I was able to create the calendar. However, just before I started transferring it to here, I found that there already exists code for this here. It turns out that the code

Thank you from Sally - regarding MigreLief Article.

I am soooo grateful you got back to me. I didn't mean to disappear on you. I have a bipolar/schizo. teen and any moment can be an emergency. My laptop must have slammed shut and signed me off. Again I apologize and am glad you hung in their and replied. Also...very excited you feel with the proper reworking...we can get an article posted.

I truly appreciate your assistance. I am learning to navigate Wikipedia for the first time...it is a little complicated. Not sure where to correspond with you...here (how I'll know to get back to your page is a mystery), on live chat, or my mail. Hopefully I won't lose touch with you. Thanks again. No problem, Sally. Rewriting the article will take some time, as I said, and my time is kind of limited, but if you can be patient with me, I will get to rewriting it and see if we can make a decent article out of it. :) I believe I have your email from our chat on IRC, although it is usually better to communicate on Wikipedia via talk pages, as you have done here. It increases transparency by letting others see what is going on. I will keep you updated as I make progress. Avicennasis tb? @ 16:09, 3 Tamuz 5770 / 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Hello from RoboRay

Dear Avicennasis, I added several links to the Sonja de Lennart page, may I remove your orphan tag? thank you so much! RoboRay(RoboRay (talk) 13:42, 15 June 2010 (UTC)). P.S. I'm glad to read that you are also a Reform Jew!(RoboRay (talk) 14:40, 15 June 2010 (UTC))

Shalom! :) And yes, the tag can now be removed - I've already taken it off. In general, an article is considered an orphan when fewer than 3 other articles link to it. If we check what links to Sonja de Lennart from articlespace, we see it now has 3 links pointing to it, so it would no longer be an orphan. For future reference, as long as you are following guidelines, you don't really need to ask permission to remove tags if you have solved the issue in the tag. But I appreciate you coming and asking me. If you have any other questions or anything, let me know. Avicennasis tb? @ 16:09, 3 Tamuz 5770 / 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Help

On the ocean discussion page you answered my user edit saying try to find a licence. I made the image myself and got a reply pointing me in direction to upload the file to wiki. Well I did that now and this is the link to the photo and the licensing info. This is some photos for a reference to check that my zones check with the ones in the text-book.

Can you post my image on the zones and depths section in the ocean page? Thanks!

Nathaniel Albrecht (photoguy2801)--Photoguy2801 (talk) 16:04, 15 June 2010 (UTC)6/15/2010

Per the opinion of a couple different editors, the balance seems to be in favor of the image in the article, as shown here. Your image does seem a little active and less boring, but doesn't convey all the same information. You are free to ask for comments on the talk page to get feedback, but as is I think your image will have to be changed at least a little for it to be considered. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to let me know. :) Avicennasis tb? @ 16:15, 3 Tamuz 5770 / 15 June 2010 (UTC)
Why I wanted to post it was our school (and probably a lot of others) had to do a biomes book. For the biomes book we had to include an image that had those zones. Everybody found it a problem when hitting this part, there is no image on the web like this (with all these zones)(or they have WAY too much information). I got so fed up with trying to find an image I sat down and played for hours in Photoshop trying to make this. I wanted to help the future students by posting this image for them to use so they won't have to go through all the trouble I, and the rest of my class did. I do think the image is very different from the other image in the section and describes the zones better, having little graphics that show what is in that area. (ex. Starfish, coral, sharks...) Could we keep the other image and just add this one as another one. To be honest, in my humble opinion, the other image tells way to much info, but more importantly is just BLAN. Thanks for understanding. --Photoguy2801 (talk) 16:44, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
I have started a discussion for you on the talk page. See here. Hopefully we'll be able to get some other editors' opinions. :) Avicennasis tb? @ 16:59, 3 Tamuz 5770 / 15 June 2010 (UTC)

I think the image(s), while a good illustration of the topic, is not ready to be included in the article. I believe if you are willing to make modifications to it, or perhaps allow another editor to modify it, that it could be included. As is, I don't feel it's a professional enough image to be included. I do like your idea and concept, however. Avicennasis tb? @ 18:33, 3 Tamuz 5770 / 15 June 2010 (UTC)

sd-f8 tagging

Hi Avicennasis: I have been declining some of your F8 taggings for example on File:Sarcophagus Battle Relief.JPG, as the commons page has incorrect license or attribution on it. In some cases different authors are claiming it as their own, PD changing to GFDL, or GFDL changing to PD, or GFDL with no attribution given. All those GFDLs are now CC-BY-SA-3.0 requiring an attribution, which should be correct. Perhaps you can go and fix the commons page as part of the effort. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:15, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up. I have been checking back on them by looking at my contribs in file namespace, and I did see a few that were declined. Most of them were bot moves to commons, which transfers everything, including the proper tag. However, it seems I did hit a few that were not assisted moves, and that seems to be the conflict here. I will try to reconcile the two different licenses when I see them, although probably with a good deal of help from the Commons community. Changing copyright tags is kind of intimidating for me, but I am sure I'll get the hang of properly handling these. Avicennasis @ 16:30, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
Yeah this can be tricky as you will have to determine who actually owns the copyright and respect their wishes. Sometimes you find that two apparently differnt users on commons and en.w are the same user! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 06:27, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Given the high amount of good articles you've been creating, I'd recommend you to seek getting the above right either now or at some point in the future (if you don't yet meet the suggested criteria) (nevermind, you definitely do). Hi, you created a very short stub at the above typoed spelling. Saint Paul's Episcopal Church (Lee's Summit, Missouri) already exists as a somewhat larger stub. LadyofShalott 09:07, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Ah. I was creating redlinks from National Register of Historic Places listings in Missouri, Counties J–K, so the redlink I followed must have been typo'd and my tired eyes didn't catch it. Thanks for the heads up and and the redirect. :) Avicennasis @ 09:14, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
Hey, that's funny! I just fixed the typo of Sunnit vs. Summit in the National Register of Historic Places listings in Jackson County, Missouri section of that page. This time, it seems like there was just a typo by an NRHP editor (I dunno, hope it wasn't me). For other NRHP items, there's sometimes a typo in the NRHP's NRIS database system, in which case a report mentioning that at wp:NRIS info issues MO or similar for a different state would be appreciated. But nothing to fix or report here, I think. Cheers, --doncram (talk) 06:15, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

The Duck Face

I have been trying to create a page on Wikipedia for "the duck face," but it sends me a reply when I do so that I am vandalizing the page. Can someone please help me?

Currently the page for "duck face" redirects to the page for "gurn," but it shouldn't do this because a "gurn" is a completely different thing. The gurn involves looking savage like a dog, but a duck face isn't like that.

This is my definition for "the duck face," and I would appreciate someone's assistance in effectively editing the page so that people do not group this in with being a "gurn."

The duck face is a term used to describe the face made when a person, lips together, props up his nose with his mouth. The mouth then rises and scrunches up - and out - under the nose to resemble the bill of a duck.

George Loomis —Preceding unsigned comment added by GeorgeLoomis3 (talkcontribs) 04:53, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) George - do you have any sources for this explanation of the term, and ideally some which would indicate that is more notable than a simple dictionary definition? Thanks.  7  04:56, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
I see that George has decided to take this idea to AfC - Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/The Duck Face. I don't think it's really a viable page, but I will want for another editor to make the call, since I am already a bit involved. :) Avicennasis @ 05:18, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
I see he made a good attempt at collecting some sources for duck face. However it's still just a neologism and not suitable for Wikipedia. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 16:01, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Chaosdruid (talk) 22:22, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Nope. You didn't miss anything, but it seems I might have. Looks like I hit the wrong button in Igloo (Revert instead of Skip). I have reverted my revert. :) Thanks for the heads up! Avicennasis @ 22:29, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
No probs :¬) I thought it might have been because of the large amount of text removed - but the editor did put in a lot to start with and then cut it right down.
Chaosdruid (talk) 22:35, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
Yep. Double-checked my logs - this edit is what triggered the red "vandalism" alert, and I hadn't seen the new edit. Looking at all three edits, however, seems fine. I retracted the warning statement on the user's page. :) Hopefully I didn't scare them off. Avicennasis @ 23:03, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Hello, why did you removed protection from Aghdara (town), when it was clearly protected by other moderator due it should be renamed after de-jure not de-facto--NovaSkola (talk) 15:08, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

Assuming you mean this edit, I didn't remove the actual page protection - I just removed the tag that said it was protected, because at that time it wasn't protected, so the tag was not accurate. If you feel this page should be protected, please feel free to ask at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. :) Hope that helps to explain my edit. Avicennasis @ 00:46, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Proper editing formats

I made a "minor edit" to the page "Christian Deism"; adding links and a single sentence.

How do I (or anyone) format the links properly?

B. Hebert —Preceding unsigned comment added by Brhebert (talkcontribs) 04:14, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

I removed all but three links, and formatted a fourth into a reference. I'll explain why.
These links:
all fail WP:SELFPUBLISH, which states: "Anyone can create a website or pay to have a book published, then claim to be an expert in a certain field. For that reason self-published media—including but not limited to books, newsletters, personal websites, open wikis, personal or group blogs, Internet forum postings, and tweets—are largely not acceptable.
Self-published material may in some circumstances be acceptable when produced by an established expert on the topic of the article whose work in the relevant field has previously been published by reliable third-party publications."
This link became the reference: http://www.earlyamericanhistory.net/founding_fathers.htm I changed some of the wording slightly, and added a few more catergories. you can see what all I changed in this diff. I also added project banners for Wikipedia:WikiProject Religion and Wikipedia:WikiProject Christianity on the talk page, which has added this article to the categories Unassessed Religion articles and Unassessed Christianity articles. That will notify the members of those projects to take a look at this article and help clean it up further. :) If you need any more help or want me to clarify anything, please feel free to ask. Avicennasis @ 06:48, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Removing stub tags on novels

You have been removing a number of stub tags from Novels articles that have been assessed as stubs without changing the assessment on the talk page, this makes it harder for the project to synchronize the stub categories and the assessment. Please change the article assessment if you identify such issues. Sadads (talk) 18:15, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

I am assuming you are referring to edits like this one to Blood Promise (novel)? If you mean the talk page assessment for Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels, could you please point me to the projects stub guidelines? The page seems longer than a stub to me, although there is no set length for this.
Also, assessment tags have their own value - If I remove a stub tab that also removes a page from Category:Novel stubs, it's no big deal. The assessment tag on the talk page still has that novel in Category:Stub-Class novel articles, which would be ideal for a project to work on. It's really a simple process. Compare categories - find pages that in the second category that are not in the first category, and you have a list of articles needing reassessed. This is why most WikiProjects have their own categories. I generally don't reassess articles for WikiProjects I am not a member of.
A much better idea, in my humble opinion, would be to change the talk page assessment rather than just reverting an edit and putting back a stub article into a article that doesn't really seem stubby. I was going to point out this edit to you, where you added a stub tag back onto quite a large page, but a glance at your talk page shows someone already mentioned it. :) Hope this helps you in some fashion and explains my actions. Avicennasis @ 21:10, 4 Elul 5770 / 14 August 2010 (UTC)
I am approaching it in the other direction, adding stub tags to pages that are already assessed, because most of them are stubs then are not. In this way, I get responses on my talk page when articles are not assessed correctly - the handful that are truelly not stubs. I see no objection to you updating Novels project assessments (as you will see in my edit comments), Novels does not have the manpower to reassess the 2500+ that don't have stub tags, this activates the users that watch/have interest in the page yet have neglected to update the article's assessment. Sadads (talk) 00:01, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
Nothing is going to break if the tags don't match. Stubs are a few sentences, and these articles are more than that. If you feel AWB should ignore that based on talk page assessments, please feel free to request that feature. Until then, if the article seems longer than stub, I will continue to remove said stub tag. I won't revert your reverts, but I do pull articles from random locations which I then pre-parse, so it may be possible I'll have a few of those in the mix.
Also, I think a good deal of the articles you re-add stub tags to don't deserve it, but since no one watches it, they don't see the change and so they don't mention it on your talk page. (Or just don't care enough to get into a discussion with you about it.) Assuming the tags belong based on lack of feedback may not be the best way to go with this. Nieher is forcing editors to reassess every page to justify said stub tag removal. You name does appear on the members list for WikiProject Novels - perhaps your time could be better spent performing the reassessments rather than asking others to do it? If you want, I would be happy to compare the categories above and try to make a list for you to go over. :) Avicennasis @ 00:25, 5 Elul 5770 / 15 August 2010 (UTC)
Nevermind, I made not only one, but two lists for you and your WikiProject to mull over, should you desire to. :) They can be found at User:Avicennasis/reports/WP:Novel List. Remember: The WikiProject exist to make sure the page contains the correct data and tags for the encyclopedia article. The encyclopedia article does not exist to make sure the tags match the (outdated) assessment. In short - fix the assessment, don't re-add a stub tag, to correct these errors. Stubsensor

The project Stubsensor was a project started and populated by User:Triddle, he left Wikipedia in 2008 and I closed the down the project after a brief discussion with him. There is a good foundation if you want to get it up and going again. Probably would need to move it to a project name space like Wikipedia:WikiProject Stubsensor. It is a good project for new users to learn on. Jeepday (talk) 23:10, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

This is interesting. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem that that source code is listed, so I will have to find my own way to try and compile the list. Not out of the question... I think I can get AutoWikiBrowser to help out at least in some parts. I currently have it crunching through 57,000+ stubs, so we'll see. :) I'll also look into WikiProject Unreferenced articles to see if I can lend a hand to that gigantic backlog. Avicennasis @ 23:58, 12 Elul 5770 / 22 August 2010 (UTC)
Sounds great :) JeepdaySock (AKA, Jeepday) 10:44, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
Turns out, User:Magnus Manske has a script that can help out very nicely. I had it run through 1 level of subcategories from Category:Stub categories, checking for all pages over 10kb. The results are at User:Avicennasis/StubList. I've looked over a few of these, and they all seem to be just that - large pages with stub tags. Do you think this is enough to get the Stubsensor project running again, or should these pass through a second filter of some sort? Avicennasis @ 04:14, 16 Elul 5770 / 26 August 2010 (UTC)
Looks good just like it is. JeepdaySock (AKA, Jeepday) 10:32, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
I have Wikipedia:WikiProject Stubsensor set up but am having a problem breaking up the list at User:Avicennasis/StubList can you break them into five hundreds? I you can put just the article names in the sub pages of Wikipedia:WikiProject Stubsensor/20100826 I can break them into groups of 20 folling the format used at User:Triddle/stubsensor/20070716/1. Jeepday (talk) 11:33, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
 Done with 1 through 14 for the subpages. Total count from User:Avicennasis/StubList came to 6666 pages. :) Avicennasis @ 13:18, 18 Elul 5770 / 28 August 2010 (UTC)

Ah, I used a script for that, forgot about the noinclusion. Sigh, so much to remember after a two year partial retirement. >.< Thanks mate, I'll stop screwing that up. Cheers, · Andonic Contact 07:29, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

A diff for your consideration: [2] Hesperian 00:35, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Ah, blast. Facepalm Facepalm I did hit quite a few of these, commented out sections that WP:AWB didn't catch. I thought I had stopped all of these, but it seems like a few may have gotten past my radar. I'll take more care in the future. :) thanks for the heads up! Could you please explain...

You nominated a numerous long standing and important images for deletion.

Could you please explain what's the problem with them. IQinn (talk) 00:42, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

It's not that the files are corrupt, but the file and description page is on Commons. As such, these images should be categorized there, not here. See this discussion for more background regarding the matter. — ξxplicit 01:21, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
You want to keep the pages and just remove the Category:Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse as it has been done recently? I think there is no good reason or consensus why these pages should not have this category. - IQinn (talk) 01:58, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict) The reason this is done is because, basically, there's no point to categorize them both here and at Commons, as it doubles the work. {{Commons cat}} exists to be placed in the related category here on en.wiki to link to the category at Commons for easy navigation of the files there. There is a general consensus to do this as noted in the link above, the problem is the wording of F2, as it's not specific enough. Maybe that should be worked on... — ξxplicit 02:19, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

I'm agreeing with Iqinn and declining all these speedy noms. It's OK for a Commons image to have a non-empty description page here, e.g. for featured pictures we categorise here and not on Commons. If you don't think the images should be categorised as they are on this wiki, then your beef is with the category category:Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse and not the images; you should complain here instead. Kimchi.sg (talk) 02:13, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

Yes, there are exceptions to the rule, but as far as I'm aware, those exceptions are only featured and values pictures. The categories themselves have never been the problem, especially when the categories aren't even file-specific. — ξxplicit 02:19, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
Well I just checked the wording of CSD F2. It allows non-empty description pages for all Commons images, not just some. Even if the enwiki description page contains only "asdfgfhgfh4325" it would not be deletable under this criteria. (But my example would be deletable as "test page"). CSD F2 is very very rarely used. I've just declined another one of your F2 noms on File:Porta Asinaria Facade from within the city walls.JPG, please review your own noms under CSD F2 as I don't think it'd be polite for me to. Kimchi.sg (talk) 02:33, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
Briefly - The image and all it's descriptions and categories are at Commons, and I've never seen a need to duplicate the work here. I have nominated hundreds of files for the same reason, in the same matter, and most have been deleted without problem. VPC's and the like I have left alone - I try to aim only for simple categories or test pages. I would hazard a guess that every single one of those images can be found via one of the articles in the same (or sub) category. Just because we can put something in a category doesn't mean we should. However, if there is a community consensus to keep such pages, I will happy change my ways. :) (As a side note for anyone who may be confused: I have no intent to delete the images themselves, only the local page.) Avicennasis @ 02:41, 28 Elul 5770 / 7 September 2010 (UTC)
  • "The image and all it's descriptions and categories are at Commons, and I've never seen a need to duplicate the work here." - Wrong, e.g. compare File:Im With Coco.jpg (cat by show, here) and commons:File:Im With Coco.jpg (cat by actor, commons). Having a description page on enwiki lets us keep different stuff here than on commons where it might not be useful.
  • "I have nominated hundreds of files for the same reason, in the same matter, and most have been deleted without problem." - And if I didn't tell you, hundreds more would have been deleted. Hundreds of wrongs don't make a right. :)
  • "if there is a community consensus to keep such pages, I will happy change my ways" - There is. The wording of CSD F2 doesn't permit deletion of non-empty Commons image pages: "...This also includes empty (i.e., no content) image description pages for Commons images." Categories also count as content. Kimchi.sg (talk) 02:59, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
Quite alright. But since I can't see my own deleted content, perhaps you or some other admin could look at my prior file deletions and make sure those other admins are clear as well? The other problem is where one might get their wording, and thus understanding, to CSD#F2. On Wikipedia:CSD, it states what you quoted above: "includes empty (i.e., no content) image description page". However, reading the wording from Template:Db-f2: "This file may meet Wikipedia’s criteria for speedy deletion as a corrupt or empty file, or a file description page for a file on Commons. " So, it's clear that one can read the same policy two different ways. I think the working may need changed on the template, so as better to reflect the policy at Wikipedia:CSD. :) Avicennasis @ 03:24, 28 Elul 5770 / 7 September 2010 (UTC)
Yes, you're right. Silly me forgot non-admins cannot review your deleted F2 nominations. :( Since I'll be going offline real soon, I've posted on ANI here for other admins to follow up. I've also changed {{db-f2}} to add "empty" next to "Commons". Thanks for your heads-up. :) Kimchi.sg (talk) 03:43, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
I think than in most cases there should not be a description page on en-wiki where the file is on Commons. Exceptions might be DYK etc. (we could probably add that to Commons but that is a different story). I think there is no need to review the F2 nominations because admins should check before they delete. As for the Category:Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse I see no reason why we should have images categorized both here and on Commons. Commons has 125 files in that category and enwiki only 12. So IF you really thought it is needed to have duplicate categories then you should add the missing 100+ files. But as I said I think it is not a good idea to duplicate the work. If you want to help categorize images there is a lot of work to be done on Commons. --MGA73 (talk) 07:22, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

Help with MigreLief Page

Hello,

We corresponded a few months ago. In July you offered to help with my MigreLief page which was rejected by Wiki. I haven't heard from you in a while. Is it something you are still willing to do? If not can you direct me to an editor that can give me advice or rewrite my page? Thank you.---- —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sallybass (talkcontribs) 14:40, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
