this article says nothing about his death. Buckner was one of the 12,513 killed on Okinawa.

From my readings there seems to be some controversy over Buckner's service in Okinawa. It appears that many of his subordinates during the Battle of Okinawa felt Buckner was not fit to command, and that excessive causalities on both sides resulted. Surprisingly, in his memoirs, General Douglas MacArthur also stated the same about other battles as U.S. forces moved toward Okinawa and Japan. Has anyone analyzed the end of the Pacific War from this perspective?

Note: there was also a eugenics program in Japan that targeted individuals with inferior genetics. This may be important if we take a closer look at the fact that the genocide that took place in Okinawa cleared out the poorest of the Okinawans. Highest Ranked Officer in WWII?![edit]

In the article, it states "among the highest-ranking military officers to die"...Allied or Axis or both? Because I know for sure Isoroku Yamamoto was a Marshal. If it's allied only, then there are more Gen.'s names should be added. (eg: Gen. Zhang Zizhong was KIA by the Japanese in 1940) TheAsianGURU (talk) 21:55, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion: remove dot at the end of URL[edit]

Hello:

The current URL [1] has a dot at the end, and some link-shortening sites like Tiny URL do not take the dot into account when shortening the URL, resulting in a dead link.
