Congratulations!

Mazal tov!
I just found you through your GA nomination, and thought I'd come over and wish you a happy occasion... You may even be back from your honeymoon by now but mazal tov, anyways! Bobnorwal (talk) 16:31, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

Verity

Thanks for the review; I'll get to it very shortly, possibly tonight if I can do it without too much digging. I've been all over the place over the last week or two so not really had time to do much on WP. Also, I'm working on Ranji, which is a headache if you are going to do it right, and there is a lot of reading around to do. So thanks again, and I noticed your good news earlier this month, so a belated congratulations! --Sarastro1 (talk) 20:49, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

I've done everything so far. --Sarastro1 (talk) 11:33, 20 August 2011 (UTC)
All done now I think. I'll have a look at Hextall, no problem. --Sarastro1 (talk) 17:59, 22 August 2011 (UTC)
I've made a start and left comments on the talk page. I've also copy-edited, but please get rid of anything I've done that you don't like. --Sarastro1 (talk) 19:04, 22 August 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick work, and I'll continue with Hextall this week as well. I don't know what's happening up here either. I haven't followed it as closely as I'd have liked this season for various reasons, but no matter how strong a Yorkshire team has been since 1968, collapse, disaster and disenchantment are never too far away. No overseas player until we panicked and got Rudolph back, under performing stars like Shazad and Rashid, nothing from the batsmen except Bairstow (who now looks like going to the England one-day wicketkeeping graveyard along with all the others) ... We seem light on bowling and batting. It could be worse, but we could really do with people like Verity and Bowes and Hirst and Rhodes and Trueman and so on! Ah, glory days... --Sarastro1 (talk) 20:07, 22 August 2011 (UTC)
Done with Hextall now. Looks pretty good overall, just make sure I've not messed anything up through my ignorance. Can't see too many problems except in the playing style section. I've watch listed it for the moment, and I'll keep an eye out. I think you did a PR on it, but maybe another one before FAC? It would be good for any of the PR regulars to have a look and it's always good to have more eyes on it. But looks pretty close to FA to me. --Sarastro1 (talk) 21:05, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

Ron Hextall GAN complete! Congrats.

With feedback concerned WP:MOS and your recent changes, I have finished the GA process, and listed Ron Hextall at the Sports and recreation section of the list of good articles. Hopefully, you'll see that little plus sign at the top the page soon by a bot or something-- I actually have no idea how it gets there! Congrats on making yet another GA. You've got quite the reputation, I can see! I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 16:00, 21 August 2011 (UTC)

Good Article promotion

Congratulations!
Thanks for all the work you did in making Ron Hextall a certified "Good Article"! Your work is much appreciated.

In the spirit of celebration, you may wish to review one of the Good Article nominees that someone else nominated, as there is currently a backlog, and any help is appreciated. All the best, – Quadell (talk)

And Jake Seamer also! Well done. – Quadell (talk) 13:21, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

I finally got round to nominating this at FAC. Any comments would be appreciated after your excellent GA review. And yes, I am reliving past glories as we are losing. Again. --Sarastro1 (talk) 23:37, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

Herbert Reed listed at Redirects for discussion

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Herbert Reed. Since you had some involvement with the Herbert Reed redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion (if you have not already done so). SamuelTheGhost (talk) 21:26, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

Alexander the Great edition triple laurel crown

Your majesty, I am pleased to award the coveted Alexander the Great edition triple laurel crown to Harrias, particularly on articles relating to cricket. This special award recognizes the rare editor who contributes at least 15 pieces of Featured content, 15 Good articles, and 15 "Did you know?" entries. Thank you for your contributions to the project! SMasters (talk) 09:30, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

Hello Harrias. As the original nominator of this FLC has decided to retire, I thought I'd just see the nomination through. I've done a few bits and pieces (including fixing the sorting, embarrassing that I never spotted that myself..) but it would be helpful if you could spare a few moments to come back and re-review. I know you've reviewed many of these lists and I would really appreciate a "detached" view on it so I can polish it up to FL status. No rush, but if you could pop by, brilliant. All the best, The Rambling Man (talk) 18:00, 15 September 2011 (UTC)

Hey Harrias, just a quick note to thank you for your quick return to the FLC and for your comments. I think I've worked on most, if not all of your concerns, let me know if I've resolved your issues when you get a chance. Take it easy, The Rambling Man (talk) 22:24, 15 September 2011 (UTC)

Could you also take a look at this one and provide your feedback? I've come back after a while and am hoping to complete a few lists while I'm here. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 20:08, 15 September 2011 (UTC)

Sorry. You are quite right & I should have known better, having recently taken part in a discussion about the Central Lancashire League. I got confused because a part of that discussion was the suggestion that in fact the CLL should not be included in CRIN. My bad. - Sitush (talk) 21:43, 16 September 2011 (UTC)

GA Review?

Just wondering if you could review the Canada's Wonderland article for GA status. Please let me know if you are willing to do the review. Thanks!!!--Dom497 (talk) 20:29, 19 September 2011 (UTC)

Grinding and gnashing of teeth...

I hadn't quite thought of it like that, but now you come to mention it, maybe I should cross the border. But then again, maybe not. And yes, we are down. And I actually thought we had a chance this year... I have mixed feelings about the winners, but on balance, better them than Warwickshire IMO, and it was nice of you to roll over for them on the last day :) Now to see if you can be runners up on the wider stage! How many is that now, anyway? --Sarastro1 (talk) 22:45, 20 September 2011 (UTC)

I think we could blame them all. Rashid was poor after the first few games and Shazad never turned up. The batting was dire and we had several who were brilliant last season just... fading horribly. And the young bowlers never stepped up to make up the shortfall with Bresnan missing and the others ineffective. So, lots of key players missing in action. Bairstow does look good, but no doubt we'll lose him now, as you might with Buttler. How much longer do you think Trescothick will keep going? And the list looks fine to me; given there are other lists which are theoretically covered by articles, I don't see a problem with this one. --Sarastro1 (talk) 23:05, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
Came across this chap when I was doing Mold; another one of your lot, with some very familiar names! And wouldnt he have been one of Herbie's lot? At the moment, the whole article is just a straight copy of his Wisden obit. It's not a copyvio I don't think, as it is out of copyright, but it leaves a nasty taste, all the same. Pity. And I would have loved to have done a clever comment about even in 1900 Somerset coming second, but he was actually the third bowler called for throwing that season after Mold and Fry. Never mind. I see you are still on course to be runners up in yet another tournament! Not that I'm bitter, and resent your success at all... --Sarastro1 (talk) 23:26, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

Created now. I just need to figure out how to work {{crw}} to add a few more teams (are you aware how?) -- apparently Young England women's cricket team also had ODI status and played (quite often) against England women's cricket team! Hope to get the 5w hauls lists up soon too. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 19:46, 21 September 2011 (UTC)

I have no idea how/why I put the date in that format, I normally use the {{dmy}} template, so can't for the life of me figure this one out. The player red links on this one are quite few, I should be done with them tomorrow. I'm hoping to get a couple more women's lists done by the end of next week as I too expect to be caught up with off-wiki stuff soon. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 20:01, 21 September 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the review, I've replied on the GA talk page. Nev1 (talk) 22:05, 24 September 2011 (UTC)

Fernandes

I've got a little bit in the "Complete record of West Indian Test Cricketers". Most of it is dry stats, but a few bits, all of which is on page 46. "'Maurice' Fernandes chief contribution to the history of West Indian cricket came when he led his side to their first Test match victory...." "Fernandes had played representative cricket against England seven years earlier [than 1930] and, despite a bout of malaria, scored over 500 runs (34.86) on the 1923 tour. And in 1925&ndash26;, he made 120 for British Guiana against Freddie Calthorpe's touring team to secure a draw for the home side. But as with so many top players, by the time the West Indies were admitted to Test cricket, Fernandes was past his best. He struggled in England in 1928, but achieved his main moment of glory before his home crowd in Georgetown in 1930...[Description of the game] Fernandes wisely rested his bowlers in preference to enforcing the follow-on. His decision reaped rich rewards as Constantine took five for 87 in the second innings to sweep West Indies to a decisive first win. Despite overseeing that historic victory, the West Indies selectors continued with their practice of rarely picking players outside of their home territory - due in the main to economic considerations - and Fernandes' Test career came to an abrupt halt." Then it mentions scoring a century against Barbados in the next season. If this is any good and you want to use it, the full cite is:

Lawrence, Bridgette; Goble, Ray (1991). The Complete Record of West Indian Test Cricketers. Leicester: ACL and Polar Publishing (UK) Ltd. ISBN 0951486225.

Not much, but it might give a bit of context. And it may be worth mentioning that he was white, as any modern readers would probably assume the West Indies captain was black. And there lies a long story! On a West Indian theme, I'm going to have a stab at Constantine next, when I can summon up the motivation. Somerset look handily placed, but is it my imagination that no-one over here seems to be interested in the competition at all? --Sarastro1 (talk) 16:50, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Nothing on Fernandes directly. However, Constantine was the first black captain (albeit very briefly) in 1935, Headley was the first official captain in 1948 and Worrell the first full-time captain in 1960. I think these should be easy to ref and if Constantine/Headley/Worrell was the first black captain (depending on your definition of what makes a proper captain), all others before that were white. Also, several sources (e.g. C. L. R. James) mention that all captains before this were "white". However, I'll admit I'm not sure about how hispanic would fit in as no-one seems to mention hispanic players. --Sarastro1 (talk) 17:35, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Thanks

Just wanted to thank you for cleaning up the references at Ghadames raid. I'm in the process of securing a DYK for it, and that was one of the concerns raised. Regards, Lothar von Richthofen (talk) 22:53, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

Somerset cricketers

I'd be guided by your expert knowledge of Somerset cricketers and personally I'd be happy with whatever you think best. If you are worried about what the inclusion criteria should be, why don't you put a note on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Somerset asking the other project members what they think?— Rod talk 20:12, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

Thanks it will be interesting to see what others say. I have added the GA & FA articles to Portal:Somerset so they should appear as part of the random selection occasionally. If there are others which have achieved GA or FA (or FL) which I haven't included feel free to add them (or let me know & I'll do it as the syntax can be awkward).— Rod talk 20:58, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

Hello Harrias, sorry to bother you but some discussion has arisen at this FLC about the way in which Indian/Pakistani names etc are represented in cricket scorecards, and more importantly how they're represented here on Wikipedia. I certainly claim to be no expert so would appreciate some advice there if you'd be so kind. Cheers, The Rambling Man (talk) 17:44, 11 October 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments. It's something I've always wondered about...! The Rambling Man (talk) 19:11, 11 October 2011 (UTC)

Nice work! But surely this bit can't be right: Surrey and Yorkshire each won six of the first thirteen championships, but thereafter the champions diversified, with all but two of the member clubs winning by the outbreak of World War I. By the outbreak of WW1 there were 16 sides in the Championship, but I'm sure that as many as 14 hadn't won the official Championship by that time. Those counties who hadn't include Derbyshire, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Somerset, Sussex and Worcestershire. Even by WW2, of those counties only Derbyshire had won it. JH (talk page) 18:07, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

Yes, that's better. :) JH (talk page) 20:03, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

Misleading titles on cricket articles

The title of this article, Australian cricket team in Bangladesh in 2005–06, and other similar articles is misleading. Australia played in Bangladesh in April 2006. So why is 2005 mentioned in title. This and other similar titled articles are inaccurately named. Plus perhaps a better name for some articles and cats would be "200x in English cricket" rather then "200x English cricket season" Djln--Djln (talk) 19:09, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

Created a new Article

Hey Ben. Just wanted your advice and feedback on a new Wiki that I have created. Does it meet Wiki standards? Does it suffice? It's a new Wiki and I will be posting more content about it in the next few days. I am a graphic novel enthusiast (love the genre) and am naturally excited that India is waking up to Graphic novels and this Wiki is about a particularly good graphic novel company. Would appreciate your comments and feedback (and help!) Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Varunr/Level10_Comics Varunr (talk) 14:58, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Somerset 2009

I've not been around much and may be off and on for a few days, but I'll certainly have a look. However, when I've done a GA or PR on an article, I tend to hold back until some other people have commented in depth. But if you can get anyone to review it, it looks in pretty decent shape! Sports articles seem to really struggle at the moment. --Sarastro1 (talk) 21:33, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
