There is a set of ideal things to do. Not everyone does all of them, which is a shame, because we should. It is not properly stated anywhere that I have found.:

  • Identify the source of the copyvio.
  • Decline citing the copyvio as the reason. Consider whether CSD is required. If so this is the end of the process
  • Physically remove the copyvio by either:
  • rewriting it (we can do this)
  • redacting it. I often make it very obvious with a statement in each location that I have done so, eg *** Copyright violation removed ***
  • Ask for a cv-revdel. There is a gizmo I have in my More tab from User:Enterprisey/cv-revdel that makes it easy. Try hard to identify the start as well as the end of the copyvio. Those performing the revdel will appreciate it.
  • in your Decline you will see "cv". Once you are sure it has been cleaned, alter this to "cv-cleaned"

This provides a squeaky clean review, and means we have discharged our AFC duties well.
