FDB suggestions

I have some two more ideas for FDB response template. First can be for unclear messages. Many users don't specify their experience, and that is why the response has to decided on the basis of the mood they have selected. The second one can be for those newbies who are feeling that thy have been bitten by other users. I have seen many such feedbacks where users have expressed sadness over the attitude of other users. Jonathan Drubner Wiki

I represent Mr. Drubner and wanted to make his Wikipedia page more resourceful to represent who he is not only on camera but behind the scenes and in the community. I am confused as to why you believe the article i keep posting is copied. Any bio on ESPN or any other site is property of Drub-Enduced entertainment where I do work and represent. I want to make Mr. Drubners Wikipedia page more informative especially his prior work to ESPN. Please resolve this issue so I can make this happen. Thank you and sorry for the constant questions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JordanLacrosse1729 (talkcontribs) 19:26, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi Jordan. There are multiple problems with your edits to the Jonathan Drubner page. First and foremost, you have a clear conflict of interest - it is therefore highly inadvisable for you to edit this page. If you want to see alterations made to the text, the most appropriate way to approach this is to post your proposed amendments on the article's talkpage, so that other editors can assess their neutrality.
Secondly, we have no guarantee of your identity. I'm not for a moment suggesting that you don't work for Mr Drubner, but if you do in fact have permission to release the text from ESPN (which seems unlikely, since you don't work for them - you'd have to provide evidence that copyright for the text was retained by Drub-Enduced Entertainment (surely "Drub-Induced"?) and was not released to ESPN) then you would need to prove it - I'm afraid we cannot simply rely on your say-so for copyright issues. Details on how to submit copyrighted material can be found here. However, since the text is promotional, rather than encyclopedic in tone (would you expect to see statements like: "And if you’re asking yourself, is that the same “Drubner” who wrote, directed, and starred in the award-winning short film musical comedy, “Antiterror Man,” about life in New York City the day after 9/11, yup... that’s him" in the Encyclopedia Britannica?) it is highly unlikely that it would be accepted into the article even if it was released under a suitable licence.
Finally, the same information was previously added by another account, User:MAXAARON1729. If this is also you (the appearance of the string 1729 makes this seem pretty likely) then you should be aware that operating multiple accounts is a blockable offence, especially when they are being used to add copyrighted, promotional material to a biographical page. Abscence of copy rights violation for Ram Kishore Shukla

There is no evidence available which can establish a Copyright violation please check, I am restoring the article. It violated copyright as per revision done by user:Pharaoh of the Wizards "Remove text copied without ORTS persmisson from 1", which is appearing absent now, Please contribute Ballisticizer (talk) 12:12, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

See my note on the article's talkpage. Whether the Sharma article now appears online or not is irrelevent; the fact is, you did not write that text, and you have no evidence that the original author released it under an approriate licence. Unless a text is specifically released under CC-BY-SA or similar, we cannot copy from it. We cannot "assume" that something is free of copyright simply because there is no online version. I will be undoing your restoration of the text; unless you or another editor can demonstrate that it has been released by the author under a free licence, Wikipedia cannot legally host such content. Yunshui  12:19, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

B.D.Sharma is my grand father, i am his grand son Arunabh Sharma, top to bottom article has been rewritten totally in an entirely different tone. please permit to retain the article. I just gone through the website, it uses licenses from Creative Commons as Public domain, although as article text was rewritten entirely it does not do anything called Copyright violation, Please consider --Ballisticizer (talk) 12:25, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

What is the actual licence under which your grandfather released the content? There are a number of Creative Commons licences, and not all are suitable for use on Wikipedia. Yunshui  12:27, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

I do not remember actually sir, but it was CC free for any use internationally, this is india if we were as fluent as you what will be the problem, In the end i am telling this article is about my maternal grand father and my grand father helped me to write it, it is not that complex you are thinking, please respect my labour i have spent months on this article, i beg of you, Thank you --Ballisticizer (talk) 12:34, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Sir, please reply --Ballisticizer (talk) 12:37, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

I appreciate that you've put a lot of work into this article. Give me a short while to open the thread; I'll post a talkback template on your page when I'm done so that you can add your comments. Yunshui  12:42, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Images

Hi Yunshui, thank you very much for your very comprehensive instructions they were a great help. I was wondering if you could give me so more of this type of help regarding uploading and embedding images. I am trying to upload images to put into my article I have permission for this from owner and I have forwarded this to permissions wiki or whatever its called but having technical issues about uploading the images have resized them and they are jpegs so there shouldnt be any trouble on this front so can't understand why they are not being uploaded?(Jkidner (talk) 12:53, 20 July 2012 (UTC))

If the images have been released under an appropriate licence by the copyright holder (i.e. they've licenced the pictures for reuse and alteration under a CC-BY-SA or GFD licence) then you should be able to upload them to Wikimedia Commons. Start with the Commons Upload Wizard here and just follow the steps. The Wizard will automatically generate a code (it'll look a bit like this: ) which you can copy and paste into your article to display the image. Let me know how you get on. Yunshui  13:03, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for your response The images have the CC-BY-SA tag. Is this enough with the permission email? I am following all the steps and then it says image is being uploaded which seems to take an age and a half to upload. I never get any message to say that it has been uploaded.(Jkidner (talk) 13:36, 20 July 2012 (UTC))

If they're available under CC-BY-SA, they're fine; you don't need to worry about getting email permission from OTRS. Do you have a record of the filenames you were trying to upload the pictures under? If I know what you called them, I can have a look to see if they've uploaded or not. As far as I can see from your contributions, the answer's "not"... Yunshui  13:41, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi if you wouldn't mind having a look I would be very grateful. I have just tried to upload another image and again it saids image uploading for ages without a message to confirm it has uploaded safely. Thanks again for your time(Jkidner (talk) 15:26, 20 July 2012 (UTC))

Sorry the image I've just tried to upload is called Moving_Green.JPG(Jkidner (talk) 15:31, 20 July 2012 (UTC)) Hi Yunshui, Good news I've solved the problem it was a very slow and sporadic interntet connection. I am working at a different computer so it works (Jkidner (talk) 16:38, 20 July 2012 (UTC)) Hi again, sorry to keep pestering you but can I have just a little more help having now successfully embedded my images in my article is there any way I can align the images to the centre or the left rather than having them all on the right please?(Jkidner (talk) 17:10, 20 July 2012 (UTC))

Yep, just change to , for example. Yunshui  19:27, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

If you use Twinkle, you can set your preferences to automatically record all your CSD tagging (tick the box marked "Keep a log in userspace of all CSD nominations"). Otherwise, the only way I can think to do it is to create a User:Anbu121/CSD log page and add to it manually each time you tag a page, I'm afraid. Yunshui  10:34, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

My RFA Question

I like the answer - just a couple things (plus an answer to your question). There are elements of it which are true and bits which I've exaggerated. Yes the consensus bit on a BLP is correct (it was a very unknown person (would have been deleted for notability is someone took it to AFD)) and about 7 users had decided to use an unreferenced version (the verifiable truth wasn't the opposite but it was different to what the consensus was). The bit about the rollbacker is true they issued a 4im warning for something which should not have been reverted and wouldn't respond when the IP user asked them about it and wouldn't respond, then the IP put it back they reverted it again and didn't respond when I asked them about it. Hi Andrew. Sorry, but that wall of text was never going to get read at ANI, which is why I hid it (it's still there; clicking the "Show" link at the end of the hatnote will reveal the hidden text if other readers do want to look through it). A Request for Comment, on the article talkpage, would be a much more sensible idea. I'd also suggest that you try breaking the issue down; deal with one thing at a time rather than trying to fix the whole problem with a single enormous dissertation.
If the IP user posts an SPI report against you then you can challenge it there, but random accusations of "you're a sockpuppet" are pretty common fare - just ignore it. If you comment at the ANI thread again, I would suggest that you simply explain what you want the administrators to do (block the IP, protect the article etc.) and leave it at that; most admins are more than capable of assessing a situation without you having to provide every source in the universe that supports your position. Hi,Please visit here.Thank You -25 CENTS VICTORIOUS 07:28, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

There was a reason why I reverted it and I feel that the notable alumni list is not necessary. At first, it was just displaying the one person who he made an entire article full of accuasations but he's adding more alumnus to get away with his change. I was following Wikipedia:Notable alumni as a guideline even though it is inactive and these people are not significant to make any contribution to the article at hand. I need your opinion regarding this. ViriiK (talk) 07:45, 25 July 2012 (UTC) Also, I'm going by WP:NLIST as well to guide this. But I'm just going to end up getting reverted anyways which will result in an edit war. ViriiK (talk) 07:50, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi ViriiK. I've trimmed the list still further, limiting it only to individuals who are notable enough to have their own article already. Per WP:Source list, list entries need to meet the notability guidelines, and the simplest way to confirm that is to ensure that the people listed already have an article about them. In a couple of cases, I may have been overly severe in my pruning (one or two names on there may actually pass the notability requirements but simply haven't been written about yet); if that's so we can create pages for them and add them back in. Grand, I'm glad I was able to help. Yunshui  07:23, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi Yunshui,

Since the information of Gold Peak, GP Batteries Int'l Ltd and GP Industries Ltd is outdated, we therefore update the information and add back the corresponding external links. Please review again and do not revert my information on Gold Peak. Thanks.

Capasserby (talk) 08:59, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

Your addition was self-evident spam; statements such as, "GP Batteries supplies an extensive range," "Its extensive array of products," "innovative battery technology" are promotional and utterly inappropriate in an encylcopedia. You also added a direct link to the company's online shop in the article text, which is contrary to Wikipedia's guideline for external links. In addition, it appears from your response that you work for the company, meaning that you have a clear conflict of interest. The text is also a very close paraphrase of this site, and is hence a copyright violation. Please do not add your PR piece back into the article again. Yunshui  09:07, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi Yunshui,

How about if I move away those words with promotional effects? Since the information contained in the profile now is totally outdated, we should provide up to date and accurate information in an encyclopedia. Please note.

Capasserby (talk) 09:41, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

If you can rephrase the information in non-promotional terms then there's no problem - you could even theoretically use the website as a source for the information, if you cited it correctly. Why don't you post the proposed revision here or at the article's talkpage first, and we'll see what we can do. Yunshui  09:43, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi Yunshui, Please help have a look and review at the proposed version with factual statements below:

GP Batteries International Limited

GP Batteries is engaged in the development, manufacture and marketing of batteries and battery-related products[2]. GP Batteries supplies battery products to original equipment manufacturers, leading battery companies as well as consumer retail markets under GP brand name. Its products include primary batteries (alkaline, carbon-zinc, lithium, silver oxide), rechargeable batteries (nickel metal hydride, lithium-ion and lithium polymer) and chargers. GP Batteries also produces batteries for electric vehicles like Vectrix scooters, and emergency starter batteries using thin metal film lead acid technology. GP ReCyko+ is the new generation nickel metal hydride battery equipped with the latest battery technology. It can be recharged and reused up to 1,000 times, equivalent to 1,000 pieces of alkaline batteries.

GP Industries Limited

GP Industries is mainly engaged in the development, manufacture and marketing of electronics and acoustics products, like KEF consumer speakers and Celestion professional speaker drivers, and automotive wire harness.

GP Industries also holds a 100% interest in GP Industries Marketing Limited, which is engaged in the marketing and trading of parts and components, and personal hygiene and health care products.

Definitely an improvement, but product lists are still regarded as somewhat spammy. Given the actual information there, I think all of the above could be mereged into a single section. I'd suggest trimming it to something like this:

Holdings

Gold Peak operate a number of subsidiary companies. GP Batteries is a manufacturer and distributor of batteries for the commercial and retail sector. Their range includes electric vehicle and rechargable nickel-hybrid batteries. GP Industries develops, manufactures and distributes electronic and acoustic products, and holds a controlling interest in GP Industries Marketing Ltd, the organisation's marketing arm.

from which i organised it more and more, how ever i got the point that the article was extended and untoned, due to all this i am unable to concentrate on my studies these days, i will return after several months, Good bye and thank you very much. --Ballisticizer (talk) 12:47, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

Respected sir, once you told me that i am free to edit the article, look at the introduction paragraph, you have left unnecessary html symbols in para and infobox top, i am serious and responsible to edit it, i have already told you that, that document hosted at docstoc.com was copied by me to use it as a source, but when i learn't about copyright policies i removed it at once, please allow me to edit it, you are going to be an administrator now, congratulations, i am going to edit only the introduction para, non neutral tone is nowhere in it, i must had to mention why he was remained notable, it was because of his ideology and principles only, you added he held office continuously from 1951 - 2003 which later got [citation needed] tag by other user, i going to edit it please cooperate. --Alcides86 (talk) 09:24, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Labels such as "pre-eminent" and statements such as "Awarded several times for his constitutional and societal reforms," (without any source for such a claim, or any mention of such awards later in the article) are not neutral. There is also no need to claim in a biography that the subject is "notable because..."; the fact that the article is present and sourced is sufficient to attest to notability. However, that's pretty much irelevant give that the text you are inserting seems to be just about identical to your grandfather's essay, which, as we've established, has not been released under an appropriate license. You are also editing under multiple accounts, in violation of the policy regarding alternate accounts.
You have been given far more leeway over this than most editors ever are (operating more than one account usually leads directly to a block), whilst the conflict of interest, refusal to abide by policy after being made aware of it and, frankly, competence issues are also severely disruptive. Your response above indicates to me that you still do not seem to understand the situation; I will therefore be filing a report over my concerns at WP:ANI, and will notify you once it has been logged. Yunshui  09:55, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia is not favorable ground for people like us who did not know how to write an article, but you must understand my side also, as i am only here to edit this article nothing apart. please guide me or block me if you feel, but please understand my side also article got turned god knows what, initially by an user called Arthur Rubin, and later by my mistakes. Do what is right, i have faith in you, i am removing, some words like notable etc. --Alcides86 (talk) 10:05, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

You seem like a nice guy, and I feel like a heel for doing this to you, but the fact is your actions are disrupting both the individual article and the encyclopedia as a whole. Unless you can give assurances that your behaviour will change, that you will abide by Wikipedia policies and that you will only operate one account, I can't see that your tenure here is going to be a long one. There's a discussion now open at ANI; please make your defence there. Yunshui  10:17, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

You have my word sir, this message of yours is my second good experience in Wikipedia, i here by assure you that from now on wards i will operate only one account, i will never use non neutral tone in the article, do not extend it unnecessarily, i created this article to pay my homage my maternal grandfather that's why i went so possessive and sir when i will grow up and and have some money i will be willing to meet you in real one day that's my promise :) --Alcides86 (talk) 10:38, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Thank you very much sir, have a good day --Alcides86 (talk) 10:50, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi 25¢. I'm flattered that you would continue to request my feedback on this, but do be aware that peer review is not intended to get an article to any particular status, and badgering contributors for more reviews is somewhat futile. I've offered my opinions on the article, and I'm glad to see that you've acted on them; I'd also like to congratulate you on doing so much work to improve it. However, if you want to get it to Good Article status, then I'd suggest you make a request for GA review, rather than trying to iron out every issue at the peer review stage. That way, you can directly address the measures required to pass the Good Article criteria, rather than dealing with everything that anybody thinks needs doing. All the best, Yunshui  07:49, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Reply to request for block check, and other matters

 1. I offer my sincere apologies for not getting back to you in response to your email. I really did intend to, but left it to deal with later, when I had more time, and never came back to it.
 2. I am delighted to see that you managed well enough without my help anyway. I am sure the right decision was reached. Welcome to the gang.
 3. In answer to your question about the block, I see nothing wrong with the technical issues, such as which buttons you pressed. However, I would myself have gone for spamusernameblock rather than usernameblock. The trouble with a username block in a case like this is as follows. The user is told "Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username," and so they request an unblock for a username change. An admin reviewing the unblock request sees that the user has edited in a promotional way, and is reluctant to unblock without an indication that the user will not continue to use Wikipedia for spam. This means that the user has been told that the username is the only issue and they can be unblocked to change the username, and then, when they act on that information, their request is rejected on other grounds, contradicting what they have been told. I think this is unfair to the user, and it is much better to give them an unblock message which tells them right from the start that there are other problems, apart from the username. Many admins would do what you did, so you don't have to accept my view. However, the view I have expressed is shared by many, probably most, of those admins who regularly review unblock requests, and the use of usernameblock in this sort of case is mostly done, I think, by admins who rarely or never look at unblock requests, so they don't see the problems that they create. In fact, personally, I very rarely use a usernameblock. Almost always there are other issues apart from the username, and in the few cases where that really is the only issue, a friendly note asking the user to change their username is usually enough, without a block.
 4. Please feel welcome to contact me again with any other questions. JamesBWatson (talk) 11:12, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. I see the logic of using uw-spamublock; seemed a bit harsh for my first-ever effort but your argument above makes a lot of sense. I shall bear that in mind in future.
No worries about the lack of email response; I did specify a lack of timeframe, and in any case we all have other things to be dealing with. Expect to see me on your talkpage a few times in the coming weeks though ("how do I do this?" "what does this button do?" "I've deleted the Main page, what do I do now?" that sort of thing...). Yunshui  11:40, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
If you manage to delete the Main page then you won't need to ask me much, because you will already know more than I do. At least, unless you go on from being an admin to higher things: [2]. JamesBWatson (talk) 11:50, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi Yunshui, good job getting right into being an admin :). Just a quick note regarding the templates for RFP - you may already be aware but they allow a time frame to be entered, for example s produces " Semi-protected for a period of 24 hours, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. ", that might make it a little easier for you. Again congratulations on the RFA :). Callanecc (talkcontribs) talkback (etc) template appreciated. 14:03, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

I wasn't aware of that, thank you for the heads-up. I'm still learning the ropes at the moment, looking for fairly uncontentious things to practise tool use on - if you see any other areas where I could do better, please point them out! Yunshui  14:05, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
There are usually some pretty uncontentious blocks to be made at WP:AIV and some pretty uncontentious deletions to be made CAT:CSD (just don't touch the the A7s :P) and finished AFDs. Plus the protects you are already doing - but that is where the major backlog is at the moment. The admin dashboard is a useful think to keep an eye on. Ádám Farkas (footballer)

Hello, and thanks for the notification. But it wasn't my G4 this time :-) The page was deleted last night (UK time) as a result of my yesterday's G4, and re-created this morning. On seeing yet another re-creation, I did a proper check on the player and then advised the creator to include evidence of his notability, to avoid it being deleted again. Which they did. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:39, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

Ah, my mistake. I'm still new to the admin tools, and obviously misread the deletion history. Thanks for pointing it out. Yunshui  12:41, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

CVUA

On behalf of the entire CVUA and myself, I would like to congratulate you on your perfect RFA! We have a few ongoing discussions at WT:CVUA that we'd appreciate your input for, and we'd also like you to take another student, if possible. Also, would you be available to grant rollback requests for CVUA students who you think are qualified? Best, Electric Catfish 21:06, 31 July 2012 (UTC).

Thank you. I'd be perfectly happy to take on another student (my current padawan seems to have gone rather quiet); who did you have in mind? As for rollback, I have no problem acting as a CVUA rollback provider, but might I suggest that prospective rollbackers apply at WP:RPE as per usual, and then notify me or Zippy to take a look at their request? That way everything's visible and legit, and we don't run the risk of being seen as an shortcut to rollback rights. Granting permissions without going through RPE isn't very transparent, and could potentially be regarded as an abuse of the process. Yunshui  06:53, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
Hey Yunshui and ECF, just doing some TPS-ing and wanted to drop by with a note -- per some previous discussions - which Electric you were a part of (your "Rollback in a week" comment and others) - the CVUA is not to be used as a shortcut to rollback or any other tool, and students should still apply through the normal channels. Yunshui hit the nail on the head, but I just wanted to clarify. Theopolisme TALK 14:04, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
Great idea! We all could get in trouble if it went that way. I like your suggestion and I'll let Zippy know about it. I see you're working at PERM already. We'll ping you guys when we have our students request rollback and you guys will look into it. Best, Electric Catfish 18:35, 1 August 2012 (UTC).

G'day from Oz, the criterion for a G7 speedy deletion says among other things "substantial edits" by others, not "edits". I don't believe any of the other Users' edits are substantial. Cheers YSSYguy (talk) 12:06, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

User:PaullyMac added around 86 bytes of article text in total, but going through the other edits you're right, they are predominantly categorisation and tagging edits. I've gone ahead and deleted the article at your request, but I'll state here that I'm open to restoring it if one of the other editors asks me to. Yunshui  12:13, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

Teapotbureau

Hi. Why exactly is Teapotbureau blocked? The user's sole contribution is to Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Teapot Bureau which I have just declined. Creating a page about yourself or your organisation in AfC tends to be a rookie error that is generally resolved by a uw-coi on their talk page (example here), not by a block. Have I missed something here? --Ritchie333 (talk) 16:17, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

They also created a somewhat spammier version of the same page in their userspace, which I deleted under WP:G11. Combined with the clear COI implied by the username, I implemented a spam username block - per WP:CORPNAME, they wouldn't be able to edit under that username anyway. I'm happy to lift it if to allow a name change if you want them unblocked, but they'll need to apply to WP:CHANGENAME to avoid getting blocked again. Yunshui  17:20, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
That sounds fine. As long as they've been informed, and they are given clear instructions on what's inappropriate for WP and how to get unblocked, then that's their own problem, frankly. --Ritchie333 (talk) 19:54, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Ramesh Ramaiah copyvio cleanup - some help!

Hi Yunshui, I see you've warned User:Ramesh Ramaiah about the copypaste problems, and have undertaken to clear his article creations of copyvio. I've suggested to my mentee, User:Thine Antique Pen, that he might want to get involved in helping with this, and he's already begun. So he may well complete all that's needed - you may want to briefly check over and see if he's missed anything. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 20:54, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Chik-fil-A redirect

As an involved admin, it's not usually a good idea to close AFD discussions as "delete/redirect" for articles that you had previously stated should not exist. Especially when the discussion had only been opened for 20 minutes. I removed the redirect, but an involved editor reinstated the redirect twice. I plan on taking this to ANI, but thought I'd give you a friendly reminder of an admins responsibility and how involved admins should not be closing discussions, in hopes that you will reverse your decision. --JOJ Hutton 01:51, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
