers who don't edit are often accessing Wikimedia Commons. People who access Commons are probably editors. Editors being the intended audience, I want to attach the annotation to where editors will see it, without concern for whether nonediting readers see it. Talk pages anywhere will likely not be useful for an image annotation, especially after archiving, which forbids editing the annotation, whereas I want to add an annotation that remains for as long as it's useful (presumably years) and is editable whenever editors see fit, by the same standards for editing other content. WikiProjects may not be accessed by all editors who are interested in something; I usually don't access most WikiProject pages. I didn't want to depend on a script; my browser periodically tells me that a Wiki script is slowing things down and I stop the script without even knowing what it's supposed to do, so I don't want to inflict scripting on other users.

I don't recall an example of an editing-relevant annotation on an image page, but maybe I missed one. That's why I asked how to go about doing this in a standard way. The {{Information}} template seems to have much too much to be useful for simply adding some information; adding that template would probably confuse people, so it's likely another method is needed. If nothing else comes up, I'll invent something or turn to a solution that most editors will likely miss. If the problem is any clearer now, suggestions are welcome. Thanks again.

Basic Angle called out on Lead Thread

I work for a manufacturing Company in New Jersey and I was given aif Drawing for a specific part where all of the threads sections have a basic 45° call out a thread there is a 45° basic with no reference to a positionalA tolerance or angularity or form or datum. Even though there is a reference in the ANSI Y14.5 standard to a basic angle by itself i do not believe it applies, therefore my question is: is there a thread specification that allows such a callout? or some other circumstance that it applies?I would appreciate a response if possible if not I thank you anyway for your time.

Adding pages to books.

hi , I have been using wikipedia to compile some articles on ancient history and have already downloaded about 300 in 2 separate books.I generally hover on a link and an option pops up to add the linked page to my book.But for the past few days this option is not coming up.Even after hovering on the link for quite some time it is not coming up.I have tried it with many links and the problem persists there as well.I have tried it with both Firefox and Chrome but with the same result. Integration of Picture

For the article Cinterion Wireless Modules I want to replace the logo, since there is a new one. So I uploaded the new file via Files for Upload! (to be correct, an experienced wikipedian accepted the logo and uploaded it).

Now I would like to use the uploaded picture to replace the logo, but how can I see the name of the file now? I need this information to replace the logo.

The new logo was uploaded with the same name as the old one, File:CWM logo.png, so the article doesn't need editing. I am seeing the new logo in the article. Does mediaWiki support cross domain Gadget development?

I have searched the archives and FAQ without finding a solution. I developed a customized wiki Gadget which is on my local server. Everything works fine on the local server, however, when I try to access my Gadget from Wiki skin.js, it keeps giving me error. I am sure it is a cross domain problem. How do I solve this problem? Any one knows how to resolve a cross domain javascript problem in wiki? Unable to remove PDF from internet that was uploaded with wiki

I uploaded a PDF file in 2007 and have eversince deleted the file from my wiki account, but it remains on the internet.

Is there anything that can be done to remove it from the internet?

Neathergate

I visited Wikipedia to view what had been written on the Neathergate scandal. I was surprised that my search for 'Neathergate' yielded no results. However when I searched the name 'Andrew Neather', I was rewarded with an interesting article on the controversy. I think most people know of this by the sobriquet ' Neathergate'. How does one construct a link to the existing entry?

To redirect from Neathergate to Andrew Neather, you would click on the redlink Neathergate, and insert

See WP:REDIRECT. There is a mention of Andrew Neather in Political scandals in the United Kingdom#2000s but it is merely a list item, and not a separate article that you could redirect to. If you want to create a redirect to that particular list item, you would have to create an anchor in the item (for example, with {{Anchor|Neathergate}}), which would then let you create a redirect page with the text:

There is also Criticism of multiculturalism#New Labour and multiculturalism with much the same content. Since that is already a section suitable as a link target, a Neathergate redirect could link to it as:

What exactly is the article supposed to be based on? The whole thing seems to be based on Neather's unverified claims. I can't see how it can be justified reporting it as a 'scandal' in the first place, never mind having an article about it. AndyTheGrump (talk) 21:43, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

Checking the history of the 'scandals' article, the section on Neather seems to have been added recently by a single IP, with no discussion - and the IP has made assertions not backed up by the sources provided. I'm going to remove it entirely. If anyone wants to include it there, or with an article, they will have to demonstrate more evidence of a 'scandal' than that. No, because all edits you made under a specific account must be attributable to that account. This is required by the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License under which Wikipedia content is licensed. Toshio Yamaguchi (talk) 11:36, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

What are the two accounts in question? If you no longer want to use a specific account and have another account, simply stop using one of the accounts. Also you can put something like Template:Alternative user or Template:Former account on your userpage to indicate your connection to a specific account. Reducing the image sizes ought to help. 150px is one possibilty; try it out and use "Show preview" to see the effect. - David Biddulph (talk) 15:33, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

For such a short article, three images is a bit of overkill. Especially since they all show basically the same thing, a man pitching a baseball. And in the "May 2009" image, you can't really tell it's him unless you click through to the full image. Dismas|^(talk) 16:23, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

It's a problem with {{infobox MLB player}}. The markup in the article as of this revision works fine with a proper infobox (I tested with the one from Michael Jordan). It Gets Better Project & Youtube as a reference.

The page It Gets Better Project has almost all of its references to Youtube. These are of the form *[[Gene Robinson]]<ref>{{cite web |url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPZ5eUrNF24 |title=IT GETS BETTER: Gene Robinson, Bishop of New Hampshire |publisher=YouTube |accessdate=2010-10-14}}</ref>. Is there anything that particularly should be checked on for references of this type (other than having a date= in addition to an accessdate= field in the cite web. For a good number of these, we may be able to find the same video on It Gets Better website (http://www.itgetsbetter.org/) , there are a few like Anna Paquin. Who even though part of the HBO:True Blood group ended up with it only one youtube, not on the IGB website.

Opinion on image copyright appreciated

Hi everyone, recently I uploaded a number of images but one was flagged for deletion. As the images are alike they in fact all are dubious. Special:ListFiles/AlwaysUnite.

I got the images of flood.firetree.net where it says "Data provided by NASA" in the bottom right corner. This seemed to me to be enough but I must admit that I'm new to uploading images and its policies. Please comment on the legality of their use. If they aren't living up to standards I'll flag them to be removed. The quality of the images is pretty poor and is way less than the site provides so don't they make a case for fair use anyway? The site uses NASA data about terrain heights to calculate which areas would be under water, and then uses the Google API to cover these parts with a blue overlay. So while the height data is from NASA, the pictures themselves are from Google... DS Belgium ٩(͡๏̯͡๏)۶ 23:31, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

Error on my laptop while opening any wikipedia article

I use a Sony VAIO laptop which has Windows VISTA and IE 8. From last three or four days, I am getting error while opening any wikipedia article from my internet explorer. It gives error "windows has stopped working". "Looking for a solution". I then click on "Close program". Thereafter wikipedia article opens up. Norton Antivirus and Microsoft Security Essentials have not indicated any spam attack. Moreover, this error comes only for a wikipedia article and not for any news websites or deals websites.

I dont know whether its an issue with wikipedia or whether its an issue with my laptop.

Piping links to Special pages

Create a template page that redirects?

Every single time I want to warn a user not to do promotional edits, I type the wrong thing: {{uw-promo}}. The correct template is {{uw-advert}}. Even though there's nothing at {{uw-promo}}, I keep making the same mistake. Can I create the respective {{uw-promo}} templates and have their content be just redirects to the corresponding advert templates? Would that work if I warned a user and typed "promo" in the template? Thanks. CityOfSilver 22:16, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

if then else using numbers

I am trying to get a template to do the following:

• render some text containing a number where the number is a supplied parameter to the template and furthermore where the number must be an integer between 1 and 6 inclusive or else it will
• render no text if an appropriate number is not supplied to the template

I have tried many so-called 'help' pages on various "if" expressions but cannot find any assitance; most of them seem to require a text string to operate on but I plan on using an integer, not text. Any suggestions as to where to look? Newwhist (talk) 23:03, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

Search for tagged pages and included templates.

The first section of Wikipedia:Accuracy dispute has a link recent list of disputed articles that performs a search for the phrase "The factual accuracy of this article is disputed". It returns no results.
The exact wording in the message box seems to have changed to "This article's factual accuracy is disputed", so I tried a search for that, no result.
I figured maybe the search dated from a previous implementation of templates where the text of the template was included in the source code of the page, and maybe I should search for the template itself, like "{{Disputed|date=October 2011}}". That does return results, but many of them don't seem to contain the tag in question.
Is there a good explanation somewhere on how to search for tags or how the pages are indexed? The pages I've come across so far did not help in solving this problem (and often dealt with indexing by external search engines instead). While the mediawiki Help:Searching page refers to Wikipedia:Searching for more information, the page itself contradicts the wikipedia page on at least one thing: Even if you enclose a phrase in quotes, the search looks for each word individually. e.g., if you enter "world war 2" it will return pages that contain "world" and "war" and "2".
