Wikipedia:Requests for feedback/2011 March 18

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I have rewritten the article for Riverbed Technology. While I am an employee of the company, I have worked hard to avoid bias. My biggest concern is that I have truly written an objective article. My version, located on my user page, is a complete rewrite, so I am not interested in comparing it to the original. I just want to make sure that I have: - avoided bias - adequately referenced its content - not done anything else that will cause the article to be flagged when posted.

Thank you very much. Evan Marcus

Hiya and welcome,

The main issue at the moment is that the article needs references from independant sources, eg newspapers, magazines, books, to prove that the company is notable enough for an encyclopedia entry. Read through Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) which explains in more detail.

Secondly, it still reads a bit like an advertisement, for example "Cascade is an easy-to-deploy agentless solution for network and application visibility." and "Detailed information on the exam content can be found by reviewing the RCSP Study Guide." Try to avoid jargon, make the article more understandable to the general public, and aim for a neutral, encyclopedic tone.

Hoping this is the right way to continue to conversation. Please take another look; I added a series of external attributions that I hope will be sufficient to permit me to move this listing from my User Page to the Riverbed page, replacing the article that's already there. Thank you very much.

Regards,--Evan1t

Okay, I've taken another look. The external links you added are helpful in terms of notability - I've fixed them as they weren't quite working properly. To be honest though, it still reads more like a company flyer than an encyclopedia article - try to use less jargon, and there's no need to put product names in bold text.

Once you've done that, it's better to copy and paste your work into the current article than to try to move the page, because this keeps the history of the current article intact (which is important for boring licensing reasons). PS. The best way to contact me is using my talk page, as I'm likely to miss messages here.

I met Peter at a recent architecture event and considered him to be deserving of a Wikipedia page. I do not know him otherwise and have tried my best to be as unbiased as possible.

None of the references you have listed meet the criteria for reliable sources. You need to look for independent, secondary sources that cover the subject, rather than unpublished information he has written about himself. If you cannot find any such sources, then he is likely not notable enough to warrant an article of his own. -- Fyrefly (talk) 18:51, 18 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

References are hard to find, as the company and books they published are over 30 years old. As the owners and creators of the names and supplements are dying off, I wanted to get the information stored for history some where. Have I kept it neutral enough? I am one of the original creators, and as the artist and writers are all dead at this point, I am the only remaining member of the company that created the company and name Varanae. I have tried to write the information at arms length, but I need someone to take a look at it from outside my view.

I have photos that support the article. However, I cannot find a means to upload them to the site. Help please.

I just started here on wikipedia and it was already a triumph for me adding the paltry info on the site. How do you format and add Flashes pictures? If I add this as a stub, would others do it (I guess I'd need to link words in the article too)?

Please help if you have time. I'm such a rookie.

This is a page in progress on Zero Valent Iron Permeable Reactive Barriers (although the PRB part will probably be omitted from the title). Is there anything that needs to be changed format wise/content wise?
