upload of image

SpacemanSpiff, please note me with exact corrections so that I can refer myself. Please do not hesitate to tell exactly where I did the mistake. Ungal Vettu Pillai (talk) 11:35, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

THe Jayalalitha image that you added claiming as your own, is clearly not. Either go ahead and clean up all these copyright violations yourself or be prepared to learn the copyright rules during your block. —SpacemanSpiff 11:37, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
Spaceman, that jayalalitha image is uploaded by Kumarrajendran (talk) at this page Tamil cinema and Dravidian politics. But it was not uploaded in wikicommons. So I uploaded it in wikicommons and used it. The image was there previously itself in wiki main ency with public domain category which allows all for re-use. Infact I did that in uploading in wikicommons only. It is legal. common please understand this.
Ungal Vettu Pillai (talk) 12:11, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
YOu have claimed it as your image. How is that valid? That's a copyright violation, plain and simple. Either you go ahead and clean up all this mess (including claiming that copyright for a movie still from Thevar Magan is owned by you). You've been educated on this many times before and you continue to act as if you do nothing wrong. —SpacemanSpiff 12:14, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
Spaceman, very simple. Note that the uploader Kumarrajendran did not upload it in commons. So I did that to reuse. My question is I want to use that image in jayalalitha article. So what can I do, Please tell me. Since the uploader did not do that. That is the reason in wikicommon description page it states: I grant any entity the right to use this work for any purpose, without any conditions, unless such conditions are required by law. Infact I used again to wikicommons upload ONLY. I did not do anything other than this,as you think.
Ungal Vettu Pillai (talk) 12:29, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
You don't hold any rights on any of these images to grant it to anyone else, plain and simple. Either go ahead and tag all these violations of policy for deletion yourself. I'm sorry, but you've been told these rules many times before, your IP was blocked once before and you fail to understand policy. I'm willing to assume good faith, but you're stretching the limits. —SpacemanSpiff 13:04, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
Moonriddengirl talkpage stalker incoming: The original image File:Jjkumar.JPG was uploaded to wikipedia and released into the public domain by the adopted grandson of the subject. Reuploading it to commons is not a copyright violation, although the tag used might be incorrect. I have not yet looked at any other contributions of Keyan though. Yoenit (talk) 13:07, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
That clears this image, but there's still a movie still File:Kamal with sivaji.jpg / File:Kamal with sivaji original.jpg on commons under PD-Self, that's a still from the movie and clearly a copyvio. We've been through this before with Keyan, both MRG and I have counseled him, but this is the exact same violation as before. A list of deleted images shows the same problems of PD-Self on otherwise copyrighted images, including movie stills. I admit I haven't had the time to look through the other images yet (which is why I'd asked MRG), but all of his PD-Self tags are invalid, with the exception of this particular image, everything else I've seen is lifted off some other website. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 13:18, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
Yup, those movie stills are definetely a copy vio. Having a look at the other pictures now Yoenit (talk) 13:25, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Hello

You're back. Saw you on the CSK fanboy ANI YellowMonkey (new photo poll) 03:22, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Sockpuppet

Saritajoshi (talk · contribs) a very persistent fan of Hina Khan with a long list of sockpuppets that I've been chasing. See Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Ravi22oct. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 22:34, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Ah, that explains it. I've been gone for a while, so I haven't kept up with the latest socks and masters. Looking at the SPI page, wouldn't an edit filter be helpful in this case? cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 04:51, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
He is pretty new and the target list is fairly narrow, though expanding, which is why you probably don't recognize him. I'm not sure he is up to Edit Filter level yet. I'm thinking more like range block, but that might not be possible. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 05:35, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
Range blocks would have a collateral damage in this case unless he's from some remote location within India, based on my experiences with India ranges so far. I was thinking of an edit filter along the lines of including "[[Hina Khan]]" in any edit text, I don't think any other editor is doing that at present. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 06:30, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
You're probably right. And one IP that popped up was from Canada, too, so proxies might be involved. I'll keep the Edit Filter in mind (easy enough to write). I'll see how it goes over the next week or so. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 07:10, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

Could you look in and check for sources? Thanks, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 21:12, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

No comprendo Bengali, but if Jayanta and Ragib say it's not notable, I'd agree with them. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 08:17, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

Almost forgot to tell you

I noticed this edit you made on my watchlist. Guess who that person is? I'll give you this hint or hint. Elockid (Talk) 02:25, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Sigh, this my city is bigger than yours nonsense is just too irritating. —SpacemanSpiff 05:34, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi

I tagged the article with the copyvio but have received a reply from the user I notified - User talk:Valueyou - and he has apparently been in contact with the group, and in particular Staelhe, concerning copyright.

Can you please follow up as I am not so experienced with the OTRS system and how to validate.

Many thanks Chaosdruid (talk) 14:07, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

I'm not familiar with OTRS either, someone on the noticeboard will normally validate it, if not, you can always ask User talk:Moonriddengirl who generally knows the answers to these questions. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 15:29, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

Oriya to Odisha

The name (of the state and the language) got changed officially by a legislation in parliament today. should we be reverting when someone changes them here?--Sodabottle (talk) 08:40, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

As far as the language goes, government can not legislate what it's called. As for the state name, we use WP:COMMONNAME, e.g. Bangalore has still not been changed here because other sources haven't changed usage yet. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 08:42, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Banking town of India

Thrissur have a long tradition of banking from 1800s. It is not new to tell me that it is the banking town of India because majority of the old Kerala banks came from Thrissur and today also it survives all odds against the modern banking, like South Indian Bank and Catholic Syrian Bank to name a few. Kuries, another mode of banking also flourished in this same city. Business is a less written in Malayalam publications. If it is there also, it is not available online. Only a few years ago, most of the Malayalam news came in to online. This goes for the banking in Thrissur also. Every Malayalai knows that it is banking town of Kerala and India. But according the Wikipedia policies if you write anything on any subject, you must have a record in some third publication, like newspapers and websites. RBI doesn’t allow access to their old archive files so I can’t that files. So when I got these newspaper publications, I included it and put the name in the Thrissur info box. So I am reverting info box back to the normal condition.

Inner Voice 20:46, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Find a reference that says this, not some newspaper clipping that says there are banks. —SpacemanSpiff 21:01, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Enthiran

Hi, my most recent change to this article appears as if I might have intended to revert your edit. This was not my intention, I was reverting back based on the edit before yours and we both happened to be doing similar things at the same time. You may also want to glance at Talk:List of highest grossing Indian films where the same contributor appears to be lobbying on the same issue. Thanks, (talk) 05:32, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

No worries, warned him for edit warring on this article. —SpacemanSpiff 06:27, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Dont ever try to blame me

sir, i want to ask you on what reasons are you blaming me and trying to fear me saying you will be blocked.dou you think tha i will fear.i was providing you the false information then i want to remind you that the population of surat is given by surat municipal corporation itself and it is not estimated.they are real figures.i cannot deny the truth.we will see when census 2010 results come, then it will be clear who is wrong and who is right.if you want to block me then block me soon.don't post me messages.

TRUTH ALWAYS WINS —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dangerpatel (talkcontribs) 23:57, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Cough cough. Btw, the next census in India isn't until 2011. Also, the Surat population you keep speaking off are actual estimates, not actual figures. Elockid (Talk) 00:04, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
Glad we've got that settled that. Read all the points mentioned to you by many editors, don't come here with WP:IDIDNTHEARTHAT. —SpacemanSpiff 02:37, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

sir, kindly, can you tell me which disruptive edit i have made because of which you are blaming me.using the 2001 census population is disruptive then god bless...! wikipedia man.i think here (in wikipedia) truth doesn't work out only false estimates works.ok,sir from now i will not follow the truth only follow false here in wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dangerpatel (talkcontribs)

See WP:Truth. Consensus on all articles has been to use the WG estimates, you've been told that and yet refuse to listen and go change them unilaterally, that's disruptive. You've been educated and warned on this issue. —SpacemanSpiff 16:54, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

ok sir, point noted and understood.i didn't knew that.sorry, for that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dangerpatel (talkcontribs) 17:04, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

sir,

  • Are the indian cities Ahmedabad and Surat A-1(tier-1) cities. And can you tell me from where have you taken the figures of metropolitan population of surat, which is 6.3 million.i am unable to find any source for it.thanks..

—Preceding unsigned comment added by Dangerpatel (talkcontribs)

What are you trying to do here? The references don't say they are A-1 cities and you change them? I'm seriously struggling to understand your objectives here. —SpacemanSpiff 19:51, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

sir, you are saying that i have edited ahmedabad and surat as A-1 cities..what the hell...man!.i saw it and totally surprised me.so i had written you this to make sure.....And you re blaming me...revesly....do you have a proof....... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dangerpatel (talkcontribs) 13:01, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

If this and this (after you were reverted on the earlier edit citing the source) weren't done by you, then why are they made from your account? —SpacemanSpiff 13:06, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

sir, i am totally surprised after seeing this edits....because i personally didn't did it......i don't know who is doing this.....sir is it possible that someone can edit..with my account....i am worried if someone is doing that ....possibly with my account then i would be blamed for that...please help —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dangerpatel (talkcontribs)

Sorry, but that's unlikely and if you're claiming that someone else used your computer when you were not looking that still leaves you responsible for the edits. And please stop removing your signature, either add four tildes (~~~~) yourself or let sinebot's addition stay. —SpacemanSpiff 16:23, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Deletion of image from my uploads.

Hello Spaceman. I came to know that all my uploads have been deleted fully based on other users stand, including you - against me. Spaceman, you are such a experienced guy in wiki. And I urge you to take this based on its purest merit. I also do edit ONLY based on truth and merit. Understand spaceman, why you and me are here. To do a work that benefits other users under the norms/standards. The ONLY mistake you misunderstood me when I added that jayalalitha.jpg image claiming my work. So immediately you came to conclusion and decised that this guy is fake and pre-assumed all by yourself. Spaceman I seriously pleadge you to take it. kamal and sivaji.jpg, illayaraja.jpg, anbazhagan.jpg were all from my collections. I give you all freedom here. The only reason that makes me to again & again raise this - because truth is on Myside. Spaceman you doubting me I am hardcore fan motivated guy and all my work are dubious at its best. Based on my works and contribution you can have a idea about me and but that all perception (mindset) and not the original.

I would like to know from you soon that I wish to upload them again - since they are my work. ஸ்பேஸ்மேன் ஸ்பிஃப். நானும் உங்களை போல் ஒரு மனிதன் தான். தயவுசெய்து என்னை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளுங்கள். மிக்க நன்றி !!

Ungal Vettu Pillai (talk) 02:53, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Let's be clear about this, you do not own the copyright to movies unless you can prove otherwise, therefore you can not release movie stills to the public domain. You've already been explained these things before and these images have been discussed here and at commons. If you upload these or any images violating our copyright policy once more, you will be blocked. —SpacemanSpiff 04:02, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
sounds naive. may be he needs an "affectionate" rebuke. --CarTick (talk) 04:07, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
We're past that stage now. See latest deletion discussion, even Sodabottle has gone beyond that stage. —SpacemanSpiff 04:10, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
Yeah. no more good faith for this guy. He makes impossible claims. He says he took a photo in 1981, when (according to his user page) he was not even born. When cornered he says a close friend took them. He even claims that he was at the Marudhanayagam poojai when elizabeth II visited chennai in 1996 and took photos of the event. By his count he would have been 12!. But the worst of the lot are the devar magan screen captures.--Sodabottle (talk) 06:16, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Hello spaceman. I would like you to hear this on truth as its only merit. The photo illayaraja.jpg and anbhazhagan.jpg which was uploaded by me and holds no copyright claim as it was created by me; I would like to mail you that with your email account. Check that 100 times how much ever you want. Do all that you want. You will come to know about the truth. Spaceman remove any image if I have created on you and see me just like an other regular wiki user, please. Dont again see that I haven't told kamal & sivaji.jpg - so it means that is not mine. You guys still treat it as a movie still and so I leave it there itself. But to my knowledge it is also one of images solely owned by me. Help me.

Ungal Vettu Pillai (talk) 12:23, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

This is the last time I'm going to respond to you on this topic, if you continue to upload images with false tags or claiming copyright on images that you don't own, you will be blocked.—SpacemanSpiff 12:28, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
spaceman I am saying I will mail you. Because you are the one raising question on it. Check those how many ever times you want and do what you want on it. You are not at all considering that itself. Then it clearly shows your attitude and rudeness and not letting to interest of others opinion. I wont upload it here before you or others verify -- understand & note that. You are totally using your power and not letting users like me. This is not good.
You check it or give to others to check or verify. You mistaking me for one mistake I did claiming that jayalalitha.jpg. But even after explaining on that & others telling you, why are you hitting me. Be straight here.

Coimbatore

Spiff, can you remove the edit protection for coimbatore? IPs do a lot of good for that article. Even those who mistakenly add the Gounder claim do good edits. I have it in my watch list, so i will take care of the disruptive edits.--Sodabottle (talk) 08:43, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

Ok, if you're fine with that, just that most of the cities are just reverts and nothing else for the past week. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 08:46, 16 November 2010 (UTC)
Coimbatore has bouts of IP activity but atleast half of them are good. last month alone one IP did a good realigning of the article, another caught a minor error i had introduced into the administration section and there is one regular copyeditor who pops up now and then to fix mistakes in coimbatore related articles. So there is a nice IP following out there for cbe articles.--Sodabottle (talk) 08:49, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

Spaceman Spew

Dear Non Resident Tamilian in California,

Thank you for your kind message:

This is your last warning; the next time you violate Wikipedia's biographies of living persons policy by inserting unsourced or poorly sourced defamatory or otherwise controversial content into an article or any other Wikipedia page, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. —SpacemanSpiff 04:53, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

You are a wiki user and so am I. You have been REPEATEDLY reverting my good-faith edits on A. Raja. You are either a misguided self-righteous wikilabrador or a remotely allied DMK sympathising turtle or both. Either way, can your highness throw some light as to how the Comptroller and Auditor Generals report tabled in the Indian Parliament on the 17th of November 2010, (the pdf of which is in the public domain incidentally), is "poorly sourced defamatory or otherwise controversial content".

Expecting an intelligent response to my query.

In Peace and Brotherhood, Joy

ho Spiff, when did you join the DMK. Can i join too ;-). And Joy, You can use the CAG report to say what the CAG report says - for instance "the CAG reported" or the "CAG alleged" not present the version of CAG as the truth. You need to familiarise yourself with how we use sources here at wikipedia. Snarkiness and abuse will get you nowhere--Sodabottle (talk) 06:25, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

Regarding Mahabharata

Hi, please donot break wiki policies, which clearly states that we can add data from reliable sources. You are clearly breaking these policies. Please donot misuse your sysop flag--Luky (talk) 08:01, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

THere's no misuse of sysop flag, you're edit warring here, three editors have disagreed with your addition on the talk page and you continue to add it, so please stop. —SpacemanSpiff 08:03, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
What is wrong in my addition it is from reliable sources and according to wiki policies, Wikipedia is not a hub of 3 to 4 people, If my addition is according to wiki policies then it should not be reverted on the basis of consensus. Some 3 to 4 established users have clearly Hijacked this article, please follow wiki policies otherwise there is no sense to say Wikipedia an encylopedia--Luky (talk) 08:11, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
You have been told time and again that you are cherry picking sources, adding undue content to the lede without any explanation of the counter arguments. Just because a statement is referenced, it doesn't mean it belongs here. Discuss on the talk page and if you have consensus, you can add it back. Else, you're just editing disruptively. —SpacemanSpiff 08:14, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
you have explained me that this english wiki project is a project of people like M.Witzel which have no idea what he is saying and writting.I am also a bureaucrat of another wiki project but we donot do such kind of behavior to our users in our project.Thank you very much, I will appeal at arbitration committee jimmy or wikimedia stewards if they also donot agree then this is my last edit on this en language project, Regards--Luky (talk) 08:27, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

Naah, Actually some user shared their veiw that on english wiki it not possible to push date of any indian epic however by giving reliable sources.I tested the same here. You are a very hard work indian Admin and we have a lots of hope from indian sysop here.Anyway controversy of Mahabharata article is not so important here, so I will not waste your and mine time any more.Cheers--Luky (talk) 08:53, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

Pyarelal 'We had an unspoken bond that continues even today' “Rajesh Khanna was lucky for us and we were lucky for him too. From the 1969 Do Raaste to the 1986 Amrit, we gave hits together both as films and as music scores. We used so many singers for him - Rafisaab, Mukeshji, Mahendra Kapoor, Amit Kumar and Mohammed Aziz among them - but he would always request us to fit in Kishore Kumar wherever possible. I recall how Kishoreda was very reluctant to sing Waada tera waada in Dushmun and was insisting we get Rafi for it. We surrounded Kishoreda and Rajesh Khanna winked at Laxmi(kant) and me and told Kishoreda that in that case we would scrap the song. And he immediately changed his mind! “Rajesh had an unspoken bond with Laxmi and me. Even today, he sometimes calls up to recall the great times we had together and says, “Yaar humne kya kaam kiya hai!”. When we went on our first overseas concert tour in 1984, he came and danced to three songs. He was very particular about his music and would take a tape home if he could not assess a song. He would then give his feedback after a day or two. But if he liked a song at the sitting, he would loudly shout “Wah! Wah!” in appreciation. After he heard the mukhda of Mere dil mein aaj kya hai from Daag he stopped us from making him listen to the first antara and told Yash (Chopra)ji that it would be a hit! “It was God’s blessing that we came up with such a vast range of hit songs for him, including in his home productions Roti, Aashiq Hoon Baharon Ka and Chakravyuha. Incidentally, he had a stake in Mehboob Ki Mehndi too. He had great interest in music and a terrific sense of melody too. His music is dominated by Pancham (R.D.Burman) and us and we accepted Shakti Samanta’s Anurodh only because Rajesh Khanna had had some misunderstanding with Pancham then and did not want to work with him.”

Please don't start new sections, and discuss on the talk page. As far as Tina Munim goes, your interpretation doesn't matter, what the source says does. If you don't know that you're reverting improvements to the article without actually sourcing any info, then I really can't discuss with you. —SpacemanSpiff 19:04, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

semi protect

make the rajesh khanna article semi protected so that idiotic edits do not take place... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shrik88music (talkcontribs)

I don't think the article merits protection at this point; however, I've edited the article so I can't take action on that even if I agreed with you, so you could try asking at WP:RFPP if you still think the article needs protection. —SpacemanSpiff 06:55, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Kochi page

Hello, I noticed that you have edit-protected the Kochi article. Now it is open back for editing. I have made a few changes in the article, after giving proper explanations in the edit summary. My edit diff can be seen here : [1] However I fear that some of the edits might ignite another edit war in the article. DileepKS69 (talk · contribs · count) (and his meat puppets (Mountainwhiskey (talk · contribs · count)) is trying to push only positive things about the city and is glorifying and overtoning the article. I believe it is a "my city is big and best" attitude. Hope you can monitor the page for a few more days. Thank you, --Chektomate (talk) 17:53, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

I have it on my watchlist. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 17:58, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Spaceman, I know you could be busy, and I am not being impatient or anything, but could you visit my talk page and clarify a few points I requested in connection to the warning you issued? Thanks. DileepKS69 (talk) 06:28, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

Again edit-warring ongoing in the Kochi page. Dileep and User:Mountainwhiskey wants to remove the sentence " Kochi is located 220km north of state capital Thiruvananthapuram. " Location with reference to the direction and distance from the state capital is a norm in almost all cities in India, and also as per the guidelines of Indian cities. Constant reverts are done without logging in also (IP address starting with: 115...). I hope you can pitch in to establish stability there. --Chektomate (talk) 15:35, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi, Someone moved it to "Chapa Rajput Dynasty", which i think is not right.Even google book search for it returns 0 result.I have put some link regarding the dynasty on the discussion page-title of article.I request you to move it back to its old title i.e Chapa (Gurjara) dynasty.I think very few users have watch on this article so it would be nice if you add it in your watch-lsit.Mkrestin (talk) 04:36, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Moved back to the original title and left a talk page note in response to yours. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 05:40, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Kutch Rajput to Kutch Gurjar Kshatriya

Hello !! Someone named Vikarm Singh 06 moved Kutch Gurjar Kshatriya to Kutch Rajput. citing moved Kutch Gurjar Kshatriya to Kutch Rajput: Kutch is a Rajput Clan of Gujrat and People are more familier to Rajput word than Kshatriya). While it is known fact that Kutch is name of region and not a clan. On searching I have found it is the same user who had changed Chapa dynasty to Chapa Rajput Dyansty. This is a clear case of move page vandalism by the user Vikarm Singh 06.

I need your help if you can revert it back to original name Kutch Gurjar Kshatriya. As while I was trying to move it back, name got typed as Kutch Gurjar Kashtriys. i.e. last word "s" instead of "a". I shall be thankful if you can help me changing the name to it's original title. Shall be glad to hear from you.

As I don't know where to appeal for reversion of name.R P Jethwa (talk) 05:52, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

I;m not sure what the purpose of that article is currently, it says known as "xxx" or "yyy" or "zzz" where both yyy and zzz have articles of their own. Is this three different articles for the same group? —SpacemanSpiff 17:53, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

How does one deal with repeat vandalism?

On the Benjy Bronk page, a new-ish user named Archhow repeatedly edits the birthdate of Benjy Bronk - despite there being several sources confirming his birthdate as being in 1967, this editor always changes it to 1971. There is speculation that Archhow is actually Bronk himself, attempting to conceal his true age, since all of his contributions are to the Bronk page, but I am aware that that is probably immaterial.

My question is, how does one go about preventing this type of repeat vandalism? I'm only a casual editor and would like to handle this but I don't think I have the experience or know-how to do it alone. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rockypedia (talkcontribs) 06:26, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Since this is a BLP, you can always take it to the noticeboard -- WP:BLPN or if you have reason to suspect a conflict of interest, you can take it to WP:COIN. If imdb is the only source for the birthday then it probably has to be removed. I' don't have time to look deeper at this article right now, so I'd suggest you do the former if you're sure of the sources. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 17:53, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Edit war at Kochi article

Hi SpacemanSpiff,

Can you do something about Kochi article? A group of editors, obsessed with Kochi, have been indulged in edit war over silly matters for long time. Salih (talk) 15:59, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Sigh. I protected it for a week and it's back to where it was. If I place another protection, will you be able to moderate a discussion? There seems to be discussion happening on the talk page, just that it's leading nowhere. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 17:53, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
I have been monitoring this page for a while and was aware of the protection you did. Looking at the way these editors conduct themselves, especially those who try to 'defend' Kochi (it seems they have enormous amount of energy and time at their disposal), I don't have much hope in resolving through talk. I think a topic ban seems to be in order. Salih (talk) 15:47, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

My Gosh! What is going on in Kochi page? A sudden influx of many new editors and attempts to push strong POV. 18 edits in 20thnov, and 28 edits in 21st, 16 edits in 22nd (and continuing); a total of 62 edits within 3 days!!! Apart from protection, I feel that the users should be blocked as well. Esp the one who edit without logging in (115.xx) -- Aarem (Talk) 09:32, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

You can take it to WP:ANI or WP:AN3. —SpacemanSpiff 08:26, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Hey Spiff, I'm trying to clean this up a little bit, but I'm running into trouble all over the place--I can't even read the Census. Do you know how http://www.censusindia.gov.in/ works, and can you add the proper info to the article? (There were inexplicably conflicting numbers in the lead.) Thanks, Drmies (talk) 20:42, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

  • Whaddayaknow, I just found it. Still, any help you have is appreciated. Drmies (talk) 20:44, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
Censusindia has a lot of downtime and problems with it, you just need to be lucky; also it tends to work better on IE, which is one reason it seldom works for me. Also this is a topic more suited to Regents as he's quite active in Burma related articles (this one being a mix of both India and Burma). Some sources you could use (I don't have access to an academic library now since I'm traveling) include: Bleeding Manipur (Phanjoubam Tarapot), People of India: national series (KS Singh), Tribes and castes of Manipur: description and select bibliography (Sipra Sen) and Encyclopaedia of North-East India (Hamlet Bareh). cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 07:02, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
Traveling again, Spiff? Who's looking after your dog? Thanks for the tip, Drmies (talk) 15:54, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Coimbatore

No sooner do i open my mouth and proclaim the virtues of IP editors, one comes along to edit war in the Coimbatore article :-). There is a Gounder POV pusher IP in Coimbatore who comes back to change to add Gounders are the majority in Coimbatore. He even removes the comment i have left there to ask people to wait till 2011 census numbers are out before adding the caste data. So oh ye mighty admin, please semi protect the coimbatore article for a week--Sodabottle (talk) 07:47, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Looks quieter now, will protect if it resumes. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 10:43, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
It has resumed.--Sodabottle (talk) 15:50, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
Just saw that it's been protected now. —SpacemanSpiff 08:26, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Edit protection of BMSCE

Hello, I noticed that you have edit protected the article B. M. Sreenivasaiah College of Engineering. As I have not been following any changes in the article, nor could I make much sense out of the changes in the page history, can I know the reasons for edit protection, that too for over a year? I am also on a page moving drive of major colleges in the city like PESIT, RVCE etc. Since BMSCE was edit protected, I felt that I should ask your opinion before moving it to B.M.S College of Engineering. The page's title currently reads B.M Sreenivasiah College of Engineering. Not many people know that B.M.S expands to B.M Sreenivasiah, and the name B.M.S is popular in Bangalore. So, as WP:COMMONNAME says, I felt it should be B.M.S College of Engineering.

I would appreciate it if you place a talkback on my talk page because my watchlist is way too cluttered, and I wouldn't notice an edit if it appeared there.

Good day! MikeLynch (talk) 06:58, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Well, there was spamming and stuff being added, directly copied from external websites and no one was reverting them ever and copyvios sticking in. I removed some of it but meant to go back and clean up the rest but appear to have forgotten about it. Will go back and complete that task now. And as far as moving it to a different title etc, I have no opinion. If you can watch this article, then I can remove protection from it (if I'm not around you can ask User:RegentsPark or User:Utcursch as they seem to be more active currently), it's just that since no one watches it, it's become a copyvio and advertising page. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 17:00, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

Hmm, okay. I will watch it. Will also clean up. Thanks! MikeLynch (talk) 18:08, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

I guess you have tagged the article with the copyvio tag. I will try and rewrite the article now. MikeLynch (talk) 10:19, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi spacemanspiff, thank you your consideration to Chapa Dynasty article.Could you take a look to the discussion page of this article.I think the old title (Gurjar) will be better as Gujjar is nowhere found in inscriptions.Gujjar is just a punjabi dialect of Gurjar same as Jutt for Jat.Mkrestin (talk) 20:34, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

There seems to have been some sort of copy-paste move in the history of the two articles and some sort of hist-merge might be required. I don't have the time to look in detail right now, but will attend to it in a week or so. —SpacemanSpiff 06:53, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
Okey.I posted this issue on talk page but didn't get any response.Whenever you have time, i request you to look into that.Thank you Mkrestin (talk) 14:54, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
I've asked User:Utcursch for his opinion as he's the one that converted this spelling to a redirect and he's edited this topic related area before too. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 17:20, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
Either title seems fine to me, but I think the Muslim Gujjars prefer "Gujjar" to "Gurjar". I've no problem with redirect and history merge. utcursch | talk 17:24, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
People form Rajasthan, Gujarat etc prefer Gurjar over Gujjar and people of Punjab area prefer Gujjar over Gurjar. But Gujjar has no historical background. So i think it would be much better to title it as Gurjar.Same case is with Jat article.the original form is Jat but Punjabi people prefer jatt.Thank youMkrestin (talk) 08:59, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
I think it's better to request a move at WP:RM if this is the case. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 08:39, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
I requested the move as you advised.thank youMkrestin (talk) 12:49, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Unreferenced information on Karwar page

Hi,

The page about Karwar contains content that is heavily unreferenced. To give you an example, the section on 'Languages' states Marathi but as per my knowledge, Marathi isn't spoken in Karwar. Nor does any of that info have any source which is cited. There's only 1 or 2 links which provide no information that reflects what is written on the actual wiki page about Karwar. Could you please look into it and delete information that is unsourced. --Sushilbhandarkar (talk) 01:18, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, I don't have time to go through this, but feel free to edit the article and remove unnecessary and/or unsourcable content. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 08:39, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
