Travels of President Barack ObamaList of presidential trips made by Barack Obama — For clarity, and in accordance with WP:SAL. I also think the new name is less clunky than the current title. YeshuaDavidTalk • 19:23, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. Absolutely, I don't see why you needed to request this, you could have been bold and just made the move... unless I'm missing something? Anyhow, yes, the current title is clunky and, also, in 8 years time he won't be "President Barack Obama" anymore. — \`CRAZY`(lN)`SANE`/ (talkcontribs) 00:04, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support I agree with CrazyInSane and YeshuaDavid. No clear reason not to, and it's a clearer title. Gosox5555 (talk) 01:58, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. The word "made" is redundant. Also, what makes a trip a "presidential" trip? Does he also make unpresidential trips, i.e. unoffical visits? List of trips by President Barack Obama 199.125.109.133 (talk) 05:55, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment The word "made" is not redundant, don't be so picky. And use your brain, a "presidential" trip is one he made while holding the office of President of the US. You honestly think we should make an article of every single trip he's made during his whole life? Don't be ridiculous. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.118.108.219 (talk) 05:21, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notable enough for its own article?[edit]

Are Obama's trips really notable enough for their own article? I mean, there is already List of international trips made by the President of the United States for trips by the president and none of the other presidents have articles for their trips. It seems a bit biased. I would propose a merge but the process seems a little bit complicated. SkepticBanner (talk) 22:06, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think it's just a lot easier to create an article like this for a new president. When the Bush presidency started in 2001, for example, Wikipedia didn't even exist, and I would like to see continuations of this list for future US Presidents, be they Democratic or Republican. Not sure about merging with List of international trips made by the President of the United States, since that article has quite a different mandate to this one, namely in that it doesn't cover domestic trips. 84.92.117.93 (talk) 15:51, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think there's room for both articles, for if this content were merged into the main article, and the main article were actually fully filled in for each president, it would be way too unwieldy. If anyone has the drive perhaps they could start similar articles for recent presidents, or at least improve the main article. Joshdboz (talk) 16:53, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Afghanistan March 28[edit]

President Obama visited US Troops at Bagram Air Base, should be added to main article list. LeahBethM (talk) 20:01, 2 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Map[edit]

Is there any way we could use different colors for the map, rather than just different shades of blue? It's kind of difficult to discriminate between the shades. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.118.108.219 (talk) 05:24, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you merge the Prague speech into this article? Shame.--188.4.142.89 (talk) 19:31, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The map needs to be updated with the recent trips to southern Africa.Alandeus (talk) 07:37, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

United Nations as distinct territory[edit]

Just to avoid an edit war, I am posting my rationale for why I classify the United Nations Headquarters as being a distinct "country" rather than part of New York City/State. While technically the United Nations Headquarters is governed and within the jurisdiction of the laws of NYC/USA, it is considered INTERNATIONAL TERRITORY (see United Nations Headquarters, third paragraph). While it is true that the UN is not a sovereign nation like others in the "Country" category, it cannot fairly be considered just another part of New York. Furthermore, many journalists (including The Associated Press and CNN) file reports from "United Nations", not "New York City" when at the UN HQ, which would be unnecessary if they considered it just another part of New York state. For this reason, I am putting the United Nations as a distinct country, for the reasons stated above. Gaijin Ninja (talk) 19:11, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you for explaining your reasons. However, this is a common misconception: while the United Nations Headquarters does have extraterritoriality status, it remains unders under the sovereignity and jurisdiction of the United States. To quote from the third paragraph: "Except as otherwise provided in this agreement or in the General Convention, the federal, state and local courts of the United States shall have jurisdiction over acts done and transactions taking place in the headquarters district as provided in applicable federal, state and local laws.” Thus, "the district remains under the law and judicial jurisdiction of the United States." [bold added]" As such, I am undoing your change. 84.92.117.93 (talk) 15:25, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Undue Weight Problems?[edit]

Saw the banner for "Undue Weight Problems", and I must say I disagree. This article is quite neutral - I don't believe it pushes any political ideologies or promotes fringe theories. Statements are properly referenced, and I honestly can't see how this article can be controversial. Can you lease explain why this article is considered unduly weighted, and what is is unduly weighted towards? Thank you. Gaijin Ninja (talk) 20:33, 6 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Likwise, I do not see any undue weight problems with this article; it all seems perfectly neutral. The Celestial City (talk) 01:17, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Splitting article[edit]

As this article was getting extremely long, and would only increase with presumably at least two more years in office for Obama, possibly six if he wins anothers term, I decided to split the content into two subsidiary articles for 2009 and 2010. I've left foreign trips on this page, as they are generally considered more important. I hope this is satisfactory with everyone. The Celestial City (talk) 20:40, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ample sources[edit]

Hello! I've been editing on Wikipedia for a while, but this article has surprised me with the number of citations preceding some statements. Just out of curiosity, what is the logic for this? To link the readers to as much information as possible? Are the events heavily disputed? Or do they all contain unique information? Thanks! Dmarquard (talk) 03:26, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I hope you refer to the coverage of President Obama's visit to Colombia in April 2012. In contrast to previous coverages of President Obama's foreign trips which were done after the conclusion of his trips this trip coverage occured over the course of the Colombian trip. Hence more sources came togehter. I didn't place these sources behind the last sentence as I did previously. Instead I placed the sources behind the statements to back up the specific statements and to link the readers to as much information as possible. Missed trip[edit]

Dan Robinson

June 19, 2013 WHITE HOUSE — U.S. President Barack Obama returns to Africa next week, only the second visit of his presidency to the continent. In Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania, he will stress support for democracies and economic progress, and speak about the importance of human rights. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.38.80.42 (talk) 18:07, 19 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

2013 trip to Berlin: not a state visit[edit]

I don't know how the exact title was, maybe something like "work visit"? Definitely not an official state visit, though.--FoxyOrange (talk) 12:16, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article re-name suggestion[edit]

As the article lists only the international presidential trips made by Barack Obama since 2009, and since individual articles exist listing each year's presidential trips, both foreign & domestic, I suggest that this article be renamed List of International presidential trips made by Barack Obama. Drdpw (talk) 21:43, 15 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If we rename the article, then we should also remove the section Domestic trips. Wykx (talk) 21:46, 15 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Wykx: - Yes, that would need to be done. What's your opinion on changing the title? Drdpw (talk) 01:42, 16 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I could tend to agree but I would like to know where we would then find the information that Barack Obama has visited all 50 US states. Wykx (talk) 06:49, 16 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That information is already in the Obama presidential trips articles for '09, '10, '11, and etc. Links to those pages are already in this article.
(At second glance, this whole article may itself be redundant, but that's a separate issue.) Drdpw (talk) 15:48, 16 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@PatTag2659: Pat, as a contributing editor to this article, I'd appreciate your input before I change the title. Cheers. Drdpw (talk) 16:51, 19 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Drdpw. I do think that it would be clearer if the article was renamed as "List of international presidential trips made by Barack Obama" since the article does not include information on his domestic trips, so I would agree to the change. Remove of relationships links?[edit]

Hi @Drdpw Why did you remove all "See also|XXX–United States relations" links ? They are quite accurate in an article about presidential trips and are different state by state. Wykx (talk) 20:05, 18 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Wykx They are all in the United States Foreign relations of the United States navbox I added toward the bottom of the page. Drdpw (talk) 00:02, 19 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of relevant material[edit]

@Drdpw, The following removed from edit is certainly salient for this entry. Any objections to my reinserting?

The agenda of Obama's last NATO summit focused on strengthening defense cooperation to protect Eastern Europe from Russian aggression on Ukraine, confronting the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, the European migrant crisis, and the United Kingdom withdrawal from the European Union.NATO Vows To Bolster Defenses Bordering Russia Brexit and Russia Make President Obama's Last NATO Summit His Toughest Ever He also announced that around 1,000 extra troops will be deployed to Poland to bolster NATO's eastern flank.US says it will deploy 1,000 extra troops to Poland Your reduction retained cites 1 and 2, so there would be some compaction re cites.
