WikiCup 2010 June newsletter
We're half way through 2010, and the end of the WikiCup is in sight! Round 3 is over, and we're down to our final 16. Our pool winners were 
Ian Rose (submissions) (A), 
Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) (B, and the round's overall leader), 
ThinkBlue (submissions) (C) 
Casliber (submissions) and 
TonyTheTiger (submissions) (D, joint), but, with the scores reset, everything is to play for in our last pooled round. The pools will be up before midnight tonight, and have been selected randomly by J Milburn. This will be the toughest round yet, and so, as ever, anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.
Though unaffiliated with the WikiCup, July sees the third Great Wikipedia Dramaout- a project with not dissimilar goals to the WikiCup. Everyone is welcome to take part and do their bit to contribute to the encyclopedia itself.

Your View Pls - State Highway 134 (TamilNadu)

I have just created a article for the State Highway SH-134. Also i'm planning to create such articles for few State Highways in Tamilnadu in similar pattern. Our fellow Wikipedian - User:Sodabottle has directed me to approach you for creating articles on Indian Roads. He raised concerns about Notability & Established Standards of the State Highways. Being an Experienced person in WP:Indian Roads i request you to provide ur comments / feedback on the topic. - IMHO, State Highways are inherently notable. See related notability on Interstate, U.S. and Primary state highways. Having said that, We havent had established criterias of notability of Indian roads yet. However, that does not mean an article about them will fail or automatcally pass wikipedia notability guidelines and hence each article should establish its own notability. So create one by one , with relavent and as much as information & references , so that it will avoid a deletion request. If you don't have enough information of making the article atleast of start/C class quality, better not to create them. I am also bringing the attention of User:Naveenpf, User:Koolkrazy and User:Logicwiki to this discussion for more expert views -- Tinu Cherian - 05:38, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

Welcome your effort to create SH articles for Tamil Nadu. Welcome to WP:INR :) I am not exactly sure about notability in Indian context since we suffer from lack of verifiable references from time to time. In this case also it holds good.But my personal opinion is all state highways connecting towns are notable.Try pulling out some sources from TN website if you can find any and add them to references.You could be descriptive about the route like this article and also link other related articles to the road.Ex:- The road services Pepsi factory located at abcd. That will make the article more informative and make it up to start class from stub info with just the names of places it connects. We at WP:INR have not focussed on State Highways since our National Highways themselves are not in shape and hence there is no discussion about SH. Srikanth (Logic) 07:01, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

- Hi Srikanth & Tinucherian! Thanks for participating n the discussion. Tinucherian, i understand the notability of the State Highways. But still creating article with reliable 3rd party references is the most difficult part.Because the media coverage (Major Newspapers) of state highways is very very less. Even in Tamilnadu's govt website & district website also the coverage is very less.But still i can promise to create article which can meet quality standards for start & C class article. But going by the words of Srikanth the focus on state highways is less where our NH itself is incomplete. We say goodbye to the six who fell at the final hurdle. 
Geschichte (submissions) only just missed out on a place in the final eight. 
Resolute (submissions) was not far behind. 
Candlewicke (submissions) was awarded top points for in the news this round. 
Gary King (submissions) contributed a variety of did you know articles. 
Suomi Finland 2009 (submissions) said "I'm surprised to have survived so far into the competition", but was extactic to see Finland in the semi-finals. 
Arsenikk (submissions) did not score this round, but has scored highly in previous rounds. We also say goodbye to Ian Rose (submissions), who withdrew earlier this month after spending six weeks overseas. Anyone interested in this round's results can see them here and here. Thank you to Stone (submissions) for these.
Signups for next year's competition are now open. Planning is ongoing, with a key discussion about judges for next year open. Discussion about how next year's scoring will work is ongoing, and thoughts are more than welcome at Wikipedia talk:WikiCup/Scoring. Also, TonyTheTiger is compiling some information and statistics on the finalists here- the final eight are encouraged to add themselves to the list.
Our final eight will play it out for two months, after which we will know 2010's WikiCup winner, and a variety of prizes will be awarded.
