Workshop Session

The purpose of this workshop is to acquaint the students with the overall scope of Wikipedia, its policies and practices. The workshop will provide a hand-on training on how to become valuable editors. At the end of the workshop, there will be an article writing competition between 28 January 2016 to 28 February 2016. The overall aim of the workshop is to increase the number of editors from Nigeria. Nigeria-related topics/subjects are poorly covered on Wikipedia and this could be attributed to low number of editors from Nigeria. The first workshop was held on 16 January 2016 on the University main campus and the second workshop will take place on 28 January 2016. Since the inception of Wikipedia, it has become an invaluable destination for millions of people across the globe seeking information. However, only a small fraction of Wikipedia’s legion of volunteer editors are from Nigeria. This workshop, is the first of its kind in Nigeria, and would address this concern, and also mark the start of a series of such workshops in Nigeria.
