Hey - don't be put off by any perceived abruptness of the part of User:Krash. Sometimes people can come across as rough - but I'm sure he means well - I think you have probably stepped on a pet project of his (Magic)! Keep editing your articles and contributing! RE: Magictimeline and things

Hi Mgm, I'm contributing to Project Magic, and I've already written some articles on effects plus a list of conjuring terms which someone linked in the Magic box which was cool. Was that you or PhillipO or someone else. How did you do that? It was Magic!

Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia's magic coverage. Anything between curly brackets is a template so it can be found at Template:Magicbox. It has an edit history like any other article. From a quick glance it appears Philip didn't add it, and I didn't either, so I'm not sure, but I do know you'll be able to find it with this additional info.

Anywayz, I noticed that the magic timeline is blank. What are you expecting here? Like a list of key dates in Magic history kind of thing. If so, I can do that for you, just let me know.

Yes, it's basically a rundown of important dates, I initially copied the box from the aviation project, so checking Timeline of aviation may be a good idea. History of magic should provide a consise prose article discussing the most important points from the start with Dedi to Houdini, Robert-Houdin and Copperfield to name a few.

Also do you want some more effects on the list of magic tricks because some magicians are saying Wiki is "what" not "how" and they don't want to share anything, mainly cos they are selfish, but I believe information should be available to anyone who wants to look it up. What do you think?

That's a tough one. If you dig in my talk page archives, you'll find a discussion I had with someone about the King levitation. It's hard to protect an idea from being stolen, as it cannot be copyrighted, but it is protected as trade secret. Magicians have a good reason to be greedy. They're income depends on the secret being kept and I'm sure you'd be angry too if your effect which you worked 5 years on to perfect was suddenly revealed to the world without anyone paying you a cent. If we were to expose magic tricks here, we'd put magicians out of work and that's not a good thing. Another problem with writing articles about magic tricks is that you need trustworthy and verifiable sources, so it's not always possible to write about an effect even if you know how it's done. If you want to write a step-to-step how to on magic effects, Wikibooks is indeed the place to be, but effects do need a place in the wiki. I recommend starting with effects that are generally know and common amongst many magician's (Balducci levitation, cups and balls, saw lady in half, regular levitation, etc) and not the property of one specific performer (like the King Levitation). Sometimes users don't have enough information on or interest in a particular subject to make extensive edits to an article. Therefore it can be more practical or convenient to tag an article instead of making the appropriate fixes.

I appreciate that you like the SAS article which I started. Not to blow my own horn or anything, but I think that bullet catch is a good example of how a magic trick article can strive to mature. I've started other articles, but I won't list them here. I'm not making any claims that how I format a page is considered in any way to be the "correct format". -- Krash 14:00, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

Elevator levitation

I removed the description of how the trick is done again. If you actually read it, it is claiming that you can levitate using an ordinary magnet hidden in your shoe. While the trick exists, the method described is clearly bogus. Not knowing the true method, I can't replace it with anything useful. --GraemeL ^(talk) 23:55, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

Thanks. I'm not a magician myself, I just have a number of the articles watchlisted because they tend to get vandalised. Re-booting Magic WikiProject

I'm contacting you because you are listed as a participant at the Magic WikiProject. There is a draft for a new version of the main project page up for discussion and I would welcome your comments or suggestions. I wrote the draft because I was encouraged to try to do something to breathe some life back into the project and also to address some long standing problems that seem to dog it. The draft is posted at Wikipedia:WikiProject Magic/draft magic project page. Since starting to edit at Wikipedia in February I've contributed 25 new articles to the Magic project and added material to many more. I would really like to see this thing get going again but I need at least a few people to give some sign of encouragement if I am to continue. Magic secrets - discussion underway

Hi! As a member of the Wiki magic project, I thought you might be interested in contributing to a discussion about magical secrets on Wikipedia. There has already been agreement as to the removing of unsourced magic secrets, as detailed here. However, I think consensus needs to be reached as to what should be done after the secrets are removed. Should the secret be placed on the talk page? Or is just a comment as to why the secret was removed sufficient? The discussion is taking place at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Magic#Removing the method - what next?, and if you are able to take part, that would be great.
