SlimShady

Hi Spiff, I recently temp blocked SlimShady1017 and was looking around the project for info when I saw this image deletion request, where you had some opinions about him. I'm of the mind that his competence level is a bit dodgy, (note the three unblock requests on his talk page and inability to proofread) and his recent claims in his unblock request that he might have been hacked leave me a bit concerned. Coupled with your note that he may have been disruptive on Commons makes me a bit uncomfortable. Got any more info on him? Care to respond to the unblock request? No pressure. I didn't see anything at Commons about him. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:30, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

An user...

I recently came across a user Tahia Akter Chowdhury (talk · contribs) who seems to be entirely non-proficient in the English language and perhaps as a result don't understand the need of providing sources for any addition on any article(esp. when the additions are to cast names of films,telly-serials etc.).
In spite of several warnings on the issue of adding non-sourced content (Now,I really doubt whether she got the meaning of the warning templates) and even a request to change to a wiki of her probable mother tongue, she seems non-reluctant and went on her activity as usual.
I am at crossheads since her edits are not vandalism-based(Hence,reporting may be would not be a good idea) but reverting her repetitive unsourced additions to a particular genre of articles everyday can prove tedious and to an extent disruptive.(Just see the revision history of "Bhutu" and "Goyenda Ginni-two Bengali telly serials.)
Can you devise a plan to tackle the issue?

Thanks!!Aru@baska❯❯❯ Vanguard 09:47, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Possible sock

Hello there, I notice you have blocked user:Shrikant2805 a sockpuppet of user:Prithvirajkothari rsbl but I can not find the SPI page to report new sock so am adding here. Mukesh.isms an SPA user just recreated Mr. Prithviraj Kothari: (Included Mr. before name to game the system) earlier created by the master and sock (see deletion log). Thank you – GSS (talk) 10:08, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Was blocked as suspected sock, so no SPI. New account blocked, spam deleted. —SpacemanSpiff 10:17, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
Thank you very much!. GSS (talk) 10:18, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

I have one more request so sorry to bother you. I opened this SPI on 25th last month but no one reviewed it till now. Please have a look. Thank you – GSS (talk) 10:56, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Blocked, but for the future when you want CU action please change the status from open to CU requested so that a clerk/CU can act on it. In this case the behavioral evidence was enough for me to block. —SpacemanSpiff 11:09, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
👍 Sure I will keep in mind. Thank you very much once again. GSS (talk) 11:10, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Hey spaceman just change in jayalaita page from "was" to "is" as you wrote she was. Prashivam (talk) 12:59, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

personal opinion?

person means a human being. All the knowledge in Wikipedia is created by personal opinions of persons or human beings. There are son many other articles which contain such information. Even the article that I edited. If one starts removing edits in the name of personal opinion 80% of the information in wikipedia are without peoper citations. What I mentioned may be my personal opinion but they are true facts. Dravidian parties have sent complete lists several times to the centre. If you can provide proper citations or corrections to the points raised or contribute yourself, please do it. Don't remove contributions by others. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ellalan (talkcontribs) 15:06, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Possible socks

I just came across three users, who seem like socks to me. I am giving a half-baked report below. It needs more research. Please have a look at it whenever you get some time. And file an SPI, which can get them duck-blocked.

Master

User Austereraj (aka Dr. Raj Kumar Yadav). For behavioural details, please see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Austereraj/Archive

Suspected socks

a) User 1: The sock first uploaded the master's pic at his userpage & then signed his post, which reads: "Dr. Raj kumar is Haryana's number 1 Wikipedian". User 3 (listed below) also used this tagline. In fact, user 1 has also created an article about himself. And right after creating it, he blanked his user page – to remove suspicion.

b) User 2: Restored user 1's article & is creating same sort of non-notable BLPs.

c) User 3: This one is already blocked for copyvios. He also used to identify himself as "Dr. Raj kumar is Haryana's number 1 Wikipedian".

PS: All of the above users have struggled with copyvios. Also, all of them created and/or edited articles related to Jagan Nath University, where Dr. Raj Kumar Yadav works. e.g. check the history of Jagan Nath University, Jaipur, Jagan Nath University, NCR, and Jagan Institute of Management Studies. BTW, nearly all of his previous socks were reported by Sitush. But he seems to be taking a break.

On a different note, this user's name seems a bit similar to you. - NitinMlk (talk) 19:14, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

I've handled these two but you'll have to file an SPI as there appear to be more socks and this one seems to have put up his services for pay (the Plebs journal has seen extensive paid editing in its various versions). —SpacemanSpiff 10:34, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for taking care of them. Unfortunately, I am as clueless as ever. So, you will have to file the SPI as well. - NitinMlk (talk) 19:15, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Arnav19

Hey, thanks for your comments at the Arnav19 AN report. Much appreciated. In the world of Indian TV articles I've been dealing with a bizarre phenomenon I call the "Campaign of Ignorance". Some of it seemed to involve articles created by Arnav19, but it had tendrils elsewhere. Basically it seems that there's a campaign of IPs and fly-by-night editors to revert any change that doesn't conform to some unspecified cookie-cutter template. One of the problems with Arnav, was that he kept creating articles with really silly errors, like misusing template, and when I'd delete the information or fix the numerous MOS violations, people would add them back. Roseness 12 was one of those users. So was 73.189.117.30 (whose 1 month block expires tomorrow, I notice.) Both these users' talk pages are very telling about these issues. Some examples of what I'm seeing:

Optional examples for context
  • There were several users who kept adding leading zeroes to numbers: 01, 02, 03... No amount of "Please see MOS:NUM" was resonating. It finally quieted down after a few people were blocked. (Arnav was responsible for spawning some of this)
  • Multiple users were misusing the |followed_by= and |preceded_by= parameters in TV infoboxes, incorrectly thinking that the latter is used to indicate what series replaced the 8:00 show after cancellation or what followed in the 8:30 time slot.[1] No amount of embedded notes or talk page discussions/notices/warnings seemed to help, but blocks and semi-protection got the job done. (Another issue that intersected with Arnav19)
  • Many editors like this guy seems to think that four names divided by ambiguous slashes is the best way to communicate. Did this cast member play one character? Four characters, Were there twins? Was someone reincarnated? Are these married names? Try to fix it and it will return.
  • Someone will add information about a cast member's departure to a TV cast list "Jane Doe left the series in 2015 after a dispute with producers over content.[12]" Another user will then come and remove the real-world content.
  • Some editors think it's important to indicate who is male and who is female,[2] then juice up the descriptions with interpretive content like "Second parallel female lead". Really, someone in the Main cast is a lead? Is that woman a female? What's a parallel lead? Oh here we get "parallel female Lead Protagonist", so they're not only a protagonist, but a "Lead Protagonist". But they're not a *Main* Lead Protagonist, they're only a parallel Lead Protagonist. Who is a female.
  • Some find clearly written prose offensive to the eyes, preferring grotesque parentheticals instead. "Jane Doe as Judy Smith - Led the French resistance until she was killed in a tequila fire at the end of season one." vs "Jane Doe as Judy Smith/Baklava/Judy Parikh (fake name) (2015-2016)(Dead)(Second parallel female Antagonist)"
  • Clarification templates keep getting removed without problems being resolved.
  • People insistent upon creating columns for a four item bullet list.
  • Multiple editors keep creating "Former cast" sections oblivious to WP:TVCAST and our need to know whether someone was part of the Main or Recurring cast. Do embedded notes and talk page comments work? No. An example here where "Former" cast appears and refnotes pointing to an explanation of a cast member's departure were removed, because knowledge and clarity is the enemy.
  • In some cases, when an actor leaves a series, someone deletes the last person who played the role. Like here. Because of course when an actor gets replaced, nobody gives a crap about that person anymore. There's no academic need for that information...

I'm not the paranoid type, but I keep encountering this crap across numerous articles. It's like people are going out of their way to promote ignorance (hence my "Campaign" descriptor) and really shitty versions of articles. Does this sound like any sock ring you're familiar with? It could also be that these companies are treating Wikipedia as a web host, so they only want the articles to reflect the most current information, maybe with no spoilers... That's another reasonable explanation for these idiotic changes. If they're using Wikipedia as a TV guide, then they don't care that they're misusing |followed_by=--they want the data to reflect what show was replaced in the time slot. Anyway... Thanks for any info you can provide. I'm up to my ears here. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 20:17, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Query

Why did you delete Joon? WP:DISCUSSAFD clearly states that disambiguation is not a reason for deletion. In fact, I quoted the relevant policy in my !vote. BTW, after this result, future AfD noms will become even more lax in performing the WP:BEFORE, as they now know that the valid alternatives to deletion won't be considered by the closing admins. - NitinMlk (talk) 18:23, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

I read your comment and your understanding of policy here is obviously not right and you just tried to justify that with an unnecessary copy paste move. —SpacemanSpiff 19:36, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
Why isn't it right? - NitinMlk (talk) 19:40, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
As Utcursch tried to explain to you, the dab already exists. I'm done discussing this, you can of course contest the afd outcome at WP:DRV. —SpacemanSpiff 19:51, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for responding. - NitinMlk (talk) 19:53, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
The Joon AfD is done & dusted. I just wanted to clarify the issue for the future AfDs. So, I posted my query at the talk page of WP:AfD. Thanks. - NitinMlk (talk) 20:08, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

Parliamentary sessions

Are we to have articles on every session now? 2016 Winter Session of Indian Parliament!! CC:@Vanamonde93 and RegentsPark: §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 03:49, 8 December 2016 (UTC)

I have no idea what the convention for this kind of stuff is and no interest either, perhaps check on other countries (US/UK/Canada) and then formulate a policy/RfC at WT:INB? —SpacemanSpiff 03:59, 8 December 2016 (UTC)
I'd seen the page, and it seems excessive to me, too, but I need to pick my battles, and this one is not worth fighting. This is just another example of the cruft that springs up around every contemporary government, because most editors seem unaware that while notability is essential for an article, it is not sufficient. Vanamonde (talk) 05:58, 8 December 2016 (UTC)
It does seem unnecessary. The material is predominantly related to the demonetization of currency and could easily fit in there. Perhaps a merge?--regentspark (comment) 16:05, 8 December 2016 (UTC)
So I went through various categories of other countries and found no such article; except some sittings that were historically important like maybe Joint Sitting of the Australian Parliament of 1974. But those are few. Our possible applicable guideline of WP:NEVENT does not mention anything about recurring events and maybe something on those lines should be mentioned in there. Such annual meetings happen routinely and do get enough coverage to supposedly meet GNG for people who go by ref count. One or two lines in demonetisation article seems fine but I think some strict stand should be taken to not make this a precedent for every session. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 04:22, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

Recent Revert to Thol. Thirumavalavan

Hi! Can you explain more about recent revert to Thol. Thirumavalavan. There are expressions like "PMK is a Vanniyar based caste party" which are not found anywhere in the sourced citation. Explain your Re-instating of unsourced expressions on the editorial.Thank you.--Universalrahu (talk) 08:10, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

It was a revert of your POV nonsense, while this particular bit may not have been in the ref, the revert was to undo your vandalism. —SpacemanSpiff 09:04, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

Certain user reverting sourced content and insulting me on my talk page, no help on noticeboard.

On the Madhesh article, a user by the name of Rajivkilanashrestha is reverting sourced content. I've attempted to discuss with him on the talk page and opened a case on tbe noticeboard however I've received no reply. He's also resorted to insulting me on my own talk page. Can the appropriate action please be taken? Damien2016 (talk) 18:03, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) - @Damien2016: You need to add diffs (links showing edit-warring behavior) to the edit-warring noticeboard report. Right now all that's there is the word "diff". Admins will need to see links. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 19:47, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi! It seems your edit to L. Vaidyanathan page seems to be Puffery as "acclaimed" in the lead section. Can you explain more about the edit.Thankyou.--Universalrahu (talk) 07:59, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

@Universalrahu: If you're talking about an edit that SpacemanSpiff made in 2009, my only response is that you need to stop wasting editors' time. Are you seriously bringing up shit from seven years ago? The statute of limitations on puffery has long since expired. Jesus... Cyphoidbomb (talk) 19:53, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

Copyright violation by Arshi1234

Hi, nominated User:Arshi1234's article on the Indira Gandhi International Sports Stadium, Haldwani for CSD for copyvios problems and saw what seems to be a final warning by you on his talk page as I was about to put the CSD notice there. Just thought I'd inform you of his latest infraction so you could take the proper measures against him. Cheers! CherylHew 15:27, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

Possible sock

I'm not very familiar with Jeeshan patel, but this looks like a sock: Special:Contributions/Arjun pandyaa. Came across while cleaning up caste-cruft. utcursch | talk 02:50, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

Tanuku

Tanuku page is being modified often by User talk:Kapil shanmukh from town to city. Reported at admins page long ago, but was turned down as stale. The user started again giving a two day gap between the edits. What should be done. Upon an advice, advice I've also explained the user on his talk about the issue.--Vin09(talk) 05:47, 18 December 2016 (UTC)

I'm blocking now because this slow moving edit war has gone on for long with multiple editors. Please start a discussion on the talk page or a centralized location reg the right term to be used in such cases. —SpacemanSpiff 07:32, 19 December 2016 (UTC)
Though you've blocked the user on 19th, started again today.--Vin09(talk) 16:26, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

Indians journalists

You watching Barkha Dutt has been helpful. Would you do the same for Rajdeep Sardesai and Sagarika Ghose as well? Just take a look at their history, I recently had to go toe-to-toe with a downright abuser--luckily, he shot himself in the foot by harassing everyone else who reverted him.

See my 2015 post Wikipedia_talk:Noticeboard_for_India-related_topics/Archive_61#Female_journalists.2C_reporters_BLP_vios. I've found these three pages getting a lot of such unwanted attention. Personally, I don't even know these subjects and have no interest in working on their articles. But when I came across them, the BLP violations forced me to watch them and search for any other vulnerable page. Why are Indian women being attacked on social media?, from BBC answered some of my questions. Till date, I didn't find any other English-language journalist getting as much attention as these three but I do watch a few extra anyway--there is the occasional such revert. Unlike politicians, they're even softer targets since there's rarely "Pro-supporters" for them, just such desperate haters. Happy holidays, Ugog Nizdast (talk) 06:26, 25 December 2016 (UTC)

I'll add those to my WL too, but I really think it's time you became an admin. There's a lot you can offer in this under addressed area. RegentsPark, ready to write a (co)nom? —SpacemanSpiff 06:39, 25 December 2016 (UTC)
Not this again! See Abecedare's post at User_talk:Ugog_Nizdast/Archive_8#Adminship in sept last year. Now I've got a lot of think about and will let you know. Ugog Nizdast (talk) 13:04, 25 December 2016 (UTC)
