Sister projects & interwiki linking

If you want to write a dictionary definition, recipe or quotation archive, consider using one of Wikipedia's sister projects, such as Wiktionary or Wikiquote. These are more specialised, as they focus on a particular type of page. Links can be made to these pages by adding the project name as a namespace ("Wikiquote:", "Wikibooks:", "Wiktionary:"), or using the shortcuts ("Q:", "B:", and "Wikt:", respectively). Wikipedia is written by volunteer editors and hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation, a non-profit organization that also hosts a range of other volunteer projects:

The Order of the Superior Scribe of Wikipedia
For all the time and effort you have put in — across thousands of edits — to markedly improve numerous articles related to Christianity all these years. The magnitude of the positive impact you have had with regard to Wikipedia's coverage of academic topics related to Christianity is unprecedented; I cannot think of any other editor who has worked so rigorously and improved those topics to the extent that you have. You are still the one I will reach out to when I have a problem, but you have taught me a lot, and this article was just too much to ask someone else to do for me. I would have enjoyed banging my head against a wall more, but hey, I followed your example and got it done. I put it up for peer review and others suggested adding back a theology section which I am beginning work on today. Thank you again. You are a great blessing. Question from SandhuuSingh (03:54, 7 April 2024)[edit]

Hi, one question How do you create something? --SandhuuSingh (talk) 03:54, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mean how do you create your first article or do you mean how do you write anything anywhere? To write something, first you must have something worth writing, and that begins with good research in secondary sources. Click on edit source at the top of whatever you are editing, write and cite your sources, then press publish. Before writing anything though I suggest reading: Contributing is easy: see how to edit a page. For a quick summary on participating, see contributing to Wikipedia, and for a friendly tutorial, see our introduction. For a listing of introductions and tutorials by topic, see getting started. The Simplified Manual of Style and Cheatsheet can remind you of basic wiki markup.
Be bold in improving articles! When adding facts, please provide references so others may verify them. If you are affiliated with the article subject, please see our conflict of interest guideline. Jenhawk777 (talk) 04:59, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from MatteoSilver (09:24, 11 April 2024)[edit]

Hello, I’m new to editing. Is it okay to be done from a phone or tablet? I don’t typically use a computer. --MatteoSilver (talk) 09:24, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@MatteoSilver Hello and welcome to Wikipedia! Yes, it's ok, though depending on how you do it, things may look different from when you work with a laptop. User:Cullen328/Smartphone editing may have something you find useful. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 18:32, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello[edit]

You may or may not find this discussion interesting: Wikipedia:Fringe_theories/Noticeboard#Methuselah it's not really in the right place and will probably not "decide" anything by itself, but it's a recurring topic for some articles you've heard of. Question from Lim Ban Siew (15:11, 18 April 2024)[edit]

how can i start to personal information ? --Lim Ban Siew (talk) 15:11, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not do that on Wikipedia. This is not a social platform, and there are those who will abuse and misuse that information. This is an encyclopedia published by those who do research and write what amounts to Master's level research papers. Protect your work and yourself by keeping all personal information personal. Question from Mitsoukorussie (19:22, 22 April 2024)[edit]

Hi, I believe I provided valid reasons for editing the Stewart Shining article, but another editor removed my edits without verifying why they were edited in the first place. I believe this was an aggressive move by him. Today, I entered entries under the "talk" section of "Stewart Shining," as well as the "Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara," before adding any changes. Am I going about this correct way? Can I ask another editor to help me verify my edits and make the changes? --Mitsoukorussie (talk) 19:22, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You are doing exactly right. The list of problems on the Talk page suggests this article should be nominated for deletion. Go here Wikipedia:Articles for deletion and follow the instructions. The article can be recreated in the future if it becomes appropriate to do so. Jenhawk777 (talk) 14:23, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Tet-Math2 on User:Tet-Math2/sandbox (22:29, 24 April 2024)[edit]

I'm trying to get this published. It has equations in it that I could not find anywhere when I needed them. Perhaps others are in the boat I just escaped from.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Tet-Math2/sandbox --Tet-Math2 (talk) 22:29, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Well that's easy to explain. Read this entire page: Wikipedia:Verifiability especially this Wikipedia:Verifiability#Original research because what you have is 100% original research without a single source cited. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that only publishes verifiable material from secondary sources - research papers. All original research will be deleted. If you don't delete it, I will. Question from Tet-Math2 on User:Tet-Math2/sandbox (12:01, 25 April 2024)[edit]

Hello Jenhawk777 I'm User:Tet-Math2/sandbox There's NO submit for review option at the bottom of my sandbox. I'm asking you to review my efforts & hopefully inject them into Wikipedia. It's not much good if they just stay in my sandbox !!! I'm dying to know if these are new equations never seen before. Gasp Gasp Gasp --Tet-Math2 (talk) 12:01, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have already answered this. I looked at it before answering above. You must abide by Wikipedia policies. Wikipedia does not publish original work. There is not a single secondary source cited for any of this other than Wikipedia itself. If you publish this, it will be deleted. Jenhawk777 (talk) 15:07, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Tet-Math2, Jenhawk is correct, what you have at User:Tet-Math2/sandbox isn't anything close to what a WP-article should be, among other things WP:NOTMANUAL. Something like what you are doing might fit at Wikiversity, but I've never edited there, so I'm not sure, you'll have to check it out yourself. Wikipedia:WikiProject Mathematics may be of interest to you. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 05:57, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Stickfigurez000 (15:58, 27 April 2024)[edit]

Hello! I've never tried or thought about editting a wikipedia article but I was like, why not try it out and see how it works? I saw that under other names for the USA they don't have "the States" which all Europeans, people in the UK, and especially Canadians, exclusively call the US. I just thought, "wouldn't it be fun to add 'the States' since most Americans don't know that we never say the US, or USA and never "America!" haha So ya, that's what brought me here :) --Stickfigurez000 (talk) 15:58, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Why not indeed? Just be sure to follow the rules. There's a lot to learn about how to properly edit on WP, so as not to get your work deleted.
Add "the States" to what exactly? My dad was military and I lived "overseas" for several years and we always referred to "home" as "the states". As far as I know, that's been the practice going back to the world wars. I guess locals picked it up. Since the military is such a small percentage of the population, you are probably right about many not knowing that. But I guess I don't quite get why or where that would be an issue.Jenhawk777 (talk) 16:09, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I was ready to punch him too ... Jenhawk777 (talk) 18:09, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The question could be about the lead of United States. I found this 2020 discussion: Talk:United_States/Archive_97#U.S._is_sometimes_referred_to_as_"the_States". "The states" don't seem to be in the article at all atm, but can be found at Names of the United States. Now, have another song: Kicking Ass' song. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 18:13, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Do you know every article in the entire encyclopedia? You astound me. Jenhawk777 (talk) 18:20, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Meh (but thanks). Even I know "The States", and I know Wikipedians, so I figured it probably had been discussed 1 or 12 times before. Now, on behalf of the backup singer in the second song (puncher in the first), I want it to be known that he writes books:Stephen_Fry_bibliography_and_filmography#Books. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 18:28, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes he does. I am not a big fan of his, though it is likely a bias on my part. I'm a big fan of you. Jenhawk777 (talk) 18:37, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Likewise! And it's good to know I have fans, I've been in disputes lately, among other things about The Merchant of Venice if you can believe it. Well of course you can, you also know Wikipedians. Well, the other guy is on a 24h block, we'll see what happens. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 18:50, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Aaaahhh... thank you. If you need me, tell me, I'll be there. Jenhawk777 (talk) 18:56, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And that went from 24h block to indef with talkpage access revoked. Unless there's socking later, that one can probably be put in the files. So I'm off to my next adventure at [1]. Don't involve yourself, but you might like to watch. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:45, 28 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello...How do I create my own page --ArelwarendeYy (talk) 11:40, 28 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Post something - not too personal - something about your interests, why you're on WP, whatever you like that isn't info someone could use to find you and harass you, on your user page - your name page. See that your name is in red? When you post something on that page, it will turn blue. Jenhawk777 (talk) 17:20, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Paulinefowler666 (16:59, 3 May 2024)[edit]

Hi! I have noticed some Wikipedia pages have lists of celebrities in a table, for example this article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Simpsons_guest_stars_(seasons_1%E2%80%9320)

And some celebrities names will have † next to them to symbolise that the celebrity is dead. For example the table of housemates here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celebrity_Big_Brother_(British_TV_series)_series_20 I was wondering if this is appropriate to put on any sort of article (like the one above) or is this not necessary? I find the idea very helpful, but if it's not needed on every sort of table including celebrities I understand. --Paulinefowler666 (talk) 16:59, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

For lists try this: [3]. For the rest follow this: [4]. Jenhawk777 (talk) 17:15, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That doesn't mention anything about adding † to lists, I was just wondering if it's okay on any list containing deceased celebrities, to signal that they have since passed away, especially on reality shows etc.
Like on the Big Brother one I linked, there is a † next to those who passed away in the table. But on the Simpsons one, there isn't any next to celebrities that passed from that table. I was wondering if it would be acceptable to add the † to those who passed on any sort of table. It wouldn't make sense to be okay on one form of article but not another. Sorry if this doesn't make a lot of sense, but I like the clarification! Paulinefowler666 (talk) 13:45, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
