Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."

  • To list a technical request: edit the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:

    {{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=reason for move}}

    This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
  • If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
  • If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

  • Jon Kent (DC Comics)  Jonathan Samuel Kent (currently a redirect back to Jon Kent (DC Comics)) (move · discuss) – WP:NATURALDAB -- this character was created in 2015 with this full name. Other DC characters named Jon Kent that preceded 2015 are not this character. This is not an overview article of Jon Kents in DC Comics, nor the Smallville father of Clark -- 65.92.247.66 (talk) 11:22, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    • We do not use full names if they are not commonly used, even for fictional characters. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:46, 30 April 2024 (UT)
    • Virtually all sources refer to this character as "Jon Kent". I don't think this is necessary. Coop (talk) 21:54, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
      • We have Jon Lane Kent who's also been called Jon Kent. Who is also a DC Comics character, who is also a son of Superman. So "DC Comics" is in all cases a bad disambiguator, since there are many characters in DC Comics milieu called "Jon Kent"; some other disambiguator is needed, or it needs the full character name as disambiguation -- 65.92.247.66 (talk) 22:06, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
+JMJ+ the current page title is a result of a RM discussion. Please open another one if you wish to move it. – robertsky (talk) 10:33, 28 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@RevolutionaryPatriot: See Shinwari (disambiguation). Shinwari is also a surname and a district. --Ahecht (TALK

Shinwari is a surname because in the world, the last name indicates a person's ancestry or tribal affiliation, being that of the Shinwari tribe. The Shinwari district in rural Parwana province isn't going to be confused with anyone because of how unknown it is. Tell me if you still think this is a needed clarification. RevolutionaryPatriot (talk) 21:47, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This seems like a case where the Pashtun tribe is the primary topic. Hydrangeans (she/her | talk | edits) 04:25, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly, there's only one meaning to the word "Shinwari" anywhere. The District is named after the predominant tribe, the surname is from members of the the tribe.
Shinwari has solely one use, people write up history in different articles on the tribe, history of India, Afghanistan, Anglo-Afghan Wars, ethnic background in biographies etc and they'd like to write Shinwari, there is no comparable usage on a wiki article on this website where someone will need to link Shinwari (District) or Surname, only the tribe. Needs to be properly named, for some reason the disambiguation page itself used take the name Shinwari, an uncorrected mistake of years that can be fixed now. @Shwabb1: The current name was the result of the discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ukraine/Archive 5#Requested move 13 June 2021. If you wish to proceed with this move, please open a formal move discussion first by clicking the "discuss" link in your request above. --Ahecht (TALK
