Using the [edit] link[edit]

When you react to the postings in a section of a talk page or Reference desk page – for example to add a "thank you" note – the best way to do that is to click the [edit] link to the far right of the section title, and add your contribution to the end of the edit window. This way, the section will keep the thread together. See also Help:Section#Section editing, Wikipedia:Talk page#Formatting and Help:Edit summary.  --Lambiam 06:36, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Latin[edit]

Hi Omidinist, if you ever need to look up a Latin word, you could use William Whitaker's Words program, which will tell you all the parts of speech and give you a definition. It won't replace the explanations on the Reference Desk, but it might save you some time! Adam Bishop (talk) 08:37, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

context for male sonantes?[edit]

I added an extension to your query on the Language reference desk. A quick search on Google indicates this is a figurative expression related to the Catholic Church in the Middle Ages, perhaps related to allegations of heresy?... so knowing the context in which you encountered the Latin expression would help. -- Thanks, Deborahjay (talk) 06:54, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Name of school in Reims, France, 1945[edit]

Thank you, Omidinist, for helping on this recent Language reference desk query. Based on your input and others', I've decided not to translate the name but will settle for a description of the school. -- with appreciation, Deborahjay (talk) 11:16, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Samuel Segev[edit]

Thanks for contacting me by e-mail, O; I'm always glad to help when I have access and time. I feel somewhat ill-equipped to answer your pronunciation query with this curious name having an English-language spelling for what's more likely to be the Hebrew "Shmuel." It's also occurred to me that the pronunciation might be somewhat different if Mr. Segev writes in the Haredi community that favors the Yiddish language and the so-called "Ashkenazic" pronunciation of Hebrew. If you'd fill me in as to where you've seen him published, I could perhaps provide further enlightenment. -- Cheers, Deborahjay (talk) 18:53, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you re Ref Desk question[edit]

Hi Omidinist, I just wanted to thank you for your answer to my Ref Desk question back on Nov 25 about Sirat al-Mustaqim. I appreciate the reference and will put it in the Sirat al-Mustaqim article as soon as I can. Best, WikiJedits (talk) 00:51, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! I found an article from the Arab Times http://www.arabtimes.com/portal/news_display.cfm?Action=&Preview=No&nid=16171&a=1 and Google Translate stated that Jordanian newspapers did not publish info on the event. This is what is being said in Arabic, right? Also it seems that Alidam's middle name is Hussein... WhisperToMe (talk) 20:24, 13 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, both are correct. Alidam's full name is أمجد حسین علي دام

Thanks again! This shows why it's important to pay attention to media in other languages: I don't think the Houston Chronicle (the main newspaper of record) said anything about the media blackout in Jordan, but this source in Arabic did! WhisperToMe (talk) 11:28, 14 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

'Bold text'== People's Liberation Army Museum ==

Hi! In this picture, what is the Arabic for "People's Liberation Army Museum"?

Also, I might want to make annotations in the pic on the Commons, so please post the remaining text separately.

Thanks! WhisperToMe (talk) 23:12, 11 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If/when you have time I also found LFGIP's name in Arabic http://lfigp.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/LFIGP-Ruwayyah_382x250_acf_cropped_382x250_acf_cropped_382x250_acf_cropped_382x250_acf_cropped.jpg but I hope the name isn't too small to use WhisperToMe (talk) 01:07, 17 November 2018 (UTC) Its Arabic is: جیش التحریر الشعبی[reply]

Transcription of the introduction of the Ivan Panovic paper on the Egyptian Arabic Wikipedia[edit]

Hi again! At https://www.academia.edu/363979/The_Beginnings_of_Wikipedia_Masry there is an introduction to the Ivan Panovic essay that is seen on page 8. Would it be okay if I had a transcription of the Arabic? Thanks! WhisperToMe (talk) 20:48, 30 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. It takes a lot of time. Omidinist (talk) 04:34, 1 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If it takes too long, then it's not a big deal if I don't get it. Anyway, happy editing! WhisperToMe (talk) 06:10, 1 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ottoman Turkish[edit]

Are you willing to transcribe Ottoman Turkish? I found some old postcards and calendars from the late Ottoman period. There are many of them, so if you like I can give you just a few at a time. If/when you complete a set, I can give you another. You are welcome to do it at your own pace.

WhisperToMe (talk) 17:55, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

No. I'm not adept at that. Sorry. Omidinist (talk) 01:49, 1 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It's ok! Anyway, happy editing! WhisperToMe (talk) 14:09, 1 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

File:LandmineActionWS.jpg[edit]

Hi again! Are you interested in transcribing the Arabic in File:LandmineActionWS.jpg? I'm interested in the main text in the center as well as the text in the sides.

If you're OK with another, there's also File:Hospital Tifariti.jpg which is only a single name, though there is a sign below if you want to transcribe that too.

Thanks, WhisperToMe (talk) 16:32, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. They take too much of my time. I just transcribe the name of the hospital: mustashfā nabārat. Omidinist (talk) 13:40, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That's fine! I used an Arabic keyboard http://www.arabic-keyboard.org/ to match the transcription and added it to the hospital file WhisperToMe (talk) 07:45, 14 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
