Rahul Raj encounter

The Special Barnstar
For your contributions and support, which helped in retaining an important article Rahul Raj encounter on wikipedia. Manoj nav (talk) 10:23, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi Tinucherian, thank you for your contributions and support. Manoj nav (talk) 10:07, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for the Barnster. This effort apparently gave me lots of satisfaction and I dedicate this Barnster to another good user Gppande (talk · contribs). I came to know about this AFD and the article Rahul Raj when I saw Gppande was blocked for alledged sockpuppetry. With the past interactions and knowing the contributions of Gppande, I wasnt willing to believe why the hell would he ever use a sock Kokar (talk · contribs). First of all, it wasnt the article of Gppande and he had not reason or sentiments to try to save it like this. Secondly , as far as I seen, a sock master votes first and the sock only later, which is not the case her. Thirdly I too edit WP a lot for a shared company networks and i fear to think possibly how many disruptive editors are there in the same networks I use. Gppande was blocked by User:Yellowmonkey, another wiki friend. That is why I left him a msg at User_talk:YellowMonkey#Gppande_block to kindly review the 2 day block ( see also User_talk:Gppande#Kokur ). On inspection of Rahul Raj, it may be a BIO violation but I personally felt the incident as such was worth being in Wiki. That is why I copy-edited Rahul Raj encounter and supported keep in the AFD. Your uploaded image was actually a copy viol picture , that is why I had to request it for Speedy deletion. I also nominated the article for WP:DYK and it was successfully shown in the mainpage as a DYK entry on 1 December 2008 . The AFD was also closed to keep. Through this humble effort of mine, I also request Gppande to dont lose heart , reconsider his decision to leave Wikipedia and to continue his good contributions. -- Tinu Cherian - 05:52, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Hi Tinucherian, thanks a lot for understanding and supporting me through this time. Your words of encouragement have helped me a lot. I have become a victim of WP:COWORKER and learned an important lesson from it. Never, edit WP or any other finance related websites like banks, shares or politically sensitive websites from network which might be used by others. Innocent users can become easy targets - either by accident or by some miscreants. I am not leaving WP or can never do so. My first comment to quit had come out of anger - a knee jerk reaction; sorry for that. Also, I tried to trace Kokar within my organization but have not been able to so due to real life hurdles. I also learned from WP policy that revealing someones identity to prove a point is violation. I do not wish to get into another trouble so I have left it as it is. If Kokar returns, time will prove we are two separate brains. I appreciate your work in saving the Rahul Raj encounter article and even get it promoted to DYK. Something to learn here. Instead of votes, if we think that the article deserves to be on WP, save the article by improving it with as many reliable refs/contents and notable incidents as possible. The day before I was blocked, I did the same with Gothos article and even though I was blocked the AfD resulted in speedy keep. So it does not matter what your vote is. All that matters is your work and contribution to the project. I would definitely continue my contributions but with care and caution from where I am doing so. It is important to protect ourselves first. --GPPande talk! 08:49, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
You have no idea how happy I am to see you back ! Thanks a lot for your kind words,I am humbled. You are absolutely right ! As a wikipedian it is imperative for us to try to save good articles by fixing the issues than merely voting as keep. Please understand that your block was probably an unintentional mistake by YM and it was due to merely coincidental evidences and limited tools available and not a bad report for your contributions to WP. Continue to enjoy your stay in WP and keep up your good contributions. Best wishes -- Tinu Cherian - 09:29, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Hello!!

Hello Tinu,

I am a resident of Chandanapally. The article posted as 'Chandanapally', is not inappropriate! If you check the history of that article, you can see that we created it in 2006. Unfortunately, we didn't have any more informations/photos regarding the church for such a long time. Last month when we had been to India, we could take some snaps and will update it in the article as soon as possible.

Our aim is to make a true exposure to the 'Chandanapally Valiyapally's fame. We saw your article 'St. George Orthodox church' and we appreciate the great effort what you have done. We have taken some detail from your article and posted it in our 'Chandanapally Valiyapally' article. We have also referenced it in our article!

Please understand that we are not posting any inappropriate contents in it, but making 'Chandanapally' searchable in the internet! So I would request you not to revert or redirect to any other articles as we are going to include some more details and snaps.

Thank you very much for your patience and understanding.

Wow! Thanks for the barnstar and for the link to no. of edits! I had no idea that I'd be in the top 2500 as I create large articles in one go and as I have been inactive for a long time. Btw, I noticed that you have over 20k edits but you are not an admin yet; nor could I find an RFA in your name. Is it because you're not interested in becoming an admin? I believe that active editors should become admins. Though I haven't interacted much with you or looked through your contributions, I'm sure there would be lots of people willing to nominate you, pl. do consider it. While I'd successfully nominated two candidates so far for the RFA (Redvers and Ganeshk), this was way back in time, over 30 months back. --Gurubrahma (talk) 07:17, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
Thanks a lot, Guru, for your kind offer. Altough I am regular in 'RFA circles' , I am not yet "ready" for the fire test myself. Infact many kind wikipedians have offered to nominate on and off wiki earlier and I have thankfully declined till now. The main reason is that I am happy doing what I do now. I am looking forward for more content building as of now. Also to get a few GAs and FAs for some personal satisfaction. May be in another 6-9 months, I may re-think of me worthy of being an admin :) .Again, Thanks a lot for your kind words. -- Tinu Cherian - 12:02, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

How did you filter Indian editors from Wikipedia:EDITS

Thanks for Barnstar. This 'most prolific editors from India' is helpful, but just wondering how did you filtered Indian editor from this big list Wikipedia:EDITS. Will it be possible to have column like Active/Inactive as I guess some users are now inactive e.g. User:P.K.Niyogi. Also will it be possible to have another column mentioning prime contribution area, for me its categorization of pages. If such columns are added, users can themselves put info into it. Thanks, Vjdchauhan (talk) 07:56, 7 December 2008 (UTC).

I did it manually but comparing the usernames of declared or known Indians based on my knowledge or from our WT:INB archives pages and Category:Indian Wikipedians with the usernames in WP:EDITS. Ok.I will try to incorporate their active or inactive status , and other contributions like GA,FA, DYKs etc -- Tinu Cherian - 10:43, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Indian edits

I wonder what would happen if you included everybody in that list fairly not just Indians. There are some editors who have worked a lot on India but are not Indian. Count Blofeld 18:22, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

I didnt exactly get your point , But If I understand what you mean, we at Wikipedia_talk:INB#Indian_Wikipedians_by_no_of_edits we are trying to appreciate and encourage the contributors from India and also non-Indians ( see second table) who have contributed to India related content. ( please notice you name is on the top the list already :) ) -- Tinu Cherian - 18:29, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Yep I was kinda wondering as I'm pretty sure I've notched up the edits on India related topics, particularly Bollywood and Indian cinema. I was just interested to see what thats all.

Oh I get!! I thought the list was for number of edits on Indian related articles not overall. Ohhh in that case I wouldn't even have mentioned it. I wanted to know how many edits on Indian pages I'd made, that might be more useful! Count Blofeld 18:36, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

I really dont know how to achieve this result : One method is to make a tool to compare each editors' contributions on articles in Category:WikiProject_India_articles . But we sincerely thank you for your help and contributions to India and Indian cinema related content -- Tinu Cherian - 19:03, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. It was just a thought anyway. Best Count Blofeld 19:06, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

He's back ...

Although not as active as he used to be, and probably won't be for a while yet. Right now, I do think that the new article of the month idea seems to have worked, although such a limited goal is kind of small for as large a group as the Christianity project. Something like the "Contest" unit that WP:MILHIST has might work better, although for it to work optimally we would probably want to be able to allocate points based on importance of the subject within Christianity as well as other criteria. My own very tenative hypothesis would be to start a list of articles which would benefit from the review of people knowledgable about various branches of Christianity to see that all relevant POVs on Baptism for instance are given at least their minimum required space. So maybe allocating points on the basis of final quality of the article/review for inclusion of minority views would be one criteria, and the others being the comparative importance of the subject. This could be determined both on the basis of the article's "Importance" ranking within one or more Christian groups, as well as potentially by its inclusion in any WP:1.0 release editions. The details still need to be worked out, though. I'm hoping to be a bit more active come January, and hope to be able to try to make a concrete proposal then. Hi

Hi, I came across my old talk page today. Please note that I have nothing to do with Jobxavier (See Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Knownot). I used to vandalize the Bajrang Dal and related articles for fun/pov but I have stopped. I am using a new account now, don't sock and don't even touch any India-related articles. Its allowed by policy. I don't vandalize anymore so please don't run anymore checkusers on me (have they already done that?), I don't want to see my account blocked again/previous identity revealed. I'm not Jobaxvier. Thanks

Oh and by the way I'm not "banned" (as you said on the report). It was a 2 week "block" that was lifted by Wknight[1] so I think I'm allowed to continue editing with a clean account..I hope you understand thanks 59.95.115.253 (talk) 13:27, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Vallikunnam

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Vallikunnam, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. I see that you have been tagging the Indian village articles for Prod / Speedy deletion. I see that you are a relatively inexperienced user in Wikipedia and let me try to help you.

First of all, the way you tagged is completely not per convention , with you not giving a suitable reason. I suggest you to kindly read the Wikipedia:SD#Criteria and Wikipedia:Proposed deletion.

On the notability of villages and towns, It is widely accepted that Inhabited places in the world are inherently notable and no article will be deleted on notability as per same. The articles I have created is about the places in India ( missing in WP) which has a population of over 5000 ( the average population is above 15000 ). Moreover the data is backed up by reliable sources from the census data of the government.

The article is started as stub ones with minimum information available from census data like name, district, state, total/male/female population etc. People are likely to people are more likely to expand a stub than start an article means that all the place stubs that would be created will be likely to get expanded in future. And that is why these articles are created.

  • Hi, Please don't get offended by someone, who has nominated your article for deletion. I have added speedy deletion tag in good faith, as article is too short. Request you to improve these articles and don't add articles just to improve your edit count. If that tag is misapplied to your article, some other editor will def. remove that tag. I wasnt anywhere offended by nominating my articles for SD/PROD. My concern was your ignorance in the usage of SD/PD tags to articles. If you arent aware, most articles are build in Wikipedia from stubs stage( not as FA/GAs directly). I am reputed editor and I dont have to add articles to pump up edit count. These new article creations are trials similar to the task of FritzpollBot but had to abandonded due to lack of time of Fritzpoll. Once this is stable with tools like AWB and CSV loader, I will be transfering the job to my bot TinucherianBot after a BRFA.Do you know that this task is undertaken after consulation with many other admins? Please dont get angry when others try to correct your mistakes. Your highly misplaced tag articles was removed by admins ( which is waste of time for both the people) and I see that you have been advised to you not to tag them again. Please dont waste others' time ! Bot tagging wrong article for Men's Health (magazine)

TinucherianBot tagged the redirect article talk:Men's Health as belonging to WP Magazines (diff). The correct article for the Men's Health magazine is Men's Health (magazine).

It tagged the article once before (which made me aware that the redirect had been pointed to the magazine article, but the talk page redirect was pointed to the general article on Men's health. I sorted out the redirects, and put the magazine tag in the right place. But since the bot re-tagged the redirect, I assume something still needs to be fixed.

I will remove the bot's tag on the redirect, but wasn't sure how to keep the bot from re-tagging the article. (Or why it is tagging the wrong article.) Thanks. Zodon (talk) 20:21, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

thanks a lot for your kind words. Your motivation should inspire me for the herculean task ahead of creating the huge no of articles. For more details see the section "Indian villages" -- Tinu Cherian - 15:38, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Indian villages

Hi I see nobody followed up my suggestions to create the new categories by district? Indian villages need a hell of a lot of work and organisation. Personally I also prefer standard infoboxes. Also if you are starting some without coordinates and a map can you please include {{coord missing|India}} . This way Anemone can follow up with it. It places them in Category:India articles missing geocoordinate data

Also articles like Thuravoor Thekku need not have two stub categories. The geo district one is the idea otherwise the main Kerala one gets clogged up. This of course was why the district geo stubs were proposed in the first places. Best The Bald One White cat 14:02, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

I had actually decided to start from where Frizpoll had abandonded the task, atleast for Indian settlements as a beginning. Looking at the census data, the total Number of inhabited villages in India is 593,731 .Even The settlements above population of 5000 people should be atleast over 2,00,000 ". Yes, it a long way to go..Currenly I am doing trial edit creation with articles of Kerala villages on my primary account. Once it is stablised , I will use TinucherianBot ( or one of yet to be born sisters :) ) for this purpose. I am trying to improve the code as of now with tools like AWB and CSV loader. An example of article will look like Velliyamattom.

The next herculean task is the compilation of required data from [2] in the CSV form. The population data can be retrived only by each district at a time.Co-ordinate details are not available in then Indian census data. As for infoboxes , I use {{Infobox Indian Jurisdiction}} which is customised for Indian data. should I also add Category:India articles missing geocoordinate data , bcoz the above inbox wil automaically add state level cats like Category:Kerala location articles needing coordinates -- Tinu Cherian - 15:25, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

OK sounds good, although I always think the standard infobox is the most understandable for editors who may wish to edit them. It is a great shame as yet there has not been a bot to aid us. Imagine we had 593,731 well referenced articles with reliable sources. I dare to say that eventually we will have it covered but it will take decades at present rate. I find it very frustrating that wikimedia and a lot of editors seem to care little about the content on this site and the best way in the long term to generate content. If User:TinucherianBot has the potential to do this and standardise articles I am behind you 110% The Bald One White cat 15:52, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for the continued support and encouragement. -- Tinu Cherian - 16:02, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

If you plan on running this, can we please sort out the categories first as I once proposed? Wasn't it 464 categories? For example Velliyamattom would be categorizes as Category:Cities, towns and villages in Idukki District

The Bald One White cat 15:56, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

I dont have any objection, but the present convention is that cities/towns and villages are seperated. like Category:Cities and towns in Idukki district and Category:Villages in Idukki district ? -- Tinu Cherian - 16:02, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

I know but there are not likely to be many cities or towns in each district in comparison to villages. If there are only one or two by district then there is no point in seperating them. Howeve rif there are at least 10 towns oer district I have no objection but the reason they were merged is to avoid confusion over what is a village or town The Bald One White cat 16:33, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

But the word district must be capitalised as District as this is the category convention all across wikipedia and articles from most countries are called something Province or something District rather than "district". The Bald One White cat 16:34, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

OK. I will work on them for the creation of the cats for the 611 districts of India -- Tinu Cherian - 16:59, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Please can we create the new categories as a priority. The more stubs you start before the more work it will entail later re categorizing them. I suggest we keep the cities and towns in Kerala for example intact and just reorganize the village categories by district. I would also strongly propose creating navigation templates by area to improve coordination between articles as Indian geo articles seem to have very few templates. The Bald One White cat 11:31, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

  • I can create the cats before the articles creation, but I felt that people may start deleting them ( as no content) by the time I have articles in them.
  • Since the no of villages in India is huge, we should reorganise by district.
  • Yes, templates for villages in a district is a good idea ?

-- Tinu Cherian - 11:40, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Nobody said you have to create 611 in one go!! Just reorganize it state at a time, Anyway there are enough existing articles to probably constitute creating them all now. If any of them have a low number then place a {pop cat} note inside them. If you like I can create a template which instructs editors not to delete any new cats as it is part of a reorganization porces swhich will result in a greater coverage on Indian villages The Bald One White cat 12:02, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Sounds good.. :) -- Tinu Cherian - 12:04, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

A good example to follow is Category:Villages in Poland. Organised exactly in the way I'd expect India to be and also has nav templates for villages at the bottom of articles. I take it Indian districts also have sub districts? If there are too many villages by district to constitute nav tmeplates I mean like 500 + villages thenyou could create nav templates by sub district but categorise them as Villages in ... District. Just like Poland. This way we have a highly organised and concentrated group of articles and things will develop very well this way. It will take a major effort but once I;ve finished with Nepal I will make it one of my priorities to help you set it up The Bald One White cat 12:08, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

OK I've created Template:Indian pop cat to assist you. I see the reordering begun a while back in places e.gCategory:Villages in Andhra Pradesh so as the convention already seems to be with a lowercasing for district I have no objection to continuing this trend as long as all of India is split consistently in this way The Bald One White cat 12:19, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

The template for each subdistrict would be also gud for Indian villages but I guess it itself is a huge task. Btw Thanks for helping out ! Btw I had started with a few district subcats ( 5-7) with smaller case. How do you think I shud proceed, lower /upper case for Districts ?Tell me, I will follow that convention hereafter -- Tinu Cherian - 12:24, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Section break1

Well perhaps a bot can do something like that like it did with Poland a while back in regards to sub district templates there undoubtedly thousands that need to be made. Me personally I always try to capitalise Province or District as it gives it an air of governance. However I've just been reading a thread from 2006 where User:Tobi Conradi attempted to move all the districts to capitals but was reverted by Nichalp. Looking around the convention for India seems to be smaller casing so to avoid any potential conficts I think it would be best to resume with lower casing for categories too seems as int the present form the district articles are in lower casing. Anyway I'm about to create the categories for Kerala so once they are created you can begin depopulating the village in Kerala category perhaps using AWB to asisst you. The Bald One White cat 12:32, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

OK here they are:

The idea is that you simplify categorisation as much as possible as avoid categorising the article in two categories so remove "Villages in Kerala" or even "Idukki district" from a village articles and categorize it purely as "Villages in Idukki district". Cool? So now the Villages in Kerala cat needs complete emptying, Happy editing! The Bald One White cat 12:46, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Urgh small problem. I just recategorised Achickal and your templates seme to have automatic categories which place them in "Villages in Kerala" which we want removed. Can you sort this? The Bald One White cat 12:50, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

The culprit is {{Infobox Indian Jurisdiction}}

<!-- ---->|village = {{#ifeq:{{{state_name|}}}|Andhra Pradesh|{{#ifexist:Category:Villages in {{{district|}}} district|[[Category:Villages in {{{district|}}} district]]|}}|[[Category:Villages in {{{state_name|}}}{{#ifeq:{{{state_name|}}}|Punjab|_(India)|}}]]}}
This shud probably be fixed ! -- Tinu Cherian - 13:09, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Yes I know I asked Nichalp to fix it. The Bald One White cat 13:30, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Ok. I saw that. Hopefully Nich will respond soon. Btw one more doubt .. What does {{coord missing|India}} do? Will AnimoneBot find the actual co-ordinates and add them to article if the template is present ? -- Tinu Cherian - 13:37, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

I would ask User:The Anome about that. It seems like you have missing coordinates organized by state so it shouldn't be a problem The Bald One White cat 13:41, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

if that is the case, I neednot add {{coord missing|India}} , right ? -- Tinu Cherian - 13:46, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Best to just name the templates as just "Thiruvananthapuram district". It then will be possible to add landmarks or notable other content to the templates. None of those proposed (not actual) Notability guidelines have any consensus, the discussions consist of only a handful of editors at best and so don't represent a community consensus, and the AfD/Common_outcomes#Places doesn't mean anything in the context of creating articles en masse via an automated process, as was determined during the FritzpollBot discussion. If you think there is some more cats to tagged, please let me know of the category and I will run my bot over them. Meanwhile this is how to run and use a bot like mine for WikiProject tagging :-
This is a AWB based bot. AWB can be used by human assissted edits too . Therefore you can get experienced on using the tool and then later create a bot account, file a Bot approval and then do with the bot accounts. The good thing of flagged bot accounts is that you need to save it manually for each edits.

This is how to use the AWB tool :
1) Download AWB from Wikipedia:AWB#.282.29_Download . You need to get AWB approval to use this. You can do this here . If approved, your name will be added to the CheckPage . Await for the approval before using AWB.
2) Extract it to a folder.
3) Kingbotk/Plugin that comes with AWB is very useful for tagging for WikiProject banners. Move the plugin .dll file to AWB folder . Start AutoWikiBrowser.exe and File (Top selection menu) > Log in . Give your wikipedia Login username and passwd .
4) Select from AWB , Plugins (Top selection menu) > Load Plugins > Kingbotk AWB Plugin.dll
5) Now you get Kingbotk AWB Plugin at Plugins Tab, you can select standard wikiprojects "India Plugin" or "Add generiic template" for other projects. Once selected you may need to configure with the project banner template details. 6) Now Select "Category" from the left side drop menu "Source" and then enter a category name in the box below
7) Click "Make list", let the list load up.
8) Do " Remove dupes" and "Filter out non main space "
9) "Convert to talk pages "
10) CAUTION:Dont select Category(Recursive) if you are not sure of all the sub categories
11) Dont forget to give appropriate Edit summary in the "Start" Tab.
12) Unselect "Doesnt Exist" from the "Skips" tab
13) Go to the Plugin Tab ( bottom) and click "Start the Process".
14) Click "Save" if u r ok with the changes else click 'Ignore'.

Have fun. Let me know if you have any doubts -- Tinu Cherian - 13:13, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Great, thanks for tagging the WP:MAG articles! Now the WikiProject is off to a good start. Also, thanks these AWB instructions. I'll let you know if I encounter any problems. Thanks again!! Arbitrarily0 (talk) 00:31, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi - I see you have recently created one or more new stub types. As it states at Wikipedia:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Wikipedia, it is recommended that new stub types are proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies. Your new stub type is currently listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Discoveries - please feel free to make any comments there as to any rationale for this stub type. And please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 00:43, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

I have created them as it was non-controversal as already other district stubs for some states of India is already present. Example {{Kollam-geo-stub}} and other subtemplates of {{Kerala-geo-stub}}. As we are gearing up for making articles for lots of inhabiated villages of India, it is important to make district level stub template for all the 611 districts of Kerala.Should the template have the district level cats also instead of state level cats ? ( Replied there also )-- Tinu Cherian - 02:08, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
Tinu, here is how Stub proposal proess works. All new stub templates and categories need to be proposed first at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals. This is to make sure if the new stub type is required, formatted correctly etc. Also if there are <65 articles in a stub category, the articles get up-merged to the parent category. You will have to propose all the district level stubs at the stub sorting proposal page. If the district has <65 articles, then the template will use the state category otherwise it will have it's own. The stub sorting people will create the templates and categories once the discussin is complete. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 02:22, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
Thanks guys for the pointers, I wasnt aware stub templates have to created by stub sorting people. I went a bit bold :) I will propose them at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals. -- Tinu Cherian - 02:35, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

I do a lot of work with the stub sorting group. 60 articles is the criteria. What needs doing? OK please join in at the Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals/2008/December The Bald One White cat23:12, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks ! I will join the 'party' :) -- Tinu Cherian - 09:24, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

License status of PIB images

Hi Tinu Cherian,

the Public Info Bureau (PIB - pib.nic.in has some absolutely amazing pics of Indian leaders and tech, especially of the freedom struggle, which can be PD uploaded. The copyright status of their other images are unclear, and I have asked some journos who have said that we can use them... however, I have also blanket messaged them asking for information about this. Hopefully, they should reply soon.

If they do reply positively, how do we take this forward, as in, where do we inform ppl about it, and how do we get the admins to agree to this???

Thanks Sniperz11@CS 07:42, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for taking the initiative. Let us see how they reply. Once we get, we will take this at WT:INB for opinions -- Tinu Cherian - 10:13, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
K... thanks... hope they do reply soon. P.S. Once they reply, I'll fwd u the mail also. I've sent u a test mail to send over my mail address. Cheers. Sniperz11@CS 11:00, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

WikiCup notice

The 2009 WikiCup will begin on January 1, 2009. The first round will run through March 31, 2009. For more information on this tournament, read the "about" section on the main WikiCup page.

This year, we have a different system in calculating points. At User:Garden/WikiCup/Submissions, you will find information about submitting your article (and other) work to earn points. Each contestant will have their own individual subpage for submitting completed work to us.

This year, User:ST47 will also be running one of his bots to calculate mainspace edits and read your submission subpages to calculate the point values you receive based on our scoring chart.

Questions or comment? Ask at the talk page or go directly to Garden or IMatthew's talk page. Good luck and Happy Holidays! -- ayematthew and Garden. 14:13, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Advice required

Hi
Please advise on merging Konni, Kerela (note that Kerala has been misspelt) with Konni (India). Reason is that the latter is a broader term.

Since the title is wrong, initially I tried to move Konni, Kerela to Konni, Kerala but it returned an error saying page already exists. Interestingly, Konni, Kerala was redirecting to itself. You will notice it if you see the History section.
Hence I put a redirect in Konni, Kerala to point to Konni (India).
Then I cleaned up Konni (India) to some extent with some copy-edits. I will try to cite more references in it when I get time.
I have also edited Konni disambiguation page to list Konni (India).
Please advise what has to be done. I have started contributing to Wikipedia quite recently, and am not sure of how to deal with something like this.
Your help will be sincerely appreciated.

WP:IND EDITS is a subset of WP:EDITS, made manually by me, just to identify highly active Indian editors, editors of Indian orgin or other non-indian editors who work on India related contents. If you feel that you fall into one of these, please feel free to add yourself at WP:IND EDITS. I may keep updating the list everytime WP:EDITS is updated . Thanks.. Sorry for the delayed reply.
