Hi, I see that you are an active member of Peer-review Team .I was wondering if you guys can review all Peer review nominations in Wikipedia:WikiProject_India/Article_alerts rather than having people search this specific page to get a Peer review done? There are a lot of articles waiting for Peer Review there .Is there any need for a different page for the same? --Vinay84 (talk) 07:04, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

PR[edit]

I will be glad to take a look at it, though it will take me a few days. Thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 11:58, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Red, I noticed that Ruhrfisch just added his comments at the review page and that my earlier comments are being worked on. Would you like me to wait till you are substantially done with these before taking another look at the article, or would you prefer me to do that (essentially) now ? Either way will work for me, and its real nice to see the PR system working so well for this article. Abecedare (talk) 05:47, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good. I'll add my comments and suggestions about article organization in the next day or so on the article talk page, and will the nitty-gritty bits about grammar, MOS etc for the next round of review. By the way, I have no concerns about the pace of response to the PR comments - unlike an FAC, or even GA, there is no real deadline here. Abecedare (talk) 06:01, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Anuradhapura Kingdom[edit]

Hi, Redtigerxyz! I have a question regarding one of your comments at Wikipedia:Peer review/Anuradhapura Kingdom/archive1. Could you please let me know what you think? ≈ Chamal talk ¤ 06:19, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanx![edit]

Thanks so much for your suggestions, Redtigerxyz!! I really appreciate them. But I did not want it to rech GA-class yet. I just asked whether 2003 Afro-Asian Games is ready to be titled as a B-class article. If it is so, plz change the info in the talk page for your respective WikiProject.

Thanks again. Any more suggestions are welcome.

Incidentally, the first point you mentioned - about controversial statements. If you see the paragraph in the article, you will find numerous references, with the same number. I meant that the content of the whole passage came from that reference. Should I repeat the reference again?

Re : Kanhopatra[edit]

Hello tiger, could not find anything interesting related to Kanhopatra on jstor / springer; But I found one good journal article which can be used to improve the Vithoba temple, Pandharpur article. "The Vithoba Faith of Maharastra: he Vithoba Temple of Pandharpur nd Its Mythological Structure" Japanese Journal of Religious Studies 1988 1512-5. This also has maps of Vithoba temple, which we can create and add; I am fairly well versed with inkscape, if you want to create the SVG map images let me know. --Nvineeth (talk) 03:56, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File:Map of Vithoba Temple Pandharpur.svg has been created; Will create the other one when I get time. --Nvineeth (talk) 17:09, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed the information and speiling mistaike. --Nvineeth (talk) 17:21, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I have bolded the caption and numbers; Also reduced the empty space. Looks better now. --Nvineeth (talk) 17:34, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It will be good we can get a picture / painting or rather of a statue in any of Pandharpur's temples. --Nvineeth (talk) 07:41, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I meant probably a image like File:Vithoba Punadalik Tukaram Dnyaneshwar.jpg of Kanhopatra, if it exists somewhere. --Nvineeth (talk) 16:16, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bali Padyami[edit]

Hi!

I have drafted an article at User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Tungnath for posting on DYK under the Special occasion holding area for the Bali Padyami festival coming up on 19th October 2009. I thought that you, as an expert on Hinduism subjects, should have a look at it for copy editing and any addtions for nominating it with a suitable hook on DYK. Pl let me know what you feel about it.Thanks--Nvvchar (talk) 08:17, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the prompt action. Your editing is very fine. Shall I move it now to main space? I suggest the following hook for your nomination on the DYK with an img (in infobox).--that acording to Hindu mythology, Bali Padyami commemorates victory of god Vishnu in his dwarf incarnation Vamana, defeating asura king Bali, and pushing him to the nether world? You are welocome to use a different hook--Nvvchar (talk) 14:42, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Should we not move it today to Mainspace and then DYK under the Special occasion holding area (atleast 7 days in advance)?--Nvvchar (talk) 14:36, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Shall I, as usual, make it a joint artcile?--Nvvchar (talk) 02:49, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have moved the article to main space. I would appreciate your jointly nominating it on the DYK. One more suggestion for the hook. ...that Bali Padyami (pictured)is the third day of Dipavali, the Hindu festival of lights celebrated in honour of the notional return of the demon (asura)-king Bali to earth? --Nvvchar (talk) 03:05, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'll see what I can do... but after running DYK yesterday for 24 hours plus I was thinking of giving it a rest. Lots of room for others to contribute in approving hooks etc and filling the prep areas. I guess you have already done this? I'll go and look Victuallers (talk) 16:12, 1 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I.m very confused. The hook seems to say "today" and it said that before two days ago ... also if it loaded now then it may go today as I won't be checking its progress. Can you clarify? Victuallers (talk) 16:20, 1 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have left some comments on your submissions at the DYK suggestions page. Gatoclass (talk) 21:46, 1 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If we add your "hook" to the Did you know queue now, then it will be shown on 2 November and not today (1 November). It's only added to the queue and not actually added to the Main Page yet. I hope that clears things up for you. Jolly Ω Janner 22:27, 1 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou for providing the cite Redtiger. I have now promoted your articles, which will appear Nov. 2. However, in future please ensure your submissions conform properly with DYK rules - specifically in this case, the rule which states that The nomination's hook must contain a fact cited in the article. In other words, if your hook states that festival x begins on day y, you must include that fact in the article, with cite, so that reviewers can check it and confirm it. You can't expect reviewers to go ploughing through all your references trying to figure out which one if any contains the appropriate info. Hope that helps to clear things up. Regards, Gatoclass (talk) 06:39, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you've got the dates, but they aren't cited. Anyhow, it's all resolved now. Just as long as you cite them properly next time. Thanks for the submissions. Gatoclass (talk) 06:47, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ila (Hinduism)[edit]

Using Devanagari script for differentiating between Ila and Ilā should be avoided, since Devanagari has no monopoly over Sanskrit, Sanskrit was written in Brahmi, Siddhamatrika and Sharada scripts in ancient and medieval period, and later almost in all modern Indian scripts. That's why I used IAST, the standard alphabets for Sanskrit transliteration. V.S. Mishra has given the reference of RV X.95.19 and SB XI.5.1, for the rest I am adding links to the Griffith's translation soon.Joy1963 (talk) 18:08, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Devanagari=Sanskrit?[edit]

In any article, if the word Devanagari is replaced by Sanskrit, it is a misnomer, that you should also agree, as a script can not be equated with a language (just as Cyrillic is not Russian). If in any other article also, this is written, it is better to correct them.Joy1963 (talk) 18:54, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orissa -> Odisha[edit]

The re-naming doesn't seem to be official yet. Despite the headline, the TOI article says:

... the change in nomenclature was approved by the Union Cabinet on Wednesday without discussion. It will get Parliament's nod soon enough.
The proposed change will now require an amendment to the first and eighth schedule of the Constitution which is likely to come up in Parliament soon.

I suggest we wait before we begin using the proposed name on wikipedia; perhaps a sentence can be added to the Orissa article mentioning this proposal though. As far as Oriya goes, I wonder if GOI even has the standing (as far as wikipedia goes!) to rename a language, although the alternate name is again worth mentioning. Thoughts ? Thnx[edit]

Noticed u r banner for citations in the article Tourism in Puducherry Thanks for the review. i have added citations and references. please review the article. thanks Varun_swm

Just adding here, instead of at the PR since adding to the thread there may get confusing.
I know that Lokprabha is a notable magazine, and that is the reason I added the parenthetical "redlink!" at the PR. It was supposed to mean: "Wow! This is a redlink, and needs to be an article"; and certainly not, "This is a redlink and therefore not a reliable source". I realize now that my personal shorthand was too cryptic and open to misinterpretation.
That aside, the point with regards to Maharashtra Times and Lokprabha is not that they are not reliable sources per se, but whether they are authoritative sources on a subject that is not news, current affairs, or even a contemporary personality. This distinction is not important on wikipedia in general, but in recent times can be a central concern at FACs (for example, see discussion here, or at this failed FAC). As you say, some of the issues can be resolved by reducing redundant citations to popular media sources, but I think for the successful (and painless!) FA, we will need to show that all the central and high-quality sources on the subject have been consulted by the authors. This is especially true since the article is relatively short and only limited information on the subject is available.
Let me know if I can help with any of this; if you are looking for a particular book/article, I can try searching up my library for it. Cheers. Abecedare (talk) 16:29, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Badrajun[edit]

Hi, Redtiger, It is quite some time since I saw any message from you. Thanks for assessing the article. I am outside the country for the last six weeks and will be back in India early December. Is there any Hindu festival in Dec or Jan which we could write about or any Hinduism article.?

Thanks for the suggestion. I will work on the Hinduism articles. With regard to Ladakh articles, we can work with Himalayan Explorer. He is presently out on 'Thanks Giving' Holidays and will be back next week. I have posted five artciles on DYK jointly with him, including Ladakh monasteries, and one is in drafting stage. I have been trying to expand my draft artcile on Rishiruna with more refrencess but not successful so far. Can you find some useful links and fine tune it? I had posted it on my user sand box quite some months back.--Nvvchar (talk) 15:49, 26 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nice work. I'm a bit tied with expanding articles on districts at the moment but I'll see what I can do. I'd be happy to collaborate. Himalayan 11:43, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fantastic article. Congrats. I am sure you will take it to GA and then FA. There was some mix up in the Ratha Saptami article. I created it immediately after your suggestion but by the time I realised it was already on DYK posted by Himalayan Explorer. I hope you dont' mind. Same thing happened with my artcile on Adalaj Stepwell by some other user nominating it on DYK. I have expanded the article on Ganesh Jayanthi on your user page Titwala. I will add more from my book sources after I return to Delhi. It should be posted only as a special occassion article. I saw your message on Himalayan Explorer's talk page.--Nvvchar (talk) 18:09, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Um, a bit of confusion I think here. The same thing did not happen with me as the Adalaj article and I would never dream of nominating an article and not crediting the other writer. As far as I'm concerned Nvvchar was/is happy to collaborate and has requested that I nominate articles on a number of occasions which I'm also happy to help out with so moving the article into the mainspace once finished shouldn't be a problem... Oh, I'll take more note in future of the articles you are working on so you get credited as well.. Did you have something more to add to the sun festival article? If so I'll gladly add your name to the DYk nomination... Himalayan 20:31, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes Dharmacakra is correct. Himalayan 11:58, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On the image posted by you in Himalayan Explorer's talk page, some info and references would be available in my draft article on Architecture of Sikkim at User:Nvvchar/Sandbox 4. --Nvvchar (talk) 00:42, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have uploaded the Kanhopatra svg image. Pls let me know the corrections / improvements desired. I feel that the guard is not required, just Vithoba & Kanhopatra will suffice... let me know if you want to remove the guard. Cheers, --TheMandarin (talk) 11:47, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reworked on Vithoba, just purge the browser's cache and check the image. Also probably this flickr image will be of interest to you. --TheMandarin (talk) 14:43, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Incorporated your suggestions, have brightened the ornaments on hands, feet to strike a contrast. Feel free to let me know any corrections desired. --TheMandarin (talk) 15:45, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I have changed the color of uparna... I was under the impression that its a part of dhoti, since most of the pics on the net show same color. --TheMandarin (talk) 07:52, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GA for Ila[edit]

Thank you for informing me. I'm reading the article right now, and I will have my comments up soon, no later than 30th evening. Liqudlucktalk 00:43, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your responses! I have replied to your questions and left further comments through the next section. Liqudlucktalk 06:21, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm extremely sorry I was unable to reply earlier. I had a large paper due on Dec. 4 and so forced myself to go on a wikibreak for the last few days. Thank you for addressing my comments and making improvements to the article; I have a few last comments (replies to your comments, citation formatting). After those are addressed, I'll fix a few grammar errors and pass. Liqudlucktalk 19:38, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have finished copy-editing and have found several concerns which were either created over the course of the GA or that I had overlooked before. Please check the review and address the comments marked with New. Thank you! Liqudlucktalk 02:59, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, is this article worthy of becoming a GA ? Do you see any improvements required. TheMandarin (talk) 14:37, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the suggestions, for few of them, I need to refer back to the book, which I don't have right now. --TheMandarin (talk) 12:52, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. This is Dioxin Freak. Is there a way you can contact me directly please?

I've managed to not discover the method of communication with other editors and I need some assistance, vis a vis a user you are already familiar with.

many thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dioxinfreak (talkcontribs) 16:12, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for getting back to me, Red T. I am part of a research and editing team on the page of Richard Tarnas that has become the scene of a low-brow revert war involving a user named Goethean that you're familiar with. There seems to be an agenda here rather than the pursuit of an accurate, useful encyclopedia entry. I know these things happen all the time but this is my first time actually seeing it happen, so I'm looking around for some suggestions. Tarnas is part of the astrology initiative, but that group seems to be quiet as of September.Dioxinfreak (talk) 00:45, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Much appreciated. I just followed links; we were really researching Goethean. The main benefit is that now I won't take his antics so personally. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dioxinfreak (talkcontribs) 19:09, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I purposefully placed the image of the top floor next to where it discussed it in the text... Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:31, 5 December 2009 (UTC) Also found a nice image of the prayer area. You may want to insert it. Don't worry I don't expect to be credited for Thikse, it is yours and Nvvchar's work. Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:33, 5 December 2009 (UTC) right|250px[reply]

Yes. Don't remove them yet. I'll see if I can reorganize the images to avoid clutter. Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:35, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Its better we keep those images but find a way to shrink them down in size and organize in a side box to avoid clutter. It can be done. I'll leave you to it, Dr. Blofeld White cat 13:19, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What I suggest is remove the fresco image. And then align the three remaining underneath the other three which you've neatly but to the right side. Try it, it might work Dr. Blofeld White cat 13:21, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We haven't kept all the images, but I think most, if not all of the images we currently have in the article benefit the article information-wise. Dr. Blofeld White cat 13:29, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm happy with that now, it looks tidy. Now if we could find an image of a festival at Thikse this would round it off! Dr. Blofeld White cat 13:31, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, shame about that lama quarters image I thought that was pretty valuable. If you could find a way of including it somehwere I'd be perfectly happy with it. Dr. Blofeld White cat 13:55, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You are an extremely fussy person and I don't want to work with you. Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:01, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well your last post with the bullet points you came across as a fussy know-it-all to be honest. I know it isn't the lamas quarters it is the assembly hall but you know what I mean. You had previously removed those photos and then you object to me removing them again. It seems I can't win. You've had the privelage to visit the monastery so you do whatever you think it valuable in describing it. To be honest I think three people working on an article at once is too much and edit conflicts and disagreements tend to crop up. If you ever need any help with anything let me and I'll be glad to help but I tend to work best on my own or with another editor. But whatever project you are working on, if needs be I'll fully support you and help if you require it. You've done a great job on that article, but I do think images provide a valuable source of information and we should keep a balance of using them to their full potential and avoiding clutter. Best regards. Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:20, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Restore them if you wish. I just though 3 and 3 would work better than 3 and 2 in terms of alignment! Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:29, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I think with a bit of work Thikse Monastery could be promoted to GA. You have many GAs to your credit. Ot would be very nice of course to have a GA on a monastery! Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:25, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'll try a different shade of yellow then. Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:46, 6 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, although Alchi is currently about the village. It is a notable village, so if so I suggest we split the monastery from the village article. I believe the same is also the case for Hemis. Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:27, 6 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's OK as long as it is split into Alchi Monastery. Hemis and Hemis Monastery should also be seperated. If you want to split them and standardise this I am content for you to do so. Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:37, 6 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
