Referencing errors on Jordi Puntí[edit]

Reference help requested.

Hi! As part of the ongoing WP:GOCE September copyedit drive, I performed some copyedits on the article Jordi Puntí. Unfortunately, when I converted a bare URL reference to a cite web template reference, an error occurred and I have not been able to resolve the error.

I would appreciate the help of more experienced errors to (a) resolve this error, and (b) explain to me how I should resolve or avoid this type of error.

The problem, as indicated in the help link for the error, is that the URL has spaces. I'm not sure if removing the spaces will affect the URL, but in a test I did without the spaces it seemed to still work. MB 01:04, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) @Laatu: The error has a "help" link to Help:CS1 errors#bad url which says: "The URL field is checked to ensure that it contains only Latin characters and does not contain spaces." Your edit contains spaces in: |url= http://traces.uab.cat/search?ln=ca&sc=1&p=Punt%C3%AD%2C+Jordi&f=author Jordi Puntí at Traces|title=Search Result. The actual url ends at f=author. Text not showing up[edit]

In our .il article, there's a piece of code reading

Israel is still in the process of getting an [[internationalized country code top-level domain|internationalized top-level domain]], '''<code dir="rtl">'''{{lang|he|.ישראל}}'''</code>'''‎.

However, it appears as

Israel is still in the process of getting an internationalized top-level domain, .ישראל‎.

My browser recognises the <code dir> box as text (the cursor changes to something like File:Wolf Lambert cursor.png when I mouse over it; it's no longer a normal pointer), and when I copy/paste the contents into another file, I see the Hebrew letters, but the box itself is blank. Any idea what's going on? It's not merely that a normal font is unsupported, because I can see normal renditions of Hebrew characters without problem, whether at he:.il or on en:wp pages. I see Hebrew letters in all cases. <code>...</code> tells your browser to display the text in a monospace font. Your monospace font apparently doesn't support Hebrew letters, at least when they are bold.

code tags with bold: .ישראל

code tags without bold: .ישראל

No code tags, but bold: .ישראל

No code tags, no bold: .ישראל

Me too. Note that mine also has directional markers indicating that the text is RTL. With just one of those two markers, we get .ישראל, which is visible. With the other one, we get .ישראל‎, which is not. The browser is Internet Explorer 11. Is there a functional purpose to specifying <code dir="rtl"> when the text is encased in an RTL-indicating template? Nyttend (talk) 11:31, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

upload image file from ta.wikipedia.org to en.wikipedia.org[edit]

I write articles on old Tamil films in the English Wikipedia. Sometimes I find an image in the Tamil language Wikipedia that I could use for my article. However, if I give the file URL in the image in infobox, the image is not shown. A case in point is my article Doctor Savithri. There is an image in Tamil Wikipedia at https://ta.wikipedia.org/s/3vop But, when I give this URL, the image is not shown. Please help me how I could use the image. @Uksharma3: A wiki can only display files which have been uploaded to either Wikimedia Commons or the wiki itself. The image at https://ta.wikipedia.org/s/3vop is copyrighted so it was uploaded to the Tamil Wikipedia with a fair-use rationale. That is correct for a movie poster. Commons does not allow fair-use images so you have to download it to your computer and then upload it here at the English Wikipedia with a fair-use rationale, and only use it in the article about the film. Start with the "Upload file" link under "Tools" in the left pane. Click "Click here to start the Upload Wizard", choose "This is a copyrighted, non-free work, but I believe it is Fair Use", then "This is the official cover art of a work", then "Movie poster" in the top drop-down box. You also have to do other things before the "Upload" button becomes clickable. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:09, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Murder of Milly Dowler - Dispute resolution possible?[edit]

In July I was involved in a talk page discussion regarding an edit dispute on Murder of Milly Dowler, with editors Chaheel Riens, David J Johnson and Sport and politics. When I failed to reach common ground with the latter two users, the latter proposed to take the dispute to WP:DRN. All four of us supported the proposal, but the dispute was never taken to DRN. I read on DRN that recent disputes may be taken there, so since the discussion is old, does that mean it is no longer eligible? And if it is, am I allowed to take it there? Linguist 111 ^Moi? write protection[edit]

until recently the article on The Citadel had some kind of write protection but not even sure exactly what type, this was due to long standing vandalism by a VMI grad with the username of 'stargzr'. He has continued to make false and inaccurate edits that I am forced to revert so it would seem that some kind of protection is necessary that only allows certain people like myself to edit the page.Bob80q (talk) 03:42, 13 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Bob80q, I have analyzed the edits of the user Strgzr1 on the article The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina and they seem to be quite in line with how normal editors discuss, revert/undo other editors' contributions and reach a consensus after discussions. You should go through some of our important policies called pillars, especially those on verifiability. This will help you in understanding why some of your edits are being reverted by the user you mention. If, after following Wikipedia's policies on editing, you still have disputes with the editor, go through our policy on how to resolve editing disputes here: Dispute resolution. While I am not commenting on the edits, I would suggest you also read up on edit warring and 3RR. I don't think you will get a one-sided article protection done which allows you to edit and the other person not to. Come back for any further guidance. Lourdes 05:02, 13 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

stargzr is deliberately posting inaccurate information and comments that are knowlngly misleading and does not offer verification. This person is well known to me as he ... has carried on a campaign of disinformation and slander for quite some time, I invite you to see comments he has made on a website called United States of America Service Academy Forums, he uses several aliases including NAS and Repatriot. Also look carefully at the talk page for The Citadel article and you will see a long history of anonymous snarkey and insulting remarks that also include false claims, many of the comments are verbatim from the other website. I have worked for more than 7 years to maintain a professional and accurate article and will not allow some disturbed person with an agenda to carry on his sick game; trust me, this will not end until he is taken out of the loop.Bob80q (talk) 21:24, 13 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Movement of forearm to human forearm[edit]

You need to be 'autoconfirmed' in order to do a move, which requires your account have existed for 4 days and have made 10 edits. However, unless there is another article on forearm that needs to be distinguished from the existing article there is no need to rename it in this manner and that is not our standard form for disambiguation which would be forearm (human). @Hagar and RJFJR: I would say that this move, partially for reasons you said, would be "potentially controversial" and thus require a requested move on the article talk page, which is something you don't need to be autoconfirmed (or even have an account) to start.
