Welcome![edit]

Hello, Jack.houghteling, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you created or edited was Draft:Jack Houghteling, which appears to be an article about yourself. Creating an autobiography is a common mistake made by new Wikipedians—as this is an encyclopedia, we wouldn't expect to have an article about every contributor. Your user page, however, is a great place to write about yourself, making sure to stay within user page guidelines. Just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit it normally.

The page you created about yourself may well be deleted from the encyclopedia. If it is deleted and you wish to retrieve its contents, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page. If your contributions to an existing article about yourself are undone and you wish to add to it, please propose the changes on its talk page.

February 2021[edit]

Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment, or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

I knew this standard message existed somewhere. I can't explain it any better! Also, when you reply you do not need a new title each time. Instead we indent. You'll soon get the knack Fiddle Faddle 13:36, 4 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you're wondering where to start...[edit]

I started seriously by finding things that interested me, and lookkng them up on Wikipedia. WHen I couldn;t find them I started to create them. My first article was in the days before one could draft outside main article space with ease. I created a very poor article at Raven's Ait which woudl have been nuked on sight today. If you look at the history tab, startimg with the oldest and moving forward, you can see my halting and excruciating first steps.

And I learned.

I hope I learned well. I am still learning.

Find things, everyday things, that interest you, that are absent from here. Work them up into drafts. Fiddle Faddle 14:10, 4 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Can't flippin wait! And that place-based article is a very useful reference!

Also, looks like I sort've figured the comms system out (baby steps, baby steps)!!!

Your draft article, Draft:Jack Houghteling[edit]

Hi Liz,

Understood! Thanks for the heads and completely understand.

So in the future I can either A) request its un-deletion or b) create a new file separate from the old one?

Hope you're having a great weekend!

Thanks again, Jack

Understood and thanks! Per my note from 21st, I aimed (best I could) for maximum vocal objectivity and third-party corroboration. Appreciate the note and look forward to hearing what you think. Jack.houghteling (talk) 19:57, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
