Simeon Jocelyn

I noticed you recently expanded Simeon Jocelyn, thanks. Thought I'd point out, if you didn't know, there was another pair of notable New England abolitionists from the Joslyn family: Hezekiah Joslyn and his daughter, Matilda Joslyn Gage. I don't have hard evidence of this, but chances are they were related, as I believe many of the New England Joslyns go back to Guilford, Connecticut roots. ☆ Bri (talk) 22:26, 18 April 2020 (UTC)

Recent Category

Hi there, I noticed that you created Category:African-Americans obtaining higher education before 1865. I think it violates Wikipedia:ARBITRARYCAT and WP:NONDEF. I wanted to bring this to you before starting the nomination process. What do you think?--User:Namiba 12:31, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

The year 1865 is not arbitrary; it is the year of the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, under which slavery was prohibited, marking a fundamental change in the role of African-Americans in the country.
The higher education is a defining characteristic mentioned pretty universally by the sources. An African American goung to college was pretty unusual in that period. See the article in note 2 of George Boyer Vashon.
