Computer Programming Article, Demographics Section[edit]

It looks like you are responsible for the sourceless "global" statistics at the bottom of Computer Programming. I commented on the talk page. Even if you have sources, i think the language is hopelessly equivocal. Thanks. Moe Aboulkheir 12:27, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstar[edit]

Hi Deryck,

Thanks for the barnstar - I really appreciate it. I only noticed it per chance when I noticed that the page was a bit smaller! I've reincluded the other one (for comic effect, I found it funny anyway) and they can both sit on my user page with pride now! :-) Thanks again! Thanks for accepting my barnstar. Deryck C. 16:11, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit to my userpage[edit]

Ah yes, I have had that missing barnstar ever since my beggining day at wikipedia. I suppose there's no reason for it to remain, seeing as I've been recongnized and awarded barnstars for my work. Thank you for tiny edit and clearing that up. Nice to meat you too, but may I inquire how you came across my userpage..? I don't recall coming across you before or editting the same articles with you. -ZeroTalk 14:58, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I came directly from the missing barnstar. Deryck C. 16:10, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Project[edit]

Hi, my name is Federico (alias Pain) and I am creating a section for nominating th best user page, I was wondering if you were interested in joining the project.

The project has just started, and we need help to spread the word and ameliorate it.

Barnstar[edit]

Oh, wow! That's a surprise, but a really pleasant one. Thank you for the barnstar—I was really happy when you gave it to me :). Nice to see someone seeing that I'm at least doing something for Wikipedia and improving it. —Mirlen 04:11, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

HK Coliseum: Not stadium?[edit]

Can you tell me, please, by what criteria did you classify the Hong Kong Coliseum as not a stadium? Deryck C. 09:13, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

STL predecessor[edit]

Predecessor of STL was not a C++ structure but a library in Ada programming language, using generics and providing mre-less the same functionality as current STL. And STL consists from more than just containers - the main feature is separation of algorithms from containers and their mutual orthogonality. Pavel Vozenilek 22:11, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Deryck C. 08:57, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

bugs[edit]

FYI: stdlib.h is not library, it is header. It is mere one small part of Standard C library.

In C the NULL is typically defined as

#define NULL (void*)0

to allow typesafe assignement. It is C++ that requires 0 without type speciafication. Pavel Vozenilek 22:24, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

swab doesn't swap just two bytes but any number of bytes as asked.

Please be more precise in word and definitions you use. TIA Pavel Vozenilek 22:24, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

All users are encounaged to display the {{BestUserPage}} banner on their User Page.

All members all encouraged to display the {{BUP}} banner in their User Page, and also notify that the project has started.

We will refer to the votes for this first session as "March 2006" in the archive.

Hello[edit]

(also on user talk: Wingchi) Hello, this is Deryck, a current member of LSCCT. I've been seeing that your biography article, Poon Wing-chi, had long been left empty as a redlink. I wonder if you could do the community a favour by writing the article about yourself? Deryck C. 09:47, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message, and Congratulations to LSC Computer Team. Well, wiki is not for describing people like us, so even if my article is created, I would be surprised if it is not being deleted by others immediately. As a brother in Christ, let me exhort you not to focus too much on such worldly achievements, because none of them are significant before God, and none of them could have been achieved without God. Best wishes to your HKCEE next year, and may God bless you in your walk with Him. --Wingchi 23:04, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Pictures of Lam Tin & other HK places[edit]

(also on user talk: instantnood) I've recently took some pictures of Lam Tin MTR, including the plaque, and put it onto the article as you requested some months ago. In addition, I've also took some other pictures of scenes in Hong Kong. Deryck C. 09:14, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

*Thanks so much. But I can't find them even after searching (pretty rough tho).. mind telling where they are? :-D — Instantnood 17:36, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your archival on WP:BAP[edit]

Hi, the archival has been in order and much needed - however, I'm not sure as to why you moved the DYK discussion to archive with the edit summary "abandoned." It is very much active, with the last edit taking place some 25 days back. It is held-up due to non-availabilty of an artist and should pick pace in another ten days or so. Please reinstate that section. Please reply on my talkpage, if you need to. TIA, --Gurubrahma 17:11, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reinstated. However, IMHO 25 speechless days is more than enough to determine a proposal abandoned. Deryck C. 17:28, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

range block[edit]

small text: also on user talk: Curps The 203.xxx.xxx.xxx IP range is NOT open proxy range. It's believed to be a range of open proxy only because it is a shared IP range by the users of ISP Hong Kong Broadband, which has many vandalist customers. You act marking it as an "open proxy range" and blocking all the IPs "indefinite" created drastic result to me: although I'm not a vandalist (see special:contributions/Deryck Chan), I'm being forced to use an open proxy in editing wikipedia because my own IP address is blocked unreasonably with a diligent editor possessing more than 3000 edits being regarded as a vandalist, which creates more problems (as I'm now using an open proxy). Another admin, namely FireFox, had tried to put a "hard unblock" on my username, but that didn't work. I just want to know if any of you admins could do anything with me, the poor non-admin which is being blocked because permanently because his IP is being shared by vandalists within the same ISP.

From the angry and furious moderator of WP:HKCOTW, WP:SCOTW and WP:BAP Deryck C. 13:31, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NB: Please tell Mushroom, Improv and Sasquatch, who are also responsible for the IP rangeblock, when you come up with a solution, or want someone to discuss with. FYR, my email address is deryckchan [at] gmail.com. Deryck C. 13:34, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I replied on my talk page. See also the discussion User talk:Rayleung2709#helpme, it would really be helpful to followup with your ISP. In any case, I believe the range block is cleared already. -- Curps 20:55, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

See User talk:Rayleung2709#helpme for some discussion about this. The vandal had a particularly strong connection with the 203.186.238.128/25 IP range: either the vandal is one of their clients, or they haven't secured their IP addresses properly against outside abuse. So it would be really helpful if one of their clients could discuss with this ISP, to help prevent any future massive vandalism episodes like the one we faced a few days ago. Anyways, I'm pretty sure the block is cleared already. -- Curps 20:53, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As a user of the broadband company, I'd like to supply you with a bit of information.

First, the 203.xxx.xxx.xxx is a shared DHCP range with IP address randomly distributed on every re-connection. Therefore, if one client keeps on disconnecting and reconnecting (which takes at most 10 seconds), making one edit between each reconnection and disconnection, he would have be vandalizing with ALL THE ADDRESSES IN THE IP RANGE.

Second, the ISP would not be helpful in identifying the real vandal - Hong Kong is free speech, and have you seen an ISP saying that "we will be reponsible for what our clients do online"? Of course not.

Third, I strongly suggest that there are more than one vandalists. I don't have a real evidence for this, but the edits are so massive that one single person cannot do them.

Fourth, as a follow-up to the fact that the number of vandalists may be large, I think you people as admins should do something with the registered users, not the vandalists. As the vandalizing wave come approximately weekly (every week I find that I'm blocked), and the blockage lasts for a few days, it's simply unreasonable to disallow me to edit for half of the time.

Fifth, you said the blockage should be cleared, but, sorry, no. The blockage on the address, as I can see from the IP address user talk page and the list of blocked IPs, the block on the several IPs that I'm frequenting are said to be indefinite. It'll never lift unless you do something about it.

Therefore, I'm still using a proxy (the one at my school, half-open) to edit Wikipedia, and I certainly hope that the administrators can do something, such as making registered users in this IP range exempt from blockage, or make a list of hard-unblocks for users of this IP range (making those users totally immune to IP specific blocks, which I think can solve most problems).

The still frustrated, angry, furious and proxy-using moderator of four projects, Deryck C. 01:35, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it's widely known that AOL does this weird IP address hopping, but I think very few people knew that this Hong Kong ISP does it too. You should probably get in touch with the developers (User:Tim Starling or User:Brion VIBBER) and ask them if there's some solution. Personally, I think established users should never be affected by IP blocks or IP autoblocks, but that would require a software change, and only the developers can do that. -- Curps 02:09, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's better for you to tell the developers these problems, because I don't know about things in AOL. You'll be a better person in addressing the similarity between AOL and HKBN. You may include the comments I left here as a reference. For the time being, I'll keep using this non-public proxy. Deryck C. 07:52, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Are you sure you're still blocked when you try to use your regular ISP's IP addresses? A couple of other users were also affected, but as far as I can see they're now editing. The block should have expired quite some time ago... unless this is somehow a different ISP and a different block from the one I though you were referring to. -- Curps 08:17, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not blocked for the moment. However, as the problem comes so oftenly, I suggest that you refer this to the developers before the next vandalism wave rocks the wiki. Deryck C. 08:21, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unfair admins[edit]

How does one use non-public proxy and what does it mean? How does one use open proxy and what does it mean? How does it work? Where is Hong Kong Broadband?

I sent you an email, so if you prefer, you can reply in private.

Mind Benders[edit]

Flcelloguy told me to ask you if you would be interested in the administration of WP:MIND with me. Well, here I am! Fetofs Hello! 23:12, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I'm interested. Deryck C. 07:23, 21 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok... I'll give you some background info:

Flcelloguy asked the contestants to create fictional articles on subpages of the Mind Benders page. This went smoothly, and now we have seven articles created. That is not the problem.
The problem is that, then, he asked the contestants to make questions based on the article. Most gave up and, of that 7, we only have 2 that have done it.

So I guess we must think of ways to:

  1. Reencourage people to start writing the questions. (I've already tried giving suggestions, but I still think that might be a good idea)
  2. If possible, bring more people to try to answer the questions, even people that haven't written any article. Fetofs Hello! 11:44, 21 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I meant that all contestants had to create at least 10 questions based on their articles on a subpage of the subpage, for example Wikipedia:Mind Benders/2/Questions. Fetofs Hello! 12:15, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Userboxen[edit]

Hi, to answer your questions, it is a result, largely, of Jimbo stating there to be a problem, noting that eventually that userboxen will all go, and the addition of a clause, directly by Jimbo, to the speedy deletion criterion for templates. There have been discussions relating to this -- browse higher up on my talk page for further discussion on it. As for why some userboxes survived, there have been a number of editors who have started to apply the criterion, but because there is no comprehensive list of userboxen, coverage has been incomplete. I deleted a lot of userboxes of a particular type, but may have missed some. Someone else will eventually get around to zapping the rest, I am sure. I would advice you to focus on the encyclopedic content -- Wikipedia is not meant to be a place for self-expression -- we're here to build an encyclopedia. --Improv 14:58, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Article on Leakage[edit]

You said:

Deryck Chan m (added back the chemistry section - i have no idea why did you removed it.)

Before I edited it, the article read:

  1. In normal usage, leakage is the diffusion of energy or matter out of a container.
  2. In chemistry, leakage refers to the loss of chemicals, usually undesirable.

I removed these two entries and replaced them by:

In everyday usage, leakage is the escape of liquid or powder from an imperfectly sealed container.

I deleted chemistry because it seemed to be covered by the everyday usage amd didn't need a separate entry. Sorry if you find my action inappropriate.

That's an explanation of why I did what I did. If you consider that a separate entry is needed for chemistry, it's fine by me.

Best wishes Pol098 02:03, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I'm sorry that I added back the redundant introductory sentence on chemistry. My final decision is, combine everyday usage and chemistry into one single sentence in the introduction, and keep the chemistry section. Feel free editing! Deryck C. 02:27, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pinyin[edit]

Thank you. But that should be Putonghua, not Mandarin. --Deryck C. 14:48, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well that's very true. But Mandarin may mean either 北方话 or 普通话. :-) — Instantnood 18:42, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
According to the HKCEE Putonghua syllabus, Mandarin means Taiwan Guoyu. --Deryck C. 07:12, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Am interested to have a look at the syllabus. :-P (is it online?) But anyways, Mandarin is the name popularly used in English until Putonghua was introduced, but still Mandarin is more common than Putonghua. Besides Mandarin, the ROC government also calls it Kuo-yü. — Instantnood 19:39, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose the syllabus is written in Chinese, and I suppose it's addressing the differences between 北京話, 國語 and 普通話. Am I right? Yes there's some rather remarkable differences between the three, and even between the latter two. But that's not related to the differences (if there's any) between what the terms Putonghua and Mandarin, as used in English, are referring to. — Instantnood 10:24, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe I took a bad assumption that all direct-transliterations took the meaning of what they originally meant in Chinese. --Deryck C. 15:34, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'd say Putonghua = 普通話, but Mandarin may not be exactly meaning 普通話 or 國語.. since it can mean 北方話, 國語 or 普通話. — Instantnood 17:15, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Esperanza![edit]

Welcome, Deryck Chan/Archive 6, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of KnowledgeOfSelf, JoanneB, FireFox and Titoxd. The next set of elections will be in April, and I would be glad to see you vote, or even consider running for a position.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Celestianpower by email or talk page or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

You might want to make room for another userbox. Good luck!

Barnstar, OTR & PUA Review[edit]

FYI. You may want to look and comment here: Wikipedia:Barnstar and award proposals/Proposed Changes. For your reference, the guidelines are referenced here: Barnstar Proposal Guidelines. Thanks -- evrik 18:39, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

IMO your proposed reforms are not legitimate. See discussions there. --Deryck C. 15:39, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Such harsh language. evrik

Sorry if you think I'm too straight-faced (as described by Tony Sidaway). --Deryck C. 16:55, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

About the Bauhinia Bowl problem: LSC had won Bauhinia Bown only 21 times, and 2006 championship is undecided up till the time being. Saying that LSC had won Bauhinia Bown 24 times and that she has already won the 2006 championship is strict vandalism. Next time when you see this just revert without hesitation with an "RVV" summary. --Deryck C. 06:12, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm confused. The article above lists La Salle College as winning the Boys School award 24 times. I counted; it's definitely listed 24 times, not 21. So why is this incorrect—this appears to be a matter of fact, rather than opinion. (I'm happy to accept that this year's award is yet to be decided). Where is the error? Sliggy 16:59, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to put this on the article's talk page, so that the editor who believes L.S.C. has won the trophy 25 times will be able to see & contribute if he/she wishes. Probably better to discuss it there. Sliggy 19:52, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reply: See what you've reverted TO, instead of from, and you'll understand. Somebody, probably a skillful vandalist, added a few years to the trophy list. --Deryck C. 04:23, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #1[edit]

Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience:
"No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Note from the editor
Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!
  1. Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before.
  2. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log.
  3. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time.
  4. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified.
  5. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community.
  6. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially.
  7. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on.
  8. The Advisory Council is not going to be proposed to be expanded by the Advisory Council themselves, if others want to propose it, they will listen.
Signed...

Re:1500[edit]

Yes, I know. But I am first going to nominate myself when I have fewer edits and know what other wikipedians think of me. It will be easier to correct my mistakes when I have less edits--Exir KamalabadiJoin Esperanza! 08:20, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tagging images[edit]

Please do not tag images as "released into public domain by the copyright holder" unless you personally took the image, previously owned it, or was told by whoever took or owned the image that it was hereby released into the public domain. I find it odd that you would be having communications with User:Tempuser007, an unresponsive chronic copyright violator whose account seems to have been created solely for uploading unsourced images, or that you have personally taken and uploaded images watermarked with "Gakei.com" or that are of a ridiculously low resolution that even a cheap digital camera would not produce.

I think the Hong Kong article could do without these images. It is already too saturated as is. I purposely targeted only the poorer, non-essential images uploaded by User:Tempuser007, but all of them will eventually have to go. You live in Hong Kong - try taking some replacements when you get a chance? --Jiang 13:15, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you've found a watermark in the image, then please help me untag and remove it. However, I find the low-resolution picture interesting. That photo is possibly taken from a built-in camera of a mobile phone, which means:
  1. The image can't be a copyvio
  2. It reflects Hong Kong people's habit in taking pictures with a camera.

I'd suggest the low-resolution image be kept and the obvious copyvio be removed.

BTW I've contributed a lot of photos (~30) to Wikipedia already. See Lam Tin and you'll see some of them. Last but not least, after the Hong Kong Time discussion and this one, I'd like to remind you that please try to listen to a Hongkonger's advice and viewpoints before you try to hold a debate concerning things about Hong Kong. Good luck. --Deryck C. 13:54, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Add some more: I thought you've mistaken my meaning of retagging the image. I'm not tempuser007. I changed tag only because I assumed his / her good faith and believed that the image is really a PD one. It's just improperly tagged. --Deryck C. 15:37, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tempuser007 has also uploaded a number of photos that are too large to be cell phone photos, and the variation in sizes and lack of metadata suggests that these photos were taken by different cameras, and resized and uploaded to the internet where the metadata became lost. The evidence is against suggesting that Tempuser007 took all these photos him/herself, because we don't see identifying metadata showing use of a single set of cameras, like how all the photos you have taken are with a Panasonic DMC-FX5. Even if Tempuser007 did take all these photos, we cannot assume PD without any indication from Tempuser007, but rather GFDL (Template:GFDL-presumed) if it is strikingly obvious the uploader took the photo (the most common case is if the uploader says so without tagging the image or the photo is very personal in nature).--Jiang 21:55, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've put a {{GFDL-presumed}} onto the cell phone image, as the nosource template suggests. After taking a deep look into what you've lately written onto my talk page, your argument tells me that you didn't take a deep look into the images. It is because I actually take pictures from two different cameras instead of one, as in your claim. See Image:Lam Tin MTR Entrance.jpg this one for a counter-example.
More importantly, cell-phone photos tend not to have metadata (or EXIF) due to their small filesize. Moreover, what do you think if the picture is taken from a, say, film camera or instant-picture, and scanned into the computer? There would be absolutely no relevant EXIF. Therefore, I must argue that EXIF or metadata are not feasible ways for identifying picture-related copyvio. --Deryck C. 15:14, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We cannot be even sure that the image was taken with a cell phone. GFDL-presumed is not designed or currently being used for guessing the origin of images. It has to be obvious Tempuser007 took the photo, which is for from the case when looking at his contributions. If you still disagree, I will take this to PUI.--Jiang 18:04, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If tempuser007 wants to violate copyright, he wouldn't have chosen such a private-styled image. He would've downloaded an image of the airport from the net. If you still think that we must delete this image, then go for an PUI arbitration. There is no direct evidence showing this image is a copyvio. The only possible "evidence" is that the uploader, tempuser007, has an unclean record. --Deryck C. 04:39, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Cantonese Wikipedia[edit]

No, I seldom speak Cantonese anymore other than to my family members. It isn't until I came to Cantonese Wiki that I realise I don't know a lot of the spoken characters. :-( — Kimchi.sg | Talk 13:13, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Please consider archiving your talk page. — Kimchi.sg | Talk 13:17, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed from your userpage that you contribute from both Linux and Windows. How do you input Cantonese in both of them? Also, in your opinion, which OS is more "Cantonese-friendly"? I have Simplified Chinese edition of Windows XP and (current OS) Gentoo Linux. Your answer might convince me to switch OS'es. ;-) — Kimchi.sg | Talk 13:51, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

By "HKSCS-enriched," do you mean installing the software from this website? :-) — Kimchi.sg | Talk 15:36, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2[edit]

The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
  1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
  2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
  3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.

The barnstar you gave[edit]

Hey, thanks for the barnstar, I don't know if I deserve it, but... You forgot to fill in the the template with a signed message explaining what the barnstar is for, so it just says {{{1}}} inside it. –Tifego(t) 13:35, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done. --Deryck C. 14:53, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, again, thanks. –Tifego(t) 00:44, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Missing barnstar[edit]

How bad would it be to have a no barnstar zone and a missing barnstar on the same page? Would this violate its purpose? --SPUI (T - C - RFC) 15:46, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]
