I think you should remove candidates who have not qualified for any debate at all from the 2020 Democratic presidential primary debates page, as they are not really "major" since even most politically engaged people have never heard of them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.96.191.88 (talk) 15:05, 4 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

About the Polling Sections of 2020 Iowa Caucuses, 2020 New Hampshire Primary, 2020 Nevada Caucuses, and 2020 South Carolina Primary This candidate is irrelevant in polling; did not previously mention Kirsten Gillibrand, John Hickenlooper, Bill de Blasio, Tim Ryan, etc. withdrawals! I don't think we should mention this candidate without including the others; I don't think we should clutter the page with every candidate that withdraws.

Nasserist Party[edit]

Hi David, I was looking at your RM at Talk:Nasserist Party (Egypt) and couldn't quite understand what you wanted. Are the Arab Democratic Nasserist Party and the Nasserist Party different parties? If not, it's fine to have both Nasserist Party and Nasserist Party (Egypt) as redirects to Arab Democratic Nasserist Party. Thanks, BDD (talk) 16:56, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I may have read too quickly. It sounds like you're saying there is a new Nasserist Party that's different from the ADNP, so it shouldn't redirect there. Is that right? --BDD (talk) 16:58, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The new Nasserist Party page that I started is no longer available, so I don't really know what to do. The new party wasn't competing for seats [each party can join whatever electoral alliance they want for the upcoming election], so I think someone removed the page I created and reverted the redirect from the disambiguation page to to the old page for the ADNP. David O. Johnson (talk) 18:31, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I see what happened. Your article shouldn't've been made into a redirect without discussion. For now, I think your article should be separate; eventually, we may want to merge the ADNP into it, depending on what happens in the future, and we will want to move it to Nasserist Party. I think that's what you originally wanted. --BDD (talk) 19:52, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that is correct. Thank you. I will go ahead and recreate the Nasserist Party page under Nasserist Party (Egypt) later on. I suppose there should be a way to differentiate the two parties with similar names. Thanks again. David O. Johnson (talk) 22:46, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Disregard my last comment. I can see you restored the article I created. Thank you. David O. Johnson (talk) 23:09, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, introducing inappropriate pages, such as Islamist Jihadi Party, is not in accordance with our policies. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. The page has been nominated for deletion, in accordance with Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think that your page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Egaqu (talk) 19:47, 25 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

The article Islamist Jihadi Party has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done because the article, which appeared to be about a real person, individual animal, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the notability of the subject may be deleted at any time. If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources.

Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and for specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for musicians, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. JohnCD (talk) 10:28, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • I agree it's not a hoax, but a single reference to someone as the founder of a party is not enough to show importance or significance. By all means re-create if you can find more, remembering that while a "credible assertion of significance or importance" is enough to avoid speedy deletion, if an article is to be kept it will need to pass the WP:GNG. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 10:32, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Abu Iyadh al-Tunisi requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Eduemoni↑talk↓ 05:33, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Page moves[edit]

Hello David. Well done for spotting that the next Lebanese general election has had its date changed, but when you move articles like that, can you make sure to update the templates on it too? You neglected to update {{Lebanese elections}}, which still showed the date as 2013. Usually the Politics of... templates have future elections on too, but the Lebanese one seems to be an exception. Cheers, Number 57 15:27, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ghuraba Al-Sham[edit]

Hi, it seems that Lothar von Richthofen is engaging again in an edit war at the Ghuraba Al-Sham article, removing any editions pointing to the dubiousness of his claim of former alliances of that group with the Syrian intelligence while simultaneously claim that the group is no longer allied with Al-Nusra Front. I had added again your last edit and the dubious tags, but I dont know how much they will stay like that. Im thinking also to add a NPOV tag if things continue like that. What do you think about this and what can we do? Regards,--HCPUNXKID (talk) 16:25, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you actually read the sources properly, it isn't "dubious" at all. See the article's talkpage for a lesson in reading comprehension. ~~ Lothar von Richthofen (talk) 19:30, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, and then you talk about "aggressive behaviour", what an hypocrite...--HCPUNXKID (talk) 15:02, 4 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I overhauled the article, adding sources where needed. Ghuraba al-Sham's former alliance with the Al Nusra Front is well-documented, as are links with Syrian intelligence. David O. Johnson (talk) 20:20, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Logo of Egyptian Patriotic Movement.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Logo of Egyptian Patriotic Movement.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 05:22, 23 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

TemplateData is here[edit]

Hey David O. Johnson

I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).

So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.

What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.

The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.

Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 22:25, 28 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Signature[edit]

In Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Next Egyptian presidential election, you've been signing your name on a new line instead of inline, which can make things hard to read sometimes. I've fixed this for you.

Shia militants in the Syrian war[edit]

Yes, of course Shia militants are involved, like many other religious majorities and minorities, including Sunni, Christian, Alawite and Druz militants, are included in the militias loyal to the legitimate Syrian government. Hence -in my opinion- no need to mention the Shia militants group in the title of the column.--Zyzzzzzy (talk) 07:38, 16 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi David. Thanks for adding a date to the election, but you recreated the article where the redirect was rather than moving the existing article. Why remove archival information from references?[edit]

hi David, I fail to understand why you have systematically been removing archival information from references in at least these two edits that you made:

How can removal of archival information possibly improve the quality of an article? This is not just a luxury of "extra info". The verifiability of an online encylopedia depends mainly on external web pages. The history of the world wide web shows that sources can be volatile. Web pages that are interesting and useful and appear stable can and do disappear. Just because a source disappears does not imply that we should remove the corresponding information from the Wikipedia. Given that archival websites exist, archiving these makes our articles more verifiable in the long term. This still requires the reader to trust the archiving organisation, but that's easier than searching through a long edit history and then trusting a random Wikipedian's memory ("I remember I read the info justifying that sentence ten years ago at the time I edited, but I'm afraid I didn't store a snapshot"). Please see Web archiving for a general discussion and WebCite or List of Web archiving initiatives for some examples. Even mainstream newspaper websites are not necessarily stable in the long term. A newspaper might decide to require subscriptions for articles older than X years. Or the newspaper might close down in an economic crisis with nobody from the ex-newspaper making the effort (legal + hardware + software) to create a long-term web archive.

Unless you have a good reason from removing the archival information, I would suggest that you restore the deleted material.

(On a less fundamental point, I also fail to understand why you have removed reference labels from references that in a given version of an article are only cited once. If a reference is useful once, chances are that someone editing later may wish to cite the same reference for another relevant piece of information. The edit label can usually be guessed by clicking on the existing link to the reference - if the label already exists. Removing an existing label creates extra work for the later edit. The extra number of bytes is negligible in terms of download time compared to the main text. Conciseness is needed in the rendered text, not the source text. In any case, the archival information is a much more fundamental issue.)

Boud (talk) 01:16, 22 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, regarding the archival information; I personally thought that it wasn't needed, though I currently understand the reasoning for keeping them intact. Regarding the reference names, you make a valid point. I will keep this in mind as I continue to edit articles. Thank you, David O. Johnson (talk) 01:30, 22 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Ghuraba al-Sham[edit]

As I said before, the claim about Ghuraba al-Sham being allied with Syrian intel is just that, allegations (even the sources given talk about that, accusations, suggestions, allegations and claims, not facts). Some people also claim that the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant is allied or even funded by the Syrian goverment, but we dont put the Syrian gov. as an ISIS ally in its infobox (logically). So, I cannot accept adding Syrian intelligence to the infobox as an ally, nor with the (formerly) clarification, nor with the (allegedly) clarification. Why? Because following that logic we should add, for example, the FSA (formerly) to the ISIS allies section of its infobox, as they were allies until a few months ago, and they even are still allies against Kurdish forces in Hasakah province. A clear double standard example. I agree that allegations could have space in the articles content, but not in the infobox, as it is misleading. Can you please do the same for the revolution page? Yes, i have already made similar requests in the past, but i don't know how to explain it this time. And wasn't this the original title? Please explain to me if it is possible for Panam2014 to simply reach a similar conclusion that this new title is better without even bothering to discuss it. Not trying to be childish here, but i don't know why am i the one supposed to make a request while Panam2014 should have done this in the first place. Thoughts? Fitzcarmalan (talk) 22:00, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'll go ahead and make the request; I can't say what Panam2014's motivations are, so I do not know why he didn't discuss these moves beforehand. David O. Johnson (talk) 22:05, 4 February 2014 (UTC) The request is now added. David O. Johnson (talk) 22:07, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article Ahar al-Jazeera has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. A tag has been placed on Ahar al-Jazeera requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Mr. Guye (talk) 23:00, 20 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, David O. Johnson. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Euphrates Islamic Liberation Front, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

The article that says the NSB joined the Al-Tawhid Brigade is dated March 5. This article, however, is dated March 18 and indicates that although many NSB troops joined Tawhid, there is still a tiny but independent NSB. Anyway, great work! 71.184.147.211 (talk) 03:02, 26 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. What I meant by saying we didn't need to list Nahrwan Al-Sham in the main list is that it includes several of the groups that are listed above it. Other operational alliances such as the Euphrates Volcano (as opposed to more close-knit alliances like Islamic Front which can be considered a group in itself) are not listed in that section. 130.64.98.69 (talk) 02:45, 19 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear David O.Johnson, I appreciated your edits in above article, but dont exaggerate. Every school pupil when paying attention in history lessons knows that Khorasan is the name of that ancient empire. There is no reference needed. Monart (talk) 03:03, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Affiliated with the FSA?[edit]

I highly doubt the Army of Mujahedeen, the Authenticity and Development Front, and Ansar al-Sham consider themselves affiliated with the FSA. The two articles cited for listing them as such (here and here) may be generalizing the FSA as any factions that aren't jihadist. It would be especially odd if Ansar al-Sham suddenly joined the FSA, considering it's already part of the Islamic Front. Anyway, I think more sources would be needed before listing these three factions as part of the FSA umbrella. 130.64.98.86 (talk) 22:50, 30 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent editing history at Khorasan (Islamist group) shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

edits[edit]

Hi, I saw you had reverted some of my edits on jihadist and thought to touch base with you on this to explain and hear your thoughts. I basically see it as a value laden label. To this end I am currently developing a Draft:List of organizations self-described as mujahideen or by jihad. I have similarly done work on Category:Designated terrorist organizations associated with Islam so as not merely to label various Islamist incidents as Islamic terrorism. I have similarly developed Category:Islamist insurgent groups to cover organizations that are not designated as terrorist. I think that it is fine to quote other organisations as declaring a group to be jihadist (a western relative neologism) or terrorist but I have qualms about doing this in Wikipedia's voice at least extensively. Groups like al-Jazeera have also taken to using the phases "self-declared jihadist" and "self-proclaimed jihadist". The groups are not contested to be Islamist be may be contested to be jihadist. There certainly is little connection to jihad in many of the cases. Its most frequently a case of quran based believer against quran based believer. GregKaye 14:23, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the reference to terrorism and added references to Islamism. I removed the reference to terrorism on the valid basis of WP:TERRORISM but do not insist on its removal. I added reference to Islamism on the view that the group are applying pressure to promote an interpretation of Islam politically. As I see it there has been a POV push with regard to the use of jihadist based terminologies in Wikipedia which has included the frequent placement of the "Jihadist organization" category at the top of category lists. I know that I have done so on other occasion but my edit made no removal of jihadist reference. GregKaye 10:36, 4 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Disruptive unnecessary edits.[edit]

If you continue to not only remove factual information from the article Ansar Bait al-Maqdis, but also continue down your "no flag/decorations crusade" on Al-Nusra Front and Khorasan (Islamist group), I'll be following this up with an ANI on your bizarre behavior. You cannot unilaterally decide to remove these icons from the info-box, by interpreting WP policy (which is contentious at best) in your own manner. You're the only user I have ever come across to do this, namely remove icons of any sort from an info-box. StanMan87 (talk) 04:33, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent editing history at Charlie Hebdo shooting shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you get reverted. how to develop/restore a Transhumanist Party article[edit]

(Sorry if this may not be relevant for you, but i am reaching out to several other editors and think you might possibly be interested.) Hey, i see that you contributed some at the old article, and recently some others have tried to restore the article on the Transhumanist Party that was effectively deleted by "redirect" outcome of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Transhumanist Party. I see that in the AFD discussion i participated a lot, and argued for redirect at the time. But actually I am interest personally in Transhumanism, and I do want to support development of a valid article on the Transhumanist Party, as long as there are more sources available now and it can be developed to meet Wikipedia standards for an article. But, the way forward is for editors to develop a draft, and that can be done at Draft:Transhumanist_Party and discussed at Draft talk:Transhumanist_Party. Then when it is improved, submit it (by inserting {{submit}} at the top of the page) for approval to move to mainspace. (Or, technically another option is to dispute the AFD decision by appealing at wp:DRN, but takes time and that is highly unlikely to succeed, and I don't recommend it.) If an editor just restores the article, that is out of regular process, and if it is repeated enough, the editor can get slammed...possibly blocked or banned from Wikipedia. Feel free to develop at Draft:Transhumanist_Party, anyhow. cheers, sincerely, --doncram 19:49, 8 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Mahlab Cabinet[edit]

The government Mahlab III does not exist. It is always the government Mahlab II but was overhauled. The sources speak of reshuffle. The Prime Minister did unsworn again, only the new ministers were sworn in. Please don't undo my Trump 2016 edit.[edit]

Trump did state in his announcement that he would not participate in bicycle races. I will give you a reasonable time to respond. Then, I will add the factual information again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.112.166.96 (talk) 16:48, 16 June 2015 (UTC) Source: [1][reply]

References

Hello, thanks for adding the info to wikipedia, it looks like you were trying to improve things, that's appreciated. I do understand why David removed what you added though... bicycle races seems to have nothing to do with the presidential races! But appearances can be deceiving, and in this case bicycle races turn out to be worth mentioning. Your link to the youtube video is presumably proof (though I haven't watched all 45 minutes myself) that Trump indeed mentioned bicycle races in his announcement. That might be something worth putting into the article, per WP:ABOUTSELF, even though it was Trump himself that was making the comment in the youtube video.
Now usually, youtube isn't a very reliable source in WP:SOURCES terms that wikipedia normally relies on, but in this case, that is a link to the official youtube channel of a television station, WSVN-TV channel 7 in Miami, who decided to publish the entire 47-minute announcement speech. This teevee-station-enhanced-credibility might arguably make the mention of bicycle races, once we can specifically locate it inside the WSVN-youtube-source, satisfy WP:NOTEWORTHY and be worth putting in the article... albeit as a primary source, it should be used with care. One technical-difficulty problem though, the link you gave is specifically to 49m15s into the video, but the speech is only 47m51s long right now on youtube; maybe the TV station cut down the footage, or maybe the 49m15s thing was just a goof. To use the WSVN source, we would need a more exact point in the primary-source-speech when Trump mentioned the bicycle races.
Even better, another source that would be even more helpful to demonstrating WP:NOTEWORTHY, would be some kind of secondary-source, which was reviewing/summarizing the Trump announcement speech, and mentioned the bicycle-thing as part of the review/summary. Doing a bit of googling via yahoo.com powered by bing.com, I found this secondary source, which does exactly that.[5] So, it looks like the bicycle-race quote was not merely *found* in the 47-minute-video somewheres, it was (according to wiki-reliable-source Politico) one of the top three quotes from the whole announcement-speech. That definitely satisfies WP:NOTEWORTHY in my mind, and so I think the bicycle-racing thing can definitely be mentioned in the article on the Trump campaign. However, I strongly suggest we write something which explains the context of the bicycle-race quotation, like this maybe.
"During his announcement speech, Trump said he would keep Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, and criticized John Kerry for the current status of negotiations with Iran; Trump also criticized Kerry's judgement outside the political realm, in particular breaking[when?] his leg (at age 72) in a bicycle race, after which Trump made a firm campaign promise never to race bicycles himself.[6]" That gives the 'flavor' of the Trump candidacy, plus also summarizes why Politico found the bicycle-quote noteworthy, methinks. It would be better if it could be trimmed down ('as simple as possible but no simpler'), and properly wikilinked to the articles about the Iran negotiations, plus needs a source (or wikilink) which talks about when/how/where Kerry broke his leg. 75.108.94.227 (talk) 19:21, 3 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

article on republican debates , ref-syntax-question[edit]

Hi David, your work on ref-cleanup is much appreciated. You removed[7] the |quote= portion from one of the named-refs, because it was used (by name-referent) in more than one place, i.e. the same cite was used to back about five sentences, only three of which were specifically related to the |quote= portion. Is there some way to properly do what I was trying to do? I understand I could have made

  • <ref name=A>{{cite web |url=xyz.com |quote=blah blah}}</ref>

and then for the other sentences unrelated to the quoted portion made another

  • <ref name=B>{{cite web |url=xyz.com |quote=blah blah}}</ref>

but that would have resulted in duplicate-URL-refs at the bottom, right? Which as I understand it is also frowned upon. Is there some wiki-syntax I'm unaware of, that allows a URL to be used five times, but a quotation-attached-to-that-URL to only be used for three of those five? Thanks. 75.108.94.227 (talk) 18:36, 3 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know.David O. Johnson (talk) 00:24, 4 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that makes two of us.  :-)     In the meantime, it looks like Metropolitan90 has corrected the specific quotation-related-problem for this article in another fashion entirely, by moving the not-present-reasons to an explanatory paragraph with parenthesized reasons, rather than leaving the specific reasons purely in ref-quotations. If I manage to find an answer to the wiki-syntax question I'll try and remember to let you know. 75.108.94.227 (talk) 12:48, 4 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

March Madness 2017[edit]

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

Grand Theft Auto III soundtrack[edit]

Hello David, thanks for expressing your concern over the Grand Theft Auto III soundtrack page. Unfortunately, the page is of little to no encyclopedic value as it goes straigh against our WP:GAMECRUFT and related policies. See also a related AfD discussion for GTAV's radio stations page. Note that important content can, in a smaller fashion, be included in the main article, yet that does not justify keeping the cruft article itself. April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive[edit]

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
  • updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nominations open[edit]

Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are now open. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting doesn't commence until 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the coord team. Cheers, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:53, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion discussion about Alliance to Support Islam[edit]

Hello, David O. Johnson,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Alliance to Support Islam should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alliance to Support Islam .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks,

Nomination of New Independent Party for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article New Independent Party is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/New Independent Party until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Gareth Griffith-Jones (contribs) (talk) 11:25, 18 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The Jewish Home article[edit]

The problem is the citations are still there from when the description was "right-wing to far-right wing", the most common reference to the political position of the Jewish Home is typically just right-wing (as opposed to a far-right party like Otzma Yehudit which is almost always called far-right and or Kahanist), but the citations used in the infobox are contradictory to both what the infobox itself lists, as well as common descriptions of the parties position. ShimonChai (talk) 08:10, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Minor parties[edit]

Hi David. I don't think you should keep creating articles in very minor parties that are unlikely to pass the electoral threshold. We already have far too many of these articles on parties that contested an election once then disappeared. If they're founded by a notable politician, simply link any mention of the party's name to them instead. Cheers, Number 57 12:31, 23 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads-up. David O. Johnson (talk) 17:48, 23 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, regarding Tzomet (2019 political party) - Tzomet was never closed. It was more or less inactive since loosing last time in 2009 but the party stayed registered and used as a "shelf party" by Hazan. If you compare the names running in 2009 and 2019 some of the names will be identical - there are new candidates but the old ones are still around. Please merge articles. the Democratic primaries[edit]

I'm putting a copy of my comment here:

"David O. Johnson talk contribs‎ 170,133 bytes +1‎ Undid revision 902165738 by Arglebargle79 (talk) we don't have to go by what the DNC says" Well, we should. and here's why: they RUN the damn thing. Four years ago, they ran out several candidates in order to fix it for Hillary, and four years before that they refused to let in the delegates for several challengers to Obama, even though they got close or did better than 40% of the vote in some primaries. Also, we must never assume that the casual reader is going to go to other pages. Thus, in a "survey article" like this one, we need a summary of what the state of the race is. The DNC is running this race, and therefore we MUST defer to their judgment, even if we do not necessarily agree with it. NOT to have a separation of the invited candidates from the disinvited ones, is misleading. That is something we shouldn't do. Arglebargle79 (talk) 10:37, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

please stop reflexivly reverting everything i do. For example: Sistack just announced yesterday, and you reverted because he had "withdrawn" Not nice. Arglebargle79 (talk) 19:37, 24 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Since I noticed you have often edited the 2020 Democratic Party presidential debates and forums page, I was wondering if you could help me with the main page 2020 Democratic Party presidential primaries. Wikipedia editor Cartoon Boy removed Mike Gravel from the subsection "Withdrew before the primaries" in the "Candidates" section, citing the lack of sourcing for this. However, Gravel has withdrawn & I had a Vanity Fair article that I had placed in the "Timeline" section on July 31, 2019 detailing Gravel's withdrawal. Since I don't know how to make the table thing being used for the candidates, & I have edited Cartoon Boy's talk page to no avail, I am asking you to revert his edit and include my source. Thanks!

Sestak at 2020 Democratic Primaries[edit]

Hi, would like to hear a little more about your reasoning here. My thoughts (and I am relatively ambivalent about this) is that Sestak's career as a three-star officer in the US Armed Forces is at least as notable as Warren and the CFPB, which is the only other non-elected federal office listed in the table. If I have read correctly, the other candidates with military service are Buttigieg (Lieutenant, Navy Reserve), Gabbard (Major, Army National Guard), and Moulton (Captain, US Army). I think there's a clear difference between them and Sestak but would be interested to know your thoughts. Thanks, NW (Talk) 22:49, 30 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Sir Sorry to bother you I see that you are interested in politics and in referendums (After i want to thank u fir ur tireless work efforts and edits) I want to refer to a very unpublicised english-none sourced or mentioned referendum that occured yesterday in August. Hope u can see fit that u or another more experienced editor create the English page for https://es.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consulta_popular_para_convocar_a_referéndum_contra_la_Ley_Trans

For more infos, please check https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_rights_in_Uruguay#Gender_identity_and_expression and a simple google search for Ley Trans Uruguay will give u multiple sources and infos that i'm sure are all in the spanish wiki page of that miserably failed referendum Thank you sir! which is a translation of this https://es.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consulta_popular_para_convocar_a_referéndum_contra_la_despenalización_del_aborto_en_Uruguay So!

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks![edit]

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Ecotechie reverts[edit]

Hello David. I wasn't sure what the problem was with these edits. Ecotechie changed the link to be a direct one, but not the text of the article, which continued to refer to the party as the Green Movement. These types of edits are discouraged as being pointless (as long as redirects remain in place), but they shouldn't be reverted if made. Cheers, Number 57 12:42, 8 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The reason I changed them was that the organization wasn't named the "Green Party", but the "Green Movement", when said events took place. Looking back on it, I see it's a non-issue in the bigger scheme of things. Thanks for the heads up. David O. Johnson (talk) 18:09, 8 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit undid a few of my changes—mostly trimming of somewhat obsolete info now that a more specific timeline has been announced. Did you mean to do that, or only to move the refs as stated in your edit summary? Thanks, UpdateNerd (talk) 06:15, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I only moved the refs up, as stated in my edit summary. I don't know what happened with the rest of the edits. I'll revert my edit. David O. Johnson (talk) 06:21, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion notification[edit]

Hello. File:Logo of the United Jewish Home.jpeg was speedily deleted under CSD criterion F5 because it was an orphaned non-free use image which was very unlikely to have any use on any other valid article.

The image was orphaned because United Jewish Home was proposed for deletion and subsequently deleted. If you wish to have the article and image restored, you can request such at WP:REFUND. Cheers. --kingboyk (talk) 18:59, 24 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Managing off-wiki harassment[edit]

Hi. Next time you receive a threatening or harassing email through the Wikipedia function, it's probably best to send it as evidence via email to the Arbitration Committee rather than disclosing it in public. Anyway, I would not worry about this, at all. Just make sure you never respond to such emails so your email address does not get disclosed. Thanks and keep up the good work! Thanks for your advice. David O. Johnson (talk) 05:50, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

American politics discretionary sanctions notice[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in post-1932 politics of the United States and closely related people. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Iowa Caucus[edit]

There are no official results reported for the Iowa caucus, and what you are referencing are unofficial results. Instead of reverting to vandalism, please state your argument on the page's talk page here and explain why The Green Papers and The Daily Kos are better sources than the ones I provided (The New York Times, The Washington Post and the IDP's official website) who have ALL published that 0 out of 1765 precincts have reported their results. David, I made an edit to Yellowhammer News revising you. Don't want you to think I'm sneaky so telling you what I did. I explained my reasons in my edit summary. HighAtop94 (talk) 18:06, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Is that edit summary supposed to be an insult?David O. Johnson (talk) 18:23, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oh my goodness, not at all meant to be an insult! No no, just some levity. I don't spend a lot of time on Wikipedia, I don't know if it's overly crazy to tell you if I change one of your edits, maybe I was being too cautious in alerting you to this little change. I don't know, maybe it woudl be like picking up the apple cores that Michael Jordan has around his waste paper basket because he missed and then tossing them in. Terrible analogy I know. I sort of feel bad and want to post this quickly and assure you I didn't mean that as an insult at all! So sorry. I didn't spend a lot of time looking at what you do on Wikipedia, I assume you are a force for more info and good (and, not too be too dramatic but, frankly, making the world better) and I should be more careful with comments that can be taken as insults. HighAtop94 (talk) 22:59, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think I have ever seen such blatant abuse of rollback as this. Don't do it again. –MJLTalk 15:48, 21 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Oh my gosh, how has no one warned you about edits like this: [14] [15] [16] [17]. @El C: please review. –MJLTalk 15:54, 21 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The third instance you cite [18] is a clear act of vandalism, going against established consensus. Most of the editors came to the consensus here: [19] that Rocky De La Fuente was a major candidate, though some disagree and make it known by editing in that way. The fourth instance [20] was adding back sourced info, as the name of the group in the cited ref was "Congressional Hispanic Caucus BOLD", as you can see in the ref: "CHC BOLD, the political arm of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus." [21].David O. Johnson (talk) 17:05, 21 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
David, although I'm not that strict when it comes to rollback use, you do need to start applying it more judiciously, or you risk that userright being revoked. Thanks and good luck. El_C 19:06, 21 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

March Madness 2020[edit]

G'day all, March Madness 2020 is about to get underway, and there is bling aplenty for those who want to get stuck into the backlog by way of tagging, assessing, updating, adding or improving resources and creating articles. Will you please stop with the edit Rollback abuse![edit]

You know darn well, I"m doing this in good faith. You also know that "incumbent/nominee, challengers" has been used in every primary article with an incumbent in it since the one for 1984. 2004, 1996, and 1992, just for reference.

You also know that Super Tuesday is in 48 hours or so, and then there will be lots of necessary disruption all across the entire spectrum of articles in the series. Do you really think that it'll look "encyclopedic' not acknowledging the simple fact that Trump has been the provisional Republican nominee for over a year, and the pretense that this is a competitive race should finally be put to bed for good starting Wednesday? Trump will be a hundred and a tad votes short of the nomination at that point and including the states where he's unopposed (this is not sports, we can count this stuff), he's already got enough to clinch the nomination, the whole thing is pro forma anyway starting at that point, hell, it's pro forma now. So stop reverting everything I do, okay?Arglebargle79 (talk) 20:01, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Just a heads up, it's probably worth keeping an eye on this article. I suspect our IP friend will not easy accept the fact that Gesher can't become a Knesset faction on its own until the House Committee agrees. Cheers, Number 57 14:34, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wow you must have some sort of obsession about me, that’s already twice you have talked to someone about me. Trust me, I am not your friend because if, you truly would be a friend, you would have a different attitude and you would be nicer/knows how to talk to someone kindly and by the way, when you are wrong, which is a lot, your not easy to convince when users give you sources because you only believe in yours. - 98.115.9.16 (talk) 20:44, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The issue with your edits is that they were incorrect; as Number57 pointed out here: [22], factions don't split until approved by the Knesset speaker. They even provided a link in their edit. David O. Johnson (talk) 04:30, 13 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hey David,

Can you look at the RfP section on the Gillum talk page? I'm a new wikier, and I'd like to understand the underlying policies as well. Would the detail be alright if multiple, credible news sites reported the fact?

Respond to revert to my edits at DEVA Party page[edit]

Hi David O. Johnson,

DEVA party is a center-right, neoliberal capitalist party in all perspectives. The "second hand independent" resources were simply whitewashing right-wing posts only to praise that particular political party as centrist, neutral democracy party opposed to regime of Erdoğan, whichi has bad times with the west. The reason I have provided reference from the first hand was only to show even themselves acknowledge their own neoliberal, center-right socioeconomic programs. I can provide citations from news sites that think the same way as I do as well. There are many second hand leftist news sites that are even calling Babacan a fascist regarding the fish hook theory and his very political actions performed in the past, but I try to be neutral and politically correct. --Comrade-yutyo (talk) 11:03, 1 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Esther[edit]

Can you outline why you believe Debresser's recent edits to the page improve things by removing all mention of the ahistoricity of Esther from the lead and depriving the reader of it any help in understanding that Esther is fictional? I think the layout before this obvious attempt to conceal this information further down the article was better, don't you? GPinkerton (talk) 17:05, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think the previous layout was better; that's why I moved it back. It's exactly the same info, so it wouldn't be "depriving the reader of it any help in understanding that Esther is fictional"; the only difference is it's further down and in its own section. David O. Johnson (talk) 17:11, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The lead is supposed to summarize the article. At present nothing in the lead tells the reader that Esther is fictional character in a historical novel. It presently reads as though Esther was a historical person. That needs to be rectified to avoid being grossly misleading. GPinkerton (talk) 17:38, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

2021 California gubernatorial recall election[edit]

Hello. I have reverted your edit just because spacing is already present between the comment and the Polling section, double-spacing makes a new, blank line and it is something that you don't want on an article. What's the point removing redundant references about the recall process? There is no harm. They are from different sources, authorities, and with different accounting of the facts, and redundancy preserve the record where links may be dropped. Please revert.

Johnson" (which is not your real name) as your wikipedia ID. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Xoltron (talkcontribs) 15:16, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Which occasions are you referring to? How do you know that it is or is not my real name? That may count as WP:ASPERSIONS. David O. Johnson (talk) 00:05, 5 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Xoltron: please sign your posts properly. There is no notable person with an article on Wikipedia by the name of "David O. Johnson", so I really don't see your point about this editor's name. If you actually have a problem with it, WP:UAA is thataway. Elizium23 (talk) 00:30, 5 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

An editor changed the title of article in the lead again[27] repeating a change that you reverted once already.[28]

I'm fairly sure your edit was correct and the other editor is wrong but I cannot fully explain why. I would appreciate if you could explain on the article Talk page why exactly he's wrong and based on what guidelines. I also think he might be making his changes based on the false assumption that there is a connection between the film and the Amazon Jack Ryan series TV when the two productions were entirely separate and there is no connection between the two. 2021 Israeli legislative election[edit]

Hello, David, you removed the Benjamin Netanyahu template I added to the article. In your edit summary, you stated, "removed unhelpful link". Not sure what you mean by that. In what way is the template not helpful when the article does concern Netanyahu and the template has relevancy? --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 22:39, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It actually doesn't as he's the only Israel politician to have a template on Wikipedia. Not sure where the NPOV comes in. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 23:49, 21 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Wars and the Israel-Palestine conflict...please fill out my survey?[edit]

Hello :) I am writing my MA dissertation on Wikipedia Wars and the Israel-Palestine conflict, and I noticed that you have contributed to those pages. My dissertation will look at the process of collaborative knowledge production on the Israel-Palestine conflict, and the effect it has on bias in the articles. This will involve understanding the profiles and motivations of editors, contention/controversy and dispute resolution in the talk pages, and bias in the final article.

For more information, you can check out my meta-wiki research page or my user page, where I will be posting my findings when I am done.

I would greatly appreciate if you could take 5 minutes to fill out this quick survey before 8 August 2021.

Participation in this survey is entirely voluntary and anonymous. There are no foreseeable risks nor benefits to you associated with this project.

Thanks so much,

Editing of Patrick J. Donahoe[edit]

Hello, you and I have gone back and forth on a couple of edits and I wanted to point a few things out:

None of the currently cited biographies list the names of his children. Since they're minors, I've removed them to prevent further issues. The family has received death threats in light of recent publicity and continuing to allow the children's names to be published is inviting further negative attention. Please respect the family's wishes.

Thank you for your consideration.

It would be better to discuss it on the article's Talk page. David O. Johnson (talk) 22:44, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Zandberg as a retiring MK[edit]

Hey David, i saw that you recently reverted an edit of mine at 2022 Israeli legislative election. I think we should discuss the removal and the criteria for the inclusion of retiring incumbents. The list also includes Issawi Frej, who hasn't been an MK since 2021 as a consequence of the Norwegian law. The list relates to retiring incumbents, but not exclusively incumbent MKs. Should the list include retiring individuals who are not members of the Knesset as a consequence of the Norwegian Law on account of notability? We could also rename the section to Retiring MKs or Retiring Members of the Knesset. I wasn't sure whether to discuss this here or on the talk page but regardless. Totalstgamer (talk) 18:57, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I see your point. I think it'd be better to continue the discussion on the articles' talk page. David O. Johnson (talk) 19:02, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I forgot to mention a couple days back that i opened a discussion on the article's talk page, we should probably reach a consensus before the end of the month since there might be more retirements by then Totalstgamer (talk) 14:26, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you re-add the section saying Tara Sweeney defeated Begich and Palin? She didn’t even run in the run-off. Please double check before reverting someone’s edit. There is still no citation on the claim, and there can’t be, because Sweeney dropped out before ranked choice voting began. Cprice45 (talk) 03:50, 1 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I misread it. David O. Johnson (talk) 03:57, 1 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Bayit Yehudi leadership[edit]

The single source you added is incorrect. Brodny is not head of the party, just head of the election party list, whilst Hagit Moshe is still chairperson. Usually party leaders in Israel do both, this is a rare exception. Source: As revealed on INN: Yossi Brodny elected to head Jewish Home Party. Please correct relevant articles. DGtal (talk) 06:47, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. There are three other sources (at least) that indicate Brodny is currently party chair:
[Jewish Press https://www.jewishpress.com/news/politics/jonathan-pollard-endorses-ayelet-shaked-she-knows-she-made-mistakes/2022/08/30/]
[The Jerusalem Post https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/politics-and-diplomacy/article-715770]
[Arutz Sheva https://www.israelnationalnews.com/news/359394].
It's illogical to use an older source for a claim when more recent sources (including one from the same website) disprove the claim you're making. David O. Johnson (talk) 23:55, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I knew I was right all the way, but had little time to find a current article of a journalist who actually knows the nuances. Luckily the wait turned out for the best and a day ago the party send a public announcement source:
I don't know how good your Hebrew is but the message clearly states that Moshe is chairperson of the party and Brodny is chairperson of the party list. I hope this clears up matters. 05:26, 13 September 2022 (UTC)
That settles it. I appreciate the clarification. David O. Johnson (talk) 05:39, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Egyptian Renaissance Party requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Reverting edit on Reddit article[edit]

Hi,

Just noticed you reverted my edit. First, I'd like to respectfully point you to WP:NOTRELIABLE and potentially WP:BLPSELFPUB. There's little point in arguing or pointlessly edit warring, so I'm just going to leave it as is and just leave this note instead.

The argument is semantic, that's fair, but it's not an accurate statement. The apps were, in fact, capable, for the low price of millions of dollars a year (sarcasm very much intended), of remaining online. Like I said, semantics, but technically the authors shut down, not Reddit. Toxictaru (talk) 10:30, 4 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

2024 USA Election primaries[edit]

Hi! This is regarding my edits on the 2024 Democratic Party presidential primaries and 2024 Republican Party presidential primaries. You've reverted both of them citing that it was vandalism and non-alphabetical order fix. Kindly explain yourself as these difference revisions prove that I've done exactly that : 1 2. Thanks. ChaitanyaJo (talk) 09:45, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit on 2024 Republican Party presidential primaries made Hutchinson the first candidate, followed by Christie:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=2024_Republican_Party_presidential_primaries&oldid=1167989536
That's not alphabetical order, by last name. David O. Johnson (talk) 12:05, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Doesn't alphabetical order apply to the first names. Even then, what's the problem with the democratic primaries? ChaitanyaJo (talk) 12:20, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's the exact same issue.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MobileDiff/1167989554
It's supposed to be sorted by last name, alphabetically. David O. Johnson (talk) 12:26, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah. Then it seems to be a misunderstanding. Here, the convention is to alphabetize by first name but it appears that the last name one is followed more. Thanks! ChaitanyaJo (talk) 16:55, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Gar Samuelson[edit]

In this edit to Gar Samuelson, reverting the removal of "jazz fusion", you said that you "will add refs on it". You gave one in a subsequent edit summary, but all that states is that he "started out as a jazz drummer", without giving any details (and it's in a book named Rock Obituaries, which doesn't sound like a good location for information on jazz!). Are there more sources for him being a professional jazz musician or jazz being a significant part of his professional playing experience? EddieHugh (talk) 21:49, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

September 2023[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Enrique Tarrio. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Hi David this edit is the fourth time you reverted on Enrique Tarrio within a 24 hour period. You need to self-revert immediately. Megadeth Line-up[edit]

Why do you keep removing Teemu as the Megadeth guitarist? Megadeth themselves are the supreme authority on who their members are, and their website lists Teemu as their new guitarist. Kiko is listed under "line-up history" as a part of a previous line-up, not the current one.[2] Dave has also said they will be moving forward with Teemu as the new guitarist. Kiko is not a current member, and therefore should not be listed as one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.211.133.113 (talk) 21:12, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Reversion of Important Information in the Knesset Page[edit]

I have included the historic name of Givat Ram, where the Knesset is situated. It is important to at least briefly include that the Knesset was built on a destroyed village called Sheikh Badr. The addition I made was fair and unbiased and only states historic facts without any personal opinions seeping into it. Including the historical name of what used to be a village is crucial to help the reader understand the politics and history of the area of which the Knesset is situated on. Reversing this information is an active attempt at censoring information which is very important to some people such as the past inhabitants of Sheikh Badr or their descendants. What I have added does not constitute as vandalism, just briefly including the historic name when talking about Givat Ram. PixelationPro (talk) 19:01, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Cenk[edit]

By the same logic of removing Cenk, wouldn't you all remove Williamson and Phillips? Neither of them are so-called "major" either. But those two with Cenk all participated in the same forum not all that long ago. Biden refuses to debate any. So I believe all three belong in the chart or not at all! — Preceding unsigned comment added by FightingWhales (talkcontribs) 21:38, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Phillips is definitely a major candidate, as he's a sitting House member. David O. Johnson (talk) 21:49, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The stated requirements are that a candidate has to meet one of the following:
  1. Receive substantial major media coverage
  2. are or have been elected to major public office such as president, vice president, governor, U.S. senator or U.S. representative
  3. have been included in at least five national polls
Uygur has not been elected to any public office, so he doesn't meet (2). Additionally, he has only been included in 3 polls, so he doesn't meet (3). However, he has received some media coverage, so he could meet (1), but it's unclear. We had a discussion, and I argued that he should be included, but I was in the minority, and it was clear that there was no consensus that he met (1). Since he doesn't meet (1), (2), or (3), he is not a major candidate per these requirements.
Notice that nowhere in these requirements does it say anything about participating in debates. Just because a candidate participated in a debate does not mean they are a major candidate, and not participating in the debate does not exclude them from being a major candidate.
Biden, Williamson, and Phillips are clearly major. Biden is a sitting US President and former Vice President and U.S. Senator, meeting requirement (1). He also has been included in more than 5 polls and has received substantial media coverage, so he meets (2) and (3) as well. Additionally, Phillips is a sitting U.S. representative, and has been included in over 5 polls, so he's clearly notable as well. Williamson has received media coverage, although less than Phillips and Biden, and has been included in over 5 polls, so she too is notable. However, for the reasons discussed above, Cenk Uygur, at the moment, is not.
In addition to the fact that Uygur does not meet the requirements to become a major candidate, he also does not appear to meet the constitutional requirements to become President of the United States, as he is not a natural-born citizen.[1] While this does not mean he should be excluded from being a major candidate, it does make the calculus more difficult. In the previous discussion, multiple editors indicated that this ineligibility was a reason why they opposed including Uygur as a major candidate. Even if we accept that it is not Wikipedia's job to determine if Uygur is a major candidate, or that we shouldn't assume that he'll lose in court on the question, Uygur has also not made the ballot, for various reasons, in 25 states so far, while only making the ballot in 8 states. Even if he makes the ballot in every state where the filing deadline has not passed (and he didn't turn in any signatures in Rhode Island, so that's not off to a good start and won't happen), it's very difficult to argue that we should include Uygur as a major candidate when half of the country will not even see him as an option, and it isn't even possible for him to win the nomination outright.[2]
All this being said, however, the current policies don't have any provisions relating to whether a candidate can win or is eligible to be president. As long as they are either covered by the media, included in five polls, or held elected office, they can be included. As discussed above, Uygur has not been included in five polls, is not an elected official, and the current consensus is that he does not have enough media coverage to be considered a major candidate. However, consensus can change, and it's possible that it has since the previous discussion. Additionally, the requirements could be modified to allow another recourse for a candidate like Uygur to be considered major. If you wish to do this, the best avenue is to familiarize yourself with talk page guidelines and then create a new discussion promoting Uygur to be a major candidate. This will allow editors to share their input and we'll see what happens with the consensus. For the reasons shared above, I don't think that the discussion will cause any change, but if you want to open one, feel free. Again, however, debates have nothing to do with it.
TLDR
  • Uygur is not a major candidate because consensus says he doesn't have enough media coverage; debates have nothing to do with it
  • Williamson, Phillips, and Biden are major candidates because they are options in polls and Phillips and Biden are sitting public officials
  • Uygur is not eligible to be president and has missed the ballot in 25 states
  • If you think Uygur has enough media coverage to be a major candidate, start a talk page discussion and talk about all the coverage he's gotten.

  2. ^ The states he has been disqualified in are worth 2,455 delegates, leaving him with only 1,481 possible delegates he can still gain. There are 3,936 delegates, and a majority is required to win, which is 1,969. If no one gets a majority on the first ballot, it goes to a second round, where 738 superdelegates can vote. The new majority threshold is 2,338, and even if all superdelegates vote for Uygur, he's at 2,219, meaning he can't win the nomination without votes from delegates pledged to other candidates (or uncommitted) or a win as a write-in, which isn't even possible in many states.

Revision of my edit on 2024/02/16[edit]

Hello, at 7:04, you un-did my edit on 2024 Democratic Party presidential primaries, why? The link I edited ( 2024 Democrats Abroad presidential primary ) redirects to 2024 Democratic Party presidential primaries#Primaries and caucus calendar, the very paragraph the reader is on when clicking this link, which I find not very useful and surprising. Could you justify your reversion? Can I put back the link to Democrats abroad, or at least rid this text of any link? Kindly,
Blocktomo (talk) 07:56, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
There's a draft article that's specific to the 2024 Democrats Abroad primary, here: Draft:2024 Democrats Abroad presidential primary. I'll try to get more information added to it (the submission of that article was declined nine days ago). I think it's better to have the redirect for now, as it exists: [31], rather than linking to the generic Democrats Abroad wikilink. David O. Johnson (talk) 21:24, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I would like to call more experienced wikipedians out of curiosity.
Please, please, do not consider this as an attempt to Discredit you in any way, in my point of view, I am merely trying to learn more on wikipedia's principles, as a new member myself.
@Robert McClenon and @Lightoil
Dear Lightoil and Robert McClenon,
Recently, Mr. Johnson and I were having a discussion as to wether a link to a future article should be kept, or if it shoud only be added once established.
David O. Johnson, the reason I bring the subject to more experienced Wikipedians is that I have had the same train of thought as you not so long ago on french wikipedia, where I edit mostly, and an elder kindly explained to me the proper way to do things.
Robert McClenon, Lightoil, you have rejected twice Draft:2024 Democrats Abroad presidential primary, so if I make an analogy to what I have learned on french Wikipedia, my point would be the valid one: no redirection should be created until the article of which we speak is effectively created and verified as meeting Wikipedia's notability standards,
is this correct?
Thank you for your help,
Thank you, dear David O. Johnson, for your consideration and patience,
Kindly,
Blocktomo (talk) 22:44, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Blocktomo: I agree with David O. Johnson just keep it as a redirect for now till the draft is moved to mainspace. Lightoil (talk) 00:02, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
User:Blocktomo - I don't understand the question. Please rephrase it for me. Robert McClenon (talk) 02:29, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My question is the one which opened this topic : Right now, on 2024 Democratic Party presidential primaries#Primaries and caucus calendar, there is a link to 2024 Democratic Party presidential primaries#Primaries and caucus calendar attached to the text "Democrats Abroad". I suggested putting a link to Democrats Abroad, or at least clear the text of any valuable link, but David O. Johnson and Lightoil seem to think it is okay this redirection is present in the text.
For me, this is contrary to any Wikipedia Typography Guideline, since the reader is deceived upon clicking on the hyperlink over "Democrats Abroad", thinking it will lead them to the "Democrats Abroad" page.
Could you infirm or confirm my doubt?
Thank you,
Blocktomo (talk) 22:17, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
User:Blocktomo - I looked at it. It is a stupid self-referential redirect link. If I click on it, it takes me right back to where I had been. But the links for some other states do the same thing if the articles on their primaries have not yet been written. The same thing happens if I click on Maryland and District of Columbia, the two that are of most interest to me. I think that those three links, and any other links that behave in the same way, should be revised, but if they are left as is, at least for now, I don't think that one of them should be changed unless they are all changed to do something less stupid. Am I sort of answering the question? Robert McClenon (talk) 16:24, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, I am DONE with this edit warring.[edit]

Brad Little probably meant that he would endorse Trump in the general. He so far has not endorsed a candidate, and if he did it has not been covered by reliable sources. Nonetheless, I will quit edit warring. Petjayso (talk) 05:47, 3 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hawaii caucuses[edit]

Howdy David. Shouldn't 2024 Hawaii Democratic presidential caucus be moved the plural 2024 Hawaii Democratic presidential caucuses? -- GoodDay (talk) 16:04, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think it should be moved, thanks. David O. Johnson (talk) 16:44, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

RFK Jr[edit]

I don't think it's undue. Given the fact he has received much more publicity and headlines, and has much higher poll numbers than any of the other 3rd party/independents, I think it's appropriate he have his own section. Lumping him in with all the other ones undercuts where he is in the race. Vjmlhds (talk) 23:10, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It'd be best to comment on the article talk page. David O. Johnson (talk) 23:59, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

POV pushing on Israeli parties[edit]

Hello – thanks for your reverts on a couple of Israel party articles. There seems to have been a concerted push from a couple of editors to move nearly every party over one place on the political spectrum (which I noted at WT:Israel). Worth keeping an eye on – there is at least one live discussion ongoing (at Talk:Yesh Atid). Cheers, Number 57 23:38, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, please explain why you're reverting edits in your edit summary. Your edit summary is insufficient (for me); "Removed unrelated info; spacing".

This was one of the reasons for his arrest and got a lot attention from media. I believe this pretty related and worth to mention in the page. Throat0390 (talk) 10:18, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
