Nourhane[edit]

Hello Styyx I amended my draft of the Nourhane article. You had kindly reviewed it and commented that there were adequate references but no inline citations. DoubleGrazing has since reviewed it and found that there were no adequate references. He started criticizing the page at 10 am, and just rejected it. I just turned on my computer and found three or four messages from him. I find this 'reviewing' process to be subjective... There are references, be they songs she sang, films she acted in, articles, books she is mentioned in. He points out in one of his comments to me that I am related to the subject. I replied that I had disclosed the relationship by including [connected contributor] to my article draft.

Thank you for your advice on how to proceed. Sincerely, May

I would suggest that you read Credible Claim of Significance again. A credible claim of significance can be very insigificant, but may still be enough to protect a stupid article from speedy deletion. It just doesn't protect it from regular deletion. Thank you for your work in reviewing. Robert McClenon (talk) 16:14, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

two drafts are submitted[edit]

Hello, I cited many sources to Draft:List of Mongolian flags and Draft:List of Somali flags so will be accepted this time? I wonder if I found many sources using Google. 86.95.173.151 (talk) 10:53, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you moved to draft from main; Draft:List of Mongolian flags and also I submitted that another one that also related to List of flags but another country; Draft:List of Somali flags and I saw that AAAAA143222 created this article as an sandbox. and than they moved his sandbox to Draft:List of Somali flags 86.95.173.151 (talk) 10:56, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Fan editor research![edit]

Hey Styyx! My name is Gen. Quon, and I'm an editor who focuses mostly on TV and music articles. I'm currently working on a dissertation about the information behavior fan editors on Wikipedia, and as a result, I've been reaching out to people who I think might have some interesting insights. I saw some of your promoted/worked-on articles, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in chatting with me about your information experiences? The questions will be things like "where do you get info", "how do you determine if this or that info is what you need?, etc.? I'm more than happy to field more questions or send an email your way if you're interested!--Gen. Quon[Talk](I'm studying Wikipedia!) 18:44, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gen. Quon! Looks fun tbh, where does this chatting take place? ~StyyxTalk? 19:29, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the fast reply; do you have Wiki-email enabled? I can discuss specifics there if you'd like. Long story short: I'm open to whatever medium is easiest for you.--Gen. Quon[Talk](I'm studying Wikipedia!) 19:37, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Gen. Quon, I do have it enabled. Is it just messaging or a call? ~StyyxTalk? 19:49, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
OK, cool. I just sent an email with additional details!--Gen. Quon[Talk](I'm studying Wikipedia!) 21:52, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Gen. Quon I'm not quite sure if I have received it, as my inbox (incl. spam) doesn't have one. Normally when someone sends me an email via the "Email this user" button I get a notification on Wikipedia itself as well, which I also haven't seen come by. ~StyyxTalk? 22:09, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh weird! OK, I sent it again. If that doesn't work, I can just drop my email directly here.--Gen. Quon[Talk](I'm studying Wikipedia!) 15:22, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Bayraktar (song)[edit]

On 9 April 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Bayraktar (song), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a Ukrainian soldier has written a song dedicated to the Turkish combat drone Bayraktar TB2? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Bayraktar (song). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Bayraktar (song)), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Your GA nomination of Filli Vanilli[edit]

Closing of move request for Lady Frere[edit]

Hello Styyx, would you be willing to reopen the move request for Lady Frere? While both comments opposed the move, I believe properly weighing consensus with applicable policies and guidelines would show that almost complete adoption of the current name by reliable sources satisfies WP:COMMONNAME guidelines and that only two comments are not enough to determine an accurate consensus. I would also appreciate a more detailed closing summary if you are to do so again. Desertambition (talk) 23:58, 9 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Desertambition This might come over quite arrogantly, but no. The article was moved to its current title with a discussion in January. Consensus in that discussion was that "Lady Frere" is the common name, supported with an ngram and a JSTOR result. In the April RM, you list sources that do use "Cacadu", but make no comparison with the other option (also not in the January discussion) and completely disregard the usage of "Lady Frere", while the two oppose !votes do make the comparison between the two (per their comments in the previous RM), and come to the conclusion that the current title is still the common name. ~StyyxTalk? 11:48, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It is unclear why reliable sources should be disregarded in favor of search results that do not control for organizations, historical events, "Lady Frere" in other contexts and countries, etc. Per WP:NAMECHANGES:
Sometimes the subject of an article will undergo a change of name. When this occurs, we give extra weight to independent, reliable English-language sources ("reliable sources") written after the name change. If the reliable sources written after the change is announced routinely use the new name, Wikipedia should follow suit and change relevant titles to match. If, on the other hand, reliable sources written after the name change is announced continue to use the established name, Wikipedia should continue to do so as well, as described above in "Use commonly recognizable names".
Search results that are not controlled appear to be inadequate when reliable English-language sources continue to use the current name. Searching for "Lady Frere" almost exclusively gives results like "Cacadu (formerly Lady Frere)" or organizations/businesses rather than using Lady Frere exclusively/primarily. Did you parse through the search results to come to your conclusion?
Police say they have made a major breakthrough in the investigation into the brutal killings of 11 elderly people at Zingqolweni village in Cacadu (formerly Lady Frere)...
An Emalahleni Local Municipality bakkie was one of the stolen items during an alleged armed robbery at the municipal offices in Cacadu (formerly Lady Frere).
Eastern Cape police have offered thousands of Rand in rewards to anyone who can supply information that can lead to the arrest and successful prosecution of those involved in the mass murders of elderly people in Ezingqolweni locality in Cacadu, formerly Lady Frere. Desertambition (talk) 12:04, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry but I believe you should've noted this at the respective discussion when it was still open rather than throwing it at me. This is not the continuation of the RM. ~StyyxTalk? 19:42, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have brought this up, I did not want to WP:BLUDGEON the process. You are the person to reopen it, that it why I am bringing it up to you. Clearly we aren't going to agree. I'll try to open a move request relatively soon but forgive me if I am a bit slow. Thank you. Desertambition (talk) 19:45, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Seems like nothing's gonna happen now, ha. ~StyyxTalk? 15:09, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

About my draft[edit]

Pagemoves[edit]

Hi, pagemoves requested by User:Epq0 should be reversed, as the use was evading a block or ban. DuncanHill (talk) 00:53, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello DuncanHill! Do they really have to be? The moves actually made sense per WP:CONSISTENT since almost all of the articles at Law by country are titled as "Law of X" (with a few exceptions), so it would be double work to reverse the move and then move the articles back some time later. WP:BANREVERT doesn't have anything about page moves, but edits by or on behalf of banned editors don't always have to be reverted. ~StyyxTalk? 09:45, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The St. Petersburg Times[edit]

Hello. I see you've moved The St. Petersburg Times (Russia). Fixing the resulting broken links shouldn't be too hard; there are only 185 articles to edit. Are you familiar with tools like DisamAssist or do you need help? I think all links to the dab should go to the Russian paper, as I monitor links to The St. Petersburg Times and St. Petersburg Times daily and hope I've already fixed any which had the wrong target. Certes (talk) 22:16, 26 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Certes! Took a while but they all should be done now, apart from two where I had no clue which one it was. I think Tamzin did a few as well. ~StyyxTalk? 07:36, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Styyx: I resolved the two {{dn}}s with some help from newspapers.com. :) In one case someone had even gone and added some metadata to the ref template for the wrong Times! By the way, substing doesn't work inside of a ref tag due to the terrifyingly low-numbered T4700. Not sure if we have a bot that looks for attempts at it or not. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 07:42, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to you both. That's all the links fixed now, and I can now take the Russian paper off my check list as new links will appear on the dab reports. The PST that catches me out most is the pipe trick in links, e.g. <ref>{{cite bla|publisher=[[The St. Petersburg Times (Russia)|]]}}</ref> doesn't work. I've retargeted The Saint Petersburg Times; the other StP-related redirects to Tampa Bay Times seem likely to be for Florida. Certes (talk) 11:44, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Bayraktar (song) edits[edit]

Hi! Could you please tell me why you've removed all my additions to the Bayraktar (song) page? Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LizScarlett23 (talkcontribs) 10:29, 29 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello LizScarlett23. The addition of non-notable covers that are only sourced by the work itself (primary sources) without any independent (secondary) sources is not encyclopedic, as it's just an indiscriminate collection of information. ~StyyxTalk? 10:38, 29 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
H @Styyx, thanks for letting me know! I am quite new here so I have a tendency to update pages bit by bit (just to save the work I have done so far). I will add more secondary sources right now! :) LizScarlett23 (talk) 10:43, 29 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022[edit]

New Page Review queue March 2022

Hello Styyx/Archives,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 816 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 858 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Pending changes reviewer granted[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "pending changes reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on pages protected by pending changes. The list of articles awaiting review is located at Special:PendingChanges, while the list of articles that have pending changes protection turned on is located at Special:StablePages.

Being granted reviewer rights neither grants you status nor changes how you can edit articles. If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.

Draftification of Tunnel Pitve-Zavala[edit]

Hi Styyx, I wanted to let you know that an article you recently moved to draftspace should not have been moved because it had already been draftified before. Per WP:DRAFTOBJECT, an author moving their work back to mainspace after draftification cannot have it moved back to draftspace again, as a page may only be moved unilaterally to the draftspace a single time. The page instead should have been handled through other processes, such as deletion, stubbing, tagging, etc. Please make sure you thoroughly review the article history and move logs before draftifying in the future. Thanks. ––FormalDude talk 05:30, 14 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Page reviews[edit]

Hi Styyx. Sorry to disturb you, but today you forgot to review the pages I created. Please make sure you do (If they are in line with Wikipedia standards of course).Clenixon (talk) 19:45, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Clenixon. Am I really the only one who reviews your articles? xD Anyway, I just look at the list of new pages and work my way down to older creations. I've started around 10 minutes ago, so I've only seen one of your articles (yet). ~StyyxTalk? 19:51, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have had other pages reviewed by other users, but they are not as reliable as you (for example, none of them reviewed more than one of my pages). I even started
deliberately creating them around 3-7PM only because I noticed that it was your peak work hours. If it's not asking for too much could you please review 1922-23 Prince of Asturias Cup, 1923-24 Prince of Asturias Cup, 1953–58 Mediterranean Cup, Czechoslovakia national football team results (1920–1938), Estonia national football team results (1991–2009), and List of Greece national football team hat-tricks. They were created somewhere in the last three weeks, but never reviewed. Forgotten in time. Clenixon (talk) 20:09, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Clenixon I've marked the above articles as patrolled. Currently there is a backlog in reviewing these pages, so if they haven't been reviewed in the first few days, it's quite likely that it will take while for them to be reviewed later. Also a small note: I'm not on Wikipedia every single day for exact amount of time. One day I get a lot of reviews done, the other not so many, sometimes not at all because I've got other stuff to do or I don't feel like it, or I'm working on an article myself. So I might not show up every time. ~StyyxTalk? 15:55, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, no problem. If you miss any, I will "aware you". In fact, Juan Tena Guimerà and Ricardo Álvarez Lobo. (I'm feeling like I am abusing the system lol). Clenixon (talk) 19:34, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022[edit]

New Page Review queue June 2022

Hello Styyx/Archives,

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

Backlog drive

A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

Misc

There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:

Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 14504 articles, as of 20:00, 1 May 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

Reminders
  • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
  • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
  • To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
Notes
  1. ^ not including another ~6,000 redirects
  2. ^ The number of weekly reviews reported in the NPP feed includes redirects, which are not included in the backlog we primarily track.
