GA Sweeps update

Thanks to everyone's efforts to the GA Sweeps process, we are currently over 90% done with only 226 articles remain to be swept! As always, I want to thank you for using your time to ensure the quality of the older GAs. With over 50 members participating in Sweeps, that averages out to about 4 articles per person! If each member reviews an article once a week this month (or several!), we'll be completely finished. At that point, awards will be handed out to reviewers. As an added incentive, if we complete over 100 articles reviewed this month, I will donate $100 to Wikipedia Forever on behalf of all GA Sweeps participants. I hope that this incentive will help to increase our motivation for completing Sweeps while supporting Wikipedia in the process. If you have any questions about reviews or Sweeps let me know and I'll be happy to get back to you. Again, thank you for taking the time to help with the process, I appreciate your efforts! --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 00:14, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

I didn't spot your comment until today - I didn't edit much during the holiday period, and missed it on my watchlist. I've replied - perhaps you could pop back when you get a moment. Regards, BencherliteTalk 14:11, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

Is there a reason

for this rollback? The newbie edit appeared okay: he added a legit new RfA. Pcap ping 15:35, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

If I may ask, what was the error in my edit? I noticed you responded here, but the only reason I updated it was that it was already updated manually when I saw it [1] so I personally saw no problem to update it again. -38.116.200.85temp (talk) 15:05, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

February GA Sweeps update

Progress as of January 2010

Thanks to everyone's efforts to the GA Sweeps process, we are currently over 95% done with around 130 articles left to be swept! Currently there are over 50 members participating in Sweeps, that averages out to about 3 articles per person! If each member reviews an article once a week this month (or several!), we'll be completely finished. At that point, awards will be handed out to reviewers. Per my message last month, although we did not review 100 articles last month, I still made a donation of $90 (we had 90 reviews completed/initiated) to Wikipedia Forever on behalf of all GA Sweeps reviewers. I would like to thank everyone's efforts for last month, and ask for additional effort this month so we can be finished. I know you have to be sick of seeing these updates (as well as Sweeps itself) by now, so please do consider reviewing a few articles if you haven't reviewed in a while. If you have any questions about reviews or Sweeps let me know and I'll be happy to get back to you. Again, thank you for taking the time to help with the process, I appreciate your efforts! --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 02:43, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

GA Sweeps

Hey ho! I am putting myself forward to participate in the GA Sweeps.... I have only recently begun to review articles for GA rating, but that is because I wanted to make sure I was properly familiar with the MOS and the review proceedings. I have a Masters in English Lit so know how the English language works ;), and now, after 8 or so months am familiar with wiki coding, sourcing, etc. So I am more than willing to help, as I feel the GA process to be one of the best things about WP. Please let me know what I can do if you want my assistance. Thanks! Familiae Watt§ (TALK) 11:49, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for getting in touch. Just to let you know that I am undergoing a username change from Familiae Watts to Junipers Liege, so will join under Junipers Liege. :) Familiae Watt§ (TALK) 14:54, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Wikimedia Canada

I am interested in working to get Wikimedia Canada up and running. Have posted over at [2]. I guess the first thing we need to do is to get a small group of people who are will to do the paper work / set up a bank account / do so coordination. I feel one of the first thing we could do as a group would be to begin pushing the government to begin easing up on copyright over government created works. Anyway drop me a note if interested.Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 17:58, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

GA Sweeps Completed!

Thanks to everyone's amazing efforts in February, we have reviewed all of the articles and are now finished with Sweeps! There are still about 30 articles currently on hold, and once those reviews are completed, I will send you a final message about Sweeps process stats including the total number of articles that were passed and failed. If you have one of these open reviews, be sure to update your count when the review is completed so I can compile the stats. You can except to receive your award for reviewing within the next week or two. Although the majority of the editors did not start Sweeps at the beginning in August 2007 (myself included), over 50 editors have all come together to complete a monumental task and improve many articles in the process. I commend you for sticking with this often challenging task and strengthening the integrity of the GA WikiProject as well as the GAs themselves. I invite you to take a break from reviewing (don't want you to burn out!) and then consider returning/starting to review GANs and/or contribute to GAR reviews. With your assistance, we can help bring the backlog down to a manageable level and help inspire more editors to improve articles to higher classes and consider reviewing themselves. Again, thank you for putting up with difficult reviews, unhappy editors, numerous spam messages from me, and taking the time to help with the process, I appreciate your efforts! --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 02:35, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

Dang it, yes, you got the right word. I guess I was so excited with the thrill of Sweeps being over, I sent that message out too quickly without re-reading it. Thanks for pointing that out to me. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 05:42, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
You'll need to ask Jennavecia, she's the one in charge of administering the awards. I believe she said she was busy a week or two ago, but maybe you can remind her. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 05:21, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

April 2010 GAN backlog elimination drive

WikiProject Good Articles will be running a GAN backlog elimination drive for the entire month of April. The goal of this drive is to bring the number of outstanding Good Article nominations down to below 200. This will help editors in restoring confidence to the GAN process as well as actively improving, polishing, and rewarding good content. If you are interested in participating in the drive, please place your name here. Awards will be given out to those who review certain numbers of GANs as well as to those who review the most. Hope we can see you in April.

A sincere thank you from Wikiproject Good Articles

On behalf of Wikiproject Good Articles, I would like to express our gratitude to you for your contributions to the Sweeps process, for which you completed 59 reviews. Completion of this monstrous task has proven to be a significant accomplishment not only for our project, but for Wikipedia. As a token of our sincere appreciation, please accept this ribbon. Featured portal candidates

Hello there is see that you are willing to help with Featured portal candidates, I have been trying to nominate Portal:Music of Canada for the past few months but its just not working for me!...I see that many others nominated portals are also having this problem. They are4 simply not showing up on the nomination page. Not sure what we are all doing wrong but for some odd reason a few of us just can get this done...I see 3 portals are listed but notice that there are many more portals that people have tried to nominated but only those 3 are showing up!!...Any help here would be great!!...Portal:Music of Canada and Portal:The Rolling Stones and Portal:Michael Jackson and Portal:Star etc....Moxy (talk) 17:26, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

If you are still involved with the Featured Portal system, perhaps you would care to do something about this. <Looks higher up the page> You seemed to ignore my message some weeks ago. Of course, if you are no longer involved there, perhaps you would update the documentation so you don't get bothered with these messages in future. Regards, BencherliteTalk 00:15, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

My apologies to you too about the tone of this earlier message, then. Perhaps, though, you will have seen Cirt's comment that I was understandably frustrated with the process. As it stands, the portal has not been an example of Wikipedia's finest work for many, many months, and my attempts to highlight this since December through the FPR mechanism indicate to me a considerable gap between the standards set out in the criteria and in the FPR instructions and the standards as they actually work. Perhaps this is something that can be considered independently of the outcome of this FPR. Regards, BencherliteTalk 00:44, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

WP Environment in the Signpost

WikiProject Report would like to focus on WikiProject Environment for a Signpost article to be published April 19. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Also, if you know anyone else who would like to participate in the interview, please share this with them. Have a great day. -Mabeenot (talk) 04:41, 12 April 2010 (UTC)

Yes, but not this week as I have university exams. Perhaps next week (or you want this to be a lead-up story for Earth Day)? OhanaUnitedTalk page 17:05, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
We were planning to publish the article to coincide with Earth Day. We won't actually publish the Signpost until Tuesday, April 20, so I can leave the interview up until Sunday or early Monday. I've also asked a couple of your fellow members for their response. -Mabeenot (talk) 18:51, 12 April 2010 (UTC)

I'll leave my message here, since it talks about the same issue. The article I contributed to was Food waste in the United Kingdom. I'd like to one day make a GA topic out of it and the other food waste related articles, but time's too tight at the moment! MasterOfHisOwnDomain (talk) 16:12, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Please Investigate Problems on BP (British Petroleum) Wikipedia Page: Intentionally Burying Section on Gulf of Mexico Oil Disaster, Changing Name of Oil Disaster to Hide it

Any attempts to correct this (following reasonable Wikipedia guidelines) are met with aggressive reverts and edits. Intentional spinning and manipulation of article in favor of BP? Can this task force investigate this?

Currently there is no easily recognizable section on the current Gulf of Mexico Oil Disaster, surprisingly since the US Government has held BP responsible. Instead the "Oil Disaster" Section in the article keeps being given obscure (hard to recognize) names (as if someone is trying to hide the section from the public).

That section also keeps getting pushed to the bottom of the article (attempts to bury it)?

It's as if the BP Public Relations department has staff people who are aggressively spinning the article. Could this Task Force investigate this?

Now that you mention it, I do recall that. However, it doesn't make much sense to highlight GA if the FA review is still so uneven (why highlight tier 2 if tier 1 isn't universally regarded?) bahamut0013wordsdeeds 11:41, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

I have closed the discussion and marked it as reaching consensus. But what will be our next step? Should we get someone to use a bot and add them? Or add them manually (which will be a extremely tedious task even if we distribute it to multiple users)? OhanaUnitedTalk page 03:03, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

Well, if there is a template like {{tl:Featured article}} then we might as well get stuck into it while the bot is being authorised. People will notice and then plug it to ttheir own article, they won't miss an opportunity; many update their userpage as soon as their article gets FFAed, etc. A few spam messages to wikiprojects will get things real quick and they won't wait for the bot to be authorised before stamping ttheir stuff! I guess something needs to be organised so that the interwikis show up at GAs as well. YellowMonkey (vote in the Southern Stars and White Ferns supermodel photo poll) 03:23, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

Portals

Hi OhanaUnited -- I've just been discussing with Cirt various potential ways of drumming up more interest in reviewing portals, at both portal peer review & featured portal applications, as both processes seem to have stagnated over 2010, largely from lack of reviewers. I'd noticed that you've been pretty quiet in portal-related areas over the past few months, but reviewing your talk page you seem to be still actively involved in the process. Would you be happy for me to have a go at some of the strategies mentioned there? Regards, Espresso Addict (talk) 02:50, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

Thank you very much for signing up for the July Backlog Elimination Drive! The copyedit backlog stretches back two and a half years, all the way back to the beginning of 2008! We're really going to need all the help we can muster to get it down to a manageable number. We've ambitiously set a goal of clearing all of 2008 from the backlog this month. In order to do that, we're going to need more participants. Is there anyone that you can invite or ask to participate with you?
