infobox.. "musical artist" vs. "person"?[edit]

im trying to understand the difference between "Infobox musical artist" and "Infobox person"

i noticed the articles for Meek Mill, Eminem, Dr. Dre, and Timbaland, all use "person", but for some reason i dont presently understand, the article for Vory uses "musical artist"...

they are all rappers, while dr. dre and timbaland are also producers. i figured either they all would qualify as musical artists, or maybe if the rappers dont, then the people who are also producers might. however, the only one that seems to qualify as a musical artist is vory.

again, if there is a reason for why this discrepancy exists, that reason is unclear (to me). i feel like qualifications for a "musical artist" probably include playing a musical instrument, meaning the vory article should have used the "person" infobox as well. even though "vocals" is listed as the value for his "instrument" parameter, i still think some oversight might have occurred..

otherwise, shouldnt the other articles also be musical artists, with vocals being listed as their instruments? with the articles for dr. dre and timbaland possibly also having their production gear listed.

its rather confusing and i am struggling to find a consistent standard. if somebody could shed some light on this, i would appreciate it.

also, i noticed none of the articles i listed have the "associated acts" parameter. what type of an individual (or infobox) is required for that?

thanks in advance. Snarevox (talk) 19:15, 4 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Snarevox, there is no consistent standard and so you should stop struggling to find one. There are no "qualifications" for musical artist other than performing some kind of music. Rappers (and vocalists more broadly) are musical artists but that does not mean that infobox is mandatory. The decision about which template to use is made by the individual editor at the time the infobox is added. Infobox templates are very flexible so either one works just fine. It is only a template, which is just a tool after all for presenting content in an organized way. That being said, most but not all articles about vocalists use "Infobox person" and most but not all articles about instrumentalists use "Infobox musical artist" but this is not a hard and fast rule. 99.9% of readers do not care. Meek Mill alleged gay relationship with Puff Diddy[edit]

Audio was leaked of Meek Mill and Sean Combs engaging in sexual intercourse. Meek Mill shouting to the top of his lungs. Many believe Mill was submitting to Combs in return for Hollywood power and higher status. Abril1157 (talk) 04:45, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
