INCORRECT IDENTIFICATION PICTURES OF THE INVENTOR OF THE ELECTRIC CIGARETTE, HERBERT A. GILBERT THE PATENT DRAWINGS ARE CORRECT THE PICTURES ARE NOT.[edit]

I AM THE HERBERT A. GILBERT WHO INVENTED AND PATENTED THE ELECTRIC CIGARETTE. THE PATENT WAS ISSUED TO ME IN 1965. I AM STILL ALIVE AND SHOWING PICTURES OF MY PATENT DRAWING ALONG WITH TWO OR THREE PHOTOGRAPHS OF OTHER PEOPLE, SOME OF WHOM ARE DEAD, IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. I HAVE TRIED TO GET THIS CORRECTED AND NOTHING HAS CHANGED. EITHER SHOW PICTURES OF MY PATENT WITH NO PICTURES OR SHOW PICTURES OF MY PATENT DRAWING WITH A PICTURE OF ME. IF THIS CANNOT BE ACCOMPLISHED, PLEASE REMOVE THE PICTURES OF MY PATENT DRAWINGS. DO YOU WISH ME TO PROVIDE A CURRENT PHOTOGRAPH AND IF SO PLEASE GIVE ME INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW I CAN ACCOMPLISH THIS. THANK YOU.76.109.132.2 (talk) 00:00, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

First, PLEASE STOP SHOUTING. Thank you. Second, what article are you referring too? Electronic cigarette does not have any picture of inventors, or patent drawing for that matter. The only Herbert Gilbert article is an Australian rugby player, who does not appear to be you. Rwessel (talk) 00:18, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I have also been unable to find the page you refer to. Electronic cigarette mentions your patent but the image you describe is not there or in commons:Category:Electronic cigarettes. Please post a link to the page or image. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:35, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I ASSUME PUBLISHED PICTURES OF ME, AND THE STORY CREDITING ME WITH SAVING MILLIONS OF LIVES, WILL BE ACCEPTABLE TO YOU. I WILL BE HAPPY TO EMAIL THIS TO YOU. We're always happy to have new editors who can make positive contributions. Please consider registering for an account. It's not required, but established editors tend to take registered users' work more seriously. I say this because most of us (myself included) made mistakes in the beginning. Broken wikicode on User:Wing gundam[edit]

Hey all, why is my user page broken?? When I expand my UserBox Box, the section headers don't move, and end up nastily covering most of the content. I've seen it UserBoxBoxes work before, and I copied the code exactly as written! What am I doing wrong?

Thanks! —wing gundam 08:08, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, they're hosted on User:wing gundam/UBX. But they still appear broken on that page. —wing gundam 08:10, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

On a hunch I've added a {{clear}} between each group of userboxes, and that seems to have worked. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:50, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

false information[edit]

Kurdistan

Related map(File:Kashgari map.jpg) is used as a prove for false information .Following information is fabricated in this page below map(Kurdistan) :

"showing Arḍ al-Akrād Arabic for land of Kurds located between Arḍ al-Šām (Syria), and Arḍ al-ʿIrāqayn (Iraq Arabi and Iraq Ajami)."

This map doesnt contain any information regarding any ethnic population "kurd/kurdistan" this is the original and only official source of this map:"http://www.hgk.msb.gov.tr/ustbanner/turk/kasgarlimahmud.htm"

Also rest of the maps are false without any appropriate source.

The entire content of this page are illegal and incorrect therefore its fabricated. There was no state of kurdistan in entire world history. The entire document is for the political propaganda for terrorist organization of PKK (well known by the us government)

Please remove this entire document from your server/s.

Thank you . — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.192.67.162 (talk) 09:06, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Can you explain why you consider one map "official" and the other not?
You say the entire content of the page is illegal. What law, of what country, do you believe is broken?
The map to which you object is several hundred years old, it cannot be the work of the PKK. Maproom (talk) 11:38, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The question is not about the presence or absence of an article. It is about some content not being included in the article about the subject. The article is located here. If anyone came up with a reliable source about this musical in London during the '90s and is notable enough, please add it per IP's request. 77.249.194.94 (no offense) please feel free to add it yourself if you think it needs to be included per Wikipedia's notability guideline and you have a good source for citing. Wrong image for " 2013 Luxor hot air balloon crash "[edit]

The image shown in the top of the article is not for the same balloon The balloon that crashed is SU-283 and this is a photo for it that shows the registration number perfectly http://cdn-www.airliners.net/aviation-photos/photos/0/7/0/1673070.jpg

And the image in the article doesn't have any color match balloon with the one in the photo So please change the photo

Link of the article : 2013 Luxor hot air balloon crash — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.55.159.208 (talk) 11:53, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately the terms of use of airliners.net (point 4. is what matters here) is incompatible with a use on Wikipedia. The image here could only be used under a fair use claim and would need to satisfy our non-free content policy. I would argue that this use would not satisfy point 8 of the non-free content policy, so it cannot be used. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 12:08, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes this is the right balloon but i recommend to use this image http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/Dazbo5/IMG_0315_zps51f6381c.jpg
Because it shows the registration number clearly — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.55.23.164 (talk) 16:17, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
We cannot use that image unless we can confirm that it is licensed appropriately.--ukexpat (talk) 16:47, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I emailed the rights holder of a better image here. If we suck up and give them a category in commons then we may be able to get use of more of their images. The site itself may be worthy of an article if it doesn't have one already. I cropped and brightened the image we do have of the correct balloon for now.--Canoe1967 (talk) 17:18, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think there is an established process to address your exact situation (I doubt articles for creation or Teahouse is the place for you considering your experience, and peer review is for "live" articles). Your best bet would be to try at a related Wikiproject. If that doesn't work, you could try to find some editors who have written or significantly contributed to similar articles and ask for their help. Chamal TC 14:52, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

How do I disable donation message keeping cookies disabled[edit]

Since cookies on my browser are disabled, wikipedia shows a big message seeking donation on the top of every wikipedia page I visit. This is quite harassing. Is it a good policy to show that message to each and every user? Yes, it is. May be that you make that message permanent but shorter and less catchy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.197.248.40 (talk) 14:56, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you create an account you can turn it off. See Wikipedia:Why create an account? for advantages of having an account. If you create an account and login then you can go to the preferences tab and under 'gadgets' (in the broswer section) there is a check box you can check to suppress the donations message. IMDb Plagiarizing Your Movie Plot or Vice Versa[edit]

Hi, I didn't really come here to ask a question, but can't find anywhere else to click to report a possible fraud.

Your Plot for the movie "The Master" is EXACTLY THE SAME as the Synopsis of the same movie at IMDb. Either your contributory writer has plagiarized the writer's synopsis of "The Master" at IMDb - or the writer at IMDb is plagiarizing your plot. I tried to look for any indication that your source was from IMDb, but couldn't find any (maybe I missed it?); didn't see any indication in the IMDb website either that their source was taken from Wikipedia.

You need to check on this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 112.204.130.41 (talk) 15:39, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at the page history and the apparent time of the synopsis on IMDb, it'd appear both appeared at around the same time. So yes, it could be IMDb copying from Wikipedia, or it could be Wikipedia copying from IMDb, or it could be the same author posting on both. Scanning over the history did not lead me to any conclusions. Kinkreet~♥moshi moshi♥~ 17:54, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Which article exactly in Wikipedia (there are several for "The Master" and the 2012 film does not appear to be it)? —[AlanM1(talk)]— 20:30, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I am vchimpanzee on both Wikipedia and imdb. I have posted nearly identical plot summaries on both sites several times. However, each site has its own requirements. imdb discourages spoilers but will permit them with a warning, and if I posted a plot summary it was part of a user review that I submitted since imdb apparently had little information about the movie. If that was the case I wouldn't want to deprive someone by posting a spoiler. Here, spoilers are almost necessary, but opinions are not permitted. I hope I haven't done anything wrong.— Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 21:49, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I'm trying to upload an updated version of the logo for the Australian Open tennis tournament.

The current file is Australian_Open_logo.svg. The updated version is a jpeg file. When I select "Upload a new version of this file", click the "Choose file" button and select the new logo an error message appears: "File extension ".svg" does not match the detected MIME type of the file (image/jpeg)." and it will not allow the update. Any advice on how to proceed?--Wolbo (talk) 15:45, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If the logo is outdated in the article it should be replaced. If .jpg is the easiest then just upload that one as a new file and have the other one speedy deleted.--Canoe1967 (talk) 16:12, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Why delete? Just rename the old version. It might still be usefull. Nevermind, non-free media due to logo. Taketa (talk) 17:45, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Climate change in Kiribati[edit]

Hi! I joined up today and want to create article Climate change in Kiribati or something like that. Can I receive the help of some user who handles English better and wants to help me make the article? And my second question is, I want to make a beautiful userpage, where can I find the flag of Kiribati to put it waving on my user page? Thank you and May God Bless You! — Preceding unsigned comment added by I Kiribati Islander (talkcontribs) 17:53, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please use the articles for creation process so that you can create a draft and have it reviewed by other users.--ukexpat (talk) 17:58, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
For a flag, you can use the {{flag}} or {{Flagicon}} templates. For example, {{flag|Kiribati|size=32px}} Kiribati  -and-  {{flagicon|Kiribati|size=64px}}Kiribati
However, for a "waving" flag, you'll need to find or upload an animated GIF.

Mission statements[edit]

I do not see guidance on whether Mission statements are considered appropriate for an article about a company. Does anyone know if this is covered by policy or guideline?

I see suggestions that they are not desired for schools, and this is on point, but not real definitive.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 19:18, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

To my mind they are a form of promotion, so unacceptable window dressing for companies and schools (whose missions really are to make money for shareholders and to educate people, respectively), but probably OK for non-profits and charities who usually do have a specific target.--ukexpat (talk) 04:21, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Don't know that there's a consensus, but they are useless jingoistic crap that doesn't belong in an article about a company.—Kww(talk) 04:31, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Stan Bowles and Brian Brendan Wright[edit]

Hope you are the right people to contact re this. I have posted on Wikipedia under the name rushcrew, on two of your reports. Stan Bowles and Brian Brendan Wright. In both cases I was trying to correct errors. Each time I posted I was told I was wrong by my " overlord " C. Fred. This was done in a very ignorant way and even when I provided book references I was told I was wrong, or worse made to feel inferior, and ignored. I suggest someone looks at the points I made and get back. I am a pensioner and am not used to being treated this way. I know both of the above personally and I was trying to make Wikipedia more factually correct, Thank you for your time in reading this. If you are not the right department could you forward this to the right deparment. Thanks in advance. Peter Brockbank — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rushcrew (talkcontribs) 19:53, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry you felt C. Fred was making you wrong. I do not know anything about the subject, but looking at the edits to Stan Bowles it appears to me that he or she was quite right. I understand that you inserted information from your personal knowledge, but the problem for Wikipedia is that a reader now or in the future must be able to verify the information if they wish; otherwise they have no way of telling what is reliable. If you can find a book or newspaper that contains the information, you are welcome to add it, with a proper citation; but C. Fred was right to remove information that you inserted citing only your own knowledge. Sorry. --ColinFine (talk) 20:32, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Copying existing usage can work well once you understand the basics of wiki language and editing as described in the links above. Find an existing article with the feature you want and click on the View Source or Edit tab (taking care not to save any edits accidentally). Then search through the edit window for words near the feature you want to use to find the code that produces it.
For example, if you were looking at Talk:Istanbul#Infobox image, and wanted to know how to produce the collapsible green box that is titled "Infobox image options, at 250px width", you would go to that page and click on the Edit tab at the top (or, better yet, the [Edit] link on the right side of that section). Then, use your browser to search for "Infobox image options, at 250px width" in the edit window. You'll find this line:
{{cot|title=Infobox image options, at 250px width}}
followed by a {{Gallery}} and a {{cob}}. The {{cot}} and {{cob}} produce the collapsible box and the {{Gallery}} organizes the images within it. You can look at the pages for those templates (i.e. at Template:cot (actually a redirect to Template:Collapse top)) for documentation on using them. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 23:32, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect, based on your question, that you found one of our over 4 million articles and thought we were affiliated in some way with that subject. Please note that you are at Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is for asking questions related to using or contributing to Wikipedia itself. Thus, we have no special knowledge about the subject of your question. You can, however, search our vast catalogue of articles by typing a subject into the search field on the upper right side of your screen. If you cannot find what you are looking for, we have a reference desk, divided into various subject areas, where asking knowledge questions is welcome. Best of luck.
