  • @Frietjes: thanks for the note. I don't think it's the same person (although the first name on both accounts is the same) as there are a few editors who've crossed over here from mr.wiki with the same POV and agenda, two of whom I've tbanned so far. I'll keep a watch on this. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 16:29, 1 May 2018 (UTC)

Editing required for Indu Malhotra article

Indu Malhotra article needs serious editing. Given that her elevation as Supreme Court judge is in news, the page must be getting a lot of hits. However, there is scope for lot of improvement. Any help will be much appreciated.

Clarification on edit

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Prashant&oldid=prev&diff=839884888&diffmode=source

I can leave the part about Pacific Ocean called Prashant Mahasagar out. Would this edit be fine?

OLD:

Prashant or Prasant[pronunciation?] is a common boys name in South Asia. It is derived from the word "shanth" which means patience, calm, quiet, or tranquil.

NEW:

Prashant' (also spelled as Prasant or Prasanth[pronunciation?]) is a common male name in South Asia. It is derived from the word "shanth" which means patience/calm/quiet/peace/tranquil and the word "param" which means the ulitmate/absolute/supreme. Thus the name means "pacific", or "supreme peace", or "ultimate calm".

I am watching this page. PV 19:27, 6 May 2018 (UTC)

Regarding edits on Pacific Ocean page

I had edited the Pacific Ocean page with a "also known as XYZ in Hindi" statement to make it similar to the page on Indian_Ocean. You left a message on my talk page here stating that this was the english wikipedia.

With that logic, should the following statements on various wikis about names in other languages be removed?

Indian_Ocean -> "The Indian Ocean is known as Ratnākara (Sanskrit: रत्नाकर), "the mine of gems" in ancient Sanskrit literature, and as Hind Mahāsāgar (Hindi: हिन्द महासागर), in Hindi."

Bay_of_Bengal -> The Bay of Bengal (Bengali: বঙ্গোপসাগর [bɔŋgopoʃagoɾ])

I can try to find other examples if you want. Shouldn't we try for uniformity across wikipedia? Either we should add the native language translation for Pacific Ocean like the other pages, or remove it wherever it shows up in the other pages.

I am watching this page so feel free to place your edits here.

PV 19:22, 6 May 2018 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prashantverma999 (talkcontribs)

The Indian Ocean name is derived from the country and based on the historical name, while that's not the case with the Pacific Ocean. I'm not even sure what sort of false equivalency you're trying to establish here, but you're really not making any sense. This is akin to saying that you've got to put an explanatory sentence for how United States of America is called in Urdu just because Pakistan has that. —SpacemanSpiff 11:03, 7 May 2018 (UTC)

The Indian Ocean is known as Ratnākara (Sanskrit: रत्नाकर) -> That is what I am alluding to. Why mention the name in Sanskrit for the Indian Ocean in that case? Here's another example: Mount_Everest -> Mount Everest, known in Nepali as Sagarmāthā and in Tibetan as Chomolungma

I am trying to understand what the standard is; there is no false equivalency here that I am trying to establish. Should we remove the name of Mt. Everest in Nepali and Tibetan by that logic?

  • I have already explained above and you don't seem to understand, so I can't help you. THere's no relevance of Hindi to the pacific ocean article, if you don't get that then it's not something that anyone can help you with. —SpacemanSpiff 11:41, 8 May 2018 (UTC)

Possible sock/canvassing

Hi

I.P 58.178.214.158 is canvassing (albeit failing at it) on their talk page in regards to the page move discussion at Talk:Swaminarayan Temple, Ahmedabad.

They tried (and failed) to start another page move discussion with this edit, while the current discussion is still active. I've reverted.

My gut feeling is that they may be a sock of User:Nndkalupurmandir as they have the exact same single-purpose of matching the article title to the orgs website.

I'm not sure if anything needs doing about it yet, so sorry if I've wasted your time reading this.

Kind regards, Cesdeva (talk) 16:04, 8 May 2018 (UTC)

  • @Cesdeva: this kind of behavior is all too common around these religious groups, sadly it justs wastes more of our time. Winged Blades of Godric is currently attempting a clean up of the extensive garden around Meher Baba and if you follow that you'll notice how much of a mess these articles can be. As far as the Swaminaryan/BAPS thing goes, there's been extensive socking in the past too. When I was wikiyoung I attempted to clean up the mess around Yogi Bhajan that his hagiographer and fan boys created, but sadly I ran out of patience and time, and that one had its tentacles spread to the more mainstream articles too which were hijacked (like Kundalini yoga) and the garden included an article for almost every single person who this person taught, for no reason other than they existed and breathed in the same air. As such, I don't think the above account is the master, it's likely a sock, in cases like this, most of the sockfarms don't involve the master so it's difficult to do the sock blocks unless a CU is run. If there's something more specific then let me know and I'll take action. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 03:37, 9 May 2018 (UTC)
Will do. Thanks for taking time to explain things, I appreciate it. Kind regards, Cesdeva (talk) 06:21, 9 May 2018 (UTC)
  • I'm always interested in peeking into and mowing down walled gardens:) What's the existing condition of the mess around Yogi Bhajan? ~ Winged BladesGodric 07:42, 9 May 2018 (UTC)
I think it must've expanded now, I haven't looked at the mess in years, but see stuff from the contributor of this, and since you're an OTRS member, can you verify that ticket? The uploading account is evidently that of the "official hagiographer" and he's been spamming non-descript bios of Yoga teachers and stuff who studied under this man as well as anything to do around 3HO. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 07:54, 9 May 2018 (UTC)
Thanks:) The ticket is all good and there's nothing more than an exact reproduction of the passage, already mentioned at the image.Anyways, I'll trace the contributions of GFSK and try to branch out my efforts from there. ~ Winged BladesGodric 13:44, 9 May 2018 (UTC)

Notability evaluation

Any Tamil sources about Siva Shankar Baba? Doesn't look to be any notable but I will concede that I've not crawled in depth...... ~ Winged BladesGodric 05:18, 11 May 2018 (UTC)

Add Avdhoot Shivanand, Manjula Sree (G11-tagged), Deepakbhai Desai, Vethathiri Maharishi (See this AfD) and Yogi Vilasnath Maharaj.....WP seems to be a spam-magnet in these areas:)~ Winged BladesGodric 05:27, 11 May 2018 (UTC)

Abusive language being used by an editor

Hi @SpacemanSpiff:.

Rahuldbg15 has been making some unexplained modifications to sourced content on Darbhanga page. When I tried to talk with them on their talk page, they started abusing. —Jakichandan (talk) 15:29, 11 May 2018 (UTC)

CSD at Battle of Pindi Bhattian

Any idea whether I should be tagging Battle of Pindi Bhattian as CSD A11 or G7? There is a discussion on the talk page and one or other of those criteria will apply. - Sitush (talk) 14:03, 11 May 2018 (UTC)

  • G3 or A11 would've been ok but not G7. cheers.—SpacemanSpiff 02:58, 12 May 2018 (UTC)

Regarding the generic warning

Can you please elaborate why this warning was posted? Thanks DG Ahir (talk) 12:34, 12 May 2018 (UTC)

  • It's obvious that you've come here with a caste agenda and are changing sourced content to reflect your POV and you've done that as an IP before and even left a warning for someone when they reverted you, so please don't act as if you don't know. You will be blocked if this continues. —SpacemanSpiff 12:36, 12 May 2018 (UTC)

The Fault Lines article

Hi! I understand that the text on the Fault Lines: How Hidden Fractures Still Threaten the World Economy might have seemed to be copied, but I have only started working on expanding the article. Please give me some time, I intend to improve it substantially. I'd request you to undo your edit rolling back my previous edits. Thanks a lot! Shobhit102 | talk  07:28, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

  • You've been warned many times, any further copyvio and you will be blocked. I'm not going to restore any copyvio. —SpacemanSpiff 07:29, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
Well, as far as I know, this is only the second article on which my contributions might have been copyvio, the other being the IIM Ahmedabad article. As you can probably see, the IIMA article remains in a pretty bad shape due to what might well be perceived as over-exuberant and incessant warnings and rollbacks. I'm not sure why you would not want to at least let an article develop before you rush to conclusions. Shobhit102 | talk  07:38, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
If you can't add content without plagiarizing or copyright violations then this place isn't perhaps for you. As for the IIMA article, you did it multiple times and were let off with warnings back then, but that won't happen again. —SpacemanSpiff 07:41, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
Maybe you should revisit Wikipedia:Be kind, and try being a little less pontifical. The IIMA project was supposed to be a collaborative student-run effort, and not all of the content was being created by one individual. If you cannot give me even a day to help improve what are clearly important articles, and want to go about nixing all efforts blindly, well, I guess the articles would remain as they are. I guess I wish you'd just be a little less unpleasant. Anyway, thanks a lot.  Shobhit102 | talk  07:48, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
Cut the sanctimonious prattle, everyone else can contribute without plagiarizing or indulging in copyright violations, but you seemingly can't, so the problem is you. —SpacemanSpiff 08:30, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
Look, I appreciate that you pointed out what you considered a mistake, and I am happy to not go back to repeating it. I gave you an explanation, and told you that it would be great if you could be a little less overbearing. Let's just drop it at that, and not get into blatant generalisations. I appreciate the great work you seem to be doing, and WP is a fantastic creation because of dedicated users like you. But that doesn't imply that you should not demonstrate due consideration.  Shobhit102 | talk  08:54, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
Preventing/removing copyvio is never overbearing. The Banner talk 11:31, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
Fully agree. What can however seem overbearing are contentions such as "this place isn't perhaps for you", or "everyone else can contribute without plagiarizing or indulging in copyright violations, but you seemingly can't". The intention is to build a good article without resorting to copyvio. However, that can take time, especially when the topic might not entirely straightforward. Personal attacks are not appreciated. Thanks.  Shobhit102 | talk  16:10, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
But the case is simple: if you can not add info without copyvio, do not add it. The Banner talk 16:32, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

Hey Spiff, what do you suppose should be done about Draft:Ek Deewana Tha - Filmazia HD? It's a duplicate of Ek Deewaana Tha and there's no legitimate expectation that it'll ever be a valid article. Speedy? Which one? The article creator has been problematic too. He's created several other accounts to continue with weird edits, adding Urdu to Hindi-language subjects, etc. (Yeah, I know they're basically the same...) Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 00:03, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

  • I've deleted it as an unattributed copy paste fork, obviously we shouldn't let multiple versions of the same content float around, especially without the proper attribution trail. Are there any more new accounts? —SpacemanSpiff 06:32, 13 May 2018 (UTC)

Possible RKM sock

Can you please take a look at RishijiKumar who was registered a day after you declined the unblock request for Rishi Kumar Maurya (talk · contribs), having very similar username and editing in the same area. Thank you GSS (talk|c|em) 08:08, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

  • don't think it is, it's a UPE sock for sure but not connected to that farm I think. WHere did he copy the userpage from? —SpacemanSpiff 09:49, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
The userpage was copied from user Jorjman. I found him roaming around here which was created by RKM and also his article creation style is very similar to the master especially when we look at the use of references e.g. |title before |url etc. and then linking Indian to disabiguation page as [[indian]] (I as "i") rather than [[India]]n (please see Aneel Murarka and Tanisha Singh). GSS (talk|c|em) 10:45, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

I was interested in that particular article, as much of the information provided by it was true. Although I too felt that the page could be more chronologically simplified and elaborated, but as for now it was pretty good. I am trying to get hold of a book and contact some of the noted persons which can clarify the historical accuracy.
