Try to avoid personal attacks[edit]

As I'm sure you know, your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jeepspeed were completely inappropriate and uninformed. Please try to assume good faith and respect other editors in the future. Thanks. Kuguar03 (talk) 22:39, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You said "An article being poorly written is no reason for deletion", though that was not the reason given. You said I "should show more discretion in nominating articles for deletion in the future" though the nomination was perfectly valid. It was ultimately declined, but that's how the process works. I did nothing wrong by nominating it, if editors didn't nominate because they might get declined the system wouldn't work. The status of the creator has nothing to do with it. Given that, is there some interpretation of what you said that doesn't involve assumption of bad faith? I must be missing something. I wouldn't attack another editor in a public forum for any reason, but definitely not for completely made up ones. Kuguar03 (talk) 00:54, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't view that as a personal attack, since comments like that are seen quite often at certain places on Wikipedia and don't really attack anyone. From what I understand, Piast93 is simply telling you to please be more careful in the future and review the article in depth. So no, I don't believe it involves an assumption of bad faith, since we all miss some things some times. A simple reminder to check again at most. Thanks for the input, but we're clearly talking about completely different things. Nominating an article for deletion on a topic that I (and at least one other editor) consider to be non-notable in a topic area I'm very familiar with is an action to be praised, not criticized. I did "review the article in depth" and the suggestion I didn't is an assumption of bad faith. Criticizing me for constructively participating in the building of wikipedia is a personal attack. Unfortunately you're completely in the wrong on this issue, and if you really don't see that I don't know what to say. I'm prepared to ignore a lot of bad behavior as long as the ultimate goal of building wikipedia is achieved, but if you continue with this sort of thing you'll eventually cause some one to seek administrative action against you. Richard Olney[edit]

Thank you for your recent comment on my talk page, regarding the edit I made to the article on Richard Olney (food writer). I am familiar with the introduction to editing, and my edit was intended in good faith. It is common practice, in line with the majority of style guides, to use "gay" instead of "homosexual" when describing a person's sexuality. See Gay#Terminology. Possible sock-puppets of Gnetwerker[edit]

You and I have both used Huggle to revert IP revertions of a sockpuppet banner from User:GlasgowKiss and others. However the original message was put there by User:IronDuke who is himself a listed sock of User:Gnetwerker and is not an Admin. My original suspicions were that the IPs were also socks but the position may have been quite the reverse. Any thoughts ?  Velella  Velella Talk   20:15, 15 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I actually don't remember that...lol. I got home recently, so I'm feeling a bit fried right now. Also, I've reverted a decent amount of vandalism, which makes it difficult to remember past instances where I've reverted vandalism. While we're all grateful for the wonderful work you've been doing on Wikipedia since your name change, would you mind linking to your old account from your userpage as well? I'm taking that as a yes, and that Volunteer Marek also knows of this. One of you can inform me by email if you like. It's just that many users in the area have disappeared under bad circumstances. If you are just an editor formerly in good repute, then that is fine; if you are User:Saturday or User:Loosmark or someone else who left under other circumstances, then you need to dislose this. I'm sorry for taking awhile to reply. I've been a bit stressed in RL, and have been wrongfully accused of acting in bad faith before, so my first reaction was to leave an uncivil comment. Sure, not a problem. Plus, the fact is that the Mariinski Palace is only for ceremonial purposes. The real politics take place at Bankova street, where is located another presidential residence as well as the building of Presidential Administration. well, you undo a change I did in Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard because I miss to add an edit summary, I don't understand because you didn't apply the same rule to other people who also did changes without entering the edit summary. I am sure you just forget to apply the same rule everywhere, so, to help you, in case strangely you will not globalize the rule I propose to do that for you ;-). Welcome to our first issue of WikiProject Poland newsletter, the Monitor (named after the first Polish newspaper).

Our Project has been operational since 1 June, 2005, and also serves as the Poland-related Wikipedia notice board. I highly recommend watchlisting the Wikipedia:WikiProject Poland page, so you can be aware of the ongoing discussions. We hope you will join us in them, if you haven't done so already! Unlike many other WikiProjects, we are quite active; in this year alone about 40 threads have been started on our discussion page, and we do a pretty good job at answering all issues raised.

It was a mindless mistake. I caught myself, and reverted my edit to 70.137.129.225's talk page, but, for some reason, failed to do the same to yours. Thanks for letting me know about my mistake. Odd history on vandalism-warning on IP user[edit]

I got an edit-conflict with you posting a vandalism warning and didn't notice. I saw that my signature wasn't on the end, thought, oh! Piast, if you examine the history of edits, I think you, like I, might begin to smell a sock. Salvio blocked IP 58 as you'll see, for continued disruption. Who is this new IP who is so angry and insulting? I've asked Salvio to examine this, and the insulting edit summary was reinstated so Salvio could see it. Unjustified Revert on Software_testing[edit]

Consider reconfiguring your Huggle instance. My small wikilink fix got reverted.

I don't know since when automatic reverts are popular in wikipedia and how an algorithm can decide which edits are vandalism and which aren't, but I dislike this development.

For our freedom and yours

Welcome to the second issue of WikiProject Poland newsletter, the Monitor (named after the first Polish newspaper).

Our Project has been operational since 1 June, 2005, and also serves as the Poland-related Wikipedia notice board. I highly recommend watchlisting the Wikipedia:WikiProject Poland page, so you can be aware of the ongoing discussions. We hope you will join us in them, if you haven't done so already! Unlike many other WikiProjects, we are quite active; we get close to a hundred discussion threads each year and we do a pretty good job at answering all issues raised. Last year we were featured in the Signpost, and our interviewer was amazed at our activity. In the end, however, even as active as we are, we are just a tiny group - you can easily become one of our core members!

In addition to a lively encyclopedic, Poland-related, English-language discussion forum, we have numerous useful tools that can be of use to you - and that you could help us maintain and develop:

  • we have an active assessment department. As of now, our project has tagged almost 83,000 pages as Poland-related - that's an improvement of over 3,000 new pages since the last newsletter. Out of which 30 still need a quality assessment, and 2,000, importance assessment. We have done a lot to clear the backlog here (3 years ago those numbers were 1,500 and 20,000, respectively). Can you help assess a few pages?
    • assessing articles is as easy as filling in the class= and importance= parameters on the talk page in the {{WPPOLAND|class=|importance=}} template. See here for a how-to guide.
  • once an article has an assessment template, it will appear in our article alerts and news feed, which provides information on which Poland-related articles are considered for deletion, move, or are undergoing a Good or Featured review. Watchlisting that feed, in addition to watchlisting our project's main page, is a good way to make sure you stay up to date on most Poland-related discussions.
  • you can also see detailed deletion discussions at Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Poland (which is a good place to watchlist if you just want to stay up to date on possible deletions of Poland-related content)
  • we have also begun B-class quality reviews on our talk page, and if our activity increases, hopefully we will be able to institute our own A-class quality reviews. As of now, we have about 500 C-class articles in need of a B-class review. If you'd like to help with them, instructions for doing B-class reviews are to be found in point 10 of our assessment FAQ. In addition to this automated list, you are also encouraged to help review articles from our B-class reviews requested list found here.
  • also, those articles will be included in our cleanup listing, which allows us to see which top-importance articles are in need for attention, and so on. We have tens of thousands articles in need of cleanup there, so if you ever need something to do, just look at this gigantic list. (I am currently reviewing the articles tagged with notability, either proving them notable or nominating for deletion; there are still several dozens left if you want to help!).
  • did you know that newly created Poland-related articles are listed here. They need to be reviewed, often cleaned-up, occasionally nominated for deletion, and their creators may need to be welcomed and invited to our project if they show promise as new authors of Poland-related content.
  • we are maintaining a Portal:Poland
  • automated Wikipedia:WikiProject Poland/Popular pages lists the most popular Poland-related pages from the previous month(s)
  • Breaking news: we are looking for a Wikipedian in Residence for the New York City area. See Wikipedia:GLAM/Józef Piłsudski Institute of America for details.

I was wondering if anybody who actively works on Estonian, Lithuanian or Latvian articles, would be interested in launching your own Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Baltic), based on the Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic) and Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea would be to try to bring about 1000 article improvements and creations on this region as an enjoyable challenge and potentially things like National Contests with prizes. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

New WikiProject Socialism membership system[edit]
