December 8[edit]

Clearing a cite error message.[edit]

I have been working on a page 'Balinese Textiles'. Noe I have a cite error message.

I have followed the instructions in the help desk to put ==References== {{Reflist}} but the message still appears. Am I missing something? Chris Hazzard (talk) 00:23, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed it on the page. You were missing </gallery> CTF83! 01:00, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Editing Silurian page[edit]

I'm in a class and I have to Update a Wiki page and I choose Silurian. I'm having issues with getting citations to work within the edit. I have a word document and my sandbox pageUser:Boyd7854/sandbox if anyone would like to help.

This is a add-on to the climate and sea level part. Boyd7854 (talk) 04:50, 8 December 2012 (UTC)Boyd7854[reply]

Have you read Referencing for Beginners? If not, it should help you get on the right track. RudolfRed (talk) 04:19, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There is still a couple issues. Haven't been able to add multiple sources. As well as the in the references tab it would only say the ref name instead of the actual citation. Boyd7854 (talk) 04:50, 8 December 2012 (UTC)Boyd7854[reply]
You haven't used any ref tags that I can see. You need to put your references into <ref> </ref> tags and not brackets like [7]. The wikicode will put in the footnote numbers for you. RudolfRed (talk) 05:08, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
To elaborate a little, you need to put all your sources inside ref tags where you want the footnote to go, and then at the end use {{Reflist}} and it will generate the reference list. RudolfRed (talk) 05:15, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It is working better though I'm getting duplicate sources down below.. (not including the references page keeping those for easy copy and paste. when I add figures which looks even more of a pain) Boyd7854 (talk) 06:20, 8 December 2012 (UTC)Boyd7854[reply]
I worked on your sandbox and left you a message there. Not quite sure how you get a sandbox and no user page though. John of Cromer in China (talk) mytime= Sat 22:09, wikitime= 14:09, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Johnmperry. I just didn't set up the user page yet. Boyd7854 (talk) 18:16, 8 December 2012 (UTC)Boyd7854[reply]

Emailing a page[edit]

how do i email a page to someone ? tks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.156.84.205 (talk) 04:31, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to mail a copy of the article as an attachment you can use the "Print/export" function in the menu on the left of the page to create a PDF document, alternatively you can simply copy the page url from your browser address. Roger (talk) 08:13, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with (sandbox) relative linking?[edit]

I have two subpages below my sand box, /a and /b. I can get to /b from /a by writing {{../b|params..}} but when I try to transclude /a from my sandbox, as {{/a|params..}} it then tries to access b as user/b not user/sandbox/b

Or am I doing something wrong? Alternatively, is there an easy way of removing [ and ] from a string, i.e. "unlinking", which is what I really want to do? John of Cromer in China (talk) mytime= Sat 14:21, wikitime= 06:21, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Subpage links are evaluated in the context of the page being rendered, not the page on which the link was keyed. So you will have to use the full page name when transcluding those subpages, and not use the ".." abbreviation.
I don't know how to remove characters from a string, but I do know that string handling is notoriously inefficient here. I recommend that you undo your changes to the Runway article, and instead create a separate template containing a "#switch" statement that outputs the exact text you want. Then the article text will be easy for other editors to understand, and the template coding will be much simpler as well. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:41, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a guideline on religion?[edit]

Is there a wp guideline that says that wp:notability is determined through adherents statistics? I'm asking coz an editor contantly uses this excuse when deleting mention of some religions. (diff), (diff]), (diff). Pass a Method talk 07:58, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Notability depends on the existence of acceptable sources - Period. Roger (talk) 08:16, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You linked to wp:notability which is about having its own article. None of your diffs are about that. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:20, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Good work for bolding editing those pages, however, as in that process, someone reverted your edits. That is fine as well, it simply prompts a discussion to take place on the appropriate talk page of that article before reintroducing that idea/concept. Tiggerjay (talk) 21:17, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback request[edit]

Could someone please roll back an IP editor's recent edits to determination of the day of the week? Pokajanje|Talk 19:06, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There are several different IPs that have edited that article recently. Can you be more specific about the edits you're concerned about? And why not just undo the edit yourself? RudolfRed (talk) 20:03, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Also, this appears to be a content dispute; why not discuss changes on the article's talk page? Keri (talk) 20:30, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

closing an AfD I opened[edit]

Resolved

I would like to close an AfD discussion that I opened. At this time the only other editor has voted Keep and he's convinced me. The AfD is at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Levon Pashabezyan. I'd appreciate any help or instructions you can give me. Papaursa (talk) 22:42, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You can withdraw your nomination and see WP:KEEP Tiggerjay (talk) 06:17, 9 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
