Dead footballers/football players

Generally speaking,a "football player" plays gridiron football and a "footballer" plays association football, though someone who plays and manages association football is called a "football player and manager". Australians may play either Australian rules football or association football and a link to the former sport is used if that's what they played. For Canadians and even USAmericans I favor the first-sentence distinction as sufficient but others call association football "soccer" just for them even though it's not used for other countries' people playing the same sport. Cricketer versus cricket player

For your information, cricket is NOT an American game, and its participants are called cricketers (outside North America), e.g. refer to the August 21 entry for Lawrence Reade, and not cricket players. For that reason, your reversion of my earlier edit was unwarranted and not helpful (August 22 entry for Peter Chingoka). Your football analogies are also not relevant here. Editrite! You changed my edit of Sergei Slonimsky from "film scorer" back to "soundtrack composer". Your comment was "Film scorer? What is it, a cinematographic footballer?" That's truly funny. No, what a film scorer does is explained in detail in Wikipedia's article on film scoring (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_score). You see, "score" has different meanings. One is points in a sporting event (like football) and another is the music of a film (aka the film's score). I don't believe anyone composes a soundtrack. The "death announced" issue at Deaths in 2023

What I have noticed for a very long time is that some editors spot something salient to the death date on Facebook, Twitter or various other low-grade sources, and introduce their findings into the page by removing the "death announced" tag. They also deem it appropriate to include as little as possible by way of explanation in the edit summary, if anything at all. There seems to be an element of OCD at play, in that the editors invariably appear to need a closure of that particular issue as soon as is possible. Personally I prefer to wait - a properly-sourced announcement is as good as a cast-iron dated one, in my mind. I do understand your frustration, but would think that any accusation of vandalism would not hold up if taken to extreme, as the misguided edits are still edits in good faith. "That's a reliable Italian source. Stop vandalizing." This is not source that I am familiar with. If there was Repubblica link, it would be other case. And while repubblica googles, the problem is that there are as of now no reliable english sources at all, or in other languages. And considering headlines with him listed as Star wars actor, which technically he isn't, and he is more famous for other roles, say Divergent or G.I.Joe, I had doubts about other sources. Hi. Why did you revert my edit for Silvio Berlusconi in Deaths in 2023? No, just to say "no" is not an explanation As it stands now, you get the impression that he was prime minister for the entire time between 1994-2013. Incorrect edit

This edit is wrong. The source doesn't say anywhere Serge Laprade had prostate cancer let alone that he died from it. The source says his husband Daniel Arsenault had prostate cancer and ironically healed from it the same day that Laprade died from a returning cancer whose type wasn't specified.76.64.176.181 (talk) 03:05, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
