Anon[edit]

Was that anonymous user posting the email adress in this edit you? - Mgm|(talk) 12:28, August 16, 2005 (UTC)

Yes, that'd be me. Why? Anything wrong with it? --Syzygy 06:57, 17 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

So you're the one! :-)[edit]

Well, I was going to use Syzygy as my Wiki handle, but it was taken already, so I used my given name instead ... Syzygy Darklock is a fellow wizard. --Dennette 20:09, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DAMN! I'm with Dennette! I wanted this handle too...but too bad for me! It's definitely a VERY cool word though. However, I want to ask: is it spelled (and spoken) the same in the German language as it is in English? With all of those "Y's" it seems like it would be impossible to say in a German way...! --172.144.136.36 13:51, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
:-) Do you really want to know...? - The forms used are mostly Syzygie or (more officially) Syzygium. As opposed to the english version, which stresses the first and last syllable, Germans will stress the second syllable, and will split the dipthong in the end. (And, of course, the "g" is guttural, as in "guttural", as opposed to the plosive "g" in "German". ;-) Rendered in english, it will sound something like syds'ygeyeay or syds'ygeyewm. Boy, this looks wrong. I can try to come up with an OGG file for you, if you want... -- Syzygy 08:05, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Voynich Manuscript[edit]

Hello. I am translating the article about the Voynich manuscript for the greek Wikipedia. I thought the name "Voynich" was pronounced with the "ch" as "Mach" but i came across some greek websites that prounounce it as "Voynicz" ("ts"). Could you please help? Which is the correct pronounciation? Thanks in advance - Badseed 15:40, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot, Syzygy! :) - Badseed 18:38, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Gwyn Ashton[edit]

A tag has been placed on Gwyn Ashton requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. File permission problem with File:Gfa basic editor.png[edit]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Gfa basic editor.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MBisanz talk 02:07, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article Paste bomb has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No indication of how this might meet notability guidelines. Lacks citations to significant coverage in reliable sources.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. RadioFan (talk) 13:26, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Voynich manuscript[edit]

Do you have any interest in helping get this back to FA status? Do you have copies of any of the books used as sources? --Andy Walsh (talk) 16:11, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Andy, Sorry for the delay in replying. While I'll be happy to give the article about the VM the occassional glance, right now other things with me have higher priority than investing serious amounts of work into it. As for the books, IIRC I own d'Imperio, Kennedy, and Pelling's books in print. Cheerio, -- Syzygy (talk) 11:46, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Syzygy I have subbmited the problem for mediation to:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_mediation/Time_capsule

please sign the mediation page in the appropriate place (parties to the dispute agree) so that they can begin the next phase. Chem teacher (talk) 21:42, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Formal mediation has been requested[edit]

Formal mediation of the dispute relating to Time capsule has been requested. As an editor concerned in this dispute, you are invited to participate in the mediation. The process of mediation is voluntary and focuses exclusively on the content issues over which there is disagreement. For an explanation of what formal mediation is, see Wikipedia:Mediation Committee/Policy. Please now review the request page and the guide to formal mediation, and then, in the "party agreement" section, indicate whether you agree to participate. Discussion relating to the mediation request is welcome at the case talk page.

Request for mediation accepted[edit]

This message is to inform you that a request for formal mediation of the dispute concerning Time capsule, in which you were listed as a party, has been accepted by the Mediation Committee. Mediation of this dispute will begin within two weeks (once a mediator has been assigned to the case), so please add the case page to your watchlist.

The entirety of the above two pages (the MedCom policy and the guide to formal mediation) are also important reading for editors who are new to formal mediation. If you have any questions, please post them onto the case talk page, or contact the MedCom mailing list.

Dear Chem teacher: I just want to let you know that I've opened the mediation discussion at Wikipedia_talk:Requests for mediation/Time capsule with some initial analysis of the Mediation Cabal case page, and an opening question I'd like to put to you both. Many thanks, --NicholasTurnbull | (talk) 17:54, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Syzygy and Chem teacher: As this is a formal mediation, I need you to complete one final piece of paperwork. Can you please read the formal closure on the mediation and, if you agree with it, sign it? Once the closure is signed, the case will be formally closed. Here's a direct link:
