earlier comment[edit]

the white peci (which is worn by haji) is not Indonesian cap. it is from arab, and they have different designs, usages, and compositions. compare these pics:

  • This article should not be limited only to Malaysian article stub, it is a South East Asian attire by heritage, and should not be limited only to Malaysia. Beware. Ennio morricone (talk) 04:44, 31 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The article has Malaysian slant, but I think it is clearly described that songkok/peci is South East Asian. The Malaysian stub mark can be removed when the article is expanded enough. Gombang (talk) 06:14, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

History[edit]

This article needs better historical sources. The fez was only adopted by the Ottomans in the 1820's, so the newspaper article claiming it is the origin of the songkok and also that the songkok has been around since the 13th century is contradictory. --Macrakis (talk) 18:02, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The newspaper article is incorrect and I wouldn't even consider it a reliable source. The songkok is obviously not that old and wasn't even common until the 20th century. Morinae (talk) 12:11, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
