I request that the nationality of people be placed with their birthdates, etc.

Moved from article:

Although apparently correct (at least, she seems to be a U.S. junior ski racer, see [1], although I didn't find a confirmation for her birthdate), I doubt that this is truly noteworthy. Let's add her again when she's won a FIS race, ok? (Entry was added on March 4, 2003 in this edit by IP 12.224.88.192.) Lupo 08:29, 18 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Canadian Election, 2006[edit]

It says it was the first Canadian Election held in winter. This is not true. There was another one, which I can't recall, but amd going to look up and change. Kaiser matias 05:44, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unclear[edit]

Again, in the canadian elections. It currently says "2006 - After 12 years of Liberal Party's rule, Stephen Harper's (pictured) Conservative Party wins the most seats in the Canadian federal election. Harper becomes the 22nd Prime Minister of Canada with a minority government.". This is unclear. Is this guy the 22nd every prime minister in Canada, or the 22nd prime minister of Canada with a minority government? Codu (t)(c) •  15:09, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

David Anber[edit]

My edit was removed and noted as vandalism. I'd like to note that first, it was a good faith edit, and second I think it is correct (which is why it is good faith). It seems in line with the consensus at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Days_of_the_Year#Criteria_for_listing_in_Births_and_Deaths. The person in question, David Anber served one term on the national executive of a now-defunct Canadian political party. --JGGardiner 22:54, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion[edit]

Suggesting the change of the first entry to: 1556 - The deadliest earthquake in history killed 830,000 people in Shaanxi Province, China. --Tengku syariful 17:52, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

agreed, I was about to suggest that the entry include a link to 1556_Shaanxi_earthquake myself. Modest Genius talk 18:52, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Changing all instances of American to US[edit]

The standard term for all references to American people in Wikicalendar articles is to use the word American. I'm not an English expert but it seems that the word American is an adjective and describes the person's nationality. The abbreviation US is short for United States and is a noun and does not describe the object. I can say "George Bush is American" I cannot say "George Bush is United States". One wouldn't say "Tony Blair is England" but one could say "Tony Blair is English". Also if such a change is indeed warranted, it needs to be changed on all of the date articles not just one. I don't know how using American is considered un-PC. I also don't know of an article that discusses this. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 04:30, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hulk Hogan[edit]

Moved from here

I am curious to why you removed my entry under Events about Hulk Hogan winning his first WWF title? It qualifies as an important event of January 23, 1984, just as much as the event about O.J. Simpson in 1985 or any number of other events noted on the January 23 page. Daniellofquist (talk) 12:22, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hulk Hogan winning his first title is not a long-term globally notable event. It is only important to wrestling fans and has no impact on the lives of non-fans. Also, being picked by a producer to be the champion isn't much of an accomplishment. Please do not bring other events into the discussion because each entry needs to be evaluated on its own merits. The newest entries always get attention first. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 16:29, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree since this was the event that enabled Hulk Hogans transformation into an international superstar which in turn was what made it possible for him to transcend wrestling and enter into other areas such as movies and TV. That this event only has an impact on wrestling fans is in my opinion hardly a valid argument for removal since the same could be argued about every event having to do with anything that has "fans", i.e. any sport, music, movies, etc. yet I don't see you removing everything having to do with football players or rock musicians for example. Daniellofquist (talk) 23:18, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hulk Hogan is nothing more than a fictional character. Saying that this event is notable is like saying that the day that Rocky Balboa defeated Apollo Creed in Rocky II was a notable event. The first time that Muhammad Ali won the boxing championship isn't notable, how could this be? As far as I know, there are no entries about rock musicians or football players (except in the rare cases when they have broken world records). And if you look more closely, you will see that I have removed hundreds of non-notable entries, but new entries are constantly being added and there are only so many hours in the day. Please have a look at WP:DAYS and WP:NGS for information on what can be included in the date articles. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 00:19, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Births and deaths[edit]

I've removed entries for a number of people who have few or no articles in other language wikipedias and thus not internationally well known. This makes the section more manageable. See Days of Year Project talk pages. Those that have been removed have been transferred to the relevant Year in Topic articles, where possible.Deb (talk) 11:03, 2 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Selected anniversaries - improvement suggestion[edit]

For Milton Keynes (founded 23 January 1967), may I suggest that it would be more interesting to a global readership to append this: The area to be developed was largely farmland, with evidence of continuous settlement dating back to the Bronze Age. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 10:47, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Novi Sad raid[edit]

1556 Shaanxi earthquake - Move to Feb 2nd?[edit]

the 1556 Shaanxi earthquake took place on January 23rd Julian, not Jan 23rd Gregorian, shouldn't this be moved to the 2nd of Feb, as that's the date it occurred on in Gregorian dating? BeefsteakMaters (talk) 18:57, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No. The Gregorian calendar didn't come into existence until 1582. Every other event is dated according to the calendar used at the time. --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 19:06, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, but it's not like the Julian Calendar was being used in China Circa 1556.
So to go on In 1368, is the Hongwu Emperor's coronation being dated to Julian as well?? because it looks to have been corrected to the Gregorian dating. So should this get moved to January 15th to reflect that it happened on Jan 15 1368 Julian?? I'm just a little confused on the lack of consistency, especially since the lead in of the January 23 article specifically references the Gregorian calendar.
https://www.worldhistory.org/Hongwu_Emperor/ BeefsteakMaters (talk) 19:33, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I can only say what the convention used in historical writing is. Using the Proleptic Gregorian calendar can lead to misunderstandings. Oh and btw, the year started on 25 March. Maybe ask at WP:WikiProject History? --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 22:55, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yep calendars can be weird. I'd just expect that we'd all agree to normalize dates on an accepted normalized date. It's one of those things that I can get pedantic about. BeefsteakMaters (talk) 00:44, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We aren't the first to have hit this problem. Apparently the reason that historians decided on this convention (to use the dating system in operation at the time) is so that dates in contemporaneous sources make sense. (Though they do cheat and just treat the year as starting on 1 Jan.) So yes, the Hongwu coronation should use Julian too. But to avoid misunderstanding, it would be best to state the calendar explicitly as in 23 March 1556 (Julian). Of course if you have a Chinese calendar date, that should be given first. --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 11:27, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
