Round 1[edit]

  1. Bejnar (talk · contribs) I do a lot of citation work and verification. I often write one or two new articles per month. I do mostly non-BLP biography, geography, and occasional geology articles. In the past I have worked on Afghanistan history and geography, Libyan history and geography, Burma history and geography, New Mexico history and geography and Indian geography. I would say that about half of my biographies have been Americans, primarily scientists. Typical of my biographical articles are Michael Mbabuike and James Smoot Coleman both from 2008 when there was less emphasis on inline citation. For newer examples, see Yolanda Bedregal and last month's William Cattley. WikiChecker says I have over 40,000 edits, and Pages created says I've created 1289 new pages, excluding redirects, but including new disambiguation pages. I have edited since December 2005. I expect to use the OUP resources mostly for biographies, but also to add verification in existing history articles. --Bejnar (talk) 04:04, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  2. WCCasey (talk · contribs) I'm an American, an active editor on Wikipedia since 2009, with interests mainly in U.S. and British history. Access to OUP resources would be a tremendous help in WP article research. WCCasey (talk) 17:12, 8 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Alexikoua (talk · contribs). I'm active since 2008, with significant contribution to the wp:DYK column and c. 20,000 edits in total. I need new databases to use them as references.Alexikoua (talk) 12:04, 4 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  4. SMcCandlish (talk · contribs). Not a renewal, but formerly approved for both Credo and Highbeam. Wikipedian for 8+ years. I have a degree in anthropology and applied linguistics, but am not a professional academic so I don't have journal access any longer. My main (relevant) research needs are in arts (especially Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Symbolism, Arts & Crafts and Romanticism, as well as contemporary art, and post-punk music), biography (especially obscure but important sports figures, e.g. William A. Spinks, which is about 95% my work, and about read for Feature Article review), life sciences (felinology, herpetology, commercial animal breeding, history of domestication), anthropology/archaeology/history (e.g. Celtic history and religion, pre-Indo-European archaeology, history of sport), and various other topics (I'm a major contributor to articles on albinism, linguistics, and other subjects that require citation high-quality sources).  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  13:13, 2 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  5. User:Bmcln1. I'm a British editor living in Hungary, without library access to these resources. I am fluent in Hungarian and German and bad at French. I subscribe to ODNB (expensive). I'm active mainly in English literature and UK topography. I have created 57 articles since 2010 and made major additions to 140 more. Links to these can be found on User:Bmcln1. I have made over 12,000 edits to 1390 "unique pages".Bmcln1 (talk) 08:47, 2 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  6. User:EtienneDolet. I have over 14,000 edits. I have made at least 200 articles. I really need new databases to sources. Étienne Dolet (talk) 19:47, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  7. Hello, I am user Tom. It's Monday 28th April in England, so I'm going to add my application. I am active in brands and business related pages. I am principally involved in content creation. I do not currently have access to the Oxford resources through my local library or university. I can receive email from Wikipedia users. I am ranked in the top 2500 Wikipedia users by number of edits. Tom (talk) 13:09, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  10. I have over 10,000 edits on English Wikipedia since 2002; I frequently edit articles about scientific and mathematical history, and I lost my online OED access in 2009. Since then I have had to make do with my paper copy, which is much less convenient —Mark Dominus (talk) 17:29, 28 April 2014 (UTC).[reply]

  16. Hi, I'm User:Icarus of old, active since 2006. I write mainly about German and Austrian authors and literature, so the OUP would be an invaluable resource for me. All best. Icarus of old (talk) 18:12, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  17. I'm Density, with about 500 new articles in dewiki, winner of the 13th writing contest in dewiki. Emphasis on composer biographies, so especially interested in Grove Music Online access. --Density (talk) 18:42, 28 April 2014 UTC
  18. Hello I am User:Carriearchdale I have been on Wikipedia since 2007 and currently have over 2700 edits globally over all the wikis. I am interested in having access to this wonderful resource to expand and verify articles in several different interest areas including biographies, linguistics, literature, classic antiquity studies, the arts, and education. I do not have access through local libraries since I live in a quite rural type setting. I would especially like to have access to the "Dictionary of National Biography" to further my verification of bio articles and move into creation of new bio articles. Thanks for your kind consideration. Carriearchdale (talk) 19:19, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  20. User:Kmhkmh around 8800 edits in en.wp and around 33000 edits inen.wp since 2007. I could use tge account primarily for the verification and extension of existing articles, but possibly also for the occasional new one. Considering my work in WP in particular the access to the biographical material would be useful to me--Kmhkmh (talk) 19:32, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  21. User:JonRichfield. In the past four years or so I have done well over 3000 edits, and a fair proportion of my work has been on articles that I initiated. Most of the topics that I deal with are substantial, plus many RFCs (no groupie celeb touting for example). Most of my work is in a wide range of scientific and technical matters, particularly biological and computing, though I deal with a certain amount of historical and philological material as well. This often gets me into situations where OUP publications are the most desirable citations, and the accessible abstracts are not always an adequate basis for a good-faith citation. A good proportion of my work is in dealing with "citation wanted" material, so my requirements for reputable citations is atypically high. I am retired and cannot often reach the local university libraries where otherwise I could have got access to the desired publications, which I certainly could not afford myself, and do not apply for any material benefit to myself nor to any third party, commercial or otherwise. In short, I could make excellent use of access to the publications, publicising their value in the process. I am thoroughly aware of my responsibilities in protecting the interests of the publisher. Thank you for your attention. JonRichfield (talk) 19:56, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  22. Am Enock4seth from Ghana. Dictionary of National Biography will be of great use to me in writing and improving African biographies. →Enock4seth (talk) 20:10, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  23. Salvador_alc I'm active in spanish projects, specially in spanish Wikipedia. Where I have ~7,500 edits. I'm active editing articles about philosophy and history of religions, mexican politics and law. I would use the account to increase the references in the articles of spanish Wikipedia related to that topics. Thank you in advance. Salvador alc (talk) 20:55, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  24. Justlettersandnumbers Access to Grove, Grove Art and the DNB would be invaluable to me, both in content creation and (in the case of the DNB) in copyright cleanup, this being unfortunately a much-plagiarised source. A Brit not living in the UK, I don't have access through a local library, and my Open University access has lapsed. OED access would be wonderful ... could they be persuaded to include that too? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:22, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  25. DJ Nietzsche +18,000 editions on Spanish Wikipedia since 2007. I usually write articles related to psychology and social sciences in general. The OUP account would be a very helpful resource for me. Thanks. --DJ Nietzsche (talk) 21:45, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  26. User:Ealdgyth I do not have access to Oxford journals at a local library, and now that I'm taking care of my elderly mother full time, I can no longer drive the hour and a half to get to a university library to access them. I write on equine subjects as well as medieval English history, usually ecclesiastical, but other aspects as well. I have well over 50 featured articles I've worked on, as well as over 100 Good articles, with a long list of other articles I wish to work on. I had been paying for ODNB access myself, but it would be much easier on my life if I didn't have to cough that amount up each year. (My paid access has lapsed two months ago ... its been tight this winter and I haven't managed to get the money together to renew) Ealdgyth - Talk 21:54, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  27. Ruby2010 30,000+ edits, I edit articles on historical figures, mainly British noblewomen from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. Access to the ODNB would be invaluable (currently I access it through a friend, which obviously is not a great arrangement). Thank you for your consideration! 29. Iselilja I am active on English Wikipedia (6500 edits) and previously Norwegian Wikipedia (2500 edits, maybe will edit more again there) On English Wikipedia, I have started about 60 articles and written about 25 DYK articles; most of them within the last year and hope and expect to continue. On Norwegian Wikipedia, I used to be active in content competitions. I mostly write society related articles, both contemporary and historical; many biographies. The Norwegian Biographical Encyclopedia is available free online and I often use it when writing articles, so I know from experiences that these kind of sources can be helpful for me. I expect to find the most value in the American National Biography (mostly for creating, expanding and sourcing U.S. biographical articles), the Dictionary of National Biography (I seem to do a lot of DYK reviews for relevant articles), and Grove Music Online (I'm not awfully interested in music, but I do brush up against a lot of music-related topics). --Orlady (talk) 17:25, 1 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I currently have over 6,000 edits on English Wikipedia, with over 3,900 unique pages edited and nine non-redirect articles created. When I create a new article, I try to have it listed on the main page, at Did you know? I've also created several articles on Fijian Wikipedia. I write articles on plants, animals, and locations in the Pacific region and notable deceased Americans. I intend to continue a similar pattern of editing. I've started more than 1,000 articles (some with a very large readership) and contributed (mostly somewhat longer contributions) in several thousand others. I've written a number biographies of artists, some of which are still alive and have given me permission through OTRS to photograph their works and put them in the Commons. I've also written a number of articles about the early Renaissance in Italy. For most of these articles I had the pleasure to rely on the then-called Grove Dictionary of Art at my local library. 63. Evangeline (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I am a Wikipedia contributor since 2004 and interested in access to the OUP's scholarly resources. I live outside the UK and much of the year in a remote area where access to anything but online resources is difficult (one reason I love Wikipedia, and try to contribute as much as I can). I am interested in many, many things, and would not like to have to narrow it down. This is why the OUP collection would be so valuable, as I could add useful, up-to-date, accurate information to many different articles if I had better access to it. My areas of special interest are early China, ancient and medieval Europe, onomastics, and in general, literature, history and poetry, especially of China, France, Germany and the British Isles. I care a lot about making articles as accurate, well-referenced and correctly written as possible. Access to the Journals would help the most; if possible, the Scholarship stream as well. Right now, I'm working on an overhaul of the Romulus and Remus article. I am a practicing attorney. I have high research and citing skills. I get frustrated often when I cannot access specific resources that I have located on line while editing. I'm also a very good proofreader and writer. @InformationvsInjustice: Would you mind providing some information on what you will use the law stream for? Its a very limited resource. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 14:23, 11 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Cameron11598: Sure. For example, right now I am trying to re-work the Romulus and Remus article as part of my involvement with the Classical Greece and Rome project. This article is in desperate need of adequate sourcing. I have (through access to the Loeb Classical Library) sufficient primary sources to do the job. What I need is reliable, peer-reviewed scholarship on the myth and it's evolution and role in Roman life. That is where I could really use access to the OUP Journals. Among the articles of interest to the CGR project (and me), a significant number of them are in desperate need of contemporary scholarly sources. OUP Scholarship similarly would be useful. It has content on many of the project's topics of interest. I do have a J.D. and would be able to make use of OUP Law as well, although I am not currently undertaking any projects that would utilize it.Informata ob Iniquitatum (talk) 00:21, 12 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I am specifically interested in the Dictionary of Caribbean and Afro-Latin American biography, as most of my work is on women and minorities and the sorely neglected area of the Caribbean for Wikipedia. As you can see from my contributions, I have created over 700 articles, most start class or better, have participated in bringing 15 articles to GA and have over 25,000 edits in the 3+ years I have been working on Wikipedia. I would like to use The New Grove Dictionary of Musical Instruments which is apparently included in this database, at least in part. The reason is that I started a project called "Wiki Loves Music" aimed at improving the quality of articles about musical instruments on German Wikipedia. Other language versions are profiting as well, especially through our image partnerships. You can find more out about the first results of this initiative here. In June, we will host an editathon in Hamburg, Germany, where having access to this database would also be very valuable. Thanks, --Gnom (talk) 10:52, 11 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
