FW: Admin that published 2010 Commonwealth Games ITN blurb

Hi Tinucherian, you may wish to take note of my posting on User talk:TFOWR here. Please do not get offended however, I am not suggesting ill intentions in any way. Best, ANGCHENRUI Talk 15:14, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

I propose we stick to the proposed blurb on Wikipedia:In the news/Candidates#2010 Commonwealth Games as far as possible. Consensus as far as I can see lies with that one. Thanks, ANGCHENRUI Talk 15:17, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for bringing them to my notice. I have responded here and here -- Tinu Cherian - 16:05, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

On a separate note, think you should make the accreditation of ITN contributors more clear. Wait — there's no need to edit my user talkpage now, I'm not that bothered with ITN credits. Anyway, you should really create a separate section when giving the credits in the future, that's my suggestion. In my case, it was mixed-up with a section discussing DYK matters. Best regards, ANGCHENRUI Talk 15:59, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Excuse me sir, I don't usually miss giving credits ( eg an example, just a few days ago) ) . I didnt add a new section because the ongoing discussion on your talk page was related. For your information, I have indeed added a new section in the given example. After my edit on ITN , my internet connection dropped and I was busy watching the CWG on TV. Please note that we work from countries where internet connections are still not great compared to many of the "fortunate" countries. My internet connection was up again later.. I came back to give you the credit and your discussion came to my notice. Hope that clarifies -- Tinu Cherian - 16:13, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
Okay, just to address the reply you gave directly above: there might be a misunderstanding here. I empathise with your condition. However, I'm not saying you forgot to give the credits. Rather, I'm saying the credits you gave should not have been mixed up with another dissimilar part of the user talkpage. A separate section should be created with the 'credits' template pasted; not placed under an existing section where an unrelated discussion is ongoing. I'm not 100% bent on having things done this way, but rather giving a suggestion in earnest and explaining in a couple of sentences so things can be 100% clarified. ANGCHENRUI Talk 09:03, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
Lengthy comments from ANGCHENRUI Talk 07:25, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
Let me explain my take on the blurb matter. First, the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium or any stadium was never mentioned in the ITN discussion. I would have accepted if a different stadium was mentioned since it would have been a minor tweak after all; the problem is that the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium article is poorly written and is of unsatisfactory standards. I take it you agree that the article's standard is lacking. It fails to meet one of the most prominent criteria of ITN; the article linked must be of acceptable standard. So including it in the posted blurb is a no-no. Second, an ITN nomination is the sum total of the main article and the blurb. If the main blurb is accepted without any opposition, the posting admin should do well to state beforehand that the posted blurb would be different from the proposed blurb. If it was the difference was only in a few words or so, fine. But the posted blurb came out half-different from the one proposed. (Btw, no intention of disparaging any ethnicity or any country here; I detest discrimination). The reason I alerted TFOWR was that I wanted the posting suspended till the issues could be addressed. Especially the glaring grammatical mistakes. That's all I have to say. I'm really hoping to settle this in as few steps and in as short a time as possible. Looking forward to your comments, ANGCHENRUI Talk 09:18, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
Addition: In the discussion of the ITN nomination, someone raised that the controversies should be stated. Besides, it was already written in the proposed blurb. So was there consensus for excluding the controversies? . I'm afraid not. I was okay with the proposed blurb being published as it stood; but if the blurb was to be changed significantly → definitely need to discuss more. ANGCHENRUI Talk 09:24, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Finally, there a few other unaddressed issues in this incident, but they don't bother me not in the least and I'm not nitpicking. We can keep the current blurb as it is. What I wish to bring across, in summary, is that more unequivocal actions should have been done that day. With regards, ANGCHENRUI Talk 09:36, 4 October 2010 (UTC) (pass me a {{Talkback}} if you want a reply soon)

I have already clarified about what had happened. Admins are NOT God sent special people. They are editors like you and others. I don't think any more discussion on this is productive for either you or me. Time to move on .. Have a good day -- Tinu Cherian - 11:20, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I think I was too demanding here, but you do get my point right? Not the one on accreditation. Thanks, ANGCHENRUI Talk 15:16, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

Can you adapt me?

Hallo Tinucherian, This is user mcbapu, a Dubai based Indian, Engineer by profession with deep interest in Rajput History. I seek adoption from some senior wikipedian like you. You are at admin level so will get enough support and guidance to learn for good wiki use. I have been advised by one of Admin Dougtalk contrib. to seek adoption. Going through available adopter list, I could sort out you as most suitable among list. User account (1) mcbaputalk contribution + user account (2) bhaiyaji2talk contribution

Thanks for dropping a note on my talk page. While I am always open to answer any questions asked on my talk page, I am not sure whether I can help you with a full time adoption. I request you to approach some other Wikipedian for the adoption. Having said that , feel free to drop a message on my talk page for any clarifications, doubts or issues. Have a great weekend ! -- Tinu Cherian - 11:27, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject India banner

It would be great if you could use the banneer "WikiProject India" on your bot's tagging. That is where the banner sits now: {{WikiProject India}} and all but one of the 600 odd projects can be bannered with "WikiProject <project name>". Keep up the good work! Rich Farmbrough, 18:59, 5 October 2010 (UTC).

Thanks buddy... Just to clarify, did you mean that I should change {{WP India}} ( and other redirects) to {{WikiProject India}} to the existing banners or only hereafter? .. -- Tinu Cherian - 11:22, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
Only hereafter. I change them on pages I edit, and would support anyone who does that, but I have no plans for a special outing, and would guess that would meet with opposition. Rich Farmbrough, 11:40, 8 October 2010 (UTC).

An update from adopt a user

Hi there Tinucherian/Archives/2010! You may be wondering, what have I done to sound the alarm this time? Nothing. I'm messaging you in regards to the adopt-a-user program, which currently has a backlog of users wishing to be adopted. This doesn't make much sense, as we have a considerable list of users offer adoption, so there shouldn't be any backlog. I've begun to eliminate this backlog myself through a matching program, but I need your help to make it work. Of course, adoptees and adopters don't have to go through there, but I believe it helps eliminate the backlog because someone is actively matching pairs.

On the list of adopters, I have modified the middle column to say "Interests." It's easier working with other users that have similar interests, so if it's not too much to ask, could you add your interests in the middle column? For example, if I was interested in hurricanes, computers, business, and ... reptiles? I would place those in the middle column. Counter-vandalism and the like can also be included (maintenance should be used as the general term). The more interests, the better, since adoptees can learn more about you and choose the one they feel most comfortable working with. The information about when you're most active and other stuff can go into the "Notes" section to the right.

Finally, I've gone around and asked adoptees (and will in the future) to fill in a short survey so adopters can take the initiative and contact users they feel comfortable working with. We all know that most adoptees just place the adopt me template on their user page and leave it - so it's up to us to approach them and offer adoption. So, please take a look at the survey, adopt those that fit your interests, and maybe watchlist it so you can see the interests of adoptees and adopt one that fits your interests in the future.

Once again, thank you for participating in the adopt-a-user program! If you wish to respond to this post, please message me on my talk page.

You are welcome. I saw the article was subject to serious vandalism on recent days. Please do keep a watch on the page -- Tinu Cherian - 02:16, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi Tinucherian, there seems to be a shortage of writers for the "In the news" section of the upcoming issue, and since you signed up as backup for that section and already tweeted about the Indian express article, would you mind writing up a short summary of it? Including the gist of the comments by the interviewed Wikipedians, but leaving details to the original article.

The above only applies if it happens to reach you in time (i.e. before the issue is published, or someone else writes this item up), but in general, if you discover interesting media coverage of Wikipedia/Wikimedia, feel free to write such a note for the Signpost's "In the news". Thanks!

Regards, HaeB (talk) 22:48, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

I think I am just in time.. Will work on it -- Tinu Cherian - 05:29, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks! However, we need to get this issue out in the next few hours (it carries today's date, so it should be published well before midnight UTC). As noted in the newsroom, I might drop the "In the news" secton from this issue altogether since no work has been done on it yet. In that case, there might still be a chance to cover the Indian Express article in the next issue. Regards, HaeB (talk) 19:19, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

Assessment of Importance in Nair Article

Wish you a good day Mr.Tinu,

This message is regarding the Nair article. From 2004 onwards Nair community is actively discussing and adding important contents which varies from ancient history to modern approaches. Also many disputed points had been discussed with references of books and learned historians. At this point of time a suggestion from another user came up to proceed forward a quality assessment and importance scale assessment. As the discussion of Nair page is exceeding 12 archives, I feel it would be appropriate to give top importance tag to the article so that we can improve the quality of the article to A class. I may humbly request you to assess the article and its talk page.

Thanking you,

Vekramaditya (talk · contribs)

Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I have replied here -- Tinu Cherian - 07:03, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
