Thanks for your comments. Shaivism is a branch of Hinduism that mentions Shiva as the supreme God; reference 82 mentions Yama as Yamaraj. Srikanta's views on karma are important and not mentioned in your citation. Your citation for Srikantha is not an authoritative source, as my reference. I appreciate your comments. I know what Shaivism is, but the article doesn't provide any explanation to the lay reader on the context or philosophy; that was my comment (and this was an example, it's applicable to other sections too). I missed the Yamaraj bit, should have chosen a better example, sorry about that. As for Srikantha, I didn't provide any references, I was only commenting on the usability of the references within the article and also on context. Sir, I urge you to delete my account Aryanjat on wikipedia because I'm highly unsatisfied with the admins,,,mods here. I'm new to wiki and was trying to build new articles,and edit existing ones with my concern but whenever I edit or crete new page,,someone or the other revert it or delete it,,,sad thing is this that I was editing and creating pages with valid references...and even after providing references all that was done. You know, Wikipedia is not your caste website. Read the references before inserting POV into the article. The Rajayyan ref says "...included warriors, merchants and toddy tappers in their fold." And goes on to add that the Madurai Pandyas are widely believed to form one of the sub-sects. My caste website? Excuse me. I am an editor as well. And I am trying to be as reasonable I can be rather than deleting a passage without any second thoughts. This claim thing is just irritating the nadars and they want their view in the article as well. Jats

Hey, bit new to editing Wikipedia, so I apologize if I'm not following the correct guidelines. I've been seeing the description of Jats change virtually every month. I was unaware of the whole Indo-Scythian background for some time, but did a lot of outside research (meaning not Wikipedia), and it's pretty clear that Jats are descended from Indo-Scythians and Indo-Aryans. Recent DNA studies have also helped to prove this, and an Indian researcher had attempted to visit Ukraine to study the origin of Jats, but was prevented from doing so (I believe from funding denial and ridicule). I've very much found Indians very loathe to call themselves anything but Indo-Aryan - some kind of weird pride in the word Aryan. I was slave to this for some time too. Doing a very quick run-down search on Google Scholar left me with a slew of articles supporting the Indo-Scythian viewpoint, some of which had not been listed on Wikipedia:

One article I did not link mentions the Rajputs as descendants of Indo-Scythians - Rajputs and Jats are of the same ethnic stock (I'm a descendant of Pritviraj Chauhan on my mother's side - he was a Rajput); the split between the two was in political/social disagreements (one primarily being the use of sati pratha). There are more links that I did not post. Also, Jatland (a website by and for Jats) has this:

So hopefully I might have convinced you somewhat of the ridiculousness of the absolute disregard of most evidence pointing to the Indo-Scythian descent. It's mentioned MUCH throughout the article itself, but people keep removing it from the introduction. I haven't removed the Indo-Aryan references from the introduction on Jats, because that would be false. Jats are a mixture of both groups - virtually no race/ethnic group is "pure" or unmixed. This is what I had been editing it to say. Only once did I see this correctly shown - it seems to be an edit war going on between Indo-Scythian origin supporters and Indo-Aryan supporters. Clearly, both are wrong, and both are right. It isn't one or the other, it's both. I've seen it devoid of Indo-Aryan references, and I've seen it devoid of Indo-Scythian references (like now).

The Jatland site is not a reliable source. As for the others, most of them use the Major Tod bit as their source, however subsequent research has not shown that to be the case. Indian coordinate-missing categories

You can now use the {{coord missing}} tag to use Indian states. For example, instead of adding an article to Category:Karnataka location articles needing coordinates by hand, you can just use {{coord missing|Karnataka}}, which is slightly shorter to type, will be compatible with the other geotagging management bots and tools in use, and will automatically add the article to the invisible category Category:Karnataka articles missing geocoordinate data at the same time. -- The Anome (talk) 23:38, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

Tamil status

I appreciate your bravery in dwelling into such contentious waters. As for the official languages, both Hindi and English are. I'd think that most of those examples need to go. If any I'd say Bengali or Telugu should stay (based on population) and Kashmir (based on number of official languages). Also, the official languages are Hindi and English, the constitution mandates English as an official language until Hindi is accepted as the sole official language. Yes, that's what I added to the lede of the article a couple of days ago. Of all the things wrong with that article, you caught an upper-case anomaly! According to my copy of Hermann Kulke's A History of India, the Mature Harappan period starts around 2600-2500 BCE and was at its most mature phase between 2300-2200 BCE. I'd already alerted Fowler to the need for clean-up on the article. Maybe Abecedare will get to it. Stock up on bacon and beer for the evening? —SpacemanSpiff 17:50, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
one issue which is quite clear as we speak is that India doesnt have a national language. but about the official languages, there is still confusion about the constitutional interpretation. Ramachandra Guha in his book in page 9 says
I assume he interprets Schedule 8 languages also as official. Broadly speaking, his interpretation doesnt appear wrong, but it ignores the fact the constitution gives special status to both English and Hindi. However, considering 0.5% speaker of Romansch language in Switzerland being one of their official languages, how 60% non-Hindi speakers lost their voice during the framing of Indian constitution is something very interesting. --CarTick 18:27, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
Haven't read the book and don't have it, but as far as the Schedule 8 languages go, I think this interpretation of them as official stems from the fact that they may be used in Parliamentary proceedings and governmental business and that the Union of India should ensure that translation is available for such purposes. But there's generally been back and forth with different people about whether these are "official" or "national" (I've seen both terms used quite often). cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 18:39, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
besides, some scholars may interpret official language of a particular state to be official language of India. with the false propaganda of Hindi-the national language at rest, and an ambiguous status of the Schedule 8 languages, and various Indian states adopting different official languages, I will not be surprised, if more scholars will start interpreting Indian official languages the way Guha did.
By the way, it is a great book. must read for all who are interested in Indian history after Independence. i havent read it all though.--CarTick 18:47, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

I have provided all possible references including newspaper cuttings, Pics of all awards and certificates related to article Ambarish Srivastava still it was deleted while Ambarish Srivastava is a prominent and notable person who is a best architectural engineer of sitapur who is at topmost position as well as a prominent Hindi Auther and poet, he is the first person who got the Indira Gandhi Priydarshini Award at Sitapur, although first of all this award was awarded to mother teresa so What should be the criteria of notability? and how it should be prove as per your rules? because in our country coverage in news papers are to much important than coverage in website. now i am feeling insulting myself and it appears i am wasting my valuable time with wikipedia so i can not work with wikipedia! so bye.... for ever and it is suggested that you should review your policies in future. Category:Tamil-language films

I give up. I thought I'd do a little cleanup (rm bold from actor's names), but there's too many damn movies. Do we have any other letters but A in our beatiful language? I got to Aayirathil Oruvan, but I'm calling it quits. Drmies (talk) 20:45, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

Ha ha. "அ" (IPA:[ʌ]) and "ஆ" (IPA:[ɑː]) are the most common word starters, so there's definitely going to be a lot more "A" words. But, to do what you're looking to do, you could use WP:AWB (I'm guessing you use Windows). It's so much simpler and you could handle about 300 articles in an hour (assuming only 30% are goofy). I've been meaning to do that for a while to fix all these typos and MOS issues, but I had to uninstall AWB due to some security setting on my office pc. It'll also help you get your edit count right up there with CoM in less than a few days. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 21:15, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

I've used AWB, it's good for a lot of mindless tasks like fixing typos, removing duplicate words, capitalizing, removing redundant wiki links/pipes, fixing duplicate references, mass adding categories, etc. But it gets boring as you really don't read anything, you wait for the computer to read it and tell you that "tamilnadu" should be replaced with "Tamil Nadu" and asking you to agree to that change. I'll block you for disruptive editing once you're done with all movies starting with Y, that way I can still justify that your disruption would continue to the letter Z. deal? —SpacemanSpiff 03:37, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

the above link is although a blog still it consists photographs of original award, award certificate, and pics of original news paper cuttings related to this award (coverage through print media). Unfortunately perhaps it was not visited by you being a blog but i request you please visit it and enlarge all related pics two times, i hope that you will be satisfied to visit it, you can also download all related pics for the record. Or please show me any email address so that these all certificates and coverage through print media can be sent to you. I have visited above link which is related to article ambarish srivastava, i have seen all references also after two times enlarging, i found there that all sources are reliable which i read in newspapers previously, it appears this article was deleted unfortunately. so it is requested here that it should be restored after reviewing above link. I'm still not convinced that the award confers notability; however, others may hold a different opinion. As a couple of others and I have mentioned at User_talk:Spjayswal67, the best way forward is to create the article in user space, reference every statement within the article to the respective newspaper references, once the userspace draft is done, take it to deletion review to ask if you can recreate the article. That's the best process for you to follow. You can start the article at User:Seemavibhaji/sandbox. SpacemanSpiff, I'm a bit fed up dealing with people who think they can create facts by ignoring what is widely and commonly known as official. They can add a few sources, but when I cite the largest book on Hindi cinema, "Encyclopeida Britannica"'s "Encyclopedia of Hindi Cinema", it is unacceptable. When I ask them to make a simple Google search through "Google Scholar" and "Google Book", they ignore it. When I cite reliable sources which discuss the fact that the use of Urdu is minor, they ignore it. When they add inconsequential posters with Urdu scripts, it's OK, but when I cite offical film certificates which identify the language as Hindi, it is not.

On top of that, I am now indirectly and deviously accused of attacking the Muslim community of India. I undid this post by a user as it was very incoherent and broke by message, and I'm accused. I don't think the revert was necessary, it's a talk page. That said, the whole discussion has gone beyond the realm of having any meaning, IMO, and both sides have contributed to that. Thanks for all the hard work; after I am done with the rewrite of Vedda language, I am in the process of collecting some literature on Koneswaram next. It is a bit controversial. Looks like the chronology is  ?->Non Buddhist deva temple-> Hindu Siva Temple --> Buddhist temple + place Vedda worship--> reconstructed as a Hindu temple. I have a doubt. This Photo has been uploaded to commons from english wikipedia by user sundar and points to this as the source. And the original uploader is given as Sundar. From the metadata and uploaded timestamp i believe it comes from Kumar Rajendran's collection. I believe while uploading to commons something has gone wrong. I was randomly looking for this article as I remembered a trip to Pulicat as a kid and found it didn't exist on wiki. I think a DYK is appropriate. There could be another article about the Dutch Cemetery in Pulicat or included in this one (there are two cemeteries -- one inside and one outside the fort). Oh, I don't know--there's two? This Dutchman clearly doesn't know about that. The Dutch book I got this from said "Arak", but it didn't go into detail, and 18th century spelling is notoriously inconsistent. He's been using many static IPs, that's why I was a bit hesitant to do a long-term block (libraries, coffee shops, possibly homes of other people etc). That's why I thought an SPI would probably be a better avenue to deal with this -- if it's a regularly used IP, then a long-term block, if it has other users, then probably not. 8,800 verses claim in "jaya"

there in nothing mention in mahabharata regarding this,the source that have you given does not tell about this, there is no mentioning about jaya having 8800 verses in it. Now as u mention Mahabharata (shlokas 81, 101-102),then it is not present in Critical Edition of the Mahabharata by Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute, Pune,most authentic version of mahabharata.However in gita press gorakhpur version A verse like this has been given,but its transalation given by you is wrong.Vyas actually said that there are 8800 secret verses out of 100,000 in mahabharata,which actual meaning is only known to him,sukha and sanjy.

Spiff, when we say "largest city" in wikipedia, what do we mean? by population or by land area?. For example, Coimbatore has slightly larger population than Madurai, but corporation land area is slightly smaller. From what I've seen, it refers to population. See List of largest cities in Brazil for example. It's the same statistic that's used for the rankings in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad. I reverted a change on the Coimbatore page sometime last week on this because the article said population of 930k and Madurai's said 1.2M. Don't know if either of those nos is correct, but that's what I went by. Most of our articles use World Gazetteer for the most recent estimates. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 07:35, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
By 2001 census and by 2010 world gazetteer estimates [2], Coimbatore has more population than Madurai (something's fishy about the madurai population numbers as there is negative growth from 91 to 2001 and they are using it to extrapolate 2010 numbers. i think the degrowth has to do with change in city limits). Heh, I go to do school blocks for a week, and get edit-conflicted with others who do it for a year! Just goes to say I haven't lost faith in the American education system yet! Ah yes, but if you're looking for bigger problems on the Indian cinema front, just check anytime a new image is added -- invariably, modeling images and video stills that are uploaded turn up with {{PD-Self}}. I wasn't ever planning to work on images, but I've had to delete so many copyvios and tineye doesn't even keep track of many Indian websites, so I have to go search for them to delete immediately. Oh, this image work, you're on your own (that is, I can't help you there). DYKs--it all depends. Key Largo Woodrat took a week and a half or so, some take longer, some have taken shorter. Sometimes there's a backlog, and whenever there's questions about the hook or so you can add a couple of days or a week to it. Some of the folks there are very thorough--User:Materialscientist and User:Ucucha, for instance. User:Dravecky has done a lot of good there, don't know if they're still at it. But if you want something to show up on a specific date, you can ask them--there's plenty of time until 15 August! And sometimes they plan stuff there for certain dates, like Unthanksgiving Day for instance.

BTW, I saw that week-block for the school. I do think that yearlong blocks are a bit much, so I won't disagree with you. Hey, something else, in Flag of India, should "tricolor" have a "u" in it? Drmies (talk) 17:47, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

I just rollbacked an edit by User talk:66.18.238.13 and when I went to his/her page to leave a warning saw that a bot had left a pretty serious looking final warning over a year ago. As I imagine bots can't block, and the editor is not currently active, Admin intervention against vandalism ain't the way to go, either. I've long had this gut feeling that editors and bots that leave "empty" threats just incite certain elements to "test" the system to see what happens... You have gone ahead and protected the Wisden 100 Page on account of 'vandalism' without reverting the last act of vandalism that was perpetrated there. Viv Richards was and stays the greatest ODI bat ever and SRT is at number 2. Some anon editor put SRT at number 1 which was VANDALISM. And you have gone and protected it just after. If your 'nationalistic' feelings cause you to do so be my guest and I shall have the revert I want to see effected there with the help of admins. I too am an Indian but have no feelings whatsoever in this matter.

However since you have been the one to protect it I request you to revert the last vandalism and then protect it. Richards played in an era of fast bouncy difficult tracks, zero protective gear, no batsmen-favoring rules, and extremely fast dangerous intimidating bowlers, ALL UNLIKE SRT. Also he did not have the pleasure of bashing up crap attacks like those of Zimbabwe, Kenya, Bangladesh, Namibia etc. England and New Zealand jad a hundred times better bowlers and attacks in the 70s and 80s than in the 90s and 00s; and grounds were bigger and the bats had less meat on them. As Wisden's analysis was purely statistical and so other factors were not taken into consideration, SRT was ranked 2 still behind Viv with a SUPERIOR average and SR. The more objective analysis done by the ICC ranked Viv comfortably at 1 and put SRT in his place at 12.
