28th January 2018 - Teenage Fairytale Dropouts vandal[edit]

When you have successfully reverted the IP's edits - make sure you put the recent IP on this casepage:'Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Teenage Fairytale Dropouts vandal.

I appericiate your work on battling the vandal.

Malmsimp (talk) 11:47, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Malmsimp: Why? I had been doing so faithfully for quite some time, but it has been made clear that the IP ranges are too wide to rangeblock without causing collateral damage, and nothing else useful has been done with the information from what I have seen. I'll continue to play Whack A Mole with TFD for the foreseeable future, but unless there's something seriously afoot to stop the vandalism at its source, it's clear that lengthening the list for its own sake is not a productive use of my editing time. Thanks for checking. --Finngall talk 21:37, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

On the case page - place the recent IPs on the top on "Confirmed and suspected accounts" Malmsimp (talk) 10:38, 30 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Malmsimp: I can only assume that you hadn't looked at the edit history of the page, else you would have seen that I am quite familiar with the procedure to add IP addresses to a list. My TFD reverts are usually well-marked as such--if you feel that continuing to add to the list will make any difference in devising a long term solution to this LTA, it should be no problem to find those edits in my contribution history and compile the list yourself. Thanks. Have a good day. --Finngall talk 15:10, 31 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Mohamed Aamer[edit]

Hi, I have googled him, he is actor with small roles in famous TV series and many Magazines and Newspapers talks about him and his works, I think he has enough notability --Ibrahim.ID 00:50, 17 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Finngall, This is PROD is the second PROD and it is not an act of closing. The first was closed as delete. The article has been recreated again. When I PRODed the article, on the entry of AfD page, it should the whole '1st discussion thread and the result" instead just show the 1st PROD on the right side window. This second PROD has yet to be closed. Please help to reinstall back and should I miss anything I have not known, please advise. Thank you. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 02:58, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Finngall, the above is the 2nd PROD. The first was vote close with delete. The same subject has been recreated for such I raise the second PROD. What is the reason for the revert? CASSIOPEIA(talk) 07:16, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@CASSIOPEIA: You are not following the process correctly, and you're making a mess as a result, which I am merely trying to clean up. First of all, you are not doing a PROD--you are are nominating the page via Articles for Deletion, and if you do not know the difference between the two processes, then you should stop trying to do either. Further, in the case of an AfD, once a discussion is closed, you are not supposed to edit the discussion page further, as noted on the discussion page itself. If you wish to nominate the page for deletion a second time, then you need to create a new discussion page, as noted in WP:AFDHOWTO which I referred you to in a previous edit summary. Finally, it appears that the page curation tool which you are using is not designed for second and subsequent AfD nominations, so if you are relying on the tool, please stop and do the nomination manually instead as per the instructions.
I am not arguing for or against deleting the page. But if you feel it should be deleted, then either do it right, ask for further assistance, or don't do anything at all. I'm willing to help, but please don't do anything more until you have read the appropriate policy pages. Thank you. --Finngall talk 07:26, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Appollogies for using the wrong term. I meant AfD. I have written to you and asked for assistance and answer and I didnt not receive it so I AfD the second time. If my tool is not designed for 2nd AfD then I wont do the AfD, as it seems it cause such displease of messing up which you need to clean it up if I do it manually which I might do it wrong. Thank you. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 07:34, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Finngall and CASSIOPEIA. I don't know if the Page Curation tool can handle AfD noms of pages that have previously been through an AfD, but I believe that Twinkle can do such noms properly, for future reference. If my help is wanted in the mechanical task of formatting a proper AfD nom for this page, I would be glad to provide it. I have no opinion as to whether it should be deleted, but I note that the previous AfD mostly cited WP:CRYSTAL as a reason, which apparently no longer applies. Notability may be a reason, of course. Thgank you for thinking of me in this connection. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 12:51, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Finngall and DESiegel, Thank you for the info and reply. As it stands now, the notability of the article has yet to establish as promoter has not yet announced the event and no sources could be found to support such claim. However, to say that, the event will eventuate in 3 months from now as and sources would be made available by press by then. I stand down from nominating the 2nd AfD of this article as I have caused some mess which was not my intention in the first place. Thank you both of you of your time and assistance. Have a good day. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 13:32, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@CASSIOPEIA: Thanks. Yes, I use Twinkle these days, and it is equipped to handle AfD nominations after the first. But I used to do such things manually, without handy-dandy tools, partly because it gave me a better grounding in how these processes are supposed to work. Nifty scripts are nice, but you might be well-served to do some tasks "the hard way" a few times before relying too much on the tools whose ostensible purpose is to make those tasks easier. For example, I use another tool for deletion sorting, but having done this via manual edits for a while previously, I was better able to catch and fix an issue caused by the tool not quite doing what was intended. Anyway, thank you for your understanding. Feel free to come back here for advice, and happy editing. --Finngall talk 14:34, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Finngall, Gratitude. Your advice is noted and recommendations are agreed to. To know the core basics and its applications are valuable. I will study and give it a try and would "trot" back here should I happen to make a big mess and in need of assistance. Have a lovely day Finngall. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 02:47, 16 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A thank you[edit]

Thank you for cleaning up my nomination of the article on Elizabeth Anne Blaesing for deletion. I wish Wikipedia would simplify the process so it does not require a PhD in computer coding to do basic tasks. Such is life.Browntable (talk) 15:58, 18 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Finngall, I could be wrong but its seems like you didn't even read my edits. The linked posted was to the parent company of that franchise. If you look at that website it is part of the website for that company. You also undid updated information which as been cited from a reliable source. Thank you.

Deletion Sorting[edit]

Hello, thanks for helping out with the Deletion Sorting process for articles that were recently nominated for deletion. However, please use this process sparingly because the deletion project pages can get overloaded. For example, you added both Crack Music and Sleishman to the Bands and Musicians sorting page, but neither of those is actually a band/musician article that was nominated for deletion. The first is a song and the second is a company. The deletion sort pages are frequented by people who have expertise on a certain topic, and Bands and Musicians in particular tends to get overloaded with actual bands. AfD listings on off-topic items can be a distraction, so please be frugal in this sorting process. Thanks. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 17:39, 6 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Doomsdayer520: If I have been applying the delsort process incorrectly, I apologize, but I had nothing to do with the above AfDs, and on a glance at the history it doesn't look like I have touched Bands and Musicians this year. If there are other edits of concern, than I would appreciate a clarification. Thank you. --Finngall talk 17:50, 6 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Now we have a mystery on our hands: see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sleishman. I actually meant to contact the person called GameInfirmary on that page, but upon clicking the TALK link next to that person's name, it comes here (User talk:Finngall). You might want to check that out. So I apologize for the confusing message above but perhaps there's a silver lining and mis-linked talk pages can be fixed. Have a nice day. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 17:57, 6 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Manners[edit]

You've overridden an edit I made, apparently to remove vandalism. Next time, contact the editor of more recent changes, apologise, and ask them to repeat their edit. Or make your reversion manually. Talk about rude. Tony (talk) 07:33, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Emmanuel 'Manny' Cohen[edit]

Hello,

Thank you for your message. I am new to Wikipedia so your help is much appreciated!

The page I edited has been written purely from fact, and all the text I wrote was from my research online. Does your message mean that the article won't be accepted?

CassieFoster100 (talk) 11:51, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi i found that you had previously reverted content removal of the page. So, would you please give the general warnings after you revert vandal. It would be helpful for us in future.  TheRedBox (Talk) 04:11, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Emmanuel 'Manny' Cohen[edit]

Hello, I would like to re submit a draft of the above page that was deleted for checking.. would you be able to help me with this? Many thanks, CassieFoster100 (talk) 16:20, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@CassieFoster100: I'm capable of helping, though it's not my strong suit. It's possible that Mr. Cohen is notable enough to merit an article here, but please remember that this is an encyclopedia, and that articles should strive to maintain a neutral point of view, with the primary sourcing for the material therein coming from references which are independent of the subject. I honestly didn't check the sources you provided in the previous iteration of the article, simply because it was so overtly promotional that it would have required a complete rewrite to be acceptable regardless of any other factors.
This need to maintain neutrality is why we strongly discourage people from writing or editing articles if they have a close connection with the subject, or otherwise have a conflict of interest. My employer has an article here--I don't touch it with a ten-foot pole. I will state again that if you work for or on behalf of Mr. Cohen and/or his company, and you are receiving compensation for any contributions here, you must disclose that affiliation as per the Terms of Use which you agreed to upon creating your account.
That said, you are free to start a new version of the article at Draft:Emmanuel (Manny) Cohen where it was before, provided it is considerably more neutrally worded--if it is not subtantially different from the previous iteration, it will be subject to speedy deletion all over again. Let me know if you have further questions. Thank you for your time. --Finngall talk 22:33, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

WP:UAA reports on users with no edits[edit]

Generally, there is no reason to report usernames with no edits whatsoever. Per WP:UAAI: "Wait until the user edits. Do not report a user that hasn't edited unless they are clearly a vandal. We do not want to welcome productive editors with a report at UAA, nor do we want to waste our time dealing with accounts that may never be used." The exceptions are obvious hate speech or names that attack a living person/Wikipedia editor, those are blockable even without any edits, but other run-of-the-mill violations need not be reported unless and until they at least attempt to edit, and you should be able to clearly explain what the problem is if it is not immediately evident.

For whatever reason, every day dozens, if not hundreds of accounts are created that never make one single edit. It is our responsibility as admins to conscientiously review every report a user makes at UAA, so we have to check for contribs, deleted contribs, and tripping of the edit filter for every one of these reports, only to find out there's nothing there and therefore no problem to be solved. That's time that could be spent doing more productive things, but you basically obligate admins to do it by making such reports. Beeblebrox (talk) 21:31, 25 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Delete[edit]

Please tag all the articles for deletion to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of international cricket five-wicket hauls at the Riverside Ground instead. It's not closed. ImmortalWizard(chat) 22:45, 17 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@ImmortalWizard: If you wish to add further pages to the existing nomination, you are free to do so yourself, providing you make sure to link back to them at the AfD discussion page, per Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion#How_to_nominate_multiple_related_pages_for_deletion. --Finngall talk 23:03, 17 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Bir Tawil - Kingdom of the Yellow Mountain[edit]

Thank you so much. There was no vandalism, we recall facts with documents, Bir Tawil is now under the rule of the Yellow Mountain Kingdom. There I sat in the United Nations for that. All Arab newspapers have published it Asad0152 (talk) 21:44, 20 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Asad0152: Wikipedia is not for things you and your friends made up in school one day. --Finngall talk 21:48, 20 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Finngall talk: Oops!!?, I am a media person. This news is widespread in the Middle East and I have thousands of news links. Asad0152 (talk) 22:06, 20 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Asad0152: If the "news [was] widespread" and there were "thousands of news links", I would have been able to find them myself. Even the most rudimentary of Google searches shows that your "Kingdom" is no different from the numerous other claims on the territory as a micronation (noted in the article itself), and should be taken no more seriously. If you wish to contribute positively to other areas of the encyclopedia, you are welcome to do so, but further attempts to add false information will be reverted. --Finngall talk 22:37, 20 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

My edit is not disruptive.[edit]

My edit is not disruptive. Theta persei was registered under the name HooLooLoo-Dd.

There is a registration number and there is evidence that it has been registered under this name. The first few edits I made I didn’t properly cited but in the most recent one I did properly cite it so I would like for you to stop removing the edit. Kriliokonc (talk) 22:59, 24 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Kriliokonc: Star naming is handled by the International Astronomical Union, as Lithopsian has already noted. The IAU has no connection with any "name a star" company. *I* could give a star a name, put in a book, publish it, and send it to the Library of Congress and it wouldn't mean a thing to the IAU.
Also, please see Wikipedia's policy on edit warring, particularly the three-revert rule. Your addition to the article has been reverted by no fewer than four different editors, and persisting to add your star name to the article without further discussion on the article's talk page will be considered to be disruptive editing and put you at risk of being blocked even if your claim was true. Please cease and desist from editing the article at this time. If you must continue pressing on, please open a discussion on the article's talk page rather than editing the article itself. Thank you. --Finngall talk 23:52, 24 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I see this but the IAU does not own the universe nor do they own the star. Their name is no more important than mine. There is documented information regarding the name that was given to the star on their part and on my part. The name should be recognized. Kriliokonc (talk) 00:04, 25 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Kriliokonc: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and as such the information therein needs to be based on reliable sources. The IAU is a reliable source. I think you'll have a hard time convincing more experienced editors here that your star registry is a reliable source for the name of any star other than those already widely recognized by the astronomical community at large. Feel free to file a query at WP:RSN if you wish to try, but don't get your hopes up. --Finngall talk 01:42, 25 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Teenage Fairytale Dropouts vandal[edit]

Hello, I recently caught this IP that I think is the Teenage Fairytale Dropouts vandal, similar to what you've encountered before: User:120.17.230.54. I've reverted edits and given warnings, but I'm not quite sure what I'm supposed to do from here, since this is my first time dealing with sockpuppets. Can you please take care of it and let me know what I should do should I encounter this again? Ganbaruby! (talk)

@Ganbaruby: Yeah, that's our buddy TFD all right. Just revert and report to WP:AIV. TFD doesn't post to talk pages and to my knowledge has never used an edit summary, engaged in conversation, or responded in any way to warnings, so don't bother with those. Just report them once you're sure it's them and let the admins do the rest, then wait for them to get a new IP address to continue the eternal game of Whac-A-Mole. Thanks for the assistance, and let me know if you have other questions. Take care. --Finngall talk 15:19, 31 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Help with logo of Alliance Francaise Washington DC[edit]

Dear Finngall,

I need help with the changes made to the Alliance Francaise Washington DC page. I attempted to change the logo because the current one on the Wikipedia website is out of date. This was subsequently removed... Could you please let me know how I can change the logo?

Best.

@Yes You Can Consulting: Short answer: Don't. Longer answer: It's quite obvious that your mission here is not to build the encyclopedia, but to promote your client. Per the Terms of Use which you agreed to upon creating your account, you are prohibited from making paid edits on behalf of a client without declaring your affiliation, and all editors are strongly discouraged from directly editing articles for which a conflict of interest exists whether they are being paid to do so or not. Furthermore, your account name is in violation of the username policy, which prohibits corporate accounts and usernames which imply shared use.
Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not an advertising medium, and regardless of what happens with the YYCC account I strongly encourage you to cease and desist editing here if your only purpose here is for advertising and promotion. --Finngall talk 18:52, 2 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Help me stop vandalism[edit]

Mirzefilankes (talk) 19:40, 5 December 2019 (UTC)Hello Finngall! I don’t know why, but someone in my opinion wants to delete the page (article): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eldaniz_E._Mammadov İ think, it is vandalism. @Mirzefilankes: Bradv opened a discussion on whether the article on Mammadov meets Wikipedia's standards for inclusion, particularly those for whether the subject is sufficiently notable per our definition of the term. This is not vandalism--it is merely part of the ongoing process of building a high-quality encyclopedia. You are welcome to provide your opinions at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Eldaniz E. Mammadov, and I encourage you to improve the references if you can to bolster your case, as I'm inclined to agree that he falls far short of the notability standard at this time. International Law Journals[edit]

Dear Finngall,

The update pertains to a well recognized Austrian journal - it publishes the work of notable academics and practitioners - suggest searching the name of the journal on Google Scholar, or if you have access Westlaw and Lexis.

Unfortunately I don't have time to create a stand alone page for the journal, however it certainly should be on the list.

Yours faithfully AnatomyofText — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anatomyoftext (talkcontribs) 19:27, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@AnatomyofText: Even if the journal does indeed meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines (please see the guidelines on notability in general and some advice on periodicals in particular), the article on it should be written prior to its addition to any lists. Creating an article from scratch is one of the most difficult things to do here--see Help:Your first article. If you decide to take on the task, I suggest creating it as a draft (Draft:The NewJurist International Law Magazine) and submitting it via the Articles for Creation process so that it can be evaluated by experienced editors before it is moved to the main article space.
Note: If you have any connection to this journal, please read this advice regarding conflict of interest.
Let me know if you have further questions, but please do not re-add the link to these lists before the article is created and approved. Thank you. --Finngall talk 19:47, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

International Law Journals[edit]

Hi Fnngall,

I do not understand why you keep on deleting my contribution ? if there is a rule requiring a stand alone article re adding a new source, then please direct me to said rule - in the mean time, this is the second msg that I have sent you pursuant to the dispute resolutions procedure - many thanks.

Yours sincerely Anatomyof Text — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anatomyoftext (talkcontribs) 20:13, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@AnatomyofText: It is not visible in the article proper, but if you go into the editor you will see the comment <!-- Only notable entries (i.e., with an article) should be included --> at the top. While it is not an absolute requirement for entries in list articles in general to have their own articles, it appears to be the longstanding precedent for this one based on its editing history. --Finngall talk 21:24, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
