A Barnstar award: I take my hat off to you my man!! :)

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
For your undying dedication to this fantastic project, helping dozens of users requiring assistance on their installs, signing up scores of others, fixing hiccups in release 1.0 whilst still programming v. 1.01 and always with a smile! It's an honor to assist you, just wish I could do more... Congratulations my friend. - Glen T C 19:21, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks!!! My first ever barnstar =). I'll have to go put this on my userpage. And thank you also for all your hard work!! It's much appreciated and will be even moreso appreciated once I release 1.1. AmiDaniel (Talk) 19:37, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Funny I was just writing "I'm sure they'll be plenty more!" and had an edit conflict with another Barnstar (the irony!) You are very welcome, just wanted you to know that your work is not only noticed, but appreciated. I'd start a User:AmiDaniel/Barnstars page if I were you... you'll need one! :) As always a pleasure! - Glen T C 19:45, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I would start one for him but I'm not sure about the colour scheme. However, I'll do it anyway. *sneaks away to perform his vandalism for the night* — nathanrdotcom (TCW) 06:28, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I hope my addition gets unmarked as vandalism (heh) and you like the Awards page enough to use it. :) — nathanrdotcom (TCW) 07:12, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for my awards page. I've transcluded it on my userpage (though the page still doesn't look particularly good), and your edits are no longer deemed vandalism =). AmiDaniel (Talk) 08:51, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm glad you like it, just edit it to your liking. If the page gets particularly huge, just link to it instead (mine got huge). I didn't feel like coming up with a completely original style :P — nathanrdotcom (TCW) 19:26, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The Defender of the Wiki Barnstar
For creating the best ever tool to fight vandals! Computerjoe's talk 19:40, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks!!! Yet another barnstar, and both within twenty minutes of each other. I assume this barnstar is intended preemptively, as VP is not yet "the best ever tool to fight vandals," but hopefully, and with your help as a moderator, it will be someday! AmiDaniel (Talk) 02:27, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nonsense from a Vandal

Done. He's blocked. - Glen T C 20:05, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, my apologies for having removed this (I then reverted myself); I, too, refuse to censor messages on my talk page, but I'd failed to read your note apropos of your policy. Joe 19:48, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, so that's what caused the edit conflict. It's no problem at all; it honestly doesn't make much of a difference whether I got the "I hate you" message or not, but thank you for reverting yourself. Talk pages are a tricky thing when it comes to vandalism ... hard to draw the line between what should and should not be removed. AmiDaniel (Talk) 19:53, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'd guess it's one of those 'Your mileage may vary' things. I delete (or refactor) anything on my talk page I consider inflammatory. — nathanrdotcom (TCW) 06:26, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I get a lot of inflammatory crap on my talk page ... the price we pay for fighting vandalism ... but I find it upsets people even more if you delete their remarks. I also like to think of talk pages as a sort of backlog of the user's activities as well--they show what the user's been involved in, possible conflicts he's had, how he's dealt with problems, etc.--which I don't think should ever be deleted unless it's obvious, obscene garbage or meant to deface the talk page. I do, however, see no problem with retitling remarks to things such as "Nonsense From a Vandal," as titles are key in helping me keep track of everything. AmiDaniel (Talk) 06:32, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I got a lot of crap on my user/talk pages (obvious enough to deface the pages) probably because I have GLBT userboxes (people out there are really narrow minded) - because I can't think of any other reason for anon IPs to go after me. I just post links to the vandalisms on my user page and let people laugh at the little lamers.
Oh, I do agree with retitling. Maybe I should use that sometime. — nathanrdotcom (TCW) 07:35, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Stop reverting/deleting useful contributions without merging them after

On the Oren Patashnik article, this diff of your single action is the worst sort of unwikipedian half-assed job.

Obviously, some newbie tried to contribute to the article by providing a recent photo of Patashnik, which is useful and welcome (I hadn't found a good one when creating the article). Obviously, he tried to cut-n-pasted an Image tag from another page (the BSA article) and stuff it with the external URL to the photo he wanted to contribute. Obviously, the result was a wikicode mess, yet clearly not vandalism.

Obviously, if you decide to take on you to revert his contribution (misguided in form, useful in content), then you also have the duty to properly finish his and your job, and integrate his useful contribution in the proper wiki format, i.e. an external link to the photo. Your simply reverting him and doing nothing else is throwing the baby out with the bathwater, deleting and rejecting a useful contribution from a newbie, and is most toroughly unwikipedian.

This could eventually lead one to wonder if you're not performing such half-assed job more for the quantitative benefit of increasing the boasting count on your user page, than for the qualitative benefit of the Wikipedia.

-- 62.147.112.186 21:54, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Let me begin by saying that I do not take kindly to personal attacks (have you ever heard of assuming good faith, civility, and counterproductive behavior?).
Now that we have that out of the way: When I saw the edit, I reverted it as a test edit, which indeed it was, and left the user a message {{test}} that explained about the sandbox, provided a link to the welcome page where more help in formatting the image would be available, and encouraged him to contact me for help. What more would you have me do? Your message explained that I should have gone to the link of the image he wanted to add, saved the image to my computer, uploaded the image to Wikipedia, returned to the article, and added back the correctly formatted image. I apologize, but I'm sort of having some very stressful times right now fixing the bugs in my anti-vandal app, working on my own projects, and dealing with my real life--I can't stop everytime I see a newbie making a mistake, but had the anon contacted me I would have gladly helped him out.
The statistics I have displayed on my userpage are there to provide an example of one of the features of my application for interested users. I keep track of such things, and encourage others to do the same, as they help me judge my ability to identify vandalism, let me see where I commonly make mistakes so I can avoid them in the future, and let others see that I do indeed make mistakes. If I were boasting, my stats would simply say "I've reverted 1007 edits," rather than "15 of those were not vandalism." I really do not appreciate the inference that my contributions are to increase the "quantitative boasting count" of my ego, as every edit I make on Wikipedia is indended to improve the quality of the site. Before you start hating the counter-vandals, stop to consider how completely unusable this site would be if no one were there to double-check possibly destructive edits.
If you would like to respond to me, refrain from refering to my work as "half-assed" and using any other such insults. I don't at all understand where your hostility is coming from, and any other crude remarks will simply be ignored. Thanks. AmiDaniel (Talk) 01:22, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

VandalProof Install Failure

Hi: the page on VandalProof reads like 1.01 is out, but the download still pulls 1.0. When I installed 1.0 (I was approved yesterday), it says I have a login failure. When and how can I get 1.01 and can you help with this login failure? Rlevse 15:20, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PS: your instructions said to put subt:navpop in monobook, but it didn't seem to work until I made is subst, so you may have to look at my monobook. Rlevse 15:21, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm trying to get 1.1 ready to release late this evening or as late as tommorow evening; however the log-in failure doesn't result from anything that's been changed between versions. Check that you're using the monobook skin and that you are logged in within the browser window in VandalProof (in the upper right hand corner, as in your usual browser). I corrected the error with the instructions to install popups; thanks for pointing that out. In the future could you please post bugs such as this one at User:AmiDaniel/VP/Bugs, where you'll see that this is the most common problem that users have had, and advice on fixing it is also there. Thanks. AmiDaniel (Talk) 19:26, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In the future, could you please post bug reports and installation problems at User:AmiDaniel/VP/Bugs; you might find that your questions have already been answered. Oh, and I think I'm pretty good as far as moderators go, but I'll certainly keep you in mind. Thanks. AmiDaniel (Talk) 19:30, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Vandalproof main page protection

I have sprotected it and prevented page moves (history). I'm not sure how exactly to document this as we usually use {{sprotect}} or another template and list it on WP:PP. Just out of curiosity, would you be willing to tell me why you want that page to be sprotected? --PS2pcGAMER (talk) 23:37, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. After the moderator bug happened a couple of days ago, one non-mod was able to modify the welcome page and have his changes realised within VP, and then there was some chat in IRC about how easy it would be to get by my "security." The mod bug resulted from problems in reading the page history (I'll spare you the technical details), and if someone managed to move the page along with its history, it would be very simple for anyone to edit the resulting redirect to include their username and have his changes realized (as well as to disable the tool for everyone else, except for me of course =)). And especially since I'm now adding this "revert all user contributions" feature in the next release, I'm getting a little concerned about abuse. S-protecting's probably not neccessary at all, but I figured it wouldn't hurt anyone; the page move protection, however, could save me and other editors a lot of headaches. If you feel the need to add the template, would it be possible to add it further down the page (in the command's section) or on the talk page? Do you list userpages on WP:PP? I can think of quite a few admins with protected userpages, and it doesn't seem particularly vital to alert others when pages in userspace are protected, but I wouldn't object to your listing it there. As I said before, s-protection isn't really too necessary, so if you'd rather it just be move-protected, feel free to lift the semiprotection. Thanks again for your help! It's much appreciated. AmiDaniel (Talk) 23:56, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I checked how Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/CheckPage handled protection. Basically the page was protected while it was still in the userspace and after it was moved to the project space, it still never seemed to have any of the protection templates. I don't see a problem with leaving it sprotected with no template on this page, I was just curious if you had an opinion on it. Let me know if you need anything else and I am looking forward to seeing 1.1. --PS2pcGAMER (talk) 00:11, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, thanks for looking into that, and thanks for your help! I'm putting the finishing touches on 1.1 and might even release it tonight (just in time for Easter! We can go easter-egg hunting for vandalism!), but we'll see. Thanks again. AmiDaniel (Talk) 00:20, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
By revert all user contributions, do you mean all contributions? or just all contributions to one article? Prodego talk 00:08, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I explain it better on the main page, but essentialy you can load all of a user's contributions within the last 100 edits anywhere on Wikipedia that are on top into a list where it identifies which of his/her edits were made within the last 24hrs and gives you the ability to check/uncheck edits, preview edits, etc. And then, in one click, you can revert all of the user's edits (unless you specify that an edit should not be reverted) to the previous version. I'm sort of afraid that the risks in making this feature available outweigh the benefits (imagine a vandal with that ability), but it's definitely useful in cases of mass vandalism from one user. AmiDaniel (Talk) 00:17, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Would all the edits come in at once, or would they be spaced out(such as a second apart)? I don't think it would be good to have dozens of edits all be reverted the same second. Prodego talk 00:22, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Why not? I could understand if this were something that would be used frequently, but as it's only going to be used in cases of vandalbots and mass vandalism that has not been cleaned up yet, it hopefully will only be used a few times a week (if even that) and will likely only revert <30 edits at a time. It doesn't lag the servers at all, and it's essentially the same as going down the contribs list clicking rollback, rollback, rollback--just faster. When you're reverting all edits, you first retrieve the edits (number of edits on top, version to revert to) and then with one more click, it goes down the list one after another and reverts them to the retrieved version. It is remarkably fast, thus the dangers inherent, but when used responsibly there shouldn't be any problems with server lag, etc. Plus, if Bob reverts all of Prodego's edits, it wouldn't be too difficult for you to load his contribs and revert his reversions of your edits (after he's blocked of course). AmiDaniel (Talk) 00:27, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you know it won't lag the servers it sounds great, I just wasn't sure what they could handle. Keep up the good work! If you need anything, feel free to ask. Prodego talk 00:46, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

VandalProof 1.1 is Now Available For Download

Happy Easter to all of you, and I hope that this version may fix your current problems and perhaps provide you with a few useful new tools. You can download version 1.1 at User:AmiDaniel/VandalProof. Let me warn you, however, to please be extremely careful when using the new Rollback All Contributions feature, as, aside from the excessive server lag it would cause if everyone began using it at once, it could seriously aggitate several editors to have their contributions reverted. If you would like to experiment with it, though, I'd be more than happy to use my many sockpuppets to create some "vandalism" for you to revert. If you have any problems downloading, installing, or otherwise, please tell me about them at User:AmiDaniel/VP/Bugs and I will do my best to help you. Thanks. AmiDaniel (Talk) 06:41, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I guess in the future I should uncheck my name from the notify list. I hopefully don't need to be informed that the download's available... AmiDaniel (Talk) 06:56, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandal Proof

Hate to be a pain But Why am I noy on the list of approved users I have a message on my talk page saying I am Betacommand 07:14, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You are on the list. Try clicking the link in the 'Your log-in request failed' prompt that says "Try logging in again." It will load the typical log-in prompt for Wikipedia, where you should then log in as you usually would. If that doesn't work, check that you are using the monobook skin. AmiDaniel (Talk) 07:20, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, never mind. Somehow your name got lost in the confusion during the mod tools bug. You've now been added. AmiDaniel (Talk) 07:22, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

BIOS Messenger

Does your program use the BIOS messenger? XP service pack 2 has it disabled for security, but after I installed VandalProof, my anti-spyware informed me it was on. Is this from VandalProof or unrelated?

Prodego talk 13:14, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd have to think this is unrelated. VandalProof doesn't use BIOS messenger, so feel free to disable it again. AmiDaniel (Talk) 22:04, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandal Proof

How come when you press the any of the rollback {{subst:test}} buttons it doesn't rollback the changes, but it warns them? ILovEPlankton 20:16, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have popups installed? Later versions will be independent of popups, but for now you have to have it installed for rollback and edit summaries to work correctly. AmiDaniel (Talk) 22:02, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
What popups am I supposed to have installed? ILovEPlankton 16:03, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
AmiDaniel, I think that it's not rolling back the changes because popups does not work with IE. --Mets501talk 22:06, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I use popups with IE. The one problem popups has with IE is the annoying script error, but otherwise popups doesn't have any IE conflicts. AmiDaniel (Talk) 22:08, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This discussion has been moved to User:AmiDaniel/VP/Bugs#Automatic_.22Save_page.22_not_working. Please respond there. Thanks. AmiDaniel (Talk) 22:13, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

VandalProof

Hi, yeah this happened just after I downloaded v1.1. I downloaded it using IR Tbas in Firefox, then when I opended up VandalProof got that error message about running scripts and the programme unexpectedly closed twice. So I closed the IE Tab and got the error message again about scripts but the programme was working fine after that.

Can you just leave me ont he moderators list for 2 minutes, and I'll do exactly what I did before, and we can see if that causes the same thing to happen, and I can tell you in detail what I clicked on. --Wisden17 00:16, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I was able to isolate the cause. If you click update list before the list has been populated, it blanks it. The button shouldn't be enabled before the list loads, but somehow I misplaced the re-enable routine. I'll get that fixed up for the next release, but for now just be very careful when moderating the list. AmiDaniel (Talk) 00:22, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, yeah that is what I'd though I'd done. Sorry to have caused the page to blcnk, but at least we've found a new bug, which will be relatively easy to solve. --Wisden17 00:25, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How do you do that?

How do you get your userpage and talkpages to show your online status at the top using green button image? Can you show me how to do this? Thanks! --Strothra 03:43, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. First of all you have to create the StatusDiv page (you can see mine at User:AmiDaniel/StatusDiv) in your own userspace. The create a Status page (mine is at User:AmiDaniel/Status), which you then transclude on your userpage/talk page using {{User:YOUR_USERNAME/Status}}. Whenever you want to change your status, goto your status page and change the paramater to Online, Away, Busy, Sleeping, etc. If you'd like, I'd be glad to set this up for you. AmiDaniel (Talk) 04:02, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was wondering if you new how to add anther status? Betacommand 04:16, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, that's a piece of cake. Simply open up your /StatusDiv and add:
| case: KEYWORD=STATUS [[Image:Example.jpg|40px]]
Naturally, replace KEYWORD with the word you want to indicate the status, STATUS with your status message, and Example.jpg with the image you want it to display. AmiDaniel (Talk) 04:40, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Did you try clicking the "Try logging into Wikipedia" link within the log-in request failure message? It's possible that the cookies aren't getting stored properly when you simply sign into IE. Also, make sure that you're using the monobook skin. AmiDaniel (Talk) 04:43, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Names of Friends to 1990

Hey there! How are you doing? I recently added this page:http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=1990&diff=next&oldid=48705527 and it was taken down by you, i was told to use the sand box however the information is true because i personally know this person, i watched him while he was hacking and he is not a script kiddie either. I wish to be anonymous because for my own privacy.

thanks -this ip address —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 216.86.146.185 (talkcontribs) .

Wikipedia's not the place to add information about you and your friends. In order to be included in that list, a person must meet certain standards of notability. By the way, registering for an account protects your privacy far more than having your IP address displayed for everyone to see (you're connected through Network Operations Group in Fond du Lac, WI, US). (edit conflict)You are on the approved list, so the problem is likely one of two things: 1) You are not logged into the imbedded IE browser. Click the "Try logging into Wikipedia" link within the log-in request failure message. 2) If you are not using the monobook skin, you likely will not be able to log in. Try switching to monobook. Yeah, it has to be stored in your IE cookies to work. Glad you got it fixed, and feel free to contact me if you have any problems. AmiDaniel (Talk) 03:30, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism?

I noticed that you had left me a notice to use summaries in my edits, but even when I did so, 68.33.79.218 (talk · contribs) keeps re-editing the Snowboard Kids article back to a disorganized and sloppy state despite my efforts in cleaning it up. Please help, I'm sick of him messing things up! Sarahsuke 04:39, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I looked at his contributions to the article and they do indeed appear to be detrimental to the article. To avoid WP:3RR, I suggest that you post a message on his talk page or the article's talk page. I'll keep the article on my watchlist, but I'm hesitant to revert anything that is not vandalism. If he refuses to stop, please contact me again. AmiDaniel (Talk) 04:46, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

VandalProof problems

No, I didn't tweak it. What's been happening, and I have notived this with other users as well I believe, is that when the VandalProof refert button is pressed the program acts like it reverts the changes but instead only posts a warning message. So what I've been doing is clicking the Revert {{subst:test:?}} button and quickly pressing my admin rollback button however sometimes the page loads to fast. Is there something I can do to avoid this problem? Thanks for noticing. ¡Dustimagic! (T/C) 05:18, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Aha, I know why. I just checked your monobook and you don't have popups installed. Unfortunately VP is currently still dependent upon popups (though I didn't know until about two days ago ... I thought autoclick and autosummary were built into WP), but later releases will be independent of it. In fact, my local version is almost free of popups, just a couple more hours and it'll be there. For now, you're just going to have to add {{subst:navpop}} to your monobook.js. Sorry about the inconvenience, but that should fix the problem. AmiDaniel (Talk) 05:24, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I was just reading this over and saw that might be the problem. Keep up the improvements and good work with the program I think its amazing despite my problems. ¡Dustimagic! (T/C) 05:27, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nav system

I like the new navigation system you made. Puts the old one to shame!--Mboverload 05:43, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was gonna' run it by you before implementing, but figured you'd see it just the same. I really can't take any credit for it though, as I just stole the layout for the VillagePump and tweaked it into my own. And I would have never thought of using a NavBar had it not been for you! Thanks for all your help, and I'm glad you like it. The only problem is that it's a little too large, and I had to remove it from the start page (damn browser memory leak problem again), so I'm probably going to have to come up with a better for the start page. But yeah, we'll see... AmiDaniel (Talk) 05:50, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

VandleProof application

It would have never occurred to me that removing a {{warn1}} from my talk would be construed as vandalism, but you are correct – it's on the vandalism link, provided in the warning. I took it as a polite warning and left it at that. At that point, what I knew of the talk page was taken from the tutorial listed on the main page. There is no mention of removing warnings being an issue. When I got the warning, I figured I knew what vandalism was and what the warning was for and haven't received a warning since. You would think that someone with subvercive intentions would receive multiple warnings, likely have been banned for a time - none of which pertain to me. My unsigned post of “ha ha ha” to an IP:Talk that had committed blatant vandalism was ill considered. It was also done before becoming slightly wikiholic. I have rectified that situation by returning it to my talk page. I take my status seriously and am working to improve wikipedia. That is why a good portion of my edits have been to disambiguate such an exciting topic as nasal. Again, does some vandal indicate by his behavior by performing such rewarding activities?

I have been using popups to revert blatant vandalism. I do this for articles even where I completely disagree with the topic because I'm interested in decent contributions, not juvenile antics, despite what the “ha ha ha” portrays (see Cynthia McKinney – interestingly enough, you and I reverted the same IP vandal User:71.10.160.198 6 Apr 06. It took some learning and in that case, I think I had a learning-curve misfire and reverted to the wrong version – but I ultimately got it right. That’s when I started using Vandal Fighter, but still find that it appears others were having an easier time reverting vandalism; to wit, the summary comments that yours displayed as referenced and CSCWEM (same article, subsequent reverts). That’s why I’m looking for an easier to use or cleaner tool. I don’t like using popups to revert because it references an article number and you have to constantly check to ensure you’re reverting to the correct article.

Regarding your comment on My talk in combination with the edit summary, I am left with a question. When you say “(→Your VandalProof application - Removing warnings = no vp for you)” do you mean forget about it (period), because I made a warning-removal mistake (early in my wikilife) – that’s it, it’s final? Is this something that you will reconsider at a later date? Has any of this further clarified what I am trying to do and what my intentions are? --Geneb1955 06:19, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Let me start by saying that my remarks in no way finalized that you would never be allowed to use VP. I should have made that more explicit in my remark, and I apologize. It would be quite extremist and absurd for me to "ban" individuals from using my app simply because they removed a {{test1}} notice, and that was in no way my intent. I merely wanted to let you know that many contributors, myself included, frown at removing warnings as such actions appear dishonest and unwikipedian. There's currently a debate going on about this very issue, and it's likely that we will soon see a policy change. Despite my earlier comment, I actually don't believe removing warnings to be an act of vandalism, though I do believe it should not be tolerated. And, as an aside, the edit summary was simply a really bad joke on my behalf that I never considered anyone would read (see Soup Nazi), and was in no way intended for you to read. Again, I apologize.
I've re-added your username to the approval holds list, as I am now, primarily as a result of your remarks, seriously reconsidering approving you, and I will likely reach a decision on it tomorrow. I do now believe that your intentions are good; however, you are still lacking the substantial evidence to prove this (i.e. your relative inactivity within Wikipedia), but I think I will likely make an exception in this case. I was actually in about the same boat as you when I began writing this tool, so I entirely understand where you're coming from. But anyway, I'm on my way to bed right now, but tomorrow evening I will have decided what to do (perhaps after some discussion with my fellow moderators). However, if you are rejected, I do strongly encourage you to resubmit your name in a couple of weeks, once you have more evidence to support your intentions.
Again, I apologize for the confusion and my accusative tone in my previous remark, and I will seriously reconsider this. I further would like to thank you for your civility and your convincing comments in this matter, and I hope none of this will discourage you from contributing to Wikipedia. Thank you for your time. AmiDaniel (Talk) 06:57, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wow! First of all, thanks - this is really making my life easier. I will do my best to answer my own questions. The only thing I've run into so far is that I'm a relatively old fart and it would be way cool if I could set up a default font size a few points larger - the eyes aren't what they used to be. But I'll look around, maybe it's there and I just haven't found it. Thanks again --Geneb1955 09:51, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A request

I love your idea to use the buttons for your status. It certainly captures the attention of visitors.

I like it so much I want to use it for my userpages. However, I thought I should ask you first.

So: may I use your button-status idea for my userpages? =) I could do the coding myself if you approve (except maybe the JS x_x). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kalathalan (talkcontribs) .

Actually it's not my idea--it was stolen from Misza13 (talk · contribs); thus, I have no problem with you using it. I actually wish everyone would use this as it's very helpful in letting others know when you are/are not available. You can copy the code from User:AmiDaniel/StatusDiv and User:AmiDaniel/Status into your own userspace, and then transclude /Status into your userpage/talk page. If you need help, I'd be glad to set it up for you. AmiDaniel (Talk) 06:34, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot for allowing me to use it =) I'll try to set it up now. Kalani [talk] 06:46, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, I got the /Status and /StatusTemplate pages down, but according to Misza13 (talk · contribs)'s page, the JS should help in updating it quickly. I was never good with the monobook and JS - how should I use it? Kalani [talk] 06:56, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You can simply go to User:Kalathalan/Status and change the last parameter to either "online," "busy," "away," or "sleeping" and then hit save. AmiDaniel (Talk) 07:02, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with Vandalproof

Hi, I just tried to use Vandalproof and even though you've said I'm on the approved list it is still giving me the login error page. Pegasus1138Talk | Contribs | Email ---- 07:31, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Try clicking the link title "logging into Wikipedia" and be sure to check the "Remember Me" option once you have entered the correct username and password. Also check that you are using the monobook skin. AmiDaniel (Talk) 07:35, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I got logged in within VP and it still sends me to the error page, whenever I try to load a page it also keeps giving me the error popup box so I don't know if that has something to do with it. Pegasus1138Talk | Contribs | Email ---- 07:43, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Got it to work, thanks though the user contribs thing doesn't really work that well since it isn't pulling up any contribs. Maybe something with the way the tool is pulling it? Pegasus1138Talk | Contribs | Email ---- 21:33, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The user contribs only loads any contributions within the previous 100 that are on top (no one has modified the page since that edit). It's supposed to make it quicker to find vandalism that has not yet been reverted. AmiDaniel (Talk) 00:07, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

University Venture Fund

Ami, I hope this finds you well. I am the one who changed the University Venture Fund page. I am a managing director with the fund and did not want our partners listed on the site. The list was very outdated. Also, we are no longer a non-profit organization. Best, -Mark Campbell

VandalProof Eligibility

Amidaniel,

I have a question about VandalProof eligibility.

The front page says that one must have 250 edits to register. The talk page said that one must have 250 mainspace edits to register. I'd like to know which one is the "official" ruling, as I have 250 edits but not 250 namespace edits.

Thank you very much, (^'-')^ Covington 09:13, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I trust this user, and therefore have approved him. Computerjoe's talk 10:18, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Computerjoe. (^'-')^ Covington 14:46, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have a question as well. Apparently the edit counter is having problems because I have edited numerous articles and fought several acts of vandalism over the past few days and there is no change in the number of edits. I asked about the counter changing and was told there were problems. As you can see from contributions I have numerous over the past request since my last request. I am concerned with fighting vandalism on this site but for some reason my edit count stays at 243 as you said before just shy of me making the 250. But this sems to be a problem with the counter.--Gnosis 18:06, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not problems, but a lag, the toolserver counter (not any other counters) is behind real time, currently 11 hours, 44 minutes. Prodego talk 21:00, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, there are people waiting on your approval requests list, one person for 3 hours... Prodego talk 21:06, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the toolserver is officially down, and likely for quite some time. However, if the edit count replicated by the toolserver is below the 250 mainspace mark, I then load up flcelloguy's tool (which is independent of the toolserver, though much slower and less user-friendly) to look at the user's count, and in any case, I typically look more at the user's recent contributions to see what kind of activity s/he has been involved in, as that truly matters more that how many edits s/he's wracked up. The official "policy" is 250 mainspace edits, but that was just added after one user applied with 300 edits to his own userspace and only a few in mainspace. If a user is lacking on mainspace but has a considerable ammount of project-/wikipedia-space edits, etc., it likely won't matter that s/he was "below the bar," so to speak. Decisions are ultimately based upon whether or not the user has enough evidence to be able to trust him/her or not with the tool. I certainly don't feel that edit count says much about a user's quality or character, but a certain number of edits are necessary to be able to make an adequate judgement. VandalProof Probs

Hi I approved some new users, and they added to the list fine. I then clicked on welcome selcted users, and the little blue progress bar in the window completed, then I got a runtime error and VP closed. Now I see that not only did it not add welcome messages to the selected users it deleted User:Spangineer from the awaiting approval list, and it won't let me onto VP now, saying my login request failed. --Wisden17 22:19, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The log-in problem is now resolved (hopefully). I post a brief about it later. The Welcome Users routine is again having problems, this time resulting from compilation optimization. I'm working on a fix. AmiDaniel (Talk) 00:05, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, but it doesn't work

AmiDaniel,

Thanks for adding me to the list of authorized users of VandalProof. I'm getting a "Your log-in request failed" message when I tried to use it, though. I tried logging in through the current browser as was suggested, but still get the message. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Catbar (Brian Rock) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Catbar (talkcontribs) .

Make sure that you are using the monobook skin. That seems to have caused this problem for others. AmiDaniel (Talk) 01:15, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What languge did you program vandal proof in???

As per above, just curiosity. (I am C++ programmer). Eagle (talk) (desk) 01:16, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's actually written in VB6, believe it or not. It's something that, if I could start all over, I would likely write in C (though my C's a bit rusty lately), but after I started it in VB, it kept growing and growing until it became what it is today. Honestly, VB's not that horrible of a language--I work freelance as a VBA and ActiveX developer, mainly for AutoCAD and other engineering tools, which is why I'm pretty comfortable with the language. The only problem with VB is that it makes it too easy to get sloppy with the code (which often leads to serious headaches later on), and distributing it is an absolute bitch (so many dll's, ocx's, and other nonsense). But if you're interested in how it works, I'd be glad to provide some insight and code snipplets; however, I'm not going to go opensource with it until I can bring it to a stable version (I actually just began writing it about three weeks ago, so it's quite a baby of an application). AmiDaniel (Talk) 01:33, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

{{user2}}

Sorry, didn't know your app required user2 to be the way it was. I won't change it back since it isn't that big of a deal to remove it but since the toolserver tool doesn't have much of a notice (only regular sized blinking text) that it is becoming increasingly out of date due to not getting new data I figured that it was misleading to have the toolserver count link up on the template. Since this is a global template I'd also suggest changing wherever possible in your code to point to a user subpage template version and change your subpages as such since that will prevent any future problems just in case the template ever needs to be modded in the future. Pegasus1138Talk | Contribs | Email ---- 01:38, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's really not much of a big deal to change, and it probably wasn't the brightest idea on my behalf to make my app dependent upon a global template--I just never foresaw the toolserver going down and the template becoming outdated. I'm now scrambling, as I believe many are, to eliminate my dependency upon the toolserver count, and I will no longer need the template in the next release. It sure would have been nice if someone would have let us know that en would no longer replicate data on the toolserver though! A lot of devs making rash decisions without warning anyone beforehand. Thanks for your understanding. AmiDaniel (Talk) 01:46, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is it ok

to use the notifiy contributors function of this program for things other than vandalism, or things related to vandalism?

Interesting, with the source code, unfortunatly that means I am unable to help, as I am a self taught C++/CLI programmer. I am a freshman in colledge and will learn more languages next year.

If there is any application for C++ here, I would be glad to lend a hand. I have programmed User:Gnome (Bot) from the .NET framework up. Eagle (talk) (desk) 03:01, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the notify contributors function was intended to be used to alert contributors that their articles have been nominated for deletion, etc., though I also use in mass posting updates about VandalProof and welcoming users. Thanks for offering your help, and it may well be needed. If anything, programmers of all languages tend to have a keen eye for recognizing common causes of bugs and whatnot, so your help could greatly be needed in helping users with bugs and technical problems they're having. AmiDaniel (Talk) 03:06, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Kind of hard to program without recognizing bugs... that would be a nightmare. Anyway, let me know when and if I can help, (though if you do need my help, please post on my page as I don't check up on talk pages very much.) Thanks for programming VandalProof. Certianly, you may... It is not open source, but I can send you parts of it by email.

1)Please give me till tomarrow (probably night), It is 2:00AM here, and I don't want to look at code, and if I did I would 99.9% of the time send you the wrong part.

2)make sure that the timer is triggered BEFORE the program calls the webBrowser, but AFTER the program does all the fancy stuff, (finding out how many times each editor edits an article, ect.)

  • The timer (in my mind) should trigger the instant that the "send" button is pressed (too tired I can't remember what you called it :-). and agian (for a shorter time, the instant the web browser opens to the "edit this page" I should clarify, as soon as the web browser reports document compleated. Eagle (talk) (desk) 07:16, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I don't need the source code desperately, but I do enjoy browsing others' code to see their little tips and tricks. Fixing My Userpage

Thanks for fixing the puppet master box on my userpage! I was looking around for a gender specific version of the box (as it seems quite unnecessary to be gender neutral when the gender of the user is clearly known), and I never even thought to try a second paramater! Alternate edit counter and mirrors

Why not mention Interiot's Tool 2 to the VandalProof users? Your edit counter didn't work right when I asked it for my edit count.

Feel free to let me know of any software you make public, I'll be happy to mirror it for you. — nathanrdotcom (TCW) 07:39, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Interiot's Tool 2 doesn't work for me (it needs FireFox), and from what I understand, it does more or less the same thing as Flcelloguy's tool, meaning it takes a long time to process on many users. How do you mean that it didn't work? It can't count more than 5000 edits, but as long as you set the limit high enough and below 5000 it should return an exact count (though the whole point of the tool was that you can set it much lower to see simply if the user has x amount of edits or not). AmiDaniel (Talk) 16:06, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ahh Tool 2 needs FireFox. I didn't think of that one.
Yeah, I raised the limit (on yours) to 10000, and it crashed. But at least I know the whole point of the tool isn't to necessarily count all their edits :P *gives you chocolate* — nathanrdotcom (TCW) 22:20, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm getting the same problem with VP when I try to add a welcome template to new users. Mass talk page edits

When you do mass talk pages edits, such as to all users who user VandalProof, is there a way to automate that vice editing each page one at a time. I am the Scouting Project Coordinator and sometimes I'd like to make an announcement to everyone, but it takes to long. So, I'm left with making the announcement on our "current issues" section and only editing the talk pages of those who are most likely to respond. Rlevse 10:04, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It can be done with VP (though I'm using a slightly modified version when I alert multiple users of downloads and whatnot), but you'd probably be better off using something like WP:AWB. AmiDaniel (Talk) 20:51, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Why did you move this policy?!

I moved the page because the talk page had recently seemed to be moved, but the content page had not, leaving to a talk page with a red/uncreated project page. I assumed that the person who moved the page had simply forgotten to move the proposal page along with this; with the many discussions on renaming the proposal and the title not indicative that the page was supposed to be a subpage of the original proposal, I didn't realize that the talk had simply been moved to an archive. I apologize for this error and will rectify it immediately. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 04:05, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Difference between Vanity and Notability?

Hey Ami... as the user who greeted me to Wikipedia more than a month ago, I thought I should go to you for this... My username (Ardo Melnikov) is that of a fictional character from the Starcraft Book series. Specifically, the book Starcraft: Speed of Darkness. As the character I stole my name from is the main name of the character in the book, if I created that article, would it be construed as a Vanity article, even if I am not the character in question?

Sincerely, Logical2u 22:08, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Technically, vanity is not a reason for an article to be deleted (see WP:AUTO); however, I'm sure that such a contribution would cause several editors to raise some eyebrows, myself included. The real question in deleting an article is typically whether or not the topic is notable enough to warrant an article, not who wrote it. Often times, however, when the username is closely related to the topic of the article, it is regarded by same as fancruft, which typically leads to it being deleted, yet I would say that if the article is well-written and about a notable-enough topic, your username should not matter. That being said, you might want to consider changing your username, as it's often a bad idea to name yourself after a notable character/person. Wikipedia:Username states that you should not "use the real name of well-known figure, especially one still living, unless you are that person," and it is typically encouraged that you use your own name or something close to it (i.e. my name is Daniel Cannon, but my pseudonym here is AmiDaniel). If you have any more questions, feel free to ask =). AmiDaniel (Talk) 22:19, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NET. Framework??

Is your program useing the NET. Framework??? if so I have some code that you may be able to incorporate... (I will give it to you about a week from now... as I want to clean it up a bit (I have my pride)

Are you able to respond to question??? if not for whatever reason, I will understand:-). (this opensource thing is really getting out of hand... I have been watching it... looks like a frustrating mess:-( shakes head.

Eagle (talk) (desk) 22:34, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ahh!! Sorry... I'm truly not ignoring you, just really overwhelmed at the moment. Actually, VP is not .net (I sort of despise the .net revolution, as I find VS6 to be the best ever released), but I would still be curious to see source code if you don't mind. But on the same topic as the GPL mess, I'd just have to make sure that, before including anything of it into my code, that you will allow me to use it in my app without it being GPL, that your app is not GPL, and that it does not use source code from a GPL app. I really hate all this legal bullshit, and you can see more of the fight over GPL at User talk:Avillia and User talk:Bluemoose. It's starting to look like we may see an ArbCom soon. Oh joy. AmiDaniel (Talk) 23:12, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Ditto on the legal Bullshit, I have been watching the crap:-). My app is in no way shape or form GPL, hell I have never really "got" what it meant untill now... :-) on the code, give me a week or two, thanks.Eagle (talk) (desk) 23:24, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
      • P.S. I understand, I just figured that my message was merely overlooked, that is why I added the new title.:-)

VP

Hi just added a user, and the list of approved users got deleted. Can't seem to get it back and the lsit will now not laod in the moderator tools. Can you revert the edit. Ii still can't get the welcome checked users to work either. --Wisden17 22:56, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed but until a moderator changes it, it won't work. Prodego talk 23:01, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
How is it fixed? I just tried reverting it with popups, but I forgot that won't work as the list has to be done via the programme. This happened before, although that time the whole list got deleted. AmiD was able to rever the edit. --Wisden17 23:06, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed. Please be careful not to hit Update List until the list has been populated. The bug has been repaired in the next release. AmiDaniel (Talk) 23:08, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, yeah sorry about that. I only noticed after I'd clicked update list, I'm just off to bed, so probably not the best time to be doing it! Is there any way for me to actually fix that if I do make a mistake like that, or do you have to re-populate the list manually? --Wisden17 23:12, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The easiest fix is to open up both the welcome page and the talk page and revert them to the last version before it got blanked. Then run mod tools and add the user back in. AmiDaniel (Talk) 23:15, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That is why more moderators are useful, it took you 7 minutes to update the page after I fixed it. Prodego talk 23:12, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Point taken. Would you like to be a mod? AmiDaniel (Talk) 23:15, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think it would help to do what AWB does and open it to all admins, especially as Vandalproof becomes more popular. However in short of that allowing anyone who is interested, (within reason, require a few thousand edits for example), such as Fetofs above can't hurt. Prodego talk 23:24, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that it wouldn't hurt, but it means a lot more work for me. I sort of made it hard on myself to add moderators--they each have to be added by hand, and there is a certain limit on the number that it can handle (likely around 15 or so). I'll add you and Fetofs to the list sometime though. Sorry for not noticing the above comment from you and him--messages left for me when I'm offline occasionally go unanswered or answered by someone other than me because I just don't notice them. Lemme go have a smoke and then I'll add you two to the list. AmiDaniel (Talk) 23:30, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, its hard when you are so successful,  ;-) but the messages will probably die down as bugs are fixed, and the program is refined. Prodego talk 23:33, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps you should program in a list of moderators, like the approved list, but it would check the last version by you? That might make adding mods simpler, but I don't know if it would be worth the work... Prodego talk 23:39, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism warning (On Hold)

I am contesting the vandalism warning on German Goo Girls by User:Srikeit issued to User talk:195.188.152.12

I quote from the definition of vandalism : "Any good-faith effort to improve the encyclopedia, even if misguided or ill-considered, is not vandalism. Apparent bad-faith edits that do not make their bad-faith nature inarguably explicit are not considered vandalism at Wikipedia. For example, adding an opinion once is not vandalism — it's just not helpful, and should be removed or restated."

My addition was a good-faith effort to improve the entry, and Srikeit overstepped the mark in my opinion calling it vandalism. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 195.188.152.12 (talkcontribs) .

I'll resond to this later tonight. I'm a little busy at the moment. AmiDaniel (Talk) 00:25, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, there's no need. I now suspect that the warning about vandalism was probably auto generated by the tool being used to revert the entry, which I acknowledge did need revisiting. An unfortunate use of the term vandalism. Perhaps the tool should be changed to allow the user to select a less inflammatory phrase when reverting an entry for other reasons than vandalism?
195.188.152.12 00:41, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Further to User:Srikeit - if you read his talk page User_talk:Srikeit it seems I'm not the only one to have a problem with his (imo) overzealous reverting. S/he states on another talk page that s/he has been doing it for about a week and already you can see the amount of controversy that has arisen. Reverting obvious vandalism is one thing, but s/he seems to think that anything contributed by someone without an account and without an edit summary should be reverted and seems to pay little or no attention to the actual entry. See his/her reverting of Lien-Da as another example.

I for one won't be bothering to contribute to Wikipedia any more if every time I add something I have to deal with this sort of nonsense. 195.188.152.12 08:43, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

==Do Not Remove Warnings== Please do not remove warnings from your talk page or replace them with offensive content. Blanking your talk page will not remove the warnings from the page history. If you continue to blank your talk page, you will lose your privilege of editing your talk page. Thanks. Fetofs Hello! 01:20, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please ignore this warning, probably misclicked. Fetofs Hello! 01:58, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

LMAO! I seem to keep getting into trouble with my edit summaries being misunderstood. Like, when I can't think of an appropriate summary of my edits on a talk page that don't really need explaining I just type in a random song lyric from a song I'm listening to...seems to aggitate some people. It's nice to know I've got someone watching out for my every mistake though! lol AmiDaniel (Talk) 02:39, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I'm trying to find all your mistakes in your program, why not fix the programmer too!!! (you do realize that I mentioned this as a joke).Eagle (talk) (desk) 02:42, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Lol, yes, I realize that! It's so hard to illustrate sarcasm when typing, even with the appropriate smilies. Well, I need all the fixing I can get! You've certainly heard the expression "garbage in, garbage out" lol. Alright, well, I'm off to a party right now, so I likely won't answer anything till morning--that should give you plenty of time to find bugs lol. AmiDaniel (Talk) 02:51, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oops :-) sorry Eagle (talk) (desk) 02:58, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Would you consider me as a moderator??

Just curious, as I am on wiki quite often, and have interest in this program. In addition I understand the security risks.Eagle (talk) (desk) 02:56, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Most definitely, especially if you'd be willing to deal with putting bug alerts, fixes for common problems, etc. on the Welcome Page. We're slowly starting to reach the technical limitations on how many moderators VP can handle, but one or two more should still be okay. Let me go do that right now. AmiDaniel (Talk) 20:39, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Then put me on board!!! I would be more than willing!!!:-) I have already started a summery on User:Eagle 101/Sandbox, it is a user subpage now, but some of it may be able to be transferred to the welcome page.Eagle (talk) (desk) 00:47, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Let me know when and if you put me on the list, I will do some edits and updates to the bug reports tonight:-). Eagle (talk) (desk) 00:52, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Userbox

I just whipped up a VandalProof userbox, and was wondering if you'd like it for distribution; this one is for moderators (I'm not one, but I just made it anyway), and I can make one for users. Thanks for considering my request, and cheers! _-M o P-_ 04:47, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure! I love it! While we're at it, I'll go ahead and add a couple more. I might have to get a better screenshot for the graphic though. Oh, and the last one can be just for me =). If you'd like to be the last moderator, I'll see if I can get you in... we really are at about the edge of VP's abilities with mods though. AmiDaniel (Talk) 20:46, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You could use Image:Eclipse logo.svg I thought it looked VandalProofy ;-), see my userpage. Prodego talk 22:35, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'd love to be a moderator; however, if turning me into one causes too much stress and work, then I'd rather you don't for your sake. But if there is an opening, sure! P.S. Also, I like the edit summaries; especially the Rammstein. :P _-M o P-_ 05:10, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
And I noticed that my Awards page has been going around a bit. Nice to see that my evil plan for world domination on Wikipedia is working. >:) _-M o P-_ 05:38, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Searching for Angela Shelton

I noticed that you proposed my article be deleted. I just curious as to what was wrong with it and how I can improve to keep it from being deleted. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Kc12286

(Joining the conversation; I hope no one will find this gauche.) If the information at Angela Shelton can be verified (it's largely unsourced), I'd be inclined to remove your {{prod}} from Searching for Angela Shelton, inasmuch as the documentary would likely be notable if indeed Shelton appeared to promote it on The Oprah Winfrey Show; I do think a case could likely be essayed for a simple redirect from the documentary to the Shelton article, since the article covers the documentary in much greater detail, but it is likely preferable that the detailed info instead be moved to the documentary article. In any case, I'll look into it tomorrow when I have a bit more time. Joe 05:46, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The information in both the Angela Shelton and Searching for Angela articles is taken largely from her official website (bearing in mind copyright laws). However, I did happen to see the 48 Hours special, myself, which resulted in my buying the movie. I just updated the page and included links to both the Searching for Angela Shelton website and a link to purchase the video. I will include a link the article itself. Kc12286Kc12286

I'm going to let Joe handle this (as he already has) because I'm extremely busy at the moment. Thanks Joe! AmiDaniel (Talk) 06:01, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hopefully the final test (again). AmiDaniel (Talk) 06:12, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

VandalProof

Do you need anymore moderators for VandalProof? ILovEPlankton 13:12, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think we're really at about the end of the line with mods right now. I'm going to add Eagle 101 because he has a lot of technical knowledge and perhaps MoP (if he even fits), but then VP really won't be able to handle more. Sorry. But thanks for the offer! Bugs

I have a bug with the moderator functions: some users aren't welcomed at all (i.e. Zxcvbnm, and others are welcomed multiple times, I apologize if this has already been brought up somewhere.

Prodego talk 17:13, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, it's been brought to my attention before. With these edits, I was able to confirm that I have indeed repaired it in the next version for both the compiled and uncompiled versions. AmiDaniel (Talk) 20:36, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reorganization of your bug page

I thought I should ask you first. I would like to reorganize your bug page, grouping "fixed"("addressed" i.e. in next version) bugs togather and "unfixed" bugs in another group. Let me know what you think, but this change will make the page more readable. (then as we move to new versions of the program I or you can move old bugs into an archive)

P.S. I responded above about being a moderator, I responded yes, I would be glad to be able to update the welcome pages for you. (I may not do all that much "new user" approval, but I think my value is elsewhere:-).Eagle (talk) (desk) 02:15, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

underoath edit

hey - sorry about not leaving an edit summary, i went to change back my edits soon after anyways...i had read online that the band prefered to have their name formatted in all caps, similar to how the band dredg is always formatted in all lower-case. I then soon after found that it has also been presented in various forms of formatting (underOATH, for example), and therefore would probably be best left as it was, in standard form. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.233.86.112 (talkcontribs) .

I love your edit summeries :-)

They are so funny, especially when you are fighting vandals or finding bugs, (up to 3 more!!!, but I am waiting for the new version, as I suspect that these will be solved, plus they are really obscure) anyway here is a sample of the latest time you made me laugh!!!

For what it's worth, I wasn't expecting 70 supports. I wasn't even expecting 70 total votes.
