regarding deletion of article[edit]

my previous article was deleted on the basis of copyright material. But con-taint was taken from an government recognized official website and this is a public profile of Rajiv Saxena (not any copyright con-taint. and some more references from IEEE Research papers are also given. so kindly look into that introduction page of Dr. Saxena — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joshi rohit joshi (talkcontribs) 18:23, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

All we can go on is what the referenced page actually says, and on the page in question, it states quite clearly at the bottom "Copyright @ 2009 juet.ac.in". And even if it were public domain, we generally try to discourage material that is a straight copy and paste from other sites. --Finngall talk 19:26, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Long conversation

Hi Fingall,

I'm really confused by the whole wikipedia process here - that my article is marked for speedy deletion, despite having all the facts on the page backed up by reliable sources and being similar in format and content to numerous other presses. The press is also referenced in numerous articles already on wiki. All these and other points I have made in my three posts disputing the marking for deletion - and to which no one has responded.

I'm not sure why there's no response - whether it's just that people don't have the time (yet do have the time to label me (my talk page) a spammer without giving me any recourse against it - I'm actually surprised the wiki system does that because I'd have thought it might be considered libel ???) or because my reasons are valid and there's no reasonable argument against them so they're just being ignored.

Anyway, I've made some edits but with a complete lack of feedback, it's rather hard to know whether my edits will have made it worse or better - I've removed what other people say about the press, as that's the one thing other similar entries don't seem to have. But in doing so, that removes some of the outside sources.

I'm really at a loss as to why my article is apparently so wrong compared to those for like presses such as Seren, Bloodaxe, Penned in the Margins...

I'm new to the system so maybe I'm misunderstanding how it works. But from my point of the view, with my work being criticised despite being very similar to entries already on wiki, and with no replies being made to my comments in justification of the piece, it does feel rather like there's some kind of preferential system going on here, rather than it being the open source resource I thought it was?

All this said, I appreciate you're not responsible for the whole system, and that it must involve a fair amount of time reading things to comment.

If there really are legitimate concerns on this piece I'd love to know what they are. It's hard to fix something when you don't know what's broken. And clearly from my point of view, my article already seems to fit all the criteria and similar articles on wiki, otherwise I wouldn't have posted it.

Best, Sarah SarahJamesorLeavesley (talk) 10:50, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you--I've been busy with real life things.
I wasn't disputing the notability of the company--I agree that the company meets the standard in that regard. My concern was purely about the promotional tone. After the tag was applied, the article was improved to the point where an admin decided it no longer merited speedy deletion.
Don't be shocked by the lack of response from others--given the millions of other pages, it's hard to stumble upon a random page by chance unless it's linked to a fair number of other pages, and right now the only other link to it in the main article space is at KFS. I encountered your page because one of my activities here is to troll the list of newly-created pages looking for new articles that need to be flagged for the notice of other editors. Some are in need of quick deletion (spam, vandalism, hoaxes, obviously non-notable subjects), while some are acceptable but need to be tagged for further improvement or discussion, or otherwise called to the attention of others. But I'm not an admin--I have no more power or authority here than you do except for whatever reputation I have gained (good or ill) from my track record, and I'm glad that I can rely on others to check my work. (Valfontis, who you've also chatted with, is an admin, but she's also my sister, so we try to avoid too much tag-teaming on the same topics)
While I'm here, I notice that your work has been published by KPS, so I'll also point you to our guidelines on conflict of interest. Short version: It's not that you can't edit articles on topics with which you are closely connected, but you should tread carefully when doing so. But you seem to be doing okay on this point.
Anyway I'll leave the subject alone henceforth, and I hope you'll continue to contribute to other pages here. Thank you for your time and patience. --Finngall talk 20:37, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Finngall,

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, I appreciate it.

Yes, I took the what others have said out because this seemed to be the main bit that was different to like entries, though ironically it was also the biggest section with links/references from sources outside of the press.

Re the conflict of interest, I'd already read something about this - and decided that it wasn't in this case. Although I have one book with that publisher, I am not part of the press's organisational or ownership structure and have no investment in it. In fact, I also have another collection published elsewhere (not a wiki-listed publisher I don't think). Of lesser consideration, the poetry world in the UK is relatively small so anyone having enough knowledge to submit an entry would probably have some kind of indirect link. I'm also registered on here under both my married name and my maiden/pen name - I had no need to include the latter, but I have, because I don't think it's a conflict of interest and I like things up front and out in clear. I guess the only other thing I'd add as a thing of side relevance is that I used to be journalist and, as this is my real name I'm using on here, anything I post reflects directly on me and my personal reputation - so I'm not going to put that in jeopardy by writing something that isn't factual etc.

Anyway, I'm sure I didn't need to say any of that. But just in case there was anything still worrying you or anyone else.

Thank you again for taking the time to reply - I appreciate it's a voluntary thing that sits alongside other demands and commitments.

There are other presses I'm slightly surprised not to see on here, and as that's the area where I have most knowledge/expertise, I may well brave the waters again.

Best,

Greetings,
Accounts are never deleted here. Since you've made no substantial edits, then there is no problem whatsoever with simply not using the Shore Club account name again. If you would like to make edits to the encyclopedia or create articles on topics which do not directly relate to your company or for which you do not otherwise have a conflict of interest, then you are always welcome to create a new account with a name that clearly represents you alone and not a company or group. I hope you will consider doing so. Thanks, and have a good day. --Finngall talk 17:03, 19 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Be-diversity[edit]

Hi --Finngall talk ABOUT Be-diversity The neologism is in process of entering in common use. In fact it is attributable to a distinguished University, attributable to an influential event, attributable to a renown person, and spread out to the public. It has been coined in influential Goldsmiths University of London. It is attributable to a renown event that is the international Goldsmiths symposium “Critical ways of seeing”. It is attributable to a person that is eminent like Stefano Cagol (for example, BBC, The New York Times, Rai, Huffington Post, among others, spoke about his project on climate change for Maldives Pavilion at 55 Venice Biennale). The process of entering in common use already started: in fact – as Dan Savage did with his famous neologism “santorum” – there is a process of open call reflection spread out from the web and from University. This open call started before the symposium. --Leila Mai (talk) 01:25, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

speedy deletion of article Mazoni[edit]

Hi Fingall, i see your tag of speedy deletion on the article i am creating, but i want to tell you that i have just started writing the article 15 minutes ago and have not completed it yet and i am working on it right now, as i am a new user i am going slow, so that i dont make any mistake or go beyond wikipedia policy, hopes this clarifies the misunderstanding. • Hi Finngall, i saw you removed the tag on the article, i want to tell you that i have taken utmost care not to make any mistakes in the article but i am new around here therefore, I want you to please review the article and see if there are any mistakes in the article or any other issue that needs to be taken care of, please provide your guidance and insight on the article. Salemandar (talk) 20:58, 8 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've added the {{refimprove}} tag to the article--what I see there looks good, but most of what's there is sourced from Mazoni's own web sites. A properly-written article should be drawing most of its material from sources that are independent of the subject, and if those can't be found, then the company likely isn't notable enough to merit an article here. I know you've put a lot of effort into this--keep up the good work. --Finngall talk 23:20, 11 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Finngall, yeah i worked on it really hard and learned a lot on editing and other stuff on wikipedia, in the process of doing so and other users were also very cooperative and helping like you, i like it here. Yes other users also pointed out the same thing that you are telling about notability, so i left a message on the article talk page, for other editors to also provide contribution. anyways keep in touch, have a good day. RE: Speedy deletion of VacationsByMarriott[edit]

Hi,

I'd like to discuss why a speedy deletion tag was placed on the Wikipedia page I created titled Vacations By Marriott. The article is both written from a neutral point of view and includes verifiable references. This is the first article I've written on behalf of my client, Vacations by Marriott, so I am not sure what it is that I have done incorrectly. Thank you for the opportunity to fix it!

Lindseyjsd14 (talk) 20:24, 12 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article reads to me like a blatant advertisement. If a reviewing admin disagrees, they can decline to delete it--I'm not perfect, but I've been around long enough to have a feel for what's generally acceptable. Remember, this is an encyclopedia, not a free web host or advertising medium.
On that note, as an encyclopedia, all articles herein should get their source data via verifiable references to reliable sources that are independent of the subject. The sole reference you have provided is from Marriott itself. Spamminess aside, there's no evidence here that VBM is notable enough to merit its own article independently of Marriott International (where VBM is not even mentioned) and is therefore eligible for deletion on that basis as well.
Finally, since you mention that VBM is your "client", please read Wikipedia's guidelines on conflict of interest in addition to the other links to policies and procedures that I've included above. Thank you for your time. --Finngall talk 20:47, 12 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. It appears that the article has in fact been deleted as spam. This does not preclude your trying again, but I'll reiterate that you should thouroughly read Wikipedia's policies and guidelines before making the attempt. --Finngall talk 20:50, 12 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

deletion[edit]

i need help the article i am writing is not personal yet you flagged it for speedy deletion. It is irrelevant whether the claim of notability within the article is not sufficient for the notability guidelines. If the claim is credible, the A7 tag can not be applied. RamandeepTiwana (talk) 14:59, 19 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'll have to echo the opinion expressed by MelanieN over at Peridon's talk page-- you simply have not yet demonstrated that this event has received sufficient coverage from major media sources to meet Wikipedia's notability standards for events. Canada's Largest Ribfest has been covered in the Toronto Star. The Best In The West event has been the subject of articles in a couple of the largest papers in the western US. You've got the Oakville Beaver and not much else. The references for the other two listed Ribfests aren't quite as solid as the first two, but I'd wager that if someone were to nominate them for deletion that the consensus would be to keep them.
There's nothing wrong with keeping the draft in your userspace for now. If the Oakville event grows to the point where it garners wider coverage, then you can add to it accordingly. If you believe the event has then met the notability standard, I would recommend submitting it for approval via the Articles for Creation process to get a second opinion rather than posting it to main article space directly.
Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks, and have a good day. --Finngall talk 18:01, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

De-prod of Tim Chow[edit]

While I have taken the article to afd as suggested, the de-PROD was not necessary. For future reference, articles which have been proposed for deletion as unsourced BLP's may still be PROD'ed regularly. WP:PROD specifically says: This does not affect the regular prod process, which may still be used on BLPs, including BLPs from which the sticky prod has been legitimately removed. That being said, discussing the matter can't hurt. Cheers. Sir Sputnik (talk) 19:39, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Talk to me about the deletion of Rhythmlink Internationl's page. What in particular caused the deletion of the page? That page was vanilla as possible and only stated the important facts. Rhythmlink is at the forefront of its market and creating new ways to record or elicit neurophysiologic biopotentials. I tried not to promote the company, but only to provide the most important products and news; and to back them up with sources, patents and trademarks. Rhythmlink deserves to have a page so lets work together in finding a way to help us both.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rhythm1140 (talkcontribs) 12:13, 1 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article read like an advertisement to me, and to the admin who actually did the deletion. You have already been advised about conflict of interest and maintaining a neutral point of view, and I don't think I can offer better advice than FreeRangeFrog did in advising you create a draft and work through the Articles for Creation process, where experienced editors can offer suggestions and work with you before the article gets posted to main article space again.
And in my opinion, no company "deserves" to have an article, and the question of whether an article on a company (or any subject) should or should not exist should never be couched in those terms. Either the independent WP:REF:references exist for the company, or they don't, no matter how big the company is, and no amount of PR-speak can change that. Wikipedia's notability guidelines for companies represent the community's consensus on where to draw the line. Wikipedia is a collaborative process--please accept the advice that has been given and which will be given if you attempt to create the article again. Have a good day. --Finngall talk 14:44, 1 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

From a Tejano point of view (a Tejano is a person from Texas who happens to be of Spanish, usually Mexican American decent), Oscar Martinez is an important figure and he most certainly deserves his place in this forum. His contributions to the genre are plentiful and anyone who knows anything at all about this music would most certainly know Oscar. Nomination of Disc Hoops for deletion[edit]

Hi Fingall! I have some questions concerning the Disc Hoops article. You listed the lack of notability as a reason for deletion. How notable should something be to be included in Wikipedia? Also, I am related to the inventor of the game. I included my last name in my username to make this evident (I wanted to be challenged if the article appeared too flattering). Are there any changes to the article that I could make that would make it less biased? Jonathankstorey (talk) 05:11, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please read Wikipedia's general notability guidelines. Regardless of whether or not the article maintains a neutral point of view, the general consensus is that any subject should be sourced from verifiable references from multiple reliable sources and if those sources can't be found, then the subject doesn't merit inclusion in a general-purpose encyclopedia. --Finngall talk 05:38, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Meta Index Image[edit]

I see you have tagged my article for Meta Index Image for deletion, I strongly disagree with this. I do understand your point that we are trying to raise crowd funding but we are no way trying to do that through wikipedia. We have create this new metadata technology, we have had a lot of people say that they have looked for a definition of what is a meta index image and the best place to supply that type of information in todays world is wikipedia. Can you please let us know what we can do to make it acceptable. We did not even want to put the links to external sites but when we submitted the article it made us put reference URL's we are not trying to get people to our crowd funding we simply want a definition of the word and credit to our developer we created it, we would be willing to take out all links and even company name.

This is very important to us can you please let us know what we should change to keep it from getting deleted.

thank you, Ryan

Meta Index Image[edit]

thank you for your quick response, but we are again not trying to advertise anything, I have just updated the article and taken out any reference to our company, and I removed the reference articles which I did not want put in there in the beginning.

Our goal is very simple which is to explain what a Meta Index Image, and that is exactly what your service is designed for, so I do not see how this would not meet your requirements I have extensively read the documentation that was provided at the top of our page where it said we where being deleted, I can not see how now it being just a simple definition of what a meta index image and who created it would be any issue.

Please let me know what else we can change, I have to admit this is very important to me I have spent years developing this technology I am not really worried about the crowd funding or even advertising the companies that are starting to use it, I would just like to explain what this new type of metadata is, and if possible give credit for being the one who created it.

I appreciate any help you can give me.

Thank you, Ryan

@Tryantindustries: Leaving all talk of advertising and promotion aside, the need for proper references and evidence of notability (and concerns about conflict of interest) remain valid. Why did you say the Seven Factor page should be deleted?? did you not see the post showing it meets the standards for notability? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:304:10F8:7FD9:D69A:20FF:FE61:9DF5 (talk) 20:55, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

speedy deletion[edit]

Why are you nominating my page for deletion? its on TWO OTHER WIKIPEDIAS. So its notable enough. I now don't like you very much.--Old Time Music Fan (talk) 01:04, 28 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Old Time Music Fan: Different wikis has different standards, and en.wikipedia has a stricter standard than a lot of them. I don't know what standards the other Wikipedias use, but the article here has zero references and there's not even a suggestion that this organization meets this Wikipedia's standards for notability. If you can improve it, great, but as it stands the article has no basis whatsoever for being kept. --Finngall talk 01:11, 28 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Johncongo rapper.[edit]

I have removed the {{prod}} tag from Johncongo_(rapper), which you proposed for deletion. I'm leaving this message here to notify you about it. If you still think the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to the article. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks! Latertinsna 13:40, 28 August 2014 (UTC) hope no problem with this? I know you are not the one whom nominated it for deletion.. I just want it to be discussed in another place but not above the article — Preceding unsigned comment added by Latertinsna (talkcontribs)
