DYK for Battle of Corycus

On 8 April 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Battle of Corycus, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Romans used grappling hooks during the Battle of Corycus to board Seleucid ships? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Battle of Corycus. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Battle of Corycus), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

75 mm Schneider-Danglis 06/09

Hello. Today I saw that my article "75 mm Schneider-Danglis 06/09" has been deleted due to “copyright infringement” (I had not visited my account for several months). I do understand, and actually very much appreciate, your efforts to protect Wikipedia from improper practices. However, in this case exactly the opposite has happened: the - extremely widespread - practice of COPYING FROM Wikipedia, by even “respectable” media.

Since 1994 I have published a number of books and articles regarding (mainly) Greek industrial history. Some of this material I have also uploaded on Wikipedia. I wrote the particular article, about the Schneider-Danglis mountain gun, sometime in 2006 (I cannot see the archive, maybe you can), and incorporated text in one of my books in 2012, Since then, other contributors have made minor changes and additions, including an image, to the Wikipedia article. It is almost shocking that this work was incorporated through BLATANT COPY-PASTE in the article you mention, published in army.gr ( http://army.gr/sites/default/files/strategic_and_operational_innovations_at_the_hellenic_armed_forces.pdf ) See page 3 of this article, with the Wikipedia links still evident !! One way to prove the copying from Wikipedia (again, maybe you could do it) is to trace WHEN the army.gr article was published.

It is really not so important for me whether the article is restored or not. However, I would kindly ask that, during your efforts to protect Wikipedia, take into account the – very sad – OPPOSITE EFFECT, of blatant copying from Wikipedia.

Kind Regards, Labros S. Skartsis Skartsis (talk) 18:05, 2 May 2023 (UTC)

@Skartsis: I understand and if what you are saying is true this is a travesty and I owe you an apology. I held the Greek military in relatively high regard as far as military history content goes. I will refrain from involving myself in copyright related issues in the future. Have a nice day and thank you for your content creation.--Catlemur (talk) 20:23, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your response. Unfortunately, the culture of "copy-paste" is spreading so fast, we may have to start a campaign to protect Wikipedia! Take care. Skartsis (talk) 05:29, 3 May 2023 (UTC)
This does look like a miscarriage. But don't avoid copyright issues, please keep doing it but also remember this! I do not want only cocksure people to be deleting things. If I had stopped doing something every time I made a mistake (especially an understandable mistake), I would be completely paralyzed by now.
If it is indeed as Skartsis says, we must restore this ASAP. Also, I can hardly believe someone would publish something with the Wikilinks copy-pasted in; simply amazing.  Mr.choppers | ✎  20:03, 4 May 2023 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Original Barnstar, or, Order of the Red Banner of Labour
Late recognition, Comrade, but that's never a problem. Thank you for your amazing creation of 110th Cavalry Division (Soviet Union)!! Feel free to reach out to me or Kges1901 should you wish to discuss Soviet military issues of interest. Warm regards Buckshot06 (talk) 23:06, 5 August 2023 (UTC)
@Buckshot06: Thank you, I appreciate it.--Catlemur (talk) 13:08, 6 August 2023 (UTC)
Do I see you do cavalry things? Hellenic Army Veterinary Service? Buckshot06 (talk) 20:34, 6 August 2023 (UTC)
That's a coincidence. But I am semi-active in the military logistics and medicine task force, so horses, donkeys and what not show up from time to time. As far as Soviet logistics go I wanted to completely rewrite ALSIB, but that is a big project and I am short on free time now.--Catlemur (talk) 14:18, 7 August 2023 (UTC)

Hi -- Nominator of the page here for the Khalji Revolution. You chose to do a GA nomination for this page and said you would begin doing it shortly, has something come up that caused you to be busy? Just inquiring, best wishes, thanks. Noorullah (talk) 06:54, 13 December 2023 (UTC)

Coordinates aren't metric

You can't convert 29° 19′ 0″ S, 27° 36′ 0″ E to 29.190° S, 27.360° E, as you did here in the Battle of Berea article. That put the coordinates into South Africa. Abductive (reasoning) 11:44, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
