SimEvents Article[edit]

Hi Deb, I would like to work with you on improving this article. I have updated the article with some changes. Please review the updated version. Out of curiosity, could you please tell me what specific parts of the article seem like an advertisement?

International Records Trust Article[edit]

Hi, I created the article mentioned above last week, but I see that you deleted it for "G12: Unambiguous copyright infringement". Would you object to me re-creating the article but re-writing it to avoid the elements you considered to be infringing upon copyright? --Srip (talk) 17:56, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deb, this page has been online for quite some time and has never once been tagged as potential advertising. It is properly sourced. I even have had conversations with other "official" Wikipedia editors about the non-free use of the logo. —Preceding unsigned comment added by GrantGannon (talkcontribs) 21:24, 19 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deb, thank you for the feedback. I will gladly make those changes you pointed out and give the copy another look. As far as conflict of interest. I felt using my real name was the best way to approach any conflict. I am an employee and I fought to be the person responsible for creating a wikipedia entry for the company. I did this to ensure that it wasn't done incorrectly. Had you seen the copy before I got my hands on it, you would understand. It was nothing BUT marketing. Hopefully you can see my reasons for this and help me craft the entry to make sure it meet's Wikipedia standards. GrantGannon (talk) 16:22, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Deb, exactly which is why I wanted to be the one to do it so it would be done right. I'll give the entry a comprehensive review in the next few days and check back in with you. Thanks! --GrantGannon (talk) 22:41, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bredin Prat[edit]

Deb, I'm surprised you deleted Bredin Prat without allowing for a period of notice and comment. I think the article was neutral and did not go beyond promotion of other law firms on wikipedia. Please familiarize yourself with articles on other law firms (and you will notice that the Bredin Prat article was standard) before deleting content. If you had clicked on the biographies of the founding partners and navigated to their wiki pages, the notoriety of the firm itself would have been obvious. --Mediterraneo (talk) 08:44, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is in reference to your Advert tag on the above page, which was begun by a user now going by the monicker of kendwallace. This user has been starting or adding to many different pages concerning planned mullti-use developments in several parts of the U.S. for the past several months now. Check his log at Special:Contributions/Kendwallace. His or her edits are almost always incoherent and are based, for the most part on the Web sites of the developers. If you will check the history of Centennial, California, you will see how many times I have reverted his material on that page and how many times he or she has put it back with no explanation. I frankly do not know what to do with Mr. or Ms. kendwallace. As for Tejon Mountain Village (which is in the immediate area where I live), I am developing my own article on that subject, which I will work on in [User:GeorgeLouis/Sandbox] and then use it as a substitute for Tejon Mountain Village when the new version is ready. I have a dozen articles from the Bakersfield Californian which I will use as my source, as well as any good material from the Tejon Ranch site. I invite you to keep an eye on this article if you are interested in following up. Sincerely, GeorgeLouis (talk) 21:52, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The revised Tejon Mountain Village is now completed and put on line. I am debating with myself whether to do a similar revision with Centennial, California, but it may have to wait a while. I think I will work on Tejon Ranch first. GeorgeLouis (talk) 06:46, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Deb. I am trying to help Kenny with his editing. He wants to know why you deleted this article. If you don't want to tell him, can you tell me, and I will pass it along? He is 19 years old and is obviously sincere if a bit undeveloped in his usage of English. This is a tough case, but see wp:wikilove. Yours, GeorgeLouis (talk) 00:38, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, this is a tough case. I know exactly the frustration you face with this user, but sometimes we forget that anything we type here can have real-world consequences upon those who read it. Kenny is a 17-year-old boy with obvious dyslexia. He affirms he has a learning disability. One can't exactly treat him like a 35-year-old creep with a slide rule in each pocket. Of course WP is not a social-service agency either. I will keep working with him for a bit longer. Sincerely, your friend, GeorgeLouis (talk) 22:26, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

7th Reign Deletion[edit]

I felt that the reasons you gave for the deletion of my page were inadequate. It apparently failed to meet the criteria to show that the band was 'worthy' of being on wikipedia, and some of this criteria included the amount of information and sources and whether or not the sources were notable. I put a lot of work into this page compiling information from many different sources, some were VERY notable metal music websites. I poured tons of information into the page, and i thought it was clear that they were equally significant (and more significant) than many bands featured on wikipedia. I do not check the page every day, maybe once every couple weeks, or more often if i have just added new information. so i was not even aware that it was subject for deletion, and then next time i looked it was gone, and so were the pages about their albums. One of the reasons that i wasn't aware was that it wasn't even posted on my talk page that it was subject for deletion. I don't know whether that was intentional or not. If you could please tell me what was lacking in the pages and what improvements could have been made, i would like to know. And if possible, could you restore the page and I could make said pages. I did put hours upon hours of work into these articles and i do strongly believe that their deletion was unjustified. So it would be very much appreciated if i could be sent copies of the page so that i may improve them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MistaSeth (talkcontribs) 00:58, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

I created this article about a company which seemed to me to meet at least minimal standards of notability. You speedy deleted it. I wasn't notified of the speedy nomination and haven't a clue why it was deleted. Notability was definitely asserted so at the very least I would have expected a tag to improve the references or something like that, or maybe a prod. andy (talk) 21:42, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In fact, re-reading the definition of A7, this was definitely an inappropriate deletion. "The criterion does not apply to any article that makes any credible claim of significance or importance even if the claim is not supported by a reliable source". There was such a credible claim, supported or not. andy (talk) 21:46, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi. I replied a few days ago. Can you restore the article (prodding it if you see fit)? Thanks. andy (talk) 17:03, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Month articles[edit]

  • I appreciate the suggestions, and my hope on these articles has been to set up a consistent format that anyone can add to or edit. I like your idea (to move births and deaths into the sections on the applicable days), and I think it would be more interesting that way. I ran across one case where one U.S. Secretary of State was born on the exact day that another one passed away, for instance, and then there would be cases where someone's birth coincided with a memorable event, and it would be ironic (such as if an astronaut had been born on July 20, 1969). What do you think would be a good, consistent format for that? My first inclination is to keep it short, with a simple Born: (person's name), (descriptor), (birthplace) or Died: (person's name), (age), (descriptor). If you'd like to experiment with one of the articles (they're in 1900, 1909, 1959, and 1972), please feel free to try different ideas. I'm going to try it out on a page and see what I think. The way these month pages get their start, of course, is I copy a section from the existing article for the year (such as 1972#Births and then edit those down to a shorter form, and then move on to trying to locate events for each day. Anyway, thanks, Deb, for the idea. Mandsford (talk) 13:01, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I tried out your suggestion on January 1959, and I like the way it looks. It actually made a (slight) reduction in the size of the article. It takes awhile, my suggestion after trial-and-error is two open two windows, paste on the "born" and "died" tags on the people's names, and then cut and paste from one window to the other. Mandsford (talk) 13:22, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I'd appreciate any help that you can offer. It took me about 10 minutes to do the changeover (like I say, it's best if you can open the same article on two windows, then add the tags before cutting from one section and pasting on another-- that way, no scrolling up and down). Editing at least one would probably be a help-- needless to say, six articles would take an hour, so there may be more fun ways to spend spare time. Again, thanks for the suggestion. Mandsford (talk) 20:03, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deb- I am new to Wikipedia and this was my first attempt so I am appreciative of your feedback. October 1972[edit]

  • Deb, thanks for getting October 1972 started. I have a lot of fun looking for the event of the day, and almost always it turns out that there are some days where several major happenings occurred at once, while there are others where it's hard to find anything interesting. The way I go is:
  • (1) Looking at newspaper front pages (I subscribe to newspaperarchive.com but I've found that Google news works great if you type in some key words for the year, like "Nixon", and then followup with a paper that has free display. The Spokane Spokesman-Review from Washington State is pretty easy to look at. Newspaper stories are usually the best way to find out the exact day (and sometimes the exact time) that something happened)
  • (2) Google books (limited preview books rather than all books), searching under "on October 1, 1972" or "on 1 October 1972" and clicking on interesting-looking results--- a great way to find something that wasn't news at the time, but very important in history
  • (3) Google-it on webpages-- on those, I type in "on October 1, 1972 -born" and that brings it down to a handful of pages. At first it might say 1,000,000 articles, but then it turns out to be more like 60. Usually, something will come up in those three searches. Sometimes I conclude that something that seemed interesting at first can be replaced by something more significant. If you have any suggestions on how to cast the net further, please let me know. Speedy deletion of "Stephen MacDonald"[edit]

A page you created, Stephen MacDonald, has been tagged for deletion, as it meets one or more of the criteria for speedy deletion; specifically, it is about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how they are important or significant, and thus why they should be included in an encyclopedia. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and the guidelines for biographies in particular.

You are welcome to contribute content which complies with our content policies and any applicable inclusion guidelines. However, please do not simply re-create the page with the same content. You may also wish to read our introduction to editing and guide to writing your first article.

why did you undo my changes?[edit]

I'm curious why you have been undoing my changes. I've been removing linked dates and tagging them with MOS:UNLINKDATES which says among other things "Month-day articles (February 24 and 10 July) should not be linked unless their content is germane and topical to the subject." and "However, the years of birth and death of architect Philip C. Johnson should not be linked, because little, if any, of the contents of 1906 and 2005 are germane to either Johnson or to architecture." I feel like I'm following the MOS by unlinking dates for birth and dates of people. What's up?

overlinking and dates[edit]

Dear Deb, I note that you're adding links to items such as "London" and "Wales", when the guidelines clearly say that major geographical names are not normally linked (is there a special reason you have in these cases?).

I see also that you seem to be on a campaign to re-introduce date-autoformatting, adding links to date fragments. Do you have consensus to do so? The community settled this matter in the other direction many months ago. Tony (talk) 01:16, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Gatecrasher Black[edit]

I see that there was once a page for the Gatecrasher Black album, but it was deleted due to non-notability. I disagree for the following reasons:

1. I see the Gatecrasher albums as important documents of the trance genre. There are innumerable tracks released every year. This anthology highlights some of the best. It helps fans.

2. There's a Gatecrasher article in Wikipedia, so its notability has been granted. If someone wants to learn about Gatecrasher, its releases are pertinent: CDs are a major aspect of Gatecrasher. And a track-listing is vital info about any CD, especially an anthology.

3. Anecdotally, I frequently use Wikipedia to learn about commercial music. I thought this info would be present, and I was planning to fill the gap until I noted the past deletion. I expect others would like to access this info within the Wikipedia context. It *feels* like Wikipedia material to me.

May I create a track-listing for this album?

Siegfried Sassoon[edit]

Hi, can you explain why the Soldier's Declaration in Siegfried Sassoon was "duplicate information" according to your deletion please? I can't see where it is duplicated in the article. Thanks. 15:57, 3 January 2010 (UTC) Jamesinderbyshire (talk) 15:58, 3 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It seems like the effect of your deletion is that there's now no explanation of what the Soldier's Declaration was - you have to go to the wikisource to get it. I think it was sensible to have at least a glimpse of what that very important document was about in the main article, surely? Jamesinderbyshire (talk) 19:51, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It wouldn't be explaining it "twice over" as you put it. It would be explaining it once. Articles in Wikipedia are not just lists of links to sources, they are supposed to explain things as well. Your deletion removed key information from the Sassoon article. Jamesinderbyshire (talk) 22:21, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. You tagged the above article as perhaps not meeting GNG. I feel like an inline citation to a profile in the New York Times should generally be enough to establish notability. Thoughts? — Bdb484 (talk) 23:00, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm wondering whether you feel that the quote from the NYT article provides an acceptable assertion of notability. If so, would you mind removing the notability tag? Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Hello Deb! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 24 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 944 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

2006-07 Victoria Salmon Kings season[edit]

  • Hi is it possible that this page be reinstated. If the the actual written article is copyright that is fine to erase, but the entire page is not acceptable. I worked hard to set up everything including transactions and various boxes that are used in other professional team pages. I will take blame for the copyright, but I don't feel that deleting the entire page is acceptable, since this information will not be available after this season on the internet.

Thanks--Waseemg (talk) 16:00, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Deb. My understanding is that Waseemg just wants the formatting part of the article - tables, templates and so forth - undeleted, and is happy to rewrite the text from scratch. Would you mind if I restored and userfied a version of the article which contains none of the current prose? (Of course if any of the non-prose content is also a copyvio that's another matter, but it doesn't look that way to me.) Cheers, Olaf Davis (talk) 21:21, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deb, you deleted the above redirect. The main article is The Jelly Moustache. I assume you made a mistake. I would be re-creating the redirect in a day. If you might wish me not to create it again/ or to delete it, please leave a note on my talk; I'll db-author it without issues. Not a mistake - I think it's an unlikely redirect, but if you think otherwise, feel free to put it back. Deb (talk) 20:36, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Deb! You deleted the above article, saying it has promotional or advertising content... I'd likely rewrite it to match the conditions, but I can't understand where the promotional content is. The article is about a philosophy on advertising, that is the only thing it links it with ads. Please comment on the matter before deleting, and I'm sure we can make this work. Thanks. 9:56, 26 January 2010 Caterox

deleted redirect[edit]

Hi

I noticed that you deleted a page I thought should not have been there

I moved Legion (1997 film) to Legion (1998 film) and I thought that it would just deleted it - am I correct in thinking that once one moves a page it always leaves a redirect that, in this case, I should have deleted ?

thanks...Chaosdruid (talk) 01:42, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message.

The Oxford Companion To Popular Music by Peter Gammond Oxford University Press 1991 has the following:

Randolph, Elsie [b. London, 9 Dec.1904; d. London, 15 October 1981). British actress, singer and dancer. A child actress at 12, she had played on the London stage by the age of 14. She had minor parts in The Girl for the Boy (1919); The Naughty Princess (1920); My Nieces (1921); and His Girl (1922), A well-remembered singing and dancing partnership with the debonaire Jack Buchanan was perpetuated in Battling Butler (1923); Toni (1924); Boodle (1925); Sunny (1926); That's A Good Girl (1928) in which she sang "The one I'm Looking for" and "Fancy Our Meeting"; Stand Up and Sing (1931); Mr Whittington (1934) - "Oceans of Time"; This'll Make You Whistle (1936: filmed in 1936); and It's Time To dance (1943). She was also in Madame Pompadour (1924); Peggy-Ann (1927); Follow Through (1929) with Leslie Henson; The Co-Optimists (1930); Wonder Bar (1930); and played her first straight role in 1938.

This article overlooks some of her film roles. Elsie had played straight roles in film before 1938.

List of Indian villages[edit]

Hi Deb. I noticed you had proposed for deleting a page I had created, List of Indian villages, which got finally deleted. Just wanted to leave a note (now as I couldn't do that earlier) that I have (or rather, 'had') no issues with the deletion. AfD nomination of Cochicken[edit]

An editor has nominated Cochicken, an article which you have created or worked on, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cochicken and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. -- Brianhe (talk) 16:36, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

José Joaquín Estudillo[edit]

Hi Deb. Thanks for restoring that right away.Emargie (talk) 17:33, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just to clarify, I really meant "thanks for taking the time to fix it right away". I see you making lots very useful edits to lots of pages I watch, so I knew we were in good hands. I have an interest in Mexican California - and the same or very similar names are quite confusing (to me). Regards. Emargie (talk) 18:09, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism?[edit]

Hi. I was checking out Fornängsskolan, and from there came over to your talk page. One of the entires on the top of the talk page look like a personal attack. I don't know how you see it, nor how long you have been here at Wikipedia. You can remove all that gibberish at the very top of the talk page if you so desire. I guess I am just a concerned Wiki-citizen. Steve Quinn (formerly Ti-30X) (talk) 05:46, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
