Old applications[edit]

  1. Cyborg Ninja (talk · contribs). I've been working on Wikipedia articles since at least 2007, but some of my edits were done anonymously in the past depending on if I felt like signing in or not. I have a strong focus in neurology and pathology, but also work on other medical articles. Access to Cochrane will help me expand my knowledge, and especially provide material to link to for references in Wiki articles.
  2. Mikael Häggström (talk · contribs). My name is Mikael Häggström, MD, and I've been contributing to Wikipedia since 2006, with 38,000 edits, mainly to medical articles ([1]). I have a particular interest in articles related to reproductive medicine; I'm a member of the Reproductive medicine task force, and regularly summarize the latest contents of Human Reproduction Update in Wikipedia. Actually, just a couple of hours before I was informed of this offer I updated Wikipedia content related to a Cochrane review ([2]). In that case I used the summary in Human Reproduction Update as a reference, and I've done the same for Cochrane reviews before. However, with direct access to Cochrane, I'll be able to study the data behind the conclusions in order to make more accurate entries for similar studies in the future. 3. Kmhkmh (talk · contribs) I'm active since 2007 with >8000 edits in en.wp and >31,000 edits in de.wp. However medical or biochemical articles are not my main area of activity, but I do edit and proofread some of them occasionally. So you can probably consider me a semi-active editor in that area. Nevertheless if we have more accounts than active editors in that area available, then I'd like to ask for one that I could use for my occasional editing and proofreading.--Kmhkmh (talk) 21:29, 16 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  4. Zad68 (talk · contribs) I am a very active WP:MED editor and look to Cochrane as the gold standard for medical sourcing. I've been on Wikipedia since 2008 with most of my activity in the past year and some months. Most (probably 85% or more) of my 13,000+ edits in that time frame have been related to WP:MEDICINE-scope content. In the past year I brought Circumcision to GA quality which required totally redoing the sourcing and rewriting the article almost entirely from scratch, and right now I'm in the middle of bringing Low back pain to GA status. I also do GA reviews, I did the GA reviews for Fecal incontinence and Burn and right now I'm in the middle of doing the GA review for Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. I sometimes work in the medical library of the nearby university to use their books but that does not get me access to journals or Cochrane. Getting this access would be of tremendous and immediate value. Zad68 03:58, 17 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Emergency doc (talk · contribs). I am Emergency doc. I'm specialist in emergency medicine, orthopedic an trauma surgery. I am part of the Redaktion Medizin in the german Wikipedia. I am active since 2011 and my edit count is 7000+. I'd like to get access to the Cochrane Lib to improve existing an write new medical articles in the german Wikipedia.--Emergency doc (talk) 22:02, 16 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  6. Doc.mari (talk · contribs). I've been contributing to Wikipedia since 2009, with more than 9000 edits. I am a member of the Italian Wikiproject Medicine and author of several medical articles on it.wikipedia. My main interest is nephrology. Having a direct access to Cochrane would help me to improve quality and reliability of the articles I write or update. --Doc.mari (talk) 21:47, 16 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  7. Partynia (talk · contribs). I´m active as a medical editor Redaktion Medizin in the german Wikipedia. I've been contributing to Wikipedia since 2012 and my edit count is almost 9.800 edits mainly in the area of medicine. My focuses are health professionals, health system, general medicine and dentistry. I have a higher doctorate and would appreciate an access to Cochrane. --Partynia (talk) 21:51, 16 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  8. cpt_ricard (talk · contribs). I'm a long-term editor (since 2006) with an MD who essentially scours individual sites and cleans them up accordingly in terms of prose; part of Wikiproject Medicine; especially clarifying large-picture thinking, ensuring topics can be accessed in terms of comprehension as broadly as possible. Latest edits include homeopathy, cardiotocography. MD IRL, always use Cochrane to review relevant topics but always disappointed when I can't pass a paywall. In any event, many thanks to Cochrane inc. for the wonderful donation! Cpt ricard (talk) 22:23, 16 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  9. Lientje111 (talk · contribs) I'm an editor in the dutch wikipedia with a special interest in medical and scientific articles. Unfortunatly there is still a lot of work to do on this subjects in the dutch wiki. A recurrent problem is the misuse of poor quality research in proving pov opinions. Acces to the Cochrane database would be very helpfull in increasing the quality of certain medical or scientific articles. Lientje111 (talk) 22:30, 16 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  13. Peter.C (talk · contribs) I have been editing medical articles for the past two years and have accumulated over 6000 edits. The biggest barrier to me being able to edit Wikipedia has been my lack of access to journal articles as I do not have any affiliation with any professinal organization that provides me with research databases. My main contributions have been to injury/trauma articles.Peter.Ctalkcontribs 00:03, 17 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  14. DoctorJoeE (talk · contribs). I have been active on Wikipedia since mid-2008, with over 5,000 edits. I am an MD (specializing in dermatology) and also a journalist, and I edit a wide variety of medicine and science articles, with a focus on improving accuracy and adding updated information as it becomes available. Like all editors I have a finite amount of editing time available to me, so access to Cochrane would be a big help and a real time-saver. I do not have free access to Cochrane at this moment. At this moment, on the english wikipedia "Itsme" is not my username, it will be in August 2013, when all user accounts will be globalized (since I am owner of the global user account 'Itsme'). From that moment, my current username "'Aldert'" (86 edits on english wikipedia, active since 2007) on the english Wikipedia will not be used anymore. I will then configure the preferences of User:Itsme to receive email. Until that moment, I will receive mail via my current account. P.S. 33. Taketa (talk · contribs) - I am a medical intern from the Netherlands, and teach resuscitation at my university for a living. I will graduate this year and loose my access to Cochrane and Pubmed. I have been an editor since 2008, with over 35,000 edits. My work in the field of medicine mostly focuses on writing articles, mainly on anatomy and pathology and improving existing articles. I help at the local medical helpdesk, which I co-founded. Having direct access to Cochrane from my home, instead of only from the university library, will help me improve the articles I work on. Moreover, I am the founder of the Wikiproject medicine in Tamil Wikipedia. Due to the lack of access to various research articles, there is always problem to cite or verify the medical articles. Using various textbooks is also sometime an issue without having proper sources. With the access to various resources and research articles, the medical articles written or to be written in various Wikipedia language projects will be stronger than before. I wrote FA Tourette syndrome, worked extensively on autism, Asperger syndrome, schizophrenia, tuberculosis, and many others. I keep an eye on medical articles that appear at FAC or DYK, but rarely follow GA. Due to a recent relocation and life change (which has kept me quite busy IRL for the last year), I have no access to a medical or a university library, which makes it very difficult now for me to add or review content to the extent I did in the past. I recently got access via Wikipedia to JSTOR, and have found it unhelpful for medical editing. I've been on somewhat of a wikibreak on and off the last year as I finish up with college, but I usually work on lesser known or less popular medical articles with the belief that every topic deserves the same amount of attention. I haven't been able to write many high quality articles simply because there isn't enough information out there on the topics I am writing about.
