Details needed: History and how it differes[edit]

More details are needed in this article, specifically history and current practive (when was it developed? By whom? Who uses it and when?) and details about how it is unique from other mass in the Roman Catholic Church (How is the mass different from the Ordinary Form? How is it different from the African Rite?). --Bruce Hall (talk) 07:24, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Clarify[edit]

Under pressure from Zairean President Mobutu Sese Seko to remove Western and Christian names as part of a broader cultural reforms, a 1975 synod of the Congolese Episcopal Conference chose to remove feasts for the saints from the week to the nearest Sunday. <-- I have no idea what the latter part of this sentence means. What is "the week to the nearest Sunday"? And how many feasts were removed? Elizium23 (talk) 18:24, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The sources for this paragraph need a thorough overhaul, but it’s pretty easy to search the Proceedings of the Third African Eucharistic Congress to find this:
In reference to the Liturgical Calendar, one must take into account the fact that the local government in 1975, as he had banned the use of Christian names given to people and also to institutions and public buildings (hospitals, schools ...), forbade the celebration of Christian feasts during the week (except for Christmas): consequently, the Episcopal Conference of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, after the approval of the Holy See, has moved all the movable feasts of the universal calendar to the nearest Sunday.
That would appear to be the source, somewhat butchered, of what you’d like clarified. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 18:51, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, that's weird but OK it clears it up. Also, regarding this edit, "chose to remove" is perfectly good grammar, but it doesn't really matter. Elizium23 (talk) 18:59, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I did not suggest that “chose to remove” is bad grammar. It’s bad writing. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 19:03, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Bmclaughlin9, no, it's not bad writing, it's pretty good actually. And sorry, I initially intended to write "perfectly good usage". Elizium23 (talk) 19:05, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
