16 October 2008 conversation in Swahili[edit]

This was mentioned at https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2011/apr/07/donald-trump/donald-trump-says-president-obamas-grandmother-cau/

Listen to the full conversation yourself. The parts in question begin about the 4:20 mark.

The words "full conversation" in the line above were a link to http://s16v.com/americasright/8167169.wma which is dead now but the 14 minute audio file is still present on archive.org at https://web.archive.org/web/20110715220811/http://s16v.com/americasright/8167169.wma

Politifact's transcription of the English portion lines up with what I'm listening to, but only the English dialogue is transcribed.

There isn't any attempt there to transcribe:

  • the Swahili the translator speaks to Sarah
  • the Swahili Sarah replies to translator

I would like to know if there are any sources which attempted to at least phonetically replicate what is heard (it would be difficult, the audio is quieter and garbled (as one would expect since both mouths are probably away from the phone connected Bishop Ron McRae) and then spell it according to Swahili standards and interpret the translations of them. 64.228.90.251 (talk) 07:41, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Secret Service?[edit]

Does Sarah Obama have secret service protection? It seems likely that she would, at least when he was President. Would they leave Obama's step grandmother unprotected? It would make an interesting story to profile the American secret service agents who have been assigned to guard this elderly woman in a small village in Kenya. Yet I've never been able to find out anything about that. Does anyone have a reliable source about this? Lafong (talk) 20:49, 7 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • I don't think it's the case that extended family members automatically get Secret Service protection, and I wouldn't presume that this specific subject does. BD2412 T 22:51, 7 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
